We stayed at the log cabin site because the water heater broke in the one that we actually wanted to stay at on the other side of the property... They offerred it up as a consolation. Whoever does their property management needs to be fired. It started upon arrival with the gate access codes. We couldn't get into the property and after wasting 30 minutes of our time going back and forth they finally had to come out and just disable the gate locking mechanism. Come to find out they knew there was an issue with the gate all along. You can tell when the place was first built, it was really nice, but they've done a poor job of maintaining it- just cheap. In the kitchen, one of the heating elements was out on the electric range. One of the glass light pendants was literally hanging by one screw and looked like it was about to fall at any moment. The bathrooms did not come with any shampoo, just one bottle of body wash and a tiny bar of soap. The shower heads are probably the originals - these horrible multi-adjustment arm monstrosities where the tightening bolts stopped working long ago, but they're too cheap to replace them... The first night we slept their was horrible because all the vents upstairs were closed, so we ended up freezing our parents in the downstairs main bedroom and sweating upstairs... The batteries on the TV remotes needed replacing- no spare batteries to be found- we ended up stealing batteries from one remote to get the other to work. The TV's look like they are 15 years old- and none of the directTV controller boxes were configured correctly- all set to the lowest resolution with 4:3 aspect ratio so you wouldn't notice the buffering... My computer monitors are bigger then those TV's- would it hurt you to put a 42" widescreen in there- atleast in the living room? I get it- if you're there for hunting those aren't much of a concern, but they are booking these during the offseason. When was the last time you replaced the pillows? I had 2 down pillows that looked like they were the originals- gross. Replace your pillows every year!! so cheap. On a good note- the tanks/ponds had some good size bass - 3 pounders so great for the kiddos and we saw some wildlife- whitetail deer, and a good amount of turkeys. In closing, unless you're coming here for hunting, do not waste your money or time on this place - there are much better venues for a family getaway in the hill country. read more

My god, the view at this location is insane! Absolutely beautiful, serene, tranquil, etc etc. with the adjectives! I've been all over the world from Dubai to Tokyo and I've gotta say, this place is in my book one of the most relaxing/beautiful places I've been. The ranch is a great place to relax for vacations, holidays, weekend getaways, bar mitzvahs, quinceañeras, (more applicable to me) Chinese new year, whatever you're looking for, you should definitely come by sometime. I'll guarantee you won't regret it. The ranch has some dope swimming holes and who doesn't like wine and horses? The sunset here is surreal, I wish I remembered to take a photo of it. Overall it's ok. I will say, that part of what my wife and I thought we were paying for was the once highly popular wine-tasting room, only to find out that the owners abandoned that side of the business 1 or 2 years ago (depending on who you talk to). The atmosphere is dead. It is nice to be in a secluded area of the ranch (we stayed in the red house), but a natural gathering area would be the wine tasting room whoch is now totally unused space (except for when they have events). Overall, although relaxing, the property seems as if it is in decline. The trails were great for our side-by-side and our pup had a blast. But I think we can find a property for the same cost that can deliver on our expectations better than Lighthouse Hill. read more

The lighthouse accommodations were absolutely beautiful. Many times I have been a bit disappointed when renting without having seen the property but this was exactly the oppositeosite. Let me start off by saying that our accommodations in the Arc De Texas were very nice. The views are stunning and there's lots of things to do on the property. It is also entirely lacking in hospitality. Allow me to explain. This is an entirely unhosted vacation rental. There is no one on site short of a couple of people working in their wine tasting room. So after a long ride from Houston, the only thing on my mind was opening a bottle of wine and heading to the much touted rooftop terrace to wind down before turning in. So the first thing I encounter at the elevator is a sign telling me that during quiet hours of 10 pm to 8 am, the only people allowed on that terrace are the people who rented out the suite on the third floor. The people like us who rented one of the three suites on the second floor were out of luck. Total buzzkill. But we respected the rules and called it a night. It would have been nice if the people who rented the third floor would have been as respectful. From 7 AM onwards it sounded like a herd of elephants running overhead. Since the third floor is a three bedroom suite it seems to attract families with small kids. But that extra time awake gave us time to read the pages and pages of house rules. There's a few paragraphs regarding the operation of the hot tub (not so much the rules but it's a very fussy hot tub where if you don't hit the buttons just right doesn't turn on properly.) There's the section on the pool where you're warned that if you do things to damage the pool cleaner you'll get hit with the repair bill. And then you hit the section where you get to the cleaning. They pass through the cleaning fees to you. But you have to do a big chunk of the work yourself or you pay more. In our studio suite that means paying $50 and hauling the trash out to the dumpster at the highway, stripping the bed and folding the blankets to their specifications, sweeping the floor, hanging the towels a certain way, starting the dishwasher, closing the blinds, and turning up the thermostat. Skip a step and they bill you an extra $50. The end result is while we had a relaxing day of the two days we stayed here, the rest of the time we felt on edge worried that we might break a house rule and find an extra charge on our credit card. It made it hard to unwind when we first got there and it made us tense when we left. And that kind of takes a lot of the joy from going on vacation. I'm sure that the owners have very good reasons for doing what they do. I just don't want to come back here. There's no shortage of B&Bs and other places to stay in the Hill Country where I don't have to haul my trash down to the car and drive it down the road to throw it awaym Cleaning the rooms is part of the cost of doing business. Adding on a charge to clean the rooms is tacky, especially since that should be built into the rental fee. Forcing your guests to do part of the work themselves is downright insulting. read more

But as Kathleen T. stated it is horrible that you get charged a $50 dollar cleaning then you are expected to complete the check out list, which oops I missed. So we were charged an additional $45 cleaning fee. We will not be back. And on top of it all we did not get to go up in the Lighthouse. And like Kathleen stated, a major buzzkill that the rooftop was off limits between 10pm and 8am. read more

The scenery at Lighthouse Hill Ranch is absolutely stunning! If you are a nature enthusiast but still enjoy a little luxury to retreat to, this place is hands down the perfect getaway. Panoramic views and spectacular color displays on the horizon can be enjoyed from the comfort of your room, rooftop patio, many lounge areas around The Arc, or even the hot tub near the grotto. The Arc de Texas is modeled after the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel in Paris, France and offers luxury accommodations with 4 suites. There are also several rental homes available on the property to include the Lighthouse. We stayed in the Joan of Arc Suite which was on the 2nd floor of the Arc and the views are breathtaking! We could see the sunsets over the scenic hillside from our suite through the 4 westward windows. The beds were plush and the decor was beautiful with knotty alder wood doors and trim throughout, 14 foot ceilings, leather sofas, 2 large flatscreens, and scrolled wrought iron accents. There's a kitchenette with two burners, a full size refrigerator with ice-maker, dishwasher, and also a propane grille available in the common area near the pool. The suite is well stocked with pots/pans, dishes/utensils, appliances, spices/condiments, and coffee essentials. Note that there are no closets, drawers, or irons for clothing in this suite, only a single luggage rack. The ranch is also pet friendly and you can bring your four-legged friends for an additional $20 per night. The ranch offers many things to keep you occupied during your stay whether you choose to sit back and relax or are looking for a little adventure. The Arc has a hot tub with swimming pool, fire pit, a wine bar with tasting room and a terrace on the rooftop boasting some of the most magnificent views you've ever seen over the Texas hill country. The ranch spans over 2,000 acres with 50 miles of trails to explore and even staying here 3 days, we didn't see but about 1/2 of the ranch. There are gated sections of the ranch, requiring passcodes which are provided at check-in. 4x4 vehicles or ATV/UTVs work best to explore the trails because they are rather rough with large rocks and some deep drop offs. They have partnered with Texas Trail Rides to offer ATV tours (for parties of 20 or more), horseback riding, skeet shooting and other ranch activities. You can also bring your own ATV for a small daily fee. There are a number of ponds on the property. A few of the ponds were pretty dry, with the best fishing at the south pond which was well stocked with good size catfish, bass, and blue gill. You can purchase bait and tackle at the convenience stores in Blanco--which is only about a 15 minute drive down the road. The large fish we saw swimming in the pond eluded us, but it was still fun catching the smaller ones! This property is strictly catch-and-release and I was rather disappointed to see one of the other guests reeling in fish and sticking them in his cooler. The creek running through the ranch is beautiful and we were told that it is even prettier when the water is running, creating cascading falls similar to those at Pedernales. You can kayak, canoe, fish and swim here and there's even a hot tub overlooking the creek and a waterfall grotto to relax in. It's like having your own private ranch to play, since it's only accessed by the handful of guests staying on the property. You mostly get left alone here, which is kinda perfect if you're celebrating a quiet romantic weekend. Everyone we did run into was kind and friendly, yet completely unobtrusive. Even at the restaurants in nearby towns (which have GREAT food btw) everyone we talked to had the most pleasant demeanor. We seriously contemplated moving here because of the weekend we had! :) Strong winds blow constantly through the Arc so watch your fingers and toes when opening exterior doors--I'd liken them to heavy coastal winds. And ladies, forget about your hair during your stay. Even a tight bun will get blown out and if you use styling products, you'll likely end up with troll doll hair due to humidity and strong wind gusts--especially on the rooftop. There is a $60 cleaning fee and checkout rules you must follow or you'll be charged the full $100 for not completing the checklist. Cancellation policies are also strict, with the ranch only refunding partial deposit before the 30 day deadline. If reservations/cancelations are made after the 30 days, the entire deposit (equal to first nights rate) is forfeited, so be sure to plan accordingly. We couldn't be happier with the experience we had and can't wait to return to explore the rest of the ranch. Fun little weekend get-a-way! We stayed in the Red House with 5 girls for a weekend and really enjoyed it. The house only has one bathroom, but we didn't seem to run out of hot water. It would have been helpful to have more towels and newer/plush towels. These were pretty ratty. Several of us just used our beach towels that we had brought for the hotub. They were kind enough to split the payment between 5 of us. And I think someone even left something and they shipped it back to us. We would definitely return. The hot tub is a little hard to find in the dark, but once your're there, it's super fun! read more

My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary at the Log Home, the newest of the Lighthouse Hill Ranch vacation properties. It was amazing - almost 360-degree views of the Hill Country, privacy on the ranch property, and a huge fenced-in yard with fire-pit and grill so we could spend the day outside with our dogs. The house is fully stocked and could have easily fit multiple families, so it felt palatial with just the two of us and the dogs. The ranch land around the house was perfect for hiking and when we'd explored that, we just ventured to the Northern Tract to explore some more. The neighboring town of Blanco was so much fun - wine, great BBQ and fantastic little farm to table and brunch spots near the town square. And the location is an easy drive from Austin, but situated so that Fredericksburg and Johnson City are an easy day-trip. Loved the Log Home and staying with the Lighthouse Hill Ranch family was so easy and stress-free, thank you! We'll be back for sure! read more

Unfortunately, whenever I read a review about a business, even when the preponderance of the reviews are outstanding, I write that place off as an establishment I will ever visit if I read one or more reviews about a rude manager or owner. Such is the case with Lighthouse Hill Ranch, and Arc de Texas. The reviews of indifferent and/or non-existent staff and employees are all true. Employee attitudes originate with owner/managers attitudes. After speaking with owner/manager Kathy Meyertons, I know painfully well where all the bad behavior originates. read more

Beautiful views. Lovely facility. Great wine. Rotten hospitality. I stopped here on a road trip with my husband, mother and sisters, and, upon entering the wine tasting room, we were met with a palpable unfriendliness from the gray haired 40-something bartender. Even after we had made an attempt at warmth and my family had ordered tasting samplers, his attitude was so pronounced that I was driven to say to my sister (and within earshot of the offending party), "I don't think this guy wants us here." Regardless, we ended up ordering and tipping generously, all of which I had mixed feelings about. Perhaps it doesn't matter to The Lighthouse that they offend the casual passers-by, as their suites and houses generate bigger money per customer than their wine tastings. Perhaps they don't like gay people, or maybe our t-shirts and shorts made us look too pedestrian to warrant a smile or a civil tone of voice. Regardless, when your business is hospitality, attitude is everything. Though the view was breathtaking, we will not be returning. read more

Stopped by this afternoon on our way back to Austin from a day in the Hill Country. Upon entering the wine tasting room with only 6 customers and two employees there was no greeting. We proceeded to review the posted wine list and chose a table; sat for 5 minutes with no one coming to ask how they could help us. We had decided to order two different flights of wine plus an hors d'oeuvre platter. After the 5 minutes of total indifference shown by the staff, we decided to leave. I didn't stay here. But we did a day trip here to see some friends who had rented a house on the property. The property is amazingly pretty and there's a ton of things to do here: hike, swim, bike, ATV, ride horses, maybe hunt? They have a cute tasting room. I didn't use the tasting room but we used the pool there and it was nice. You don't have to be a overnight guest to use the pool either. Wine tasting guests can use it too. While here visiting our friends, their AC went out. The property had it fixed within a couple of hours. That was nice to see them handle it quickly. The house our friends stayed in was a nice house. However, the drive to get to it will seriously mess your car up with bottoming out if you don't have a SUV or truck. Our friends said they don't warn you about that either - so FYI. If you have a car, be prepared to basically drive 5 MPH to get to one of the houses. Or plan on bottoming out your car I can't give this 5 stars only because we were there for half the day, so I can't speak too much on the service, housing arrangements, property activities too much, etc read more

What an amazing place...that I almost want to keep a secret. The rooms are amazing, clean and fully equipped with all you could need. The owners are so kind and accommodating and even came to help us with the hot tub at 9:30 at night, and the ATV trails are extensive and beyond belief. Loved this place! My husband had come with friends and stayed in one of the cabins and ran the trails on ATVs. For our anniversary he surprised me with a trip up to Lighthouse Hill Ranch. We stayed in the Napoleon Room in The Arc - the large square building on the hill with an archway in the middle. Nice room, beautiful bathroom, kitchenette with minifridge and dishwasher. Condiments are even provided! Have pool, hot tub, outside grill and rooftop patio for relaxation and enjoying the view and beautiful Texas sunsets. There is an extensive wine bar downstairs. It is apparently quite popular, but we did not partake. In between Johnson City and Blanco. We went antiquing in Blanco & Johnson City. Was a really beautiful, romantic, relaxing & fun place to stay. read more

Their customer service is awlful. We wanted to reschedule our stay due to the inclement weather in the area from the hurricane. Was told we would lose our deposit that it was " their policy " that you can't reschedule a stay without putting another deposit down. They lost my business and much more as we were looking for a place for future retreats for business meetings. I should have given them zero stars. read more

Stayed here for a night and I loved it! There's a pool with a slide, a hot tub, and a tennis/basketball/volleyball court. The views of the hill country are breathtaking, especially from the top of the tower. There are 4 bedrooms- 2 on the first floor, 1 on the second and 1 on the third. Everything is well furnished. There are a lot of stairs! But the climb is worth it. Overall, I had an amazing time and enjoyed my break from the city. read more

Well we stayed at the Brown house. Luckily, we didn't realize this was the best. Creek was great, went there everyday. Enjoyed every minute. Able to prepare food in the nice kitchen. Watched Shark week. Went for a hike, ate a lot. Why do I eat so much? Everything taste so much better. The bedrooms were all comfy. Took the grand kids to the SCIENCE MILL had a very good time. At night, watched the stars, they are so bright. Pecan Street Brewery great people good food. Not too happy about the Lowe's grocery/hardware store. It was not what I thought. But several HEB along the way. EL AGAVA was also good. The family and I will all be back. Thanks so much for a great stay. Oh no almost forgot about the fishing. Wonderful concept of cash and release. The grand babies and I loved it. I still have issues removing hook. LOOK! Didn't get the big catfish, although we tried. A great stay. The Arc de Texas is definitely a cut above the rest. The staff is friendly, professional and very knowledgeable. The views are amazing, especially from the terrace. If you are headed to the vineyards and breweries in the Texas Hill Country be sure to schedule this stop along the way. I like craft beer and my wife enjoys finer wines - the Arc de Texas satisfied both of us. My wife said that her wine tasting,"... was like traveling the world". They also have vacation rentals! If you're looking for an amazing stay in the hill country look no further. Gorgeous scenic views, charming accommodations and wine that will knock your socks off. My husband and daughter fished right on the property while I enjoyed the hot tub 20 yards away from them. It was so close you could probably cast right from the hot tub, if you're into that. We thoroughly enjoyed the hour and a half horseback riding. Despite the fact we are novices, our guide helped us traverse the rolling landscape like we had done it before. The tasting room had better wines than any of the wineries we visited. The only thing better than the wine and views was the exceptional customer service. Absolutely amazing ranch with a beautiful little home for the family. There was a perfect fire pit for our use, as well as a rope swing on the tree for the kids to play on. Also, if you took a walk around the property, there were a bunch of giant hay bails, which made for an awesome spot to lay and star gaze. Luckily for us, there was a meteor shower happening that night and the hay bails with the perfectly clear sky made for a magical night! I cannot say enough amazing things about this property. We stayed in the Brown House for a girls weekend. Reservations were easy. The accommodations were over the top, Foosball table, massage chair, fire-pit, patio, FULL kitchen, quiet, secluded and beautiful. Short walk down a road to a hot tub on the river with a spectacular view. All 8 of us were comfortable and relaxed and had plenty of space. Only issue with the house was the bugs (and scorpion that visited a bedroom), us city girls aren't used to but that can't be helped in the country. We only saw one other vehicle on the property the entire time and regret not being able to wander around more. We stayed in another rental a few weeks after this and it didn't touch the accommodations they offer at Lighthouse Hill Ranch. Highly recommend, will absolutely stay there again. read more

Stayed here for a retreat & was absolutely blown away. We were in the Lighthouse, which was perfect for our large group. The building is beautiful & wonderfully decorated to give a balance of feeling like you're on vacation yet also right at home. Everyone loved the pool, tennis courts, bonfire pit & giant living room for all of our activities. The view from the top of the Lighthouse is amazing, especially during golden hour.
