Amberton University is, in my opinion, a fantastic school to complete your undergraduate or…read moregraduate degree. I myself completed my MBA in Strategic Leadership and also earned a post-graduate certificate in Change Management. I was a traditional undergraduate student for about two and a half years after high school until my scholarships ran out. I went to work, intending to go back and finish my bachelor's degree, but did not do so for nearly ten years. In all I attended a community college, a huge state university, then finished my undergrad degree at a small state university taking night classes after work. I therefore had an opportunity to see how traditional trappings of college worked at three different brick and mortar schools. My full time job requires business travel, and therefore a traditional college evening or weekend class structure would have never worked for my MBA. Interestingly enough, the various in-state universities were all steering me into their online programs. Therefore, online degrees do not have the stigma that they had even ten years ago, as long as they also have a brick and mortar program as well. My state has particularly high tuition rates compared to many other states universities. Since I would be completing my degree online there was little reason to take my classes at an in-state program other than name recognition. The whole "branding" of universities, outside those of ivy league, is ridiculous. Far more important was the return on the investment. Attending an in-state university program online would have cost me between $69K - well over $100K. How many years would it take to pay that off? In my case Amberton's regionally accredited program was under $20K. Checking the quality of their online program it is rated for value in the top 10. Overall quality of the program was in the middle of all universities, in close rating to some of the schools I considered. These ratings met my needs. Regarding the effort - I liked that the books were often available either online or used. You do not have to use the school's bookstore. I rented most of mine, which saved me a lot of money. Be prepared to write. Be prepared to put in 10 -12 hours a week for each class you take. I typically took two classes a term. One term I took three classes, which in retrospect was nuts. You will need to spend more time during the mid-term week and towards the end of the term. You will be given requirements for papers. Many times they may say "write a paper of at least 3 pages that covers the following". Unless your Prof tells you "do not exceed 4.5 pages" or whatever, consider that a minimum requirement for a C grade. Writing more in depth will earn you a better grade. You also have to participate online. Read the requirements and do not short-change those. Contribute online making sure that you proof-read your submission thoroughly. I strongly recommend this institution for adults returning to finish an undergraduate degree or masters degree. It does not have the trappings of a huge state university, which I did not feel the need to have bundled into my tuition. I was there to learn, and felt it was a great value. You do, though get out of this program what effort you put into it.

My experience with Amberton University has been very strong. I did extensive research before I…read moredecided on a master's program at this school. There were a few aspects of the university that made me decide to go with their program. Top of the list was excellent reviews by current and former students. Next, I wanted a program that would be extremely challenging, as I wanted a high quality education from a regionally accredited university. Last, I needed flexibility within my work schedule to be able to do my writing and research when I wanted. For me, Amberton fit all of these requirements. I am about halfway through my MS Human Resources, and I have been extremely pleased with the professors, and the education I have received. My GPA is high, but I have worked very hard for it. This school is not for the faint of heart, so be prepared to dedicate a lot of time to your class on reading and writing papers. Also, you must receive a 92% to achieve an A grade, 82% for a B, etc., and during undergrad I was on the standard scale of 90-100% being an A. The only reason I did not give Amberton five stars is due to their current online interface. Although they have made large strides in the past year to upgrade the online experience, there is minimal use of multimedia and interactive resources. Being a smaller school, I understand it takes a large budget to get there, but in my opinion this is the one area their programs are currently lacking. Once they fill this gap, it will be a five star experience. All in all, the education I have received has been extremely valuable, as I can apply it in real-time at my current position. I recommend this program to anyone who is serious about their academics, and wants to use their degree to succeed in the future. I'm very confident my degree will enhance my ability to be promoted in the future.

I spent five days attending the Digital Training & Designs InDesign Bootcamp, and it was AWESOME…read more Digital Training & Designs provides training for all Adobe products (Dreamweaver, Captivate, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.) and Apple products (like Final Cut Pro, Motion, etc.). They have experts on staff that teach these programs, and it doesn't matter how many people are signed up for the class--if they have one person enrolled, they will teach the class! Consequently, my class size was very small, just four of us for the whole week, which meant we got lots of personal attention. You register for class ahead of time on their website. When you begin class, they set you up with a desk and computer of your choice (PC or Mac) in one of their many classrooms. The instructor's monitor is displayed on a monitor beside yours so that you can see everything she does and you can follow along easily. You are provided with whatever necessary manuals and textbooks are required (for InDesign training, we got two). They have a large break room and kitchen with free coffee, tea, and snacks. My class was taught by Joan, who was a gem. She was incredibly knowledgeable about InDesign and just the nicest person ever. She taught us everything we needed to know in those five days. Class ran from 9 AM to 4:30 PM, with two fifteen minute breaks and one hour-long break for lunch. I highly recommend this training school. If you need to learn a particular program, these are the people that will make an expert out of you. I wish I could take more classes here!

I took their two day septic system inspection class in Arlington, which they hosted at a local…read morehotel meeting room. They were organized and well-prepared. There were 23 students the first day doing initial certification and some additional students the second day who were doing their renewals. Don spoke for the entire first day and a portion of the second day on concepts and principles of septic systems. Brian taught for most of the second day on how to do the actual inspection. Although Don is very experienced, he spent a significant amount of time relating personal anecdotes, and going through his PowerPoint presentation. By his own admission, he does very few septic inspections. Brian lectured as well, and although his presentation was only a third of the of the class time, it was by far the most useful portion. If I had not careful read through the manuals from NAWT and heard Brian's presentation, I don't think I would've been adequately prepared for the exam. Overall, I think the course was probably worth the cost, but average in the quality of instruction compared to other providers. They would be better served by having people who are actively working in the subject matter area do more of the lecturing. In talking to other students, it seems that some of their other courses where there are hands-on training times, such as their pool inspection courses are better.

Today I had an employment interview with TCC-TR. It was with their facilities department. Already…read morefamiliar with the campus from my time as a student, I had no problem finding the correct conference room. The panel of interviewers were all from the facilities department. It was a great time of back-and-forth questions and answers. Afterwards, I strolled over to my friend's office for a quick visit. Saw a lot of other familiar faces as well. Formerly Radio Shack headquarters (all you millennials who dont know, RS was like Best Buy), the whole building was split between Tarrant has now been aquired by TCC. Back then when RS was still in business they use to share the building, certain sections were RS employees and the rest TCC students/staff. The layout is a bit odd because its on a hill so there are parts where you take an elevator up and then walk down the hall and take the elevator down because not everything is connected. There is a lot of space everywhere you go and you can find cozy little corners to study or take a nap all over the place. If that's not your thing panther island is right outside with plenty of walking trails and during the summer they have paddle boats available for rent. Lots of sculptures and water fountains which look every more beautiful in the summer with the flowers blooming and the Texas heat. I play pokemon go and notice many stops and gyms to keep me entertained. I love this location because there is so much to do between classes, take a walk outside and you are at the trinity river or at a fancy restaurant downtown. This campus in my opinion has the best views of all the campuses, the best cafeteria by a landslide and the best parking situation. Students attending TR need a parking sticker to park here but it is free! All you have to do is go to the police kiosk and show them a copy of your schedule, fill out a sheet and your set to go. Because this parking garage is in downtown they are always strict on parking so FYI. I know a lot of the professors that teach at TCC also teach at other local universities so they are equality professors. You pay a fraction of the price here compared to big name schools. Financial aid is available on top of the already low cost of tuition here. TCC has many clubs and organizations students can join so please take advantage of them.
