    Waiting room
    Halei J.

My health hasn't been too good this year so I've been here a little more than I've wanted to. But that being said it's usually pretty good, they have a fairly large waiting room and the service is pretty good. When you come in you line up and someone sees you, they take your info down and give you a number, you grab a seat and when they call your number you get your blood test or whatever you need to get done. You can also book an appointment online which is what I usually do and so the wait is very short. If you don't have an appointment it just depends on how many other people are there before you, it could be short or it could be a while. The people who work there are pretty nice too. I believe there is pay parking downstairs as well.

Im a heart transplant recipient and was treated so poorly by the staff at Life Labs on 4980 Kingsway. I left in tears.

Be prepared to to spend at least 90 minutes any time of the day waiting for your turn. There's a coffee shop outside the building, therefore, I went there to kill some time and work on my 'zine. The actual space is cold and uninviting. There are two outlets, therefore, for the long wait there's always someone hogging the plug to charge their phone. The nurses are rushed and impersonal, kinda rude. They don't give you a cookie any more unless you ask. I have issues with blood and faint at every blood test. I fainted of course and when I came to they still didn't offer me a cookie. When I asked for juice and a cookie to get my blood sugar up (I have a blood sugar issue) they looked at me as if I asked them for a million dollars. Not to mention they always have trouble finding a vein. The reason why they get a 3 is 'cause they give results in a reasonable time frame.

So she gave me the referral letter with a list of places I could go. Brooke is nearer to me so I decided to try it. The drawback is there is no free parking at the plaza it's located in, unlike the previous place I went to. I was used to popping over to a radiology/imaging center right after getting the referral letter from the doctor with no appointment. So I did that and discovered I do need an appointment if I'm getting other tests besides X-ray. X-ray does not need an appointment. It's walk in. The service from the reception was quite brusque, not very friendly. They kinda barked at you on the process of even how to wait in line. You only wait in line if you have an appointment. Otherwise just take a number and wait for it to be called. Despite the sign, it wasn't clear to most patients. I guess we are used to just checking in first and then wait. The other staff (technicians, radiologist etc) were friendlier and much better in making you feel comfortable and relaxed so you won't feel nervous about getting tests done. You just have to get through the hurdle of the reception.

After I saw her, I asked to see another doctor and saw Dr Sofia Bayfield who was patient, thorough and kind. I felt I was in extremely good hands. Not only due to his level of expertise but also due to the fact that he truly cares about his client's health and wellbeing. The reports I got back from the lab he used, along with the detailed summary and list of recommendations he provided, were top notch. And he was always willing to answer any of my questions to make sure I understood everything. I feel so grateful that he was referred to me and that I decided to use his services. A lot are going through some pretty serious health stuff, and they are terrified / scared. They should be treated with some level of dignity and compassion, and basic human respect. ALL the clients who go there should be treated with respect. If the staff are stressed because they are so busy, perhaps this giant company should be hiring more people (?) to staff the lab. I notice the labs are often closed for training. At this location, MUCH MORE training is required regarding human interaction.

When I came for my appointment with Dr. Muir, she wasn't there, and the other doctor was covering her shift. The receptionist didn't even call me to say that I will be seeing a different doctor. Following the appointment, I got a referral for an ultrasound to check my cyst and went for the ultrasound, but never got the results. When I finally called Dr Muir's office, they told me I need to follow up with my family doctor, so I did. My family doctor never received the results either. What a disaster and a waste of time! I also had had swab test done at Dr Muir's and the result didn't show up anything because the lab said not enough material collected. I asked to repeat the test and got an answer that I should just take antibiotics instead to treat whatever symptoms I had, without knowing what condition I had because the test didn't work. I had to schedule another test after a referral from my family doctor. Don't forget that waiting time to be seeing is 6-9 month (accordingly Affinity Women's Health Shannon Soga, Office Manager)!!!!! What's wrong with these people at this clinic and the whole system in general??? None of the people seem to have the intention to do good work or explain anything to the patient about the actual treatment. Also very unprofessional staff at the reception desk; very indifferent and negligent in their behavior!
