I was referred here and let me just say that I am glad that I was. The place looks great! It's so calming and everyone is very welcoming. I arrived early, before they were open, and went to the coffee shop next door. SN: The cream cheese danish was delicious... Back to the salon. I was told about parking over the phone when making the appointment but once I got there, I was confused lol I chalk that up to not being familiar with the area. So, if it is your first time going to the area, give yourself some extra time to locate parking. There was virtually no wait. I just had to fill out a form since it was my first time and that took all of 2-3 minutes. Tameka was the stylist that did my hair and she was great! This was my first time getting my hair cut shorter than a bob and she was very reassuring that she would make it look good. I was ready to cut it but worried about the change! She did the style exactly as I requested it! When she first showed me my cut in the mirror, I was shocked! I'm not used to seeing myself with short hair so I was freaking out in my head lol The more I look in the mirror, the more I like it! I was very disappointed, because I heard good reviews. I asked for Naja first, they said she's booked up not taking new clients. They appointed me to Towetti. She cut my hair with clippers and it was uneven. The color was off. She couldn't even curl my hair, stating this never happened to her before. She had other clients whilst doing my hair like she double booked me. Someone else had to wash out my hair. The color still wasn't right, so she went in again saying she knows her colors! Still came out bad. When I asked her to just mold it down, she caught an attitude saying what if Naja the owner sees it. What about me! Then she rushes me saying she has another client coming in. After she came in late for me. I asked about getting another stylist. They wanted me to pay another $50 for another one. When this one didn't know what to do with my hair. I had been a client of this salon previously when I wore a perm. After spending more than six months growing out my natural hair while wearing braids, I decided to return for a simple cut to maintain my natural hair. When I called to schedule an appointment, I was told that I would first need a consultation and that it could take months before I could even schedule a service. As a returning client, this was disappointing to hear, especially when I was simply trying to maintain my natural hair. I understand that salons have policies, but the process felt unnecessarily difficult and unwelcoming. A clearer explanation or more flexibility for returning clients would have made the experience much better. Unfortunately, this interaction left me feeling like my business was no longer valued. and immediately offered me a refund, which is cool thank you but you're being mean and aggressive towards me and you ruined my hair! I accepted the refund and provided my Cash App, she refunded me $222, on January 10th and kept the $60 tip I gave, cool no problem! She even mentioned, maybe I should have gone to Curltopia since I don't like the cut and they specialize in curly hair! Well darn it, maybe I should have! What's wrong with telling someone, I'm not comfortable with this or I unfortunately can't fulfill your hair desires as that is not in my scope of hair care? The lack of accountability, the fact that she was aggressive and mad at me because she botched my hair infuriated me! It took me time to write this review as I have been caring for my sick mother and I really was hoping my curls would revert back and unfortunately they have not! I literally look crazy!!! My hair is silky, with beautiful natural curls in the back (not the entire back of my head, you can see where the curls are lose and pretty and then tight and balled up, the curls aren't even, how does one acquire lopsided curls?...you can definitely tell something was added to my hair to strip my curl pattern, it literally looks crazy!) it looks like I had a perm on 85%-90% of my hair, it just doesn't flow! My hair is the consistency of a cotton ball, very fluffy with no definition, it doesn't even feel the same, very dense and rough like. When I wet my hair it looks like I applied water to a cotton ball! I thankfully have a great barber who was able to cut my hair evenly for me and I'm now working on growing it out and reverting my curl pattern (I pray I can get my texture back!) so I can feel confident with my hair again. Crystal even had the audacity to inform me about haters and how you can't allow everyone to do your hair lol but she ruined my hair! Initially I took it as, ok accidents happen, it's just a lil heat damage...she didn't mean it but upon me speaking with her about my concerns, her cutting me off constantly, being mean and overly aggressive and immediately willing to issue a refund made me feel like, the damage was intentionally done! Who blows someone out with a hand dryer and then proceeds to sit them under a dryer for an hour, when I made it very clear, I don't do heat. I don't do relaxers. My hair definitely could have been cut without the blow out! Her explanation for the blowout was to ensure I had an even cut lol, that was the most lopsided uneven cut ever and when I mentioned how uneven the cut was, she really became angry stating, "the goal was to cut the dead hair, it wasn't supposed to be even" huh!? Ma'am I asked for several different styles and you shot all of them down and I had more than enough hair for 3 of the styles I suggested! But after the botched cut of course I had to go with a lower, tapered cut. I just wanted a cute cut to fit my face and attempts to grow my hair in its natural state! Instead I looked liked somebody's balding uncle, with my hair lopsided and sticking up straight on the top of my head. I walked in there with my waves swimming and my curls popping, now I look like an MC with a microphone puff on the top of my head. I have to use curl creams which is cool but it's not cool because my hair literally will not curl! I'm very disappointed and I hope in the future, if you can't do something or don't feel confident, just say that! It's not about the money, cause we as women (I know for myself for sure) I have no problem spending money on my hair! So here's the thing. I went to Najha three times. My hair never looked good, it never looked anywhere near what it look like in her videos and the whole experience was just incredibly disappointing. I decided to wait to leave a review to see if maybe we just started on the wrong foot but after 3 visits im done. So here's what happened. I waited almost a year to get an appointment with her because she wasn't accepting new clients when she called me and told me I could come in, I was thrilled. Appointment #1 I arrived 15 minutes early and then sat there for 45 additional minutes before she started my hair. No apology know nothing. I just sat there silently for 45 minutes waiting. One of the things I don't like is when a stylist puts me under the dryer for too long and dries my hair out. My hair was dry 20 minutes before the dryer turned off and then I sat there for another 30 minutes waiting for her. By the time I left I'd been there for three hours and 15 minutes. I missed my second appointment and my hair looked horrible. She informed me that my hair was thin and fine. My hair is not thin and it's not fine. Here's a picture of what my hair looks like at my previous stylist and how my hair looked with Najah. She put tons of hairspray in it which cause it to be dry. I told her I did not want sheen because it makes my hair flat. She put it in my hair anyway. I literally don't need anything on my hair but she insisted I did, and this is what I got. I told her I did not want the top of my haircut because I was trying to let it grow out and she cut it quite short. I told her not to cut the gray streak in the front, she cut it . I don't even know what the $50 consult was for. Appointment #2. This time I told her don't put ANYTHING at all of my hair no matter what and don't flip it up. Instead style down so that way she could just see that my hair did not need product. I thought that was the easiest thing in the world and if she knew what she was doing then my hair would look beautiful. It looked better but nothing at all like those videos. Honestly, it looks like a grandma. I've been to my previous stylist at least 50 times and it looked beautiful and bouncy every time. Not with Najha Appointment # 3. First she called me the day before my third appointment and rescheduled it for the following week because of some clerical error. Then she called me the day before the rescheduled appointment and asked me to come in an hour later. I tried to be totally flexible so I told her I had an appointment in Acworth at 1 o'clock so I had to be out of her salon no later than 12:15 so as long as she committed to do that then I could come at 10:15 per her request. I arrived at 10:14 for my 1015 appointment and she strolled in at 10:45 with no apologies. I was immediately stressed. She didn't even try to comfort me and say "don't worry I'm gonna get you out on time. At noon I was still sitting in the chair waiting to be curled. I went to her and I said I really have to get out of here and she was like "I know I'm almost there" or something. Bottom line is I miss my appointment. She did apologize but immediately blamed it on her doctor. THEN She was like that'll be $135. She didn't even ask me if she cost me any money but we have an a missed that appointment. She didn't appear to care. The bottom line is this she doesn't really seem to be passionate about what she does. This is clearly just a job. That happy, smiling person in the videos creating beautiful hair.....I never met that person. The customers are not first, the customer service is bad. There was one other girl there, who was leaving her station constantly to answer the phone. She was very helpful and washed me while Najha was late. But they clearly need a receptionist. I don't know what's up with those videos, but I also noticed that a few of the really dope haircuts from the videos are also on her wall, so I don't know if they're a fluke or from 10 years ago or what. Clearly, she knows how to cut hair but my hair is very easy to do. I can make it bouncy and fluffy myself. I can make it stand up with a tight curl, and I can put hold on it to keep it that way, but for some reason she wasn't able to do any of that. Plus she's really over priced. She had no respect for me, my business or my time. The days of me sitting in a salon for an hour waiting on somebody to show up or being there. Three hours and my hair looking average went out of style 20 years ago. I gave it a shot, but this was definitely a waste of time. On the only positive note, she didn't gossip and wasn't negative like some hairstylist. And the other girl who works there seems really sweet and it's clean and the music was nice but as for the hair, none of it was worth my time. read more

I found this salon on instagram and been following this salon for quite some time. I was a little concerned because sometimes what you see online isn't what you get and I read some of the yelp reviews. I traveled from AZ to get my hair done and let me tell you. The atmosphere, knowledge and customer service was amazing. My stylist Dee was so professional and honest. I had some breakage in my hair and she cut and styled my hair like no other. She didn't try and up-sale me with things for my hair , she was simply honest. I appreciate this experience and will definitely travel from out of town anytime to get my hair done by Dee. I came here a while ago for a silk press and trim with Christina. She had been doing my hair for a while at a previous natural hair salon she worked at before coming to this salon. I love her! But the only reason for 3 stars is that I felt like my service was rushed (at no fault to the stylist) and the atmosphere wasn't nearly as relaxing as I was hoping it would be. For me personally, those are extremely important aspects to my overall experience. In the end I found a new stylist who is one on one and extremely thorough with all of her clients from when you walk in, until it's time to leave. True she can't service multiple clients at once, but honestly quality over quantity is the way to go, especially when dealing with hair and overall customer satisfaction! But I will definitely come here again if I can't get an appointment with her because Christina does well with my hair! read more

I'm visiting from Cali (Bay Area) I just got a relaxer and cut a week ago. Saw this place on IG and I only wanted a wash and style. The atmosphere is nice (2 stars), the stylist greets me and we discuss my hair style (1 star) and the young lady who shampoo'd & wrapped my hair was great (2 stars). I sat under the dryer for a while. My stylist (Shoshanna) came and took the wrap strips off and I sat under for a few minutes until the dryer cut off.....I was under there waiting for every bit of 15 minutes. She comes to get me and we go to her chair. She says she'll trim a little off bc it's a bit lifeless. Which I understand bc my hair is like that with a relaxer it thickens up in about 2 weeks. I'm like cool, she's cutting and cutting. I'm thinking there's not much to cut bc I just got a cut last week. She tells me whoever cut my hair did it in a man's cut. Not feminine and cut off too much in the back. I agreed with the back and was a lil ehhh with the feminine part. Nonetheless when she finished I wasn't like ahhhhh haaaa. It was like oh okay. It looks okay. When I called last week for an appointment, I was informed it was $60 for a wash and style. The receptionist says $100 for a cut and style. (- 3 stars) I'm like what? A cut? Maybe a trim and that's reaching. I'm not happy with the price and services rendered. I almost want to call my bank bc I feel ripped off. She didn't "cut" much especially not $40 worth. Everything was rushed as though they were overbooked. I left feeling like I could have done a better job myself of styling my hair. I could have saved the $120 I paid to for a shampoo and trim. As a new customer, you have to book a $25 hair consultation before they will do your hair. When I got there, the stylist asked what did we discuss during the consultation. Did she not take notes? I am extremely disappointed with the owner Najah and her staff. I drove 6 hours to my appointment and when I arrived to my appointment Najah wasn't there. The receptionist said she left and wasn't coming back. I received no call informing me the appointment was canceled. Both her receptionist and her assistant said it was a scheduling error. They offered no compensation and they all seem unapologetic. I will never go to LTR again. I traveled from out of state and received no compensation after being promised I would. Robyn and Talaya are better stylist and left this salon. LTR is expensive and unprofessional. Extremely unacceptable business practices. I didn't get the haircut I came there for and I had to go elsewhere to get my cut corrected. My scalp feels irritated from the products she used and I have redness and bumps from the products she used. read more

The atmosphere is very nice and the stylists are so good at styling hair that it is never a second thought about returning. It's been over two weeks since I visited LTR and I wasn't sure if I was going to write a review because I'm not one to publicly bad mouth a business, especially when it's evident they've put a lot into it. I might call my mother and complain, but that's different. Well, after some thought, here I go.... I was sooooo disappointed. I've followed this salon for months while living in a different state. I was so excited to move to ATL and visit this salon. Regina styled my hair and it was terrible. I wanted to cry right on the spot. I was very specific about what I wanted, and showed her a photo of a style I saw on the LTR facebook page. She seemed to be more concerned with pushing the products sold in the salon, from Phyto vitamins to satin pillow cases, instead of really listening to me. After the disaster, Najah, the owner came over and worked on my hair, and I must say, she worked magic and fixed the problem. I don't know how Regina passed the interview. The only way I would return is if my appointment is with Najah but she stays booked, and I'm too afraid to experiment with a different stylist (even though Cheryl comes highly recommended), it's just too expensive to be disappointed twice. I'm so disappointed because I really wanted to like LTR. The salon itself is very nice, and the staff greeted me when I walked in and were very friendly, but unfortunately I don't think I'll be returning. read more

*sigh* Well, it looks like this relationship is over. But why?! I thought we were so good together. Evidently, things change. Im giving it two stars because yeah, I have experienced better.... from LTR!! The salon I started frequenting a few years ago is not the same salon anymore. And now that my stylist is moving away I see no reason to pay the money I pay for such reduced quality and consideration. [I assume], in response to my 1st review & my comment regarding prices the following day LTR posted a notice to FB that they offer students discounts M-W(I believe). On my next visit I mentioned I booked it to receive the discount. *Awkward silence* Shannon walks off and returns to inform me that my services (a relaxer and a cut) didnt qualify for the discount. First reaction was, "you're $h!tin me, right!?" But knowing she was about to place burning chemicals on my head I lightheartedly blurted out a "well that's just funny now isnt it." Yeah... it was awkward. It seems that neither a relaxer or a cut(not a trim) qualify for student discounts... good to know. But no, this alone isnt the reason why me and LTR are parting ways. I remember my first and subsequent visits. In the beginning the service was IMPECCABLE from the time you walked in the door. From uplifting music, smiling happy faces at the counter and throughout the salon, offers of juice or water, cookies... it was great. Someone was always cleaning; whether it was hair off the floor, on the sinks, general sprucing up or helping other girls out the salon was maintained flawlessly. There was an overall feeling of Zen, it was a nice salon. Well, that vision is gone. Over time Ive noticed the dynamic has changed and unfortunately not for the better. The Customer service: Last few times when I arrive and check in Im left standing looking around only to find the receptionist herself was getting her hair done. And that would be fine if one of the plenty of other stylist sitting around could help out at the front rather then wait for... something. No one asks you if you would like a drink of water or juice anymore. No yummies when you come in. More and more I felt like, they'll get to you when they get to you. Next, cleanliness... that standard has fallen.. a lot. It was occurring in more frequent intervals when I would walk around and find the floor was covered with hair at multiple stations. Yeah, its a hair salon but the hair would remain there for the duration of my visit, a few hours. From the dust on the products shelf to lacking toiletries in the water closet a few things are starting to go overlooked Atmosphere: Music has gone from uplifting to typical Top 50 R&B... *sigh* I guess... I liked the happy more. And if the music was off it was just dead, empty silence that echos the conversations of sylists wanting to go home or relationship issues they're having. I recall on my last visit while under the dryer the woman next to me was speaking on the phone having a conversation I wish I didnt have the pleasure of hearing. And apparently she was disturbing the other stylist but no one said anything. Its no longer that friendly, cohesive, welcoming atmosphere and a more of a "do-you" dynamic. So yeah! Im sad that Shannon is leaving but hope her future is wonderful and happy. As for the future of LTR and myself.... the river has run dry. read more

I saw some pictures from Like the River Salon on facebook and I decided I would try this salon out as I was in the market for a good hairstylist. I really liked the pictures of Najah's work, but since she didn't have any appointments for months to come, I decided on Shannon as she appeared to have good work as well. Mistake #1, I should have just waited. I initially went into the salon for a wash and trim; however, I decided at the spur of the moment that my hair really didn't have much of a shape, so I wanted it cut into a bob. What a mistake that was. I take full responsibility for getting my hair cut by a stylist that I wasn't familiar with. I should've waited to assess her work based on my normal hair length. My service was completed back in June, and I say that to say, that I waited about three months to determine whether I was really pissed off about the hair cut itself or the length that she cut it at. I'm confirmed that I hate both and it was the worst decision I've made this summer. First of all she never even asked what kind of a bob I wanted. She just assumed that I wanted an elevated bob (short in the back gradually increasing in length on the sides). I didn't! In fact I wanted a blunt cut bob with the same length on all sides. She would've known this had she asked me instead of just chopping into my hair. To put this review in perspective my hair was just below my shoulders in the back. She cut it up to my ear! Who the hell does that without knowing the customer or having had conducted a proper consultation. I think she sensed that I was unhappy, because after it was all said and done she asked me "Did I cut it to short?" I'm sure she knew it was too short. It took all I had not to cuss her out or behave ignorantly. But to say I hated her after my hair was done is definitely putting it midly. Needless to say, I walked out with a horrible old school bob that I hated. I immediately got a sew-in since I couldn't stand the sight of it. Nevertheless, I'm stuck with this cut and everytime I look at it, I get pissed off all over again. I take the responsibility for deciding on a hair cut with a stylist that I didn't really know, but based on the reviews I thought that this was a professional establishment that conducted real consultations before servicing customers. Like one other reviewer I too have waited several weeks to give an honest review of my experience with Like The River Salon. First off I do not bash or give out negativity, this is just my honest review of my experience. I went in for a haircut I found via Facebook and Instagram. I chose Sindica. I ended up needing a partial relaxer and I think this is where it all went wrong. My hair was very "nappy" and unkept looking when done. I woke up the next morning and every hair was sticking straight up on my head, it won't lay down and I have to spend at least 1 hour getting it to look presentable before work or my day, I do not have the time to literally re-curl and totally restyle my hair every single day before a meeting or work. I actually ended up having to re-do my relaxer and try to cut it into a style where it wasn't just sticking straight out in an attempt to get it to lay down. The products used did not hold up to the elements at all...I was so embarrassed at work that week that I had to take a few days off to fix it... I'm just not into that unkept/nappy look. My stylist did explain the so called relaxer system which leaves texture in your hair, and I did let her know that I was "old school" and wanted my hair STRAIGHT not textured which to me looks very Nappy/Unkept. So my overall experience was not good. I am still waiting another week to relax my hair correctly and finish fixing the cut. Not a fan. read more

Today I had a scheduled and paid for consultation via zoom for a upcoming appointment. I do not live in Atlanta but wanted to try the salon while in town. At 1:31 I called the only number I had which is the same number I left messages on before 404.941.7099. I did not receive a link or meeting ID for the call. I did receive a receipt for the consultation fee. At 1:36pm I received a call from this number 404.416.3128 (51seconds) the person did not acknowledge who they were. She/He said my name, I responded yes. She/He said you have 4 minutes and I replied what? I never got the zoom info and nothing about 4 minutes or time period. She hung up and texted me a link and 6773186229 and she would give 4 more minutes and my zoom appoint would be complete. Zoom was trying to connect.... at 1:40 i told her its trying to connect. At this point she/he said you (meaning me) have an attitude. I replied yes because you (meaning she/he) is the ABSOLUTE WORST! Rude beyond measure and UNPROFESSIONAL at its finest. I was told this person was new and the only one available for the appointment date and the owner has a waiting list 18 months long. I expect a refund. read more

This is the place for a professional salon experience! I have been to this place several times and love the outcome every time! Located in Highland park area, this salon will pamper you with quality products, professional service, and top notch styling skills. My stylist is Cheryl. Very sweet, professional hair stylist. She does awesome work. Najah, the owner is amazing! If you can get an appointment with either of them... Drop everything and book it! You will be very pleased. I travel pretty far to come here, but it's well worth it. The prices are a bit on the expensive side, but you get what you pay for. I have been serviced by both extremes in the past, from kitchen curls for the low to salons that have you wasting your entire day to get it styled. This place gets you in and out, without excess product and color left on your hairline!! Parking is never an issue. There is a free parking garage available for all of the shops located here. No need to park on the street or pay for parking. I highly recommend Like the River Salon, which has been voted Best Salon of Atlanta for 2013!!! Well deserved. read more

First off, this salon just "feels" good. Nice music, relaxing atmosphere and everyone is friendly and professional. I just had a great first appointment with Shatori! She took time to understand the color I was hoping for (I needed a new color for fall), and presented me with several suggestions on how to achieve it. She was patient, creative and seemed to take great pride in her work. She actually giggled as she cut my bob, because she was so excited :) I'm pretty good at styling my own hair, so when I pay money to go to a salon, I am looking for a good experience and a style that makes me feel fabulous. I have only been going to the salon for several months now and I am very impressed. All the stylist are very friendly. They do believe in getting you in and out with quality. You do not have to concern yourself with your stylist being "over-booked" and you sitting at the salon all day. You are there at a reasonable amount of time based on your services. It is good to find a salon that specialize in short hair. Granted, there are a lot of stylist in Atlanta, but MOST of them specialize in weave and long hair. LTR is the 1st of it's class to specialize in short hair with quality...without the "hard curls" Great products and service here. I wouldn't trade it read more

I went to Like The River on the 15th of January, my stylist was Shatorie. I had a great experience with my stylist and this Salon. I opted for the wavy curly look just because I wanted something special for my Bday party which was the next day. The look was really nice but didn't hold for my Bday party. My hair is very soft and had done damage from weave hairstyles that I had been wearing for about 6 months. I enjoyed conversing with Shatorie and enjoyed my shampoo deep conditioning. I recently moved to Inman Park and decided to bite the bullet and try this salon after researching every salon I could find within 15 minute walking distance. Unfortunately, $30 for a men's haircut (before gratuity) was the best price I could find in a neighborhood where men's haircuts run $40-$60 for 30 minutes worth of work on a basic short haircut. I normally pay $20 before gratuity at a salon in Buckhead, a location that is far less convenient. I was willing to pay the price difference for the convenience if the haircut would be as good. I just booked my next appointment at the far less convenient location with my normal stylist in Buckhead. I've never had a bad men's haircut until I went to Like the River Salon. Our hair isn't that difficult. We don't ask for much. I had no idea that cleaning up the hairline around the neck and ears could be so difficult. I had no idea that examining the current length of hair and seeing how the shape just needs to be made into a slightly shorter version of it's present state could be so difficult. I didn't need a lot because I get a haircut once a month. I was really disappointed by my haircut at this salon. I would give 1 star based on the haircut alone. I gave a 2nd star only because I commend them for not charging $40-$60 for a basic men's haircut like the other numerous salons in the neighborhood. My stylist was also very nice and conversational, and seemed to want to make me feel comfortable. With that said, I would rather them just tell me that they don't specialize in men's haircuts and advise me to look elsewhere. So I live in Oakland and called months in advance to make an appointment with the owner Najah. I spoke to her assistant. Explained that I lived out of town and would be coming in to see the Instagram famous hair stylist. She gave me an appointment, we had a confirmation, and the day finally arrived. I was so excited. I get there and waited an hour and a half for her to arrive. Then we she came in she never apologized. Then proceeded to tell me that we should have had a consultation and how did I get an appointment. I explained that I went through the proper channels as listed on her website. Well after stomaching the terrible attitude she didn't even give me a good cut. I have finer thin hair and she really only does well if you have thicker relaxed hair. I tried to put on a good face but I was actually hurt and so deeply disappointed. Some stylists (especially in the black hair community) require you to jump through hoops to get your hair done and then to get there and be treated with absolutely no decency is unacceptable. I would never recommend her to anyone. Especially in Atlanta where there are so many amazing hair stylists. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about LTR Salon. Making my appointment was easy and I had the privilege of getting an appointment with Nijah. Everyone from the front desk clerk, to the shampoo girl, to Nijah herself were so pleasant and professional. Oh and I absolutely LOVE my cut! Nijah did an ole "nasty" cut and style on me that's got me feeling myself! No excessive waiting either. She started on me shortly after I arrived and finished a couple hours later which was expected considering what I was getting done. The flow at this salon is something that has to be experienced at some point in your life if not for the rest of your life (lol). Like The River has talented and professional stylists that have a passion for what they do and that is very hard to find with the Million & One stylists here in Atlanta. The atmosphere and the music in the salon is very relaxing. It's like walking into a hidden oasis when you walk through the entrance of the salon, I am almost hesitant to leave. I had heard so much about this salon and I too saw many pics online of nice short hairstyles. I made an appointment which was made by the owner and she booked me with Regina. She was not very friendly upon greeting me and when it was time to actually style my hair I asked what she thought would look nice she offered no suggestions just handed me her phone to show me her styles on Instagram. Also, she made sure to tell me that my hair was dry but not in a concerned manner just by the way type comment. The salon experience REDEFINED!!! After visiting this salon, I realized how dysfunctional many hair salons are! It is NOT normal to sit in a salon for upwards of 6 to 8 hours to get your hair done. For many years, I thought that this was the "norm" among African American hair salons. Maybe I'm the only one (though I STRONGLY doubt it) that has experienced long waits and less than professional behavior in hair salons. But LIKE THE RIVER has raised the bar for ALL salons everywhere! The ENVIRONMENT is professional yet warm and inviting; the staff is friendly and knowledgeable; and the receptionist is very nice and accommodating. The WORK is amazing! I love my hair every single time that I leave. I am very pleased with the results. My stylist is Kiesha and she is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and nice. However, I have yet to see work from any stylist that was less than impressive. I have a very short cut, but I have seen AMAZING styles leave that salon. Everything from flowing, bouncy long hair, to slick, well manicured locs and twists. They do it ALL!! From the time I walked in until I left my stylist, Cheryl Sarten was not only kind and sweet but she was also thoughtful, compassionate and most importantly PROFESSIONAL. I have been natural since 2009 and one of the reasons was because of the service I have received in several salons in Atlanta area. I have experienced stylists that were less than professional, the environment was not desirable and the service was below par. I even visited a salon where I waited four (4) hours for service because she "forgot" she had booked a "couple of people" ahead of me. However, that was not my experience yesterday with Ms. Sarten and Like The River. Monday, March 19 I decided that I wanted a huge change and I started researching salons. I kept coming back to Like the River's website and after reading reviews about Ms. Sarten I knew I wanted to have an appointment with her. I am so thankful to God that she was available. She is a true gem and was really sweet.....I know my hair was awful....but she never said anything negative. She listened to me and I explained that she could do anything she wanted except shave my hair or make me blond. It is often said that you should let an artist be an artist and I thank God that I let her do what she thought was best. My color is simply stunning and the cut is outstanding!!!! Ms. Sarten knows hair...she knows how to cut and she knows how to style and most importantly, she knows how to educate because she gave me several tips on how to keep my hair looking as if I had just left the salon. My daughter and I use to frequent the salon. I didn't really have a problem with the Stylist or the salon. Some of the stylist were very nice what I did have a problem with was the owner and family staff and some patrons. They where to over the top for me. I don't like people who put on airs the customer were a little snooty along with the owner and family. I'm spending over 500 dollars a month on hair I don't want to come in to a shop and feel judged because its Saturday at 6 in the morning and I don't feel like getting up and putting on the dog when I have to drive and hour into downtown after working all week. Success isn't measured in your attire. So I left and I noticed a couple of co-works left also. Pretty much for the same reason. I don't like snobs. read more

First let me say what happened to me yesterday was 100% my fault. I was looking forward to visiting this salon. My previous and yet still current stylist opened a new salon which is terribly far away from where I live (Suwanee, GA). I was in the market for something closer. I like many others fell in love with the pics I saw on Facebook of this salons client. Everyone looked gorgeous. Here is where things went bad. I had no idea this salon was in the trendier part of town known as Inman Park. There are lots of new restuarants and new housing going up. Hence it's a chore to reach the salon because of construction. They do not have a "dedicated" parking lot so you will have to drive around to find a spot. I did not know that. I saw a parking lot directly across the street. I thought it was odd that hardly any cars were parked there given how popular this area was. Well I found out why. The lot has no attendant. You have to download an app and register (no I am not kidding) to park there. Of course time was working against me and so was my phone. I called a number to register and found out there is a $5.00 fee to have them do it for me. I stayed in the lot even though the salon was only a few feet away. They (the Salon) tried calling me while I was on the phone with the parking lot rip off company. When I got off the phone with them while standing in the reception area of the salon, bad news was given to me. The receptionist said it was 22 minutes late and my appointment was at 1:00 and the stylist would not be able to see me. Shocked, hurt and just floored, I politely said thank you and left. After the gas I used, (by the way I called them twice to let them know I was still on my way) and the trouble of finding parking, I am not returning. The salon from what I could see is beautiful but there are way too many salons in Atlanta where they are less of hassle to get too. I should have given myself more time but it would have been nice between the email confirmation and the phone call I received from the salon to warn me about parking. My hunt continues for a new salon. I am sure the stylists here are great but for me, I just know I will and can find something that is a little easier to get too. My 1 star is merely for location and not services. You've been warned. read more

The stylists at this salon do a good job with hair; but good hair salons come a dime a dozen in Atlanta. They claim to be timely with appointments, not the case. I was not taken back until 1 hour after my appointment time. The salon was not kept the way you would expect for a pricey salon to be. There was hair all over the place as they had not swept after the clients haircut. 2 of the hair wash bowls were draining extremely slow. My hair was swimming in dirty water after it was shampooed. There was only 1 hairstylist that looked like a hairstylist. All the others had unkempt hair and appearances. Not to mention, the parking is TERRIBLE. There are about 50 parking spots for 15 -20 business to share. There is only so much street parking available for the rest of the patrons of all the business. Again they do a decent job with hair but there are so many salons in atl that do hair at that level or better. Its the entire experience that made my decision to not go there again. read more

So this thing happened last week actually it started over a month ago. I started looking at video clips of hairstyles that I just absolutely instantaneously fell in love with and started looking for the salon. After tracking the videos I found @najahliketheriversalon anxiously I called several times actually to no avail for about 2 weeks. Finally someone returned my call. My first red flag or alarm was Naja's attitude. It was very nonchalant not welcoming or friendly at all. It was very cocky and such an inconvenience to even speak with me. She then advised me :well you can make an appointment but I won't be the one to do your hair'. Okaaaay problem I still want my hair done by these people because I'm sure if she trained them then my haircut is still going to be bomb right? NOPE. Naja then stated there must be a consultation and the consultation was $25 I immediately said no problem I just want to get my hair done I pay for the consultation right away. My consultation was for 5 days later December 1st at 12 noon. Well on December 1st I was doing a 12-hour drive from Ohio back to Georgia but I found time to pull over to McDonald's and grab me a coffee power up my device wait for this zone consultation I had my zone consultation with her employee Danielle. I thought the consultation went well Danielle told me to call the salon and schedule an appointment I called the salon to schedule an appointment they gave me an appointment for Wednesday December 15th at 10 no problem right. WRONG. Tuesday morning I sent Danielle a text message confirming the appointment. She never replied until Wednesday morning. She played dumb and started asking me questions like who did I speak to and did I get a confirmation email who and again who did I speak with me while I call the salon at approximately 8:30 that morning because all I wanted was my hair done like I seen at LIKE THE RIVER SALON. No one has returned my phone call to this day. I didn't make it up. My experience with @najahliketheriversalon totally soured me. I believe in supporting black owned businesses but they don't believe in supporting us. All you get is f***** up attitude and no service. F-u-LTR. read more
