Recently went since is closer to my home. This gym has nice equipment and i like that is not as packed as my other gym so is nice to go in the evenings. I don't know if they have water fountain but I havent seen one which I dont like, also no sauna or pool at this location. read more

I loved training at this gym facility! Very modern, clean, spacious, and organized. There is so much equipment here which is well maintained. So many benches, machines, free weights, dumbbells, and cardio equipment. Everything is spread out so you don't feel you're in top of each other. Even the bathroom was fresh and clean. Front desk staff was very helpful. When I told them I was in town for a few days on biz they worked out a nice daily rate deal so I could get in my training without taking a big hit on my credit card. Nice crowd here too. Not a typical meathead group but more everyday middle of the road people more interested in staying fit and healthy. read more

Great place, people are friendly and knowledgeable. They have very good classes, instructors, equipment..including an e-gym circuit training program that's very effective & cool. If you play pickleball, they have a few courts & the morning open pickleball is quite busy! read more

I have been a member of the YMCA since the downtown gym opened. The new Y is nicer, and the classes offered, are good. The only problem is that the instructors run late, do not show and blast the music. The senior class offered on MWF is considered the best by most members. The instructor is great. The reason for this review is to provide feedback to those in charge of the staff. The front desk has youthful people, most of whom greatly lack manners. They are poorly trained and address individuals by their first name, instead of their sir name. They argue with members, which stunned me when I first saw it happen. read more

My favorite gym! Amazing and welcoming staff, clean facilities, and I especially love the group fitness classes.

This is one of the nicer gyms in the area but it's still showing it's age. It's not up to par with most of the ymcas. You'll pay a premium level price for a gym without towel service and less equipment than you might expect The real problem here is the trainers run wild. 1. They rarely wipe down equipment 2. In general they're loud and distracting. 3. They've virtually taken over the extra room but still will kick people off of machines to do their training. Not in a you've just been sitting here way either. They'll tell you equipment is in use that you've just wiped down and no one has been on in 10 minutes type kick you off. 4 They don't even wear masks when their clients wear masks. This is the level of self awareness these folks have. Gold's is a contractual nightmare. They're all the worst stereotypes of a gym but the ymca isn't much better. It might be worth it to pay less and deal with getting your moneys worth. As far as paying more for a better gym there's not really an option read more

This gym is always busy but in a good way. I workout here from time to time with the Thrivewell Cancer Foundation to do Line Dancing and sometimes Cardio Fit and Boundless, if I don't go to Najim YMCA. I like this location because it's close to other places like the Quarry and it has a coffee shop. I like the various local events held here sometimes, like the garden show. The staff are always friendly and go out of the way to help. There's ample parking and the place is clean. read more

Love this gym. The staff is very nice and everyone is kind and friendly. Most people are careful to wipe down the equipment after use and the staff constantly walks around cleaning and making sure that weights are in their place. Consider skipping this one in your search for a feel-good gym. I've been trying to love this gym in my neighborhood for YEARS. Having been vaccinated, I felt comfortable getting back to the gym, having gained weight in the year of quarantine. I stopped attending yoga here due to the ugly competition to get in the studio doors and then the bullying over space inside. But, continued to go for solitary machine and weight workouts and spin classes. Nothing has changed. No sense of community. No camaraderie. My experience today - only four days into my new membership - with a bully on the machines was the end for me. Mean girl vibes. BTW - the staff is cool, but can't make up for the unfriendly and aggressive clientele. read more

This is the most hip and contemporary gym I have yet to see in San Antonio. The Semmes Family must have poured a ton of money into the place. It is state of the art and if I lived a tad bit closer, it would be my gym for life. I strolled in after visiting Grace's next door and looked at what they had for classes. With a jam-packed schedule of yoga, pilates, and Body Pump, this place has its gears in full swing. I spoke with Monica and she was extremely friendly, not to ignore other patrons while speaking with me. She was a natural. The prices are about $80 a month but much cheaper if you are student. You can either use the gym exclusively or city wide. I was sad to go. After seeing the treadmill with a 19 inch flat screen attached to it, I started to cry. I've been going to this gym for about six months now and I love it! I've been a member at other gyms in town and I have to say this is my favorite. I'm not a swimmer, but a pool is the one thing they lack, so if you like to swim for exercise, it might not be your ideal spot. I really love that it is never extremely crowded. Even on it's busier days, there are still plenty of machines. They also offer group classes at just about anytime of the day, so anyone can fit it in their schedule. I've witnessed what looks like a pretty intense morning boot camp, but have only had the pleasure of attending the 9am Saturday Bodyflow class (which is great!). I rarely spot meatheads here. The average age is much older than any other gym I've gone to, which is nice because no one is taking themselves too seriously. A friendly face always greets you at the front, and when you're done sweating it out you can head next door to the cafe for a smoothie, tea, coffee or snack. read more

I like supporting the Y because I grew up going to the Y everyday after school.. So my review will start with this: No basketball court is a big miss for a downtown neighborhood YMCA. The recent expansion brought more "studio" space for workout classes, which is nice... for those who like workout classes. However, I suspect the kids in the surrounding neighborhood would have rather have had a basketball court yeah? The staff is really hit and miss. Generally more misses than hits. Good thing I enjoy working out at the Y up on the Northside on occasion, otherwise I would have taken my $60 a month to a chain long ago. read more

I go to this Y every time I am in San Antonio on business. There are always enough cardio machines during off hours, and the TVs are never tuned to anything horrible (bible channel, dog racing, etc). I can't say I've been to a spin class here, but they do have them. There is also an indoor pool and free, not terrible, coffee. Everything is clean, and the workers are all nice. There is a little cafe in there, which sells juice and sandwiches. The magazine selection is a bit ehhh, but I think the magazines are just left overs from other patrons, so I'm uncomfortable penalizing the gym for their members boring taste. I think the location is moving some place else, so don't go falling in love with St. Mary's YMCA. I'm a little disturbed about where I'll work out during my business trips. read more

This is a gym that combines both form and function. Contemporary and hip, yet easy to maneuver. Located in a former Albertson's grocery store, the space has been finished out to include an awesome gym with plenty of equipment, a nice layout and a rock wall. There are showers and towel service, but this isn't the Ritz. The beauty of this place is that you can go and work out, see lots of people from the neighborhood and go weeks without seeing Spandex (except for the time the Silver Stars tryout training occurred there) There's a coffee shop next door with healthy snacks and drinks and an Internet/Community meeting cafe. At the heart of it all is a certain spirit of camaraderie -- a feeling that everyone is rooting for good fun and fitness -- and a holistic lifestyle. read more

I LOVE Tripoint! I've never been a gym rat, but I do enjoy working out. Tri Point is very impressive and state of the art. I think they challenge Spectrum Rogers Ranch and Lifetime fitness as far as the diversity of activities and group exercise classes, but with a nicer price tag. I also like that they are a nonprofit organization that has invested in our community. The building was previously an albertsons and then was purchased by a church - they have reclaimed this awkward space and turned it into a great example of "near town" living. They offer classes in cycling, body pump, yoga, pilates (both mat & reformer!), zumba, kickboxing and a few classes for seniors as well. If classes aren't your thing - you won't be lacking for either weight & cardio equipment. They only ding I would give TriPoint is that they charge for towel service. But my student membership is such a good deal I don't really mind. read more

This is a great new gym with lots of excellent classes and spankin' new equipment. I'm a regular at both the spin and yoga classes. The instructors are motivating and seem to love teaching their classes. The only downside is that TriPoint only offers one yoga class. They offer a lot of Body Flow classes, which I'm not really a big fan of as they're a bastardized hybrid of yoga, tai chi, and Pilates. read more

So happy I found such a great gym in my new city! The facility is well kept and the staff is phenomenal. There are tons of machines so there never is any waiting around for others to finish up. I highly recommend Zumba with Mo for those who are sick of boooooring cardio machines. His classes are the best! My only "complaint" about the gym is that on Sundays it doesn't open until 1 pm. I prefer to get my workout knocked out in the morning so this a bit of an inconvenience. Regardless, the good here DEFINITELY outweighs the bad! :) read more

I love this gym. Everyone is super nice and very down to earth. They offer a ton of classes and they have always been great. A great variety of cardio machines for cardio lovers. They also gave brand new spin bikes and THE BEST treadmills in town. I have enjoyed working out at this YMCA since it opened. It is always clean and neat with lots of machines available. Plenty of group activities to pick from with excellent trainers. I absolutely love this gym. Staff is friendly and always upbeat. It feels like a community, as you will surely begin to see familiar faces if you have a routine. Gym and locker room is always clean and tidy. Childcare is available if needed, though not sure on the times its open. Lots of machines, I have never had to wait for one. And if you aren't too sure about what to do, staff will walk you through how to use machines when you start. I have taken a few classes and enjoyed them, but not many. However, I personal training and small classes with Josh were AWESOME! He never pushed too hard, his priority was teaching proper form and handling of weights. His workouts varied and continued to challenge even after 7 months with him. Great experiences here, all around. read more

This is a beautifully maintained space with plenty of cardio machines available and lots of great group exercise options available. No pool, but if you need a nice space for a run or a fun spin class, then this is a great option. The staff are also super friendly and the locker rooms are clean and spacious. My only gripe? The personal trainers seem to have a monopoly on the free weight section, making it hard to find a space where I can do abs/arms/stretching after a run. I wish they would schedule their sessions more evenly throughout the day, or perhaps move around some of the machines to make more space and add more free weights. I hate the feeling that, just because I haven't spend hundreds of dollars on a personal trainer in addition to my monthly membership, I somehow should not have access to as much space. Also wish they had longer hours on Sunday. Overall, though, a really friendly and airy gym. read more

Great gym with clean facilities, free towels, nice staff and lots of equipment. For a YMCA it is pretty new and has good equipment and even state of the art things like a long distance and zero-gravity treadmills (the gravity one cost to use it but if you are nursing an injury it is probably worth it). I like that the exercise machines have individual TVs on them with cable, and that there are several big screens in the weight area to watch. They offer lots of free classes like Yoga and it has a child watch area. It doesn't have a pool and I haven't seen any basketball courts or anything but for you basic workout needs it is a great place to go. Also it almost never crowded which is amazing, read more

I love coming to work out at DR Semmes Family YMCA. The facilities are clean and new, and the equipment is state of the art. I love being able to watch your own personal TV while on the elliptical, treadmill, or bike. I enjoy using the Fast Trax system to track my workouts, which is included in the monthly price. The staff is always very friendly and helpful. The only downside is that there is no swimming pool, but that wasn't a deal breaker for me. I know that you do have the option to use other YMCA facilities (with pools) if you pay a little extra each month. read more

I LOVE, this gym. No it doesn't have a pool. But it has childcare! I don't have kids, but I figure it could be useful for moms and dads of little ones. The hours are good, wake up and start your workout at 5:15 or close out the gym til 9. The front desk staff is SUPER friendly and always are there to help. Towels are free, take one- once you get your sweat going, it is nice to have something to wipe your face. I love love love taking classes, my favorites include Body Flow, Yoga with Deborah (you don't need to bring your own mat), and Spin with Greg. Zumba is also fun! Classes run on time which is nice. I enjoy that the treadmills/ellipticals/bikes have tv's with....wait for it...cable! Pop your headphones in the jack and watch your favorite reality tv show or catch up on world news, either way, it's sure to make your cardio workout fly by! There are lockers, and you must BYOL (Bring Your Own Lock). Everything is nice and tidy, and remember, after you use a machine, have the courtesy to wipe it down (that's what the spray bottles are there for). My monthly fee only went up $1 (that's 2% y'all); considering inflation, it's reasonable and worth it! read more

my husband and i just visited this gym on the 2nd of january after recieving a mailing that they were waiving the joining fees for january. my husband used to go to the ymca on st marys back in the day but we found out that it is a totally new location and redone and state of the art gym now that focuses alot on family. it has many kid programs and even 2 hours of free day care. they have a rock climbing wall , spin classes, flat screens on every treadmill and stair masters. it has everything you could ever need to help you get in shap and it christian based, which we love. i plan to start going monday. we have already signed up with our 16 year old daughter. read more
