I have been a member of Life Time since it opened. There have been numerous managers, trainers, etc. The customer service it terrible, schedules are poorly run and the club is dirty. The only way this gym is a win is if you have young kids and can utilize the babysitting. I am being generous giving it one star! read more

When I first joined Life Time I was blown away by the quality of their classes. Their group fitness director, Allan, was very professional and brought in many of the best instructors and their GM, Phil, was very open to feedback and responsive. When Allan left, a new group fitness director took over, Michelle. Many instructors have left as a result of her poor management and treatment and they have been replaced by instructors that are not as good (but are friends with her). It should also be noted that she has kept herself on the schedule despite her low attendance numbers. With other instructors I like looking to leave, I decided to leave as well. It was a hard decision as some of their other clubs in the area are great when I travel for business but as Montvale is my main club I no longer can justify paying a luxury price for sub-par experience. Who wants to pay for a Bugatti and take home Kia? I have expressed my displeasure with the general manager, George, but as him and Michelle are friends ... nothing has been done. Considering the very high membership fees, I am extremely disappointed with the depleting quality of the group fitness department and customer service. If you are looking for a luxury gym in that area I would suggest The Gym on Chestnut Ridge Rd. I am a member there and am completely satisfied with the all around quality of their facility, group fitness, and customer service. read more

Perfect gym with everything you need (well except a change of clothes). It's what all gyms should aspire to match. It's about $150/mo, there's an admin and initiation fee too. Not many people sitting down and on cell phones to slow down your gym routine/access to equipment. Of course one of the fees will be waived "if you join today" like many other sale pitches at other gyms. It's currently too far of a drive for me. If I lived closer, this would be my gym. After misrepresenting themselves in relation to pool usage they charged me $171.38 to cancel my membership. This is what happened. Before joining I specifically asked them about pool usage, afterschool by various teams. They didn't tell me that their in-house teams use the pool almost every day between 3 and 6 or 7 for practice. If they did I WOULD HAVE NEVER JOINED. Saving myself more than $171.38. What a rip-off. Also, my observation is that this club is used mainly by senior citizens, like myself, and families. If you are young and want to meet people of like minds go somewhere else. read more

I've been a member for the last 4 years (only May-September). I have a two children so we join for the pool. I use the kids academy on occasion, frequent a spin class here and there and utilize the cardio/weights equipment. Lifetime is a big corporate gym and it feels that way, from the check in to dealing with any changes in contract. They charge you a fee to add a member, charge you to hold a membership etc. It's not cheap, but you need to know what to expect. If you like taking classes like spin, barre, etc then LT might be perfect. I take issue with their yoga classes being always so hot (no matter if they are non-heated). Some classes require you to get there upwards of 30 mins early to carve out a spot. There are good instructors here. For spin, you can grab a bike on the app up to a week in advance which is nice. The areas where things could be improved: Cleanliness- I never see anyone cleaning the gym floor/machines. Look at the cardio machines- they are filthy. Probably haven't been wiped down in months. It grosses me out. Frequently, I find a few machines that don't work entirely, TV is broken, resistance buttons don't work. I think for the price they charge, the machines should be spotless and better maintained. The family locker rooms are 50/50 in terms of cleanliness. Since I have children, this is basically the only locker room I use on a daily basis in the summer. It should be better maintained during peak times. Pool- I have never once seen them clean the pool during the day. Supposedly they do it at night, but the pool is frequently dirty at opening so that isn't always happening. The pool deck can be littered with garbage from the day before. There needs to be better maintenance outside during the summer. I would appreciate if the pool deck was blown to remove debris, leaves and dirt more frequently. There is also a build up of moss in the shady sections. The lounge chair cushions have been replaced over the last year which was long overdue. Compared to other lifetimes (same level), the outdoor furniture could be updated to correlate with other clubs (lounge areas with own umbrellas, pod chairs, side tables etc). They have added a nice connect4 game outside for the kids to play with this year. Kids Academy- now that my kids are not babies anymore, I feel comfortable leaving them there for short amounts of time (1 hour), but it can get very chaotic in there. The kids go up in the play area and no one can really see what is going on there. My son has reported some not so nice behavior that isn't really seen by the kids working there. At times, they really have their hands full (literally holding two children at the same time). They have a separate area for toddlers and infants that is a little tamer. You need to cancel 30 days in advance no matter what. We will still join for the pool since we live in town, but there is room for improvement. Hopefully that will happen. read more

Wow. Nasty staff and horrible customer service. I was there yesterday and was treated badly. I left my headphones in a locker so I called back this morning and spoke to Joanne. She rudely and dismissively told me she would not look in the locker for my headphones and I have to come in myself and then hung up on me! No thank you. I'm paying $200 a month for membership and I'm about to cancel it. These people have no idea about customer service. read more

A beautiful and extraordinary facility with just about every sport covered. Instruction is state of the art, the staff is always welcoming and helpful, locker rooms and common area are kept meticulously clean. There are two indoor pools and one outdoor pool, with another outdoor pool coming soon. The only problem is that the indoor pools are extremely crowded and it's very difficult to get a lane. Swim team, private lessons, and birthday parties clearly take precedence. If you're a swimmer you're better off heading for the Y. read more

Luxury Centric awesomeness. This is a publicly traded super successful fitness company that has roots in the midwest.. Minnesota specifically. This location has a stellar children's academy as well that's more or less a one stop shop for all your kids extra curricular wants and needs. Blown away! Btw.. Only down point ... The GYM use to be the only "high end" gym in the area. I was a member there as well as many other people. Once Lifetime opened many families signed up. I did also because it offered family membership, outdoor and indoors pool. I have been a member for almost two years or more. Yes, it does offers all the perks, towels, spacious facility, great equipment, etc. However it does gets very busy and I judge a high end gym by it's showers; they are always dirty. I absolutely hate it. At certain hours there are way too many middle school kids pretending to work out or even working out with weights. The price for a single person or divorced like me is outrageous. $169...I wanted to stay because my older kids are under my ex family deal and it is nice to at times workout with my college son. It is not my thing to give 3 star but the showers been dirty all the time bothers me. It really does. read more

This is a nice gym but there isn't really anything special about it its basically a glorified 24 hour fitness for 3x the price. The best thing about this gym is their many olympic weight lifting platforms which I really like because those lifts are a main part of my routine. The sales team is very pushy and they acted like I was supposed to sign up after the free trial which I did not and they seemed to get mad. It also has a very corporate feel to it and I almost felt like I was in a prison and was being watched. Overall if you like all of the above then it's a nice facility if you don't mind spending $150 a month just to get in the door. read more

I've seen the staff attitudes fluctuate. Some of the staff don't have professional behavior instead acting as though they do own it, it's true; while the rest who try to provide customer service shouldn't have to make up for it. They've had such turnover with the management. In the pool area a large proportion of the lifeguards act more like prison guards LOL...really tho, to watch them staring at members around or in the pool and then secretly communicating via earpieces is more reminiscent of an invasive covert operation with little respect for members relaxation and privacy. Need to be advised of their overall general lifeguard duties. It's a pool - not the ocean folks, shouldn't require that your guarding the shores. read more

Caution. Do not join. Been a member before this gym opened. Was promised rate would not go up and it went up over $30 in three years. Tried to cancel membership want to charge me over $300 even though billing doesn't occur for 15 more days. Also, they sold me on fitness testing and could never fit me in when my personal trainer no longer worked there. If you are looking for a quiet gym and a professional staff this is not the place for you. Love my gym, for sure. Whatever form of exercise you enjoy (weight training, cardio, classes, etc.), Lifetime has it all. Pilates reformers, smith machine for your squats, cable crossovers, squat racks, ellipticals, treadmills, stairmasters, you name it. Very clean and towels are always around for members to grab. The only reason I am not giving it 5 stars is because I wish there were separate locker rooms for those members who bring their children. I get a very relaxing and spa-like feeling whenever I walk into the locker room because it smells like lovely eucalyptus from the steam room. However, whenever I hear children screaming or yelling back at their mothers while I'm showering or getting dressed, I am no longer relaxed. Just a suggestion for the future. read more

I was a member of another Lifetime in NJ a few years back and once I moved up here I immediately joined Lifetime of Montvale. By far, the most excellent gym I've ever been to in 10 years of gyms. Very clean, very professional and friendly staff, helpful trainers and the utmost selection of new and maintained, not to mention clean, equipment. Locker rooms, saunas, steam rooms, showers, pools always clean and maintained also fully stocked with large and small towels, toiletries ( q-tips, disposable razors, mouthwash, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, Etc. ) You get what you pay for here. If you like and are happy with 10 dollar a month gyms, this is not the place for you. If you like amenities and the nicer things in life, this is your place. So many things I haven't even mentioned that are phenomenal here. I work for a nearby corporation and most of the execs come here and truly enjoy it. For the reviews below that depict 1 star, these are the people that try to cheat into getting a few week membership with no intention of joining. THIS IS BECAUSE when you pay this much for a gym, they know members don't want random non-members walking around clogging up equipment especially people that have no respect for equipment. They are very very lenient with members arriving with guests, but if you have NO intention of joining this gym, don't expect to be treated like a member. Gyms are also a business, remember that. I love lifetime fitness especially the one down by me in my laurel nj. I can say however that this lifetime fitness in montvale did nothing for me in regards to this gym. I felt as if the gym was not well maintained dirty and had a large amount of broken equipment. All and all I do love this gym and even with these problems I can promise you will never find a better gym then lifetime fitness. I have lowered my rating because Lifetime made it extremely difficult and inconvenient to stop payments to them after we moved away. This inexplicable policy would make me never recommend them to friends. I've been a member for about a month and the Montvale Gym has met all of our expectations and more. It's not perfect, there have been some problems with stocking towels and free water at the pool, but it's pretty amazing that both are available to begin with. My husband and I had a directed work out with a personal trainer which was professional, beneficial to us, and showed off the great gym. We are so happy with the equipment available and it's never been crowded. The locker rooms are like spas I've visited and boast large saunas and well maintained steamrooms. We also enjoy their indoor or outdoor hot tubs. The pool in summer has huge water slides and a nicely designed kids pool. I enjoy the cafe offerings, though the outdoor cafe could be expanded. The kids club is best for kids under 7 in our summer experience, but may be better for our 7+ kids in the Fall programming. It's expensive but worth the childcare if used IMO. read more

Severe disappointment that Life Time has decided to eliminate lifeguards from opening time (4AM) until 9AM. We pay the same price, why is our safety less important? This morning between 6 and 7AM, every lane in the indoor pools were taken, and there were 9 people in the 6 lanes outside. More times than not in the past 10 days since this program started, there have been no towels in the racks, the signs say pool closed or spa closed, equipment is not available, and no one is around checking that the pool deck is safe. I personally have not seen one person testing the water. Rather than doing the correct thing as a luxurious club, as they like to think they are, they would rather not pay the lifeguard for this time. It should not be a decision based on economics, but on integrity and safety of ALL people using the facilities. read more

We have been members for few years now with a year break. Honestly if not for my busy schedule I wouldn't leave. We love this place! We had many hiccups, but I know that there is no other place like lifetime. I am able to watch my kids from upstairs when they take swim classes (my daughter was in swim team with amazing coach who unfortunately left :[ but I had told the new one is great too-cant tell because haven't met him yet. I also had fun watching my kids in kids academy (they were 6&9 before i put my membership on hold). i agree with some comments-especially the on about cold family room-that should be changed asap if it's not yet. also no one should be allowed to go thru that room (including coaches/instructors and other members without children!). now about child care, my younger was a preschooler when we first joined, we moved there from other gym... and to be honest-he had so much fun, stuff was extremely helpful, playful and so friendly! my daughter loved the gymnastic classes, she moved from professional team and she said she had learn way more in lifetime in a small place than in her club! anyway I'm looking froward September to rejoin again! In theory this is great. It has everything. I've used the pool in the summer, the spa for a massage, sauna, etc. However, I never actually do any classes (not a class gal), don't have kids so don't utilize any of those programs, so for just a single 20 something this is a little pricey. Kids club needs better supervision, I didn't feel comfortable leaving my son there. Staff is very dissingaged and unattentive, especially to the slide area. I would hire more experienced staff with people skills. Some of them plain rude and others are simply disconnected. The shower areas are still very slippery despite multiple attempts to bring up to the managment's attention. The main area is very good! read more

A little pricy but still a very good gym. I would like to see more early morning class offerings (i.e. 6am Barre classes on Mondays) vs. all the TEAM classes which are an additional fee. One pet peeve I have is the parking. Employee should not be allowed to park in the front. This area should be reserved for members who pay. Employees should be required to park in the back or in the indoor garage. I frequently see employees parking in areas which should be reserved for members. I would also like to see more option for pre-teens. i.e. 11 years olds are bored in the kids academy. However, it is great for the youngers ones. read more

I just joined this gym. Really good facility, nice staff. I like the pool and hot tub, Zumba class, rock climbing wall. The price is worthy.

We joined 6 months ago and the place was terrific; however they are expensive and 2 months ago they wanted to raise each member of my family another 25% because I alone use another Lifetime Gym at location by work. I called main office, sales people, other location's GM and no one said they could help. The best they could do was let my kids come off membership for me to be able to afford go to both Gyms. We terminated our memberships. The fine print says they can change rates anytime they want. Rates are different at each location and if you use multiple locations and alternate too much, they will ask you for more money. This is not what they promised when I joined read more

Until my kids, now 10 and 8, turn 12 I pay 90 a month EACH for them in addition to us parents. The classes are geared towards kids 6 and under so this model they have for this center of "we're going to have classes that are 'great' for kids so that's why we don't offer a family plan" has been a disappointment to say the least. My kids would just as well sit in a 20x20 room at NY sports or name your other gym. Furthermore, 'Family Swim' is from 11-3pm on Monday and Wednesday. What???!!! That's when kids are in school- this is how they force you into swim lessons when your kids already know how to swim. Lastly, I hear about all the other clubs with tennis courts and rock walls (which a 10 and 8 yr old would like), but the people that pitched us said that they found that the wall wasn't used- I challenge that; lifetime montvale didn't want to hire any staff to man the wall. The breakfast wraps in The Café are phenomenal. The treadmills are smooth as silk. It's becoming my second home and I feel great. If you're worried about spending a little coin, go to 24 hr fitness instead. This place isn't for the penny pinching losers, who tried to scam a free 2 weeks, and gave bad reviews below. I put my membership on hold because we were not using it as much as I had hoped. I went to end the membership ( which was still on hold) and they said I needed to reactivate my membership and pay full price for 15 days before terminating it -- which is hundreds of dollars. If I had not had to physically come into the gym to end my membership, this would not have occurred because apparently I was no longer able to extend my membership hold. This review is for Lifetime Spa. I will start out saying that I don't typically write reviews and I absolutely NEVER write negative reviews. I have been a member of lifetime since the opening and I left for a few years and came back. The facilities are great and I have had zero complaints, only good experiences. Today was the first day I utilized the spa and it was a very mixed experience. If I could rate my massage therapist Lydia 10 stars, I would. She was absolutely wonderful and very skilled, and I have had many, many massages over the years. What was horrible was the experience outside of the actual massage. I called at 11:40 today and booked a very last minute massage for today at 12:00. I was happy that there was an opening. When I came to the desk to check in the woman was tending to someone else in front of me while I stood there waiting. She didn't acknowledge me for a couple of minutes however another woman came in after me and the woman behind the desk looked up at her and (since it was 11:58 at this point) said to her that she knows she has a 12:00 appointment so she will bring her back. I said "I have an appointment also." Then she finally looked up at me and said "ok you can come back too." Meanwhile she also told both of us that the building was testing a fire alarm and if it goes off we shouldn't worry there is no problem. She said she tried to tell "them" to wait until 1 or 1:15 to test. I am not sure why the person who took my appointment didn't mention this because it's certainly not something that I or probably most people would want to experience after a massage. I DEFINITELY wouldn't have come in today but instead I would have scheduled for another time. Yet I was already there so I decided to hope for the best. Again, the massage was fantastic. But approximately 2 minutes after it ended the fire alarm rang for several minutes. Needless to say that was not a way to end my spa experience. I went to the desk and the same woman was there and she was very apologetic as was Lydia and I told them both it's not their fault but that shouldn't have been done in that way. I understand the importance of having a working fire alarm system however the spa should not take massage appointments if that is being done. So I finally went to check out and the whole and only reason why I finally decided to visit LifeSpa after all these years is because I was told in May that I had $100 LT bucks in my account to use that would expire in June. Someone from lifetime called me and told me this. I mentioned this upon calling in and when I was checking in. Upon checking out the same woman who checked me in said that I only have $75 bucks. I said "No I have $100." This went back and forth for a while and then another employee came over and said the same thing and even showed me my account with lifetime bucks that I have never used that expired and apparently cannot be reinstated because it expired on 5/24/19. I said that I was told by another lifetime employee that I have $100 and it was literally a back and forth conversation like "no you only have $75." They both told me that they can't do anything about it because of "what's in the system." Finally I began to get quite irritated with their attitudes and unwillingness to rectify this for me as if I was in the wrong - even though I was not. Eventually the second woman who came over to show me how it's impossible to reinstate expired LT bucks finally said she will now reinstate them but semi-lectured me saying that for future reference I need to make sure I use them when they are active. I have never used LT bucks and have certainly never tried to use expired bucks. And a LT employee called me in mid-May to tell me that I now have 30 days to use $100 bucks. I was well within the 30 day window. The attitude of the woman who finally decided to reinstate the measly $25 bucks for a long time member was absolutely unacceptable. It's almost as if she was personally paying me the $25 LT bucks. I was quite shocked at her attitude towards me and the original woman was not much more pleasant. Overall, this was quite a disappointment for me to have an alarm go off right after my wonderful massage and then to deal with these two women. I hope they up their customer service skills in a massive way because had I not had this experience with these two women I would have become a regular new client for Lydia. read more

Here's why I like Liftetime as a single senior: 1)The pool --- After looking everywhere for a pool to start swimming regularly, I thought I struck stuck gold when I saw the beautiful pools at Life Time. Best of all are the hours. Yes, it's hard to get a lane when the swim teams meet after school, but the pool is open late and never crowded on week-ends. And in the summer, it feels like a resort. And I love the whirlpool, steam room, sauna and showers, which are well equipped with everything you need. 2) The general vibe -- Yes, Life Time is more expensive than other clubs, but the facilities are fantastic, the exercise room is the size of a football field, the dance and exercise studios are spacious, and the cafe is great. Unlike another area upscale club that actually sells jewelry and expensive exercise gadgets in the lobby, Life Time has a more friendly, family vibe. See if your health insurance has any benefits to help with the cost. As far as cleanliness, the problem is not so much with the staff as with some of the inconsiderate members who have never learned manners and don't pick up after themselves.
