2025 is my 19th year being a member of Lifetime Fitness so clearly I am a fan! Yes over the years I have had the odd gripe about cleaning but that aside I love the year round pools - both indoor and outdoor - as I can swim outdoors ( almost all year ) and when it's too cold - I can cold plunge!! The price is up there but for me worth it for the pools, sauna, steam room and yoga classes ! They also have pickleball, Pilates, boot camp as well as a spa which I have used for years! Most of all I love the sense of community! I have made so many amazing friends here - people who have also been members since it opened - and that is the difference maker !! Title: Neglected in Mismanaged I've been a member of Lifetime Gym in San Antonio, specifically the 281 location, for the last year and I have to say, it's been a disappointing experience. The gym is supposed to be a luxury health club, but it feels more like a neglected, mismanaged facility that's past its prime--a decaying carcass left to rot under the Texas sun, festering with neglect, health hazards, and a complete disregard for basic upkeep. First off, the maintenance is absolutely deplorable. The sauna door handle is missing, which is not only inconvenient but also a safety hazard. I've attached a picture to show just how bad it is--a jagged, broken piece of plastic and duct tape that looks like it belongs in an abandoned building, not a supposed luxury gym. It's been weeks, and nothing has been done to fix it. Speaking of cleanliness, the locker rooms often have a musty smell, and the showers aren't always clean. There have been times when I've found hair and used towels, shavers and other unsanitary things in the showers. It's gross and shows a complete lack of attention to detail. The real health hazard, however, is in the indoor pool area. I've attached a photo showing the ceiling above the indoor pools, where there's visible mold growing on the pipes. The pipes are covered in dark, splotchy growth, a clear sign of mold that's been left unchecked. This isn't just an eyesore--it's a serious health risk. Mold can cause respiratory issues, allergies, and other health problems, especially in a humid environment like an indoor pool where people are breathing heavily. For a gym that claims to promote health and wellness, allowing mold to grow in such a critical area is beyond unacceptable. It's as if they're inviting illness to fester alongside their crumbling infrastructure. The outdoor pool area, which should be a highlight, is another testament to their neglect. I've attached a photo showing the outdoor pool area, where the pole furniture--those umbrella stands and chairs meant to provide shade and comfort--hasn't even been set up. We're talking about a gym in San Antonio, where we get 90° days as early as February! Spring Break came and went, and now it's April, and they still haven't set up the pool chairs. The photo shows stacks of chairs just sitting there, unused, while the concrete deck bakes in the sun. Members are left to fend for themselves with place to tan or proper seating, which is unacceptable for a gym that charges such a premium. It's as if they don't care about our comfort or the fact that we're paying for a resort-like experience. Even the parking lot is a mess, reflecting the same level of neglect that permeates the entire facility. I've attached a photo showing the parking lot covered in litter--paper, wrappers, and other debris scattered across the pavement, with oil stains adding to the grime. It's the first thing you see when you arrive, and it sets the tone for the entire experience. If they can't even be bothered to keep the parking lot clean, how can we trust them to maintain the gym itself? It's a disgrace, especially for a place that markets itself as a luxury health club. Don't even get me started on the prices. Membership costs a pretty penny, starting at $199 per month and climbing higher for families. For that kind of money, the amenities should be impeccable, but they don't match up. The pool area is okay when it's functional but Add to that the fact that they can't even be bothered to set up the pool furniture in time for the warm season, and it's clear they're cutting corners everywhere. It's like they're taking our money and letting the facility fall apart, piece by piece. Comparing this gym to a dead carcass is, frankly, too kind. A dead carcass was once full of life and vitality, but now it's decaying and neglected, its bones picked clean by vultures of mismanagement. Similarly, this gym might have been great when it first opened, but now it's falling apart, and the management isn't doing anything to revive it. The missing sauna handle, the unassembled pool furniture, the smelly locker rooms, the mold growing on the pipes, and the litter-strewn parking lot--it's all just left to rot, while they keep charging exorbitant membership fees. It's a hollow shell of what it could be, a festering reminder of broken promises, with mold spreading like a disease and litter piling up like carrion around its decaying remains. In conclusion, if you're thinking about joining Lifetime Gym in San Antonio 281, think again. You're better off finding a gym that actually cares about its members, maintains its facilities properly, and doesn't put your health at risk with mold, neglect, and a filthy environment. This place is so overcrowded sometimes you can't find a ace to park, classes are packed, forget getting on a weight machine, saunas you sit shoulder to shoulder, same with whirlpool. Management response---sell more memberships. As a result, the locker rooms are just littered with towels, the new membership doesn't seem to have the same hygiene standards as the older membership. I have been a member for twelve years, probably won't make 13. Have l mentioned memberships dues? You keep getting to pay more for an overcrowded club. I send my kids in with their nanny once a week for swim lessons and today there was some member of faculty named "Matthew" who was giving her a hard time about not having her physical ID, even though a photocopy is literally enough for the police-- she showed them multiple forms of ID on her phone. Mind you, this is the first time they have ever asked for her ID so how could she have know. Matthew made the kiddos miss their swim lessons and they were so sad. I noticed this location had several bad reviews regarding the customer service and I have to 100% disagree. Everyone I encountered was exceptionally nice and very friendly. Hector was very nice at the lifetime café while he made my mocha madness shake. Maximo took my phone call over the phone and said sure I could stop in even though I was from Houston. Jennifer was equally nice and friendly when I walked in. So I am not sure why this location is getting, bad reviews for customer service because I experience great customer service here. This is a great gym. Good equipment. Clean. Fancy. But man their customer service is abhorrent. I was there yesterday and in the mornings most folks have x time to workout before work. No sweat, well get it crushed out and off to start the day. Did my back/bis/cardio day then went down to sit in the steam sauna for a bit. Was in there and left for a minute to pee and came back sat down and steam disappears. Two guys walk around and said "oh we're cleaning it". Wait your cleaning it in the middle of the day when there are 5 people trying to use it? How does that make any sense. Why not clean it in the middle.of the night when no one is present .where you aren't disturbing the morning flow. A few years ago I was a member. It was my absolute favorite gym. They even worked with me when I was going through my cancer journey and had to put my membership on hold a few times. I had no issues. I since moved away and am in town for only 4 days. Hoping I could utilize the services while I am here. (And listen I'm happy to pay a reasonable fee.) However my only choices were pay a one month membership that is way over $200 for 4 days only or pay the day pass each day which would be $50 a day which adds up to $200z It's shady and unnecessary. The main reason I go to Lifetime Fitness is the water exercise classes. As a senior, I can get a good workout without hurting myself. They have the inside pools and outside pool. We are outside until the temperature gets to cool then we have to go inside for the winter, and the pool temperature is kept around 88 degrees, and the room temperature is at 90-91degrees. Many of us have complained about the heat as exercising with heat blowing down on us makes us feel bad. Out of the many excuses I've heard from staff, the bottom line is it is a corporate standard. I am surprised none of us has had a stroke as the elderly are at risk especially with the medications many of us are on. No other indoor pool in town keeps it that hot. I called the corp number last week and was told I would get a call back within 24 hours, that was last Thurs. today is Sunday. It is a very clean club, and I give kudos to the wonderful gal that works so hard in the ladies dressing room and showers Mon-Fri to keep it that way. read more

I've been a member here for 8 months. I overall like the positivity and variety of classes. But I have a lot of recommendations for how they could do better. Let's start with enforcement of the rules. Like people on gym floor with bags that are supposed to be stowed in locker room. They put out this huge sign telling people but people in San Antonio think they're above the rules in general. And the signs refer you to complain to a person who doesn't exist. Let's also talk about the men's locker room. While I know that 50% of men are pigs and they don't care, but how about we clean up the floor in the men's locker room? I sometimes see mud in there, and things that kinda look like mud but you're not sure. Moving to the basketball courts. In my opinion it's a huge mistake having kiddy day care in there and pretty much any other activity that doesn't involve volleyball or basketball. Last week, there was kiddie glitter everywhere and boy are there ever dead spots in the gym floor. Today I saw a huge pile of what looks like ink spilled on gym floor. Finally about those referrals. You'll never get credit for them if the gyms span different franchise owners. Have been a member for years back in CO and once I moved here, I was actually surprised by all the add ons and upgrades that came with this location and outside pool is open 365 days a year for adults (welcome to TX). Their group fitness coaches are incredible. Love Breanne, Sam, Ernest,and Nick. They take cleanliness to a whole new level and it's very very impressive. Also the upgrade to the outside pool is a DREAM. Every time I've visited the cleaning was an on going process at various places. Yes, I did spot a cockroach once in almost a year of nearly daily visits, and it was taken care of immediately. Please, let's not forget where we all live, in a climate where any insect can thrive and I certainly would not consider this location gross or infested by any stretch of imagination. Kid activities and day care is what I can brag about for days. They know my child by name, he is there at most 3-4 times a month during school year. I actually appreciate their effort at enforcing rules and open communication with parents. Life cafe is truly delicious and conveniently has all macros broken down for you! This place literally has everything but a tanning bed! (Which I'm happy about). The cafe is delicious & the girl ALWAYS remembers my nieces order, it's really nice to see people remember the little things, when we don't eat there frequently. The hair stylist Lauren, I absolutely adore and love how she does my hair. The gym itself, is always clean, employees are always nice & the trainers never make you feel like you're inconveniencing them when asking a question or advice. The classes they offer are the perfect workout for when I just don't feel disciplined enough to workout on my own. Stacy & Breanne are my two favorites. I am a member at this club and let me tell you, I never want to leave and I try to make it a priority to go everyday! Each facility or amenity that the club offers to its members is cleaned to perfection, the staff is always friendly and greets you by name when you sign in, the gym is spacious with lots of equipment so you rarely have to ever wait to do an exercise, and the club is the definition of luxury. Membership is not the cheapest option out there, but the money is definitely worth it in the long run. The club offers an indoor and outdoor aquatics center with water slides that is always clean, a spa, massage therapy, saunas for each locker room, basketball courts, pickle-ball, a restaurant, and a high quality gym with available workout classes and recovery therapy options post workout. This location is much different from the one at the rim as far as cleanliness. I went to the pool area to sauna and hottub and had a very interesting experience. Not only was the hottub disgusting with hair and dirt particles floating everywhere, but the facility needs some regulation on the people. There was a man in a white, SEE THROUGH Speedo who would routinely soak in the hottub for a few minutes, then lay on the side literally SPREAD-EAGLE unsolicitedly showing his gooch to anyone who would walk by. I myself was mortified, then I saw there were kids being exposed and it was very disgusting. I always laugh at the rule sign for the pool area, as it says ridiculous things such as "no shaving" because it is clear that someone had to do before it became a rule... well, can we add, no see-through speedos and/or flashing your gooch to the general public? read more

Love this place! All the staff are extremely friendly extremely clean locker rooms great wide variety fitness equipment. I literally saw every single employee wiping down the equipment whether they were management or janitorial staff. Brandon and Several of the ladies always meet us with a big smile in our extremely kind saying hello and goodbye. Coming from a customer service background as well as retire Sheriff from California I am extremely thankful for a incredible club lifetime fitness! My son does the swim club ‍and the instructors are so patient and kind. Member of Lifetime in Colorado and have been in Texas taking care of a family member. Have visited the Lifetime at the Rim (spa) several times and I have to say the employees do not seem happy. There has been a change in management. The gentleman that was greeting people at the front desk ( spa ) I no longer see - there is a dark haired girl that has a really fake greeting and I feel this is the problem the employees are long faced. I believe her name may be Meredith, Monica ? or something to that sort. If you are trying to create a "healthy" environment for the soul - you need to look at the root cause and fix it. read more

I had my first class at Lifetime with the yoga instructor Flandirs. She Is Amazing. I love the peacefulness of the yoga studio there was candles out, low light and very soothing meditative music. She was super helpful she assisted with getting me into correct position for my poses she was not hovering over anyone but also very ready to assist. She has a warm and grounded vibe just like you would want ina yoga instructor and she was very dedicated to the class making sure all of us felt successful. Same day I ran into DPT Joe! I have too many good things to say about my onboarding session! He's so extremely knowledgeable I am going to be learning from him for a Long time. PERFECT amount of motivation and holding you from hurting or burning yourself out! He will work you but he will make it Healthy for you. He pointed me in ALL the right directions I am so confident now in that I will see MAJOR results soon! I'm excited to go in and get my training sessions with him minimum of once a week I want to make it two times a week ASAP. He is the best health and fitness coach I've ever seen. read more

Public service announcement Canceling your membership with lifetime is next to impossible i had to cancel my debit card after i had called probably 10 times sitting on hold for 20 minutes to an hour always telling me either it would be canceled or a manager would be calling me back which neither ever happened now i receive a email from the bank stating i had lost my dispute and lifetime would get to keep the stolen money because recorded phone calls and phone records are not proof in the upside down world we now live in. The bank says the need JUST ONE EMAIL TO PROVE YOU WANT IT CANCELLED NOT A RECORDED CALL NOT PHONE RECORD lifetime is supposed to offer the form to cancel which i never heard about till the bank rep. By far the best place to workout in San Antonio. I have tried almost every type of gym on the north side of SA and I can say with confidence, this is the most well kept and clean gym you can find. The kids club is 100x better than any other gym due to the fact they hire great people. Plus you can keep your kids there for 2 hours at a time. The weight room is only a little crowded at 4-6 pm so any other time is perfect. There are plenty of weights and a ton of squat racks ready to go. There are so many different classes and amenities! I could probably go to this gym for a lifetime. The showers are always clean and it seems like they keep up with maintenance and tile replacement on the regular. Full towel service really helps this place feel like a complete gym (unlike many other places) The hot tub, sauna, and steam room are always great after working out and kept at optimum temperature year round. I would recommend this gym to anyone who really cares about their gym experience. I would say that this gym is for people who have implemented working out/ exercising into their daily routine because if you're going about 5-6 times a week then the price is super worth what you get in return. And let's not forget about the customer service and staff at this location. Always top notch professionals who seem to love working at this gym. read more

Member since 2016, but cancelled today due to shady billing practices. My account was suspended due to pandemic and had no intention on in person visits until it's 100% safer. Got a call reminding me that the suspension was expiring and rather than just getting my request to extend suspension by phone, they add a hoop-- I must log in to do that. Well of course I was late doing it and they were able to bill me full price for two months. Called them today to correct the issue and get my refund for those months were I never attended (as they knew I wouldn't). Rather than do right by the member and refund the mistaken billing they responded that they would not do that because they didn't have to "as the agreement clearly states" that they could because my suspension renewal was late. Penny wise pound foolish. I understand that that this pandemic is hurting your business but stealing money from your loyal members in order to stay open is just bad business. read more

It might work for just a regular gym but if you want any type of classes or expect a variety of classes for you or your kids look elsewhere. When we joined we were told all these stories about classes all the time, well they may have some regular ones but they are constantly the same. The place is essentially run by teenagers who don't seem to have any direction given to them. Nobody seems to know the answer to any question and it's never super clean. They advertise all the wonderful services available and after you sign up for a monthly fee, you'll find that many of the amenities are being rented out to others and you don't have access. Unfortunately I have to adjust my review of this gym... while the staff is great and the facilities are great a recent billing error has shown how hard it can be to get customer service from a large organization. I was literally told to correct the billing error going forward I would have to pay an additional $50 and the previous months over billing would not be reversed. If you can afford this place then it can be fun but if you are concerned about over paying for services I would look elsewhere for a gym. ------------------------------------- State of the art gym with great staff... Don't be intimidated by this gym, the staff is there to help. This place is huge with plenty of equipment and space. Tons of classes and group exercise activities with lots of opportunities for social interaction. They have an indoor and outdoor pool with a water slide on both. Even a cool rock wall which is really fun. One of my favorite things about Life Time is the restaurant. The food is good and you know everything made there is really healthy for you. read more
