I've eaten here several times because I work in the area, and honestly, I've always felt the food was overrated. The portions are large, but the food itself is pretty bland, under-seasoned, and just doesn't have much flavor. What really bothered me, though, was how I was treated during my most recent visit. I stopped in to use the restroom and asked an employee for the code. The restaurant was practically empty. She immediately asked if I had ordered anything and pointed out that the restroom was for customers only. I explained that I have eaten here multiple times before and have been a paying customer. Instead of simply helping me, she told me I would have to purchase something that day in order to use the restroom. I understand that businesses can have restroom policies. What I did not appreciate was the rude and dismissive way the situation was handled, especially in front of another person at the register. It was embarrassing and completely unnecessary. As someone who works nearby and has spent money here several times, this experience left a very bad impression on me. I also work with people who sometimes eat in this area, and unfortunately I can no longer feel comfortable recommending this place. Please do yourself a favor and call your order in prior to arriving. They do make everything fresh to order and you can save yourself a lot of time by calling ahead. Parking is easy since it shares a lot with the Chase Bank in pavilions. There is additional parking on the backside of the restaurant, but you must circle through the main lot to get to it. The staff is always friendly every time I've arrived, especially today. Was greeted with a smile and kind demeanor. The courtyard tends to be the hotspot for dining in though the air-conditioning inside is very nice. There is some subtle background noise with the TV on in the dining area. I've been coming here for years and finally decided to leave the review. This place is great and one of my favorites in all of Malibu. The steak they use in all their dishes is amazing. Great quality beef that just peels apart with great flavor. Their house made salsa is very unique and the only one I've had in all of Los Angeles like this. The heat scale varies sometimes and can be a little more spicy than other times. Their breakfast burrito with steak is my go to. Went into get something to snack on and ended up with more food than we could ever eat. We got a medium breakfast burrito. It was bigger than any single burrito elsewhere. There was so much meat in it that it was by far delicious. My only qualm was the smell inside. I was very turned off by it. I visited Lily's after seeing them in a list of the city's best breakfast burritos. They are in a shopping center just off of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu. They have ample seating inside, but most people grab a table outside on the shaded patio. There's good people watching out there as you're in Malibu. The inside seemed a bit sterile. There were a number of framed articles about the restaurant on the walls. There's a bathroom with a coded door. Inside it was large and clean. I ordered the breakfast burrito with bacon. It was decent, but not sure how someone decided that it was one of the best in the area. I have a feeling that some of that decision was based on the green salsa. It was very flavorful, but personally it was too spicy for me. The bacon was nice and crispy. If I ever go back, I'll ask if they have a more mild salsa. read more

YUM!! Great service, great food!! This authentic Mexican breakfast was just what we needed to start our day. The portions were so large that we were able to eat it for breakfast the next day. We really enjoyed stopping in and were happy with what we ate out on the patio. The inside of the restaurant was clean and welcoming. There were a lot of patio tables outside so we opted to sit in the sun. Staff was helpful and everything was made fresh. I really enjoyed lilys and would go again. I went to Lily's and I'm rating it a 3 only for the food! I went in with my family and was waiting to order, while my family was waiting I asked for the bathroom code and the lady at the front with all the tattoos, black hair, about 5 foot (the other man I asked said her name was Janie?) refused to give it to me until I ordered because the code is "printed" on the receipt. It was not printed on the receipt, she wrote it down. After a little time had gone by, a group of people came in and asked for the bathroom code, before ordering. I got a lunch burrito and I went with the Carnitas and it was worth the weight. the seating is really nice inside, but there are so many things to try here. They have burgers at breakfast burritos, but if you do order anything here? Make sure you get the hot sauce. I still can't fill my face, but I could sure taste my burrito. Lily's has long been on my list of places to try and so glad I did! I'm always on a hunt for great breakfast burritos. I heard online that it's best to order ahead. Website was very easy to place our order. We got there early and there was plenty of parking on a Saturday morning. There is seating indoors and outdoors in the plaza. I ordered the medium bacon burrito. In my opinion it was quite large and I was full for most of the day! The price point was reasonable ($16) and what I liked is that it was full of protein... eggs, beans and bacon and cheese. Simple yet so good. Came to Lily's for a birthday lunch celebration with and about 7-8 other friends who slowly trickled in. There was only 1 or 2 other people sitting inside eating at the time. My biggest issue with the service is that there is a very chaotic system in place for giving out orders. Instead of doing numbers like most fast food restaurants, they take down your name and call it out when your order is ready. Additionally, the food does not come out chronologically with when the order was placed, which leads to confusion. When we asked about our friend who ordered first but hadn't gotten her food despite everyone who ordered after her getting theirs, the employee was very defensive and short with her. My order was under the name Sam, so when they called Sam, we stood up to get our food. The woman originally had the burritos packed in to-go boxes and when she realized we were with the group sitting inside she quickly unpacked it and gave it to us on plates, but didn't specify which burrito was which. When we started eating we realized the order seemed incorrect. It wasn't until 15 minutes later that an employee came over and scolded us for getting the wrong burrito. Of course we did not purposely get the wrong order- they called our name then failed to specify what the actual burrito was when they handed it to us. We asked if we could have our actual order to-go since that was the food we wanted. She then took the 2 burritos that we originally ordered to the back with her and gave us only ONE to-go. She acted like she had gone out of her way to be kind and give us a free burrito. It seems she felt that it was our fault that there was a mix up and therefore we didn't deserve the burritos we actually ordered. In my experience with customer service (I worked in the industry for 7 years), that is NOT how you treat a paying customer after a mistake is made. All of this is to say that I won't be returning to Lily's due to the service. Besides that, the food was good and the serving size was huge. read more

Pre ordered lunch the day prior for a wedding event, advised the staff of the timing of pickup. Upon arrival, they delayed more than 30 minutes and did not seem worried or time pressured, as this location is relatively popular and in a prime area of Malibu, always with people willing to wait. I found this place after a hike. A pretty grueling hike so I need a hearty meal. Lilys came in clutch. Their burritos are HUGE!! I had a chorizo burrito for like three days from my one visit. I came in on a Monday, a holiday, and the place was empty-ish. We didn't wait long for our food at all. I appreciated hearing a regular or two come in. They had great rapport with the staff, and somehow that made the food even better. It's a pretty big space with a lot of seating inside and I believe some outside. I'm in the area often for hikes and there is nothing more perfect than devouring a burrito after a 10+ mile hike so of course we had to give Lily's a try. Asked for a large sausage breakfast burrito with chips and salsa. Somehow paid over $60 and got: a sloppy wet tortilla with runny eggs, bean water, what appeared to be chopped up hot dogs(?!) and some of the worst salsa I have ever seen: basically got pico de Gallo flavored water, no chunks of veggies whatsoever. Needless to say, I ended up properly re-hydrated with all the watery slop in this horrific burrito. Only pro: lots of outside seating. read more
