Looks like a nice sports bar. Plenty of screens to watch all the games. Good amount of seating over two floors. They even have an outside deck area in the front overlooking the street. Our experience with the hostess was positive as our group of eight was looking for a place to eat and drink after the Knicks Championship parade. When we arrived were told they take walk ins but didn't have tables available as they were also busy with the FIFI World Cup. As we stood outside Googling other places close by she came out and said they could move some table groups around to seat us all, but they tables would no be next to each other. One of the few late night options that served food. It was our last night hurrah with a few coworkers before some returned home and it was a pleasant experience. We were seated on the back half of the restaurant where the music wasn't too loud and we could hear each other's conversations. I ordered the salmon with veggies and rice. The salmon was a touch sweet to me with the sauce they used. The rice and veg were cooked perfectly to compliment the salmon itself. Drinks were good, service fantastic. We really enjoyed our food. Everything was tasty. The brussels sprouts were the bomb with bacon and crispiness just perfect. The chicken wings were fried a bit expensive but they allowed us to have several kinds of sauces for dipping, which was awesome. I don't know that I would ever come here for a date. Popped in for a late night dinner. From the front door you can't tell that this place has a restaurant- it looks like a bar only. The staff were friendly and took the time to explain their specials and best selling dishes. The ambiance gives local vibes, which I loved. When you walk in the front is the bar, it's long and has some high tops along the wall and plenty of seating at the bar. Once you pass the bar, you'll enter the restaurant part. There is plenty of tables and the restaurant can accommodate large parties. Now let's get to the food! We ordered the carnitas tacos and the seared yellowtail and noodles. Both were in the daily specials menu. We also ordered the buffalo cauliflower which was served with blue cheese dressing and a cup of tomato bisque. The food was tasty and fresh. The carnitas were moist and crispy but were bland-- they needed salt, thank goodness for the salt shaker! The yellowtail was delicious . The noodles were a tad over sauced, however they complemented the fish well. The tomato bisque was the best thing. It was so yummy and creamy, and little chunks of tomato. At the local Marriott and was recommended to go here. I came back to the hotel and explained how bad of a recommendation they made. Saturday night by myself at 9 pm and an absolutely useless male bartender couldn't find his way of pouring me more than a glass of water. He didn't follow up with anything else. I was going to get a glass of wine with the sandwich I ordered. However, after the water, I never interacted with him again. Bizarre, in a word. Sausage sandwich with fries was fine. But that prick of a bartender was not. I'm in this area of NYC every few months. Will never come back because of him. I was staying at the nearby Lexington Autograph Collection Hotel, and the hotel recommended that we try Foxy John's. I'm so glad we took their recommendation because we had such an amazing experience from the second we walked in. The host greeted us right away with such a friendly tone and a genuine smile, which honestly stood out to me because you don't get that kind of warm welcome at many restaurants anymore. It immediately made us feel comfortable and welcomed. The atmosphere was also so pretty and unique. The restaurant had so much character and didn't feel like your typical restaurant at all. There were so many great appetizers to choose from, and everything we ordered was delicious. I was also really impressed with how quickly everything came out. We sat down around 5:00 and were leaving by about 5:40, and even with how fast the service was, we never once felt rushed. Our waiter was another huge part of why we had such a great experience. He was extremely nice, attentive, and clearly knew exactly what he was doing. He was able to accommodate everything we needed perfectly and made sure we were taken care of throughout the entire meal without constantly hovering over the table. Between the beautiful and unique atmosphere, the warm welcome from the host, the amazing food, quick service, and such a great waiter, Foxy John's really exceeded our expectations. It's not often that you go somewhere where both the food AND the service stand out this much. Fries - they forgot to give us fries, whoops. 2. Chicken strips (Nashville Hot) - received plain chicken strips, which were very dry and stringy. 3. Chicken and cheese quesadilla - totally unseasoned. Took one bite and tossed it. 4. Nachos - messy, soggy and unappealing. In short, out of 4 items they forgot one completely, got another wrong and the two items they got correct tasted horrible. It was very disappointing and a waste of calories. I love, cilantro so the second time I had them I asked for extra with extra lime. (Vegan friends, they serve the tacos with a small dish of grated cheddar on the side, not in the tacos). They really had a nice jalepeno bite and may be my second favorite vegetarian taco ever (my number one favorite is in Vancouver, British Columbia!)
