The main bar area was connected to a billiards room with some additional seating. I loved the ambiance, the decor was sophisticated and interesting and the space felt intimate and calm. My partner and I enjoyed our drinks and played billiards, alternating rounds with a group of guys that were hanging out there too. They were friendly and the atmosphere was nice. My partner ordered the Ambassador and I ordered the Milk Punch per the bartenders recommendation. Looking at the menu I didn't know what I should get so I asked the bartender for recommendations and he was very knowledgeable and let me try a sample of the tequila used in the Milk Punch. I was a big fan of it, it had a tart yogurty flavor kinda similar to Milkis or other Asian yogurty flavored drinks. I had a sip of the Ambassador and it was also pretty good, I enjoyed snacking on the dried pear afterwards.

Fortunately, it was an early Sunday evening and the patrons had not slammed the place. I ordered a nice draught pint and the chicken wings, extra crispy, which they were. However, they could accompany them with a few carrot and celery sticks for the great blue cheese dip. The bed of shredded lettuce had to do. The kitchen was again in good form, when I ordered the grilled Reuben with fries. Food here is not skimpy and I had half the Reuben and fries to go. There are better Reubens in this City, but your attention here is on the televised sports, conversation with your date or friends, people watching, or the Irish pub scene generally. The value proposition is well and good here. I ordered the pork chops and lamb chops to go with mashed potatoes, broccoli and salad. Both are delicious, even better than the lauded Reuben actually. Add in another beer and the bill topped out just under a Benjamin before taxes and tip, again we are in Midtown or Chelsea. Two things: Their website does not work if you want delivery and they only answered the phone once for delivery; though, I have tried several times. Some may not like the narrow men's restroom, but this is a pub in a city with plenty of small facilities and this is not a fancy establishment. Come and enjoy yourself.

FRIED CHICKEN & JOHNNY CAKES - 18 I wanted a mix of sweet and savory, so this option seemed like a good one. Each order came with two strips of fried chicken tenders placed on top of two large cornmeal pancakes, each bigger than my face. The fried chicken was heavily-breaded (perhaps a bit too much), with white chicken meat underneath that varied between juicy and dry The pancakes themselves were pretty forgettable, and I wasn't a big fan of the lemon ricotta or chili-spiced syrup on the side. Most of our group found their entrees pretty underwhelming. Additionally, service was really slow, and the kitchen forgot an order. Personally, I wouldn't return, especially with so many other great options within two minutes walk away. Edit: Owner pointed out that their chicken is not breaded. What I meant is that the chicken is heavily-battered. Sorry!

The unmarked entrance and doorbell immediately set the tone, and once inside it feels like you stepped out of Manhattan and into a dark, old New York cocktail lounge. The velvet seating, curtains, low lighting, and little private nooks make the whole place feel intimate without being gimmicky. That atmosphere is very much intentional. The Chelsea location is the original Raines Law Room and is built around that hidden speakeasy experience. The cocktails were beautifully presented, and I liked that this felt like a place where you could actually sit with friends and have a conversation rather than compete with loud music. We also ordered some meat, cheese, olives, and crackers for the table, which was perfect alongside the drinks without turning the night into a full dinner. What stood out most to me was how cohesive everything felt. The drinks, glassware, lighting, service style, and decor all fit the same mood. It feels refined and special without trying too hard. Pay special attention to the bathroom wall art. Definitely not an inexpensive night out, but for a true New York cocktail bar experience, I thought Raines Law Room was absolutely worth visiting. This would be especially good for a date night or drinks with a small group.

Probably the worst food I've had in manhattan to date. We got the shaved steak sandwich which was awful. The steak was somehow raw (we asked for medium well) and rubbery and overly chewy all at the same time. Also tasted like it was seasoned with a pinch of salt and nothing else. The caesar salad was abysmal. They make their own dressing which is usually a good thing but that was not the case here. The dressing tasted like anything but caesar. We told the waitress and asked for new entrees because we couldn't even take another bit of either. We chose chicken tenders and a burger because we figured you can't mess that up. Well.... The burger was also pretty terrible and the chicken tenders tasted of old oil. Now one would think if food isn't their strong suit, maybe they make up for it in their drinks. WRONG. Moscow Mule was not in a copper cup. Instead it was out of a plastic cup made to look like copper. It also tasted like flavored water. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because the waitresses gave us new food (also bad) and we're apologetic but it's not their fault. Don't come here for anything other than a beer since they can't mess that up
