Came here for a blood test. I made an appointment online on the lifelabs website the day before and was able to find a time slot for the next day in the afternoon. Oakridge mall was undergoing heavy construction. There's many signs that point to the stairway and up the stairs towards the medical offices area that made it a breeze to find the blood test lab. The staff at this location were great. They were fast and professional. They only asked the relevant questions needed for patient check-in. People who had difficult questions relating to their situation seemed like their concerns were answered and taken care of. Shout out to the people who volunteered to wait on the side who had lots of questions or lost something they needed in their bag and let the people behind them take their turns first. The technician who administered my blood test was professional and fast. It wasn't as painful as i thought it would be and it was finished before I knew it. The only downside is that this location is pretty busy in the weekday afternoons. When I arrived, the place was very busy. There was one or two chairs left in the waiting area and there was a queue that spilled out into the hallway. As far as I know, they accept walk-ins but the wait was about 45-60 minutes. You'll still have to wait awhile even with an appointment. I came in 5 minutes early for my appointment but i still had to wait 4-5 minutes to queue to check-in and another 20 minutes in the waiting room. The other blood test lab i visited last year on Fraser St. took me in almost right away when i came in for my appointment and there was no queue to check-in. Note that there is no free wi-fi available in the medical building or reading material provided so you should probably bring something to occupy your time while you wait. Overall i don't really have any negatives to say for this location except for the long wait times due to it being so busy. read more

I had an appointment for bloodwork today and found myself waiting almost 10 minutes to check in because absolutely no one was available to assist me. Then I had to wait 40 minutes with 3 people ahead of me. There were two people working (as far as I could tell) working in this busy office, with very 5 minute increment appointment slot filled for most the remainder of the day (and I had to wait a week for this appointment time). This is the least personnel I've seen yet working in any Lifelabs office of any size and considering those two people also have to do all the administration it's laughable. When I left the lineup of people waiting to check in was 6 people deep and almost every chair filled by waiting patients. By not providing proper staffing levels are doing a big disservice to the patients for which you claim to want to provide a good customer service experience. I've seen a noticeable decline in the quality of care provided and most of it is down to staffing levels. These skeleton crews simply can't keep up. You should be increasing your workforce, not decreasing it. read more

I have been coming to this LifeLabs location for many years now but the last 2 visits I had in October and November were by far the worst I have ever had. Usually they do their job just fine - I wait ~15 minutes, they process my paperwork, draw my blood, and then I leave. These last two times, however, I was extremely disappointed as the nurses left me with bruises on both my arms! I needed to get some blood work done and both times they tried drawing blood from both arms because they couldn't get any into the vials. They were also wiggling the needle around in my forearm as they would draw blood which was extremely uncomfortable and painful too. Um I'm no expert but I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to move needles around once you stick it in! I've had many blood tests done in the past and have never had any discomfort before but these two experiences were terrible. After the nurses finished drawing my blood, they nonchalantly told me that I'd have bruises that should go away "in just a few days". I will not be returning to this location any time soon! read more

Okridge Center life lab is a worse place because today morning I went there for my blood test and my stole test , the lady was taking my blood she was so rough and I couldn't believe the way she was taking my blood, I was having pain when she poke with the middle, and for stole test she provided me the wrong container, they never respect their patients, they are disrespectful. read more

Came in for glucose tolerance test, meaning 3 blood draws in 2 hours. The lady who did the first draw was awesome. Unfortunately the 2nd and 3rd draws were done by another lady and she was absolutely horrible. Fast but painful as heck and even though I applied pressure for the next 10 mins (usually they only recommend 2 mins only) theres still a lot of blood on the little cotton ball, which almost fell off because she didnt tape it on properly. She wasnt green either cuz there was an intern or whatever shadowing her. Theres massive bruising now. P.S. the place is crazy busy so make sure you make an appointment. read more

This place is crazy busy on a Saturday; it's their busiest day. I waited close to an hour, which feels like an eternity when you have to give a urine sample! The techs and drawing of blood was good. No issues and they were very pleasant. One thing that took me by surprise was no bandaid was used- just cotton ball and tape. My 3 stars is because of the bathrooms. Low on toilet paper with no rolls to be seen anywhere... I began to sweat as I pondered the possible outcomes. After providing the sample, I cleaned up as much as possible with the low amount of one-ply. Then came washing my hands...there was no paper towel to dry your hands with. My pants had to do. Now that I'm home, I shucking off my clothing as I'm finishing this review so I can scrub head to toe. read more

Great experience here this morning. I pre-booked an appointment, and they saw me right on time. Everyone was friendly, efficient, and professional. The lab is one of the tidiest and cleanest that I've visited in recent months. There are lots of chairs in the waiting room, and the walls are hung with some modern inspired photography rather than the usual faded watercolours of Tuscan scenery and wilted flowers. This lab opens super early, which is great for those early morning tests. Tip for finding the lab: The lab is on the second floor of the 'Medical Tower'. Take the glass elevator from the main Mall entrance (near Canada Line station). When you exit the elevator, walk straight ahead through the automatic sliding doors into a hallway full of medical offices. The lab is a few doors down on the left. read more

Go to a different LifeLabs if possible. The workers at the Oakridge LifeLabs are simply not competent in handling the volume of being next to so many medical offices. One of my particular experiences involved booking an appointment online ahead of time for 3:25pm. Upon arriving at 3:15, with about 4 people in the clinic already, I registered at the desk and was told to sit down. At 3:30, I mentioned again that I had an appointment, and was told I was in queue. At 3:45, a new person came in to register. They sit down, and immediately get called up. I go up and ask why I haven't been called yet, since there is now no one else around, and their response is 'oops'. If incompetence had a physical home, it would be LifeLabs Oakridge. read more

I went there at 8am and there were a few people waiting. So I lined up, gave the nurse my form and care card. Told to wait. I waited and waited. Over 35 min. Everyone who was there went in. Even a few that registered after me went in and left. No one ever called my name. Need to catch last shuttle to work. I gave them back a paper clip (yes that's all I got, a paper clip on my form and care card) and had to leave. They sure have problem in the order of patients to take in. read more

I'm a pansy when it comes to needles. No idea why. Throw me off a bridge attached to a large elastic band or down a river full of rapids... no problemo. But come near me with a tiny needle and I shall be a shaking, whimpering woman-child for the next 30 minutes. However, sometimes life requires needles and after finding out I was due for some blood work, and after a rather eventful last experience (i'm a fainter - classy right?) I was more then a little nervous. There was absolutely no wait - which helps with the "anticipation" nerves and the nurse who took my blood was just excellent. When I told her "I'm not good around needles" and "mmaayy have fainted in the hallway the last time" - instead of being overly touchy feely or rolling her eyes, she started telling me stories about other people who had done the same, cracking jokes about the day and asking me about work, etc. She didn't make a big deal of it and that started to put me at ease. By needle-time, I was ten times better off then my last go round. But like I said, i'm a pansy - so after, when I got a bit dizzy and that tell tale white-faced, clammy hands syndrome set - she got me an ice pack, a glass of juice... heck she even fanned me. Never making me feel like the large woman-child I knew I was being. It made the whole experience much less embarrassing/nerve-wracking then my last few. I still hate needles. But when I need to go down that road again - I will definitely go back to that place. Plus - it's in Oakridge Mall so when you survive getting blood drawn, you can reward yourself with shoes and a $7 juice smoothie... read more

What a horrible experience !! I stood there and watched the technician cross contaminate multiple times. She ran her gloved hand through her greasy long hair, wiped her face/mouth and then touched. blood vials, the counters and multiple patients. Without changing her gloves !! She was rude, snarky and DUMB. There was an issue with my paperwork that as it turned out was easily fixed but she wouldn't listen to sense. She interrupted me and raised her voice that I had to return to my physician's office. Not at all, the situation was easily fixed with no need at all to go cross town The technician is completely incompetent and DIRTY. I would suggest anyone that has had any blood work in this location to see a doctor immediately. THIS KIND OF CROSS CONTAMINATION IS DANGEROUS !!!! read more

I hate phlebotomists. But what can I say. I make an appointment online as not to wait. However there still is the time it takes to enter the info from your requisition into the computer. Hopefully as technology progresses one day their will be no need for these requisition forms that seem to be a problem. People forget to bring them, they have to be entered into the computer, why can't my doctor electronically submit the requisition? It would save so much time and hassle. Another problem, but this is more the doctor...when they forget to tell you to fast, your if they want the "first morning sample". I can see that continuing to be a hurdle and more a requirement of the patient to ask and be clear with their doctor what they form says and why they are going. I have had the ladies ask me about what my doctor wrote on the form, ask for my address repeatedly, which doctor is supposed to be CC'd on results. I usually cannot wait to get out of there. read more
