They were hired by the buyer (first time home buyer) who had put an offer in on the property. Based on the video taken by the tech, "Master" Plumbing "Solutions" proceeded to provide the Buyer with an Inspection Report falsely detailing "an immediate threat for a catastrophic main line backup or structural pipe collapse". The report conveniently included a quote/proposal at the end of it for a total excavation and replacement of the entire 78' lateral for $25,000.00 (this did not include any required City permitting or landscape, concrete and asphalt repairs). The proposal called for replacing it with Schedule 40 PVC when today's new sanitary laterals require 4" diameter SDR 35 PVC sewer pipe (you would think a "master" plumber would know the code and the significant difference between the types of pipe). The proposal also called for 98' (?) of structural CIPP epoxy lining which is essentially a trenchless repair that can coat a sewer pipe without digging it up. This was not an either/or, it was both methods!! This obviously freaked the first time home buyer out and almost blew up the deal. Admittedly, there was some scaling on the cast iron section (very typical on cast iron installed in the 80's) and minor root intrusion on one joint of the clay section but there weren't ANY restricted flows, breaks or sags in the line. After sending Plumbing Solution's provided video of the line to 3 other sanitary line installers and professionals and the buyer's realtor talking them off the ledge, it was given a second, third and fourth professional opinion. We ended up descaling the existing cast iron section and rooting the minor intrusion of the one clay joint, and presto!!, the line was good as new for less than 1/10th of the price quoted by this company. Beware of snake oil salesmen!!
