We've had excellent service in both electrical and plumbing with Lighten Up! In finishing our basement, we had them run both the electrical and the plumbing. They were the only subcontractors who showed up on time, and who cleaned up well after themselves. They were friendly and professional. Later we had a home humidifier installed. Again great work, and clean afterwards. The service is not the cheapest, but they've been excellent to work with and we'll use them again! read more

We've had these folks out for electrical work three times. Their business model allows the electrician to give an estimate on the spot. Take it or leave it. No harm no foul. The first two times we were delighted with the work. Above and beyond. Superior. Patient. We were lucky to have had this guy. However, we were unhappy the third time, when they swapped out several light fixtures. This guy was not the same. He told us he could charge up to 400$ to replace a light fixture! What a deal. He only charged us 300$ for each. For that price the fixtures should have been installed straight. Use a level, perhaps? Tighten the screws? We won't hire Lighten up again. read more

This is a difficult review, because I have had good and bad experiences. Their electrician, Caleb, came out, and was very good, although on the expensive side. Then their HVAC people came out and helped solve a couple minor problems without issue. So at this point, I would say I had a positive experience. In comes their plumber, Ben. We needed a minor job to prepare for a project. Ben was the epitome of a salesman, trying to find anything and everything he could claim was wrong to raise the price to almost 3,000 dollars. He then tried to make it seem like he felt uncomfortable leaving without the job done because it was so urgent. We hired a second plumber who came out, and did the minor job for 400 dollars. When asked about the "problems" Ben pointed out, he laughed and said it was typical of them to try and find other stuff to charge customers more money. The good experience does not outweigh the bad, and I will not use them again. read more

We strongly recommend Lighten Up Electric and Plumbing. We had a major problem with our drains not draining, and the dishwasher suddenly flooded the kitchen floor. We called on Monday, and they arrived that very morning. It was a complicated problem and the 3 gentlemen with Lighten Up worked diligently until 6:00 pm. One tech even sprayed the kitchen floor with a cleaner, and swabbed it down. It turned out to be a 2-day project. They were very courteous, arrived on time, called ahead and thoroughly explained everything. We were able to view the problem when they put a camera locator into the pipe. Thank you Brian, Klaus and Dave for your expertise. You 3 are a credit to Lighten Up. read more

It was my mistake for not getting multiple quotes I went with the first quote. I had a chandelier installed in my two story living room and I later went and looked at the invoice which I had no idea what it usually runs to hang chandeliers. It was a big 46" chandelier and 50lbs. Well there was $162 ladder fee!! Then the chandelier was $391! I had another chandelier installed by Anywhere Electric and asked what they would charge for this exact chandelier and they said they have installed this exact one and would charge $250! I got another quote from another electrician and they said $225. This place is ridiculously over priced and left scratches in my hardwood with their ladder! And they didn't even cut the chain they double hung it and it looks bad. read more

The buyers for our home had an inspector that said we had a natural gas leak in 2 places. It was required by our contract to have a plumber come to check it out for us. Michael came out, and I explained the situation. He not only tested and found no leak, but he also took photos and videos that we could share with the buyers for their reassurance. Jenessa in Customer Care also sent an invoice stating that no leak was found. Both Jenessa and Michael went above and beyond. I'll definitely be using Lighten Up for any needs in the future! read more

I'm a Windsor Colorado resident and I rent a home in town.. On Friday August 19th 2015 our main panel blew out.. I called Lighten up because a friend recommended them.. They are local and she said they do a good job.. I have to say they do an excellent job and go above and beyond!! Our electrician Ben was so helpful!! He called me right away followed up and was on time .. He was dressed professionally and extremely dependable. He worked non-stop for 12 hours straight to get us up and running. He communicated with Xcel electric for us and even came back on Sunday to meet them at our home to get us powered back up.. There price was good as well!! I would recommend this company over anyone.. I called several companies and got no call back. Ben and lighten up electric were the only company to call me back.. In fact I got several calls on Monday morning for the others .. Well, they were a day late and a dollar short!! Great job Ben and great job lighten up!! Thank you:) Patty Brown Windsor Co. read more

I recently put in a review on this company because I was upset about them not showing up on 2 appointments. The owner called and I have to say that we had a very good conversation, she was kind and really felt bad that it went the way it did. I will use them again because of the considerate call I received back from the owner. I know things sometimes happen and go wrong and it is how you handle it that really matters and makes the difference. So this is a revision of my review. Renee M. read more

We had these guys out to fix problems when a "handyman" wired some attic fans for us. Maybe it was just good timing, but Tim showed up less than an hour after they were called! He quickly assessed the problems the last guy had left, showed me photos of the issues, and clearly explained what needed to be done to make it right. A couple of hours later and everything was as it should be. Very friendly and personable, and took the time to be sure we knew what was being done before the work was started. Well done! read more

I had an issue with some electrical work in my home. Concerned about what to do, I came across your website and immediately scheduled an appointment. Tim (electrician) came to my home and performed the service work for me. He also took the time to go over several options for me and tailored to my budget. Tim went above and beyond just providing the repair work I needed, but also explained concepts that were easy to understand. He's a prime example of professionalism and a valuable asset to LIGHTEN UP. Quality service, reasonable prices, professionalism....I HIGHLY RECOMMEND to others! read more

I have come to appreciate Yelp over the last two years as it's a great resource to learn a little something about a new business I am about to try. I have found that the feedback from customers is usually pretty honest and I appreciate that. I'm also reasonable enough to discount the occasional negative review that was clearly written by an ill mannered, emotionally stunted person. So when I had a recent issue with fire alarms going off randomly for seemingly no reason two nights in a row, I began to worry that it might be due to an electrical issue... and the thought of having another sleepless night due to nerve wrecking fire alarms was out of the question. I called Lighten Up Electric and they accommodated me in their busy schedule and sent a Master Electrician out to see me that afternoon. He did a full electrical inspection and took the time to listen to my concerns, answer ALL of my questions and advise me on all my options. Everyone I spoke with was very friendly, professional, knowledgeable and HONEST. The prices are reasonable given the quality of service. I am very happy to have found a trusted, reliable electrician. I would highly recommend! read more

Got an estimate from this company and I was in shock of what they wanted to charge for replacing a toilet valve, lever and and outdoor faucet. Needless to say I did not use them for this service. I did use their electrician to look at my lights in my kitchen and was charged over $200 for him to change the lightbulbs, that I had bought. I had one of my lights that was continuing to flicker, so I took the bulb out until I could get an electrician out because I thought it was an electrical issue. It happened to be one of the lightbulbs that was different was the issue. I am ok with being charged something, but not that much to just replace my lightbulbs. read more

Never again! I had used Lighten Up last year for some plumbing work and had been satisfied. Last week we noticed wastewater backing up through the drain in the basement and the house smelled of sewer gas. Called Lighten Up. They were able to have a tech here within an hour. They were not able to clear the line and it appeared I would need to have the sewer line replaced. They brought in an excavator and dug a relief pit in my driveway and were supposed to replace the line on Monday of this week. I was told the excavators would be here Monday morning. At noon, after seeing nobody, I called. They told me in about an hour. Ninety minutes later, another call. This time they said ten minutes. For the rest of the day, I got differing stories and times for when the work would begin. Finally, at 5:00 p.m., I told the manager handling the job that I was done dealing with it for that day. He assured me that I was first on the schedule for the next day. At 6:30 p.m. Monday night my doorbell rang. There was a guy with his two kids (about 10 and 14 y/o). He said, "I'm supposed to dig up your driveway, or something." He had no clue what the job was and he was in his van with no equipment to actually do the work. I asked him why he hadn't been there in the morning. He responded that he needed to call his boss. I started to say something else and his kid said to me, "Just shut up, old man." I threw them off my property. Tuesday morning the manager showed up and said the excavating crew would be there shortly. Ten minutes later, they showed up. Two guys in a pickup truck with no equipment. They said the excavator was right behind them and should be there any minute. An hour later, they said their excavator had just quit and they MIGHT be able to have another crew the next day. To his credit, the manager fired them on the spot and called another company. They showed up that afternoon. But now there's some problem with permits (which should have been taken care of before) and it will be another 5-7 days before anything can be done. At this point I fired Lighten Up. They did refund my entire deposit right away. But I still have a large pit in my driveway that wastewater from my house dumps into. I have another company coming to actually fix the problem. Lighten Up is an inconsistent company. For small jobs they seem to be pretty good, if not a little on the high side for prices. For anything big like this, they are obviously out of their league. The worst part is the lies and different stories they tell you to keep you quiet while they aren't doing anything. I do like their office staff. It's a pity they don't work for a better company. There are better places out there to call for services. Bypass Lighten Up unless you happen to enjoy aggravation. read more

Had an appointment scheduled for over a week. They called the day of and cancelled. They then stated that it would be AT LEAST A WEEK before they could re-schedule. Absolutely unacceptable. I asked why I was moved a week back, and why I was punished for this. They could have fit me in, but, they chose to work with others who made appointments after mine. Most businesses will charge a fee if you miss an appointment like this. Where is my fee? I will never work with this company again, and am advising everyone I know to stay away from them. read more

Not Trustworthy. They told me that 3 parts needed replacement and tried to charge me over $800 to fix my furnace, said it would take three days. I got a second opinion and it cost me less than $200, plus it was fixed the same day and has been working fine for the past month. Only 1 part needed to be replaced, not 3. Their response was "We didn't want to void your warranty". I checked with Goodman...my warranty would have been, and currently is, fine. read more

Unfortunately I cannot recommend Lighten Up Electric and Plumbing. I called in about an issue with a sewage pump and had the following experience. 1. Person who took the phone call did not understand the landlord/tenant policy, resulting in me wasting 4 hours during the day to meet the technician at the home that I own and rent out. 2. Technician called me 40 minutes before our agreed upon time asking if I was ready yet. "No, I'm still driving to meet you, because we agreed to meet at 11am, not 10:20." 3. Was charged a $29 "dispatch fee" plus an outrageous $199 for a "diagnosis" which was the tech replicating the problem I had described, which took a total of about 20 minutes. 4. Technician did not get to root cause - instead, he suggested I call a plumber. I thought there was some advantage to working with a company which advertises "plumbing and electric." I guess not. 5. Technician promised to discuss the issue with his plumbing manager and get back to me. No one ever called me to follow up. This would have been a close to $1k service - instead, it went to someone else. The tech was very nice, attentive, and clean. However, he was unfortunately also unable to fix the issue I called about, and the company overall - while very quick to bill - did not follow up once they had my money in hand. Needless to say, I will not be calling again. read more

I used this business a few years ago and was pleased. Dont know what changed, but i requested an estimate for dropping in a new sink (identical size and shape,) new disposal, and faucet. No sawing, cutting, or anything beyond tightening the already-existing water lines. The guy quoted almost $1600, which is almost double the next highest quote i got, which was from a well-established licensed, bonded company. When I asked the guy why it was so much higher than the range i found for the greeley area, he opened the cabinet under the sink and asked me if I knew how to connect all of the stuff in there! (Answer: yes, I do, since all of the hookups are already there and only need to be screwed together. I can no longer PHYSICALLY do the work. read more

In 2019 we hired Lighten up to replace our 23 year old smoke alarms with new ones. In the following 11 months we had 6 false alarms at night and early morning hours. Lighten up has responded with techs who were not able to resolve the issue. We called the manufacturer who gave us more information and possible solutions. We contacted Lighten ups service manager who assured us he would personally check the system out. This has not happened. We will not use them again and do not recommend them. read more

Had three outlets that were not working. I tried replacing them myself and I could not get anything to work. Got a quote from Lighten Up and they came out and fixed the issue in less than an hour and at a very reasonable price as well. I had Lighten up Electric come out to check out a leak in my basement. After 10 minutes of looking at only the exposed piping the plumber said it must be a leak in the foundation and "I" not him, should rip out the dry wall along the wall until I found the leak. And if it happens to be a pipe call Lighten up and they would come back to repair it. The charge for the advice that could of been given over the phone, $159.00 These guys are pure con artist. My advice do not use them. They will not find the problem, charge you and there manager Ty will call and tell you that you shouldn't have signed your receipt or given payment if you were not happy, because they do not do refunds. DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING! read more

No electrical or plumbing experience with these folks, but, one of their drivers just about ran over me in their van this morning while I was driving south through Boulder! Apparently this is how they get to your home so quickly! I drive a small car and it was like they stepped on the gas and passed me so close that I screamed in the car. I don't have the license plate because they sped around me way too fast! In any event - just based on this experience I would not want to call them for a job!! read more

We needed under cabinet lightening put in as soon as possible so our backsplash tiler could get to work during a kitchen remodel. Martha was very efficient on the phone and Caleb came to the house two days later right on time, calling to let me know he was on his way. Their goal is to show up, give a quote, and do the work right then--no rescheduling for the actual job. He was quick and efficient and everything seems done correctly so far. The Lightning is perfect. I would agree with the other reviews--they are good but expensive. It came out to about 200$ an hour and we supplied the lights. However, we didn't get any other quotes so this may be par for electrician work. I will definitely call them again if I need an electrician. read more

I'm sorry to report that I find this company unethical, and dishonest. Two plumbers came to see our home in Fort Collins, where we had a plumbing leak. They, together, would make shocked faces, shake their heads, and state it was really, really bad. I asked them to stop doing that, as it was very disturbing, and one (an apprentice) seemed to understand how unsettling it was. They looked at several of our issues, and proceeded to give us a long list of "required" (and immediately needed) fixes. They charged us $285 for the diagnosis only. We had another plumber give us a second opinion.... and none of it was "disaster" as proclaimed....and fixed it in under $100, diagnosis and all. I called Lighten Up to complain, and Celeste, office manager, stated they were "selling" technicians.....what does that mean?? She stated she would speak to the manager and get back to me. That was 5-21-21.... now five months ago. I will update this review if I ever receive a call from them. read more

Reasonable priced. Not cheap, but I didn't want cheap work done! Fast service. Was available when we needed them. Overall would hire again!

They came out on a Sunday when we had a leak and no water, and fixed it within an hour!

I hired Lighten Up to come and do a sewer inspection for me on a home that I am in escrow with. They gave me a bid over the phone that magically increased DRAMATICALLY after the service person showed up 25 minutes late to the appointment. For 30 minutes of work it cost $423. That is an outrageous fee for the amount of work performed. When I called and talked with the manager to complain about their prices and customer service they emailed a video recording of my voice and thought that gave them an out. I have alerted many people to less than honorable practices and will make it a point to mention their poor customer service at any chance I get. I would not give them any stars for service but that is not an option on this review. Shortly after I posted this review...I got this response from Lighten Up. Shows their consistent level of customer service.... Guess Lighten Up Electric and Plumbing didn't like my opinion about their service. Here is the lovely email I just got from them. Nice huh? We just had Lighten Up install a whole house fan. We selected them after getting bids from several companies, all offering the same or similar services. The work was scheduled and completed quickly, and we couldn't be happier. It's the first time we've slept comfortably at night all summer! Highly recommended! read more

Was not at all impressed with Mike, the plumbing technician sent to diagnose the sewer smell in my kitchen whenever the dishwasher ran. Was offered a jet cleaning of up to 250" feet of pipe for a cost of $1,126.94 including their drain maintenance product. The tech could not explain why the P trap for the dishwasher was dry allowing sewer gases to escape. I paid the $29 diagnostic fee and called another plumber, Tallon Services. They correctly diagnosed the problem, traced the vent pipe and rerouted the dishwasher, and closed off an unneccessary P trap at a total cost of $169. read more

I found this company on the BBB site. I needed my garbage disposal replaced, so I called for an estimate. They would not give me one over the phone, but I had a technician come out to assess the problem. My disposal was broken, which I knew, so he proceeded to give me pricing. He gave me 3 package deals to choose from: 1. $535 2. over $600 and 3. over $700 plus they encourage a "jet" device over $200 to help prevent clogging of pipes. I was shocked at the price. I agreed to the lower price. After they left I called around, should have done this before, and the pricing was from $175 to $250. The cost of the garbage disposal is $100 at home depot, plus another few dollars for parts. The remaining $400 is labor is guess. I've called and emailed repeatedly for breakdown of the costs, but I have not gotten any response. I have filed a complaint with BBB as well. This is "highway robbery" to charge such ridiculous amount for a simple service that didn't even take an hour! DO NOT USE THEM IS YOU WANT A FAIR PRICE. I talked to service manager, and he explained pricing. I still don't agree with the how high the prices are, but he compensated me some. He was a nice man willing to hear my concerns. I would probably use them again, but I would obtain 3 quotes first! read more

This is the first time I have ever written a review on service I have received. I feel compelled to do it today. I will make a long story short. I called several HVAC companies to get a quote for a furnace repair, and Lighten Up Electric was the only one not to inform me about a Diagnostic Fee. Because of this, to save some money, I put off the repair of our furnace for another day, when other companies could have come out and helped. When the technician arrived at my home, he informed me about a $99 fee before he could start any work. When he saw that I had taken the cover off of my thermostat and the power switch to my furnace was taken apart, he would have to charge me an extra $100 to put it all back together. I put it all back together for him in 3 minutes to save the $100. At the end of the day, the problem was a bad limit control. Its a cheap part, no more than $20-$60. It took the technician 10 minutes to replace the part. Grand total at the end of the visit? $595! The technician gave me incorrect information on the part that he was going to replace...I would never have agreed to the price had I known. I also feel that the owner and the technician conducted themselves unprofessionally when I requested a price break down for the labor and the parts. I got the response, "Did he not fix your furnace?" When I asked the technician why there was such a high charge for a job that involved a $50 part and 10 minutes of labor, his response was "Did you know what was wrong with your furnace before I got here?" They were not so interested in understanding and listening as they were in telling me I owed them money. I guess I should not have trusted as much as I did, and asked better questions to understand the cost. I am an HVAC rookie, don't know much about it. But, I do know that I feel taken advantage of today and will not be doing business with Lighten Up Electric ever again. $600 is a lot for anybody to pay, and I expect honest and up front information, as well as a fair price. P.S. I do have to say, this company does have VERY friendly and fun to talk to office staff who work the phones. They were great to work with. Unfortunately, that was my only positive experience with this company. read more
