Working with Lily Spruce was such an amazing experience and better than I ever could have expected for month-of wedding coordination. There was great value in having a wedding coordinator, because I learned as a bride there are things you simply cannot avoid doing yourself (visiting with family, attending beauty appointments, writing vows), and so it was phenomenal to have Lily Spruce there to take care of the things me and my fiance did not have to do ourselves. Claire was our point-person and she made both of us feel very taken care of two months before, one month before, the week-of, and the entire evening. She asked the vendors questions we didn't think of during the wedding planning, and she found a way to make (anything we needed) things happen on the day-of. She also helped field phone calls and small venue malfunctions throughout the evening seamlessly. Genevieve and Monique worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make sure the entire day was a great experience for me and my fiance. I remember being brought food, coffee, and the right beverages throughout the night. THE WEDDING Our September wedding at Bloomfield Farm in Petaluma was planned with Genevieve in just under 5 months. From morning till night, I was smiling from ear to ear enjoying the company of family and friends in a gorgeous day that flowed from event to event seamlessly. As far as I knew, there were no hiccups in the plans. I later found out there were a few, but Genevieve is a master of keeping calm and problem solving independently. We had a special vision for making the day our own and Genevieve helped us make good choices and pull everything off. Everything from the personalized ceremony to the farm-to-table family style dinner, real-record-spinning DJ's, food / bar service and ambiance came together perfectly!! We could not have done it so gorgeously (with a touch of rad) and still enjoyed every smooth second of it without Genevieve and Lily Spruce! THE PROCESS + BOTTOM LINE Genevieve was actually our second planner. Our first planner had us spend a Saturday visiting a sketchy / wayyyyyy too small venue, which she later apologized for thinly researching. She also just didn't have a sense of our style at all. I don't want to start this on a negative note, but all this is to say we learned the hard way that having a diligent stylish planner with good relationships in the event planning industry is damn important. So, we shook off that wasted weekend and found Genevieve's Lily Spruce service on Yelp. Genevieve takes hospitality seriously and it comes through in all of your interactions with her. Our first meeting was at her office in the Mission where she put together some sweet little touches to make us feel welcome. A great signal for things to come. Over and over again we naively convinced ourselves that we'd do most of the planning ourselves and would just use Genevieve to help us find a venue and oversee what we set up the month-of. We started with her a la-cart hours and one of her smaller "30-days-out" planning packages. When it comes down to it, you have to coordinate event plans during work hours and my husband and I don't have the kind of jobs where you can take a 2 hr lunch break everyday to call up vendors and follow up on logistic details. 30 days out we were so behind and quietly imploding. We ended up asking for a lot more a la-cart hours in those last 30 days and we're just lucky she was available to help us and so freakin capable of making everything not just work, but work beautifully at the last minute. If we were to do it all again, we would just book her full service planning package up front. It would have saved us a few stressed conversations and cost about the same. It turns out, when you invite around 100 family and friends to travel from all over to spend a day with you, lots and lots of unforeseen little things come up. The kind of things that merit your own time and attention. Like making sure out-of-towners have a sense of what hotels / airbnb's to book, and coordinating lunches and dinners to make sure you get to spend time with people, and picking out thank-you gifts for your wedding party, and deciding that a seating chart might make some people feel more comfortable and maybe spark friendships, etc... all the things no one else can do but you add up really quickly. So, for us, outsourcing the rest of it turned out to be essential. Luckily, Genevieve has this rare ability to present an optimistic problem-solving attitude while also just telling you like-it-is up front. So, we got our dose of reality but it was far less painful that it might have been with someone else. For example, it turns out that coordinating caterers and venue logistics is quite a lot of communicating and accounting for things that only experience can help you foresee. Genevieve swooped in and made sure everything was taken care of in a way that treated all parties with fairness. Bottom line: some people just have style and an ease with people and that counts for a lot when it's the person organizing your wedding. Genevieve is that person and you can tell, she really enjoys pulling off beautiful weddings. She's always got her clipboards, organizational accoutrements and a smile for you :) Looking back, I had no idea what to expect and I don't think we would have been able to pull of this wedding without Lily Spruce.
