Just another shady gym with dishonest cancellation policies and tactics. I was moving and wanted to cancel my membership. No hard feelings, just moving. After trying to do so in person, I was told I need send a letter in writing. Thankfully they accepted email instead. They confirmed my cancellation. I hear nothing at all for almost a year. Then I get a notification that I have a collection added to credit report- a collection for $400+. My credit score is over 800, and watch things pretty closely... was very surprised to see this. I call the collector and they say it's from the gym. They said the gym can retract the collection if it is a mistake. I reach out to "ABC Fitness" and they tell me that "there is nothing they can do because it is already with collections and I need to speak to them." Literally on the same exact email thread where they confirm my cancellation. If you like getting random collections without notice added to your credit report, go to Powerhouse in Saddle Brook! Owners of Powerhouse- don't be like every other dishonest gym. I understand mistakes are made in small businesses. Please do the right thing and fix this. read more

Where do I start, this gym is what I and the vast majority of members here at PowerHouse think of as the perfect gym. It started with the location, located on a nice quiet road, right off the highway and plenty of parking. The first paragraph has to contain the most important part- The Equipment! Try to find an equal ANYWHERE...you wont! Idk, how they did it but this place literally has the most advanced machines and equipment available. You wont find anything like it anywhere. Does your gym only have one or two leg presses? This gym has 5! Yeah, 5 leg presses! Every body part has a plethora of machines for you to choose from and you know what that means....results! You can switch machines every workout to keep your body guessing. Only gym I know of that offers this variety. Whether you are new to fitness and exercise, an athlete or competitor, the energy and knowledge that you get just from being here is unrivaled anywhere in this area. Also, where else do you have a gym owner(Erik) and staff who understand what you are striving for and they WILL get you there, and even further, while at the same time having fun doing it. This place has TRAINERS! You want find that meat market atmosphere, bothering everyone until they finally purchase a training package. They dont haunt you here...at all. Its so laid back that way where you never feel uncomfortable or pressured into packages. The classes are intense for every level athlete, and you will love the diverse workout combinations. The hot yoga with Christy May is hands down the best Yoga instructor my wife and I have ever had the pleasure to train with. The Yoga room is beautiful. The gym itself is immaculate. Powerhouse is what you want in a gym. It's packed with great machines, it's a strong space with nothing frilly, and is very clean. You can tell staff takes care of the gym and members respect it. The only thing that I can complain about this gym is that there is no Sauna but that's only because I have been spoiled by other gyms that have all the bells and whistles. However, lack of sauna does not hinder my work out. I get in and get the job done. I like mornings where there aren't a lot of people and I can say that the gym may be a little small but it has not put a damper on my routine or has affected me in any way either. I can imagine the gym seeming overwhelmingly small when it's packed during certain times of the day, but that's expected in any good gym. You just have to be aware of the high traffic times and avoid them, unless you like being in the crowd and waiting for machines. read more

Ok, so I checked out powerhouse in south Hackensack. I consider myself advanced when it comes to weight training and fitness. I've competed for many years Here is the good about powerhouse in southhackensack: clean. Great equipment. Free 3 day pass. Dumb bells go up to 150 lbs Here's the bad. No staff members to show you around the gym. The 19yr old girl that makes shakes did the best she could. Although very nice, she couldn't answer any questions . I'm of the opinion that you should have some kind of manager or owner that can answer questions and show possible new members around even on a Sunday . Especially at the beginning of the new year , which is when people wanna join gyms . Since I'm an advanced lifter I tend to train heavy and have a habit of dropping heavy dumb bells. Which is the usual for heavy lifters. Not ten min into my work out another 19 year old comes and asks me to stop "slamming " weights. I understand these gyms wanna cater to all demographics but they leave the serious lifter out in the cold . Good gym if you're a beginner or moderate trainer. As a few others have mentioned- the contract sucks and I regret ever signing up. I signed up thinking I can bring my kids and get a work out in but quickly realized after 3 visits that bringing my kids back there was a dumb idea (but that's a whole other story). I waited for my contract to be up to cancel and when I tried to cancel I was hit with having to pay for 2 more months! I expected another months payment- but 2 is ridiculous. When I signed up I specifically asked about this because of all the bad things I heard, I was told it was 30 days. But when I chose to take a 18 month contact she never explained that the cancellation noticed doubled (and also my fault for taking her word and not reading the contract before I signed). I will say the staff has been friendly every time I had to interact with them but their policies need readjusting because clearly it's giving them a bad name. read more

Came here for the first time to try out hot Pilates (which was amazing!!) and I was impressed from the start. The gym is very big, open, and cool. Not icky and humid at all. Plenty of machines and weights to strike up your workout. Clean, beautiful, big bathrooms that helped add to the experience. I'm definitely going back! read more

Gyms are for the most part gyms. Sometimes they are amazing sometimes they suck. The crowd is pretty spread out. Sometimes i go and there is a mid range crowd from late twentys to early forties just being happy to be at the gym and alive.. After coming here for a good amount of time this place has come to be honestly one of the better gyms ive gone too including all of the huge chain gyms. Love this gym. Everyone is family. They have cleaning lady who is there all day constantly cleaning and making sure everything is sanitary. The staff is super friendly and treats you like family. The trainers are incredible. I literally end up laughing my entire training session. There is always new equipment and it's all super easy to use. The owner Erik is a great guy. I love this gym, not sure what those bad reviews are (probably people who aren't fitness enthusiasts and always looking for something free.) The classes are phenomenal! The instructors and trainers are educated (you don't find that anywhere). They have the experience and worked with top athletes from all around the world that compete! The hot yoga they offer is absolutely amazing!!!! For the price of the membership, it pays for itself! The equipment and gym are new! It doesn't get better than that! I hate old crummy machines! This gym is awesome really. It's clean and they make sure that their machines are in good working condition. They even make sure that the pads on the machines are replaced when they become cracked and worn. My issues are the temperature and the fact that they were closed on New Year's day. In the summer it can be hot & stuffy and cold when the temperature drops. I noticed that it was 76° + in the hotter months, and just recently 66°. Thought it was freezing going in, once I started working out it was comfortable. What I can say is that they really do try to address any problems brought to them. Eric really cares about his facility. He asked both my friend and me about our opinions and how his gym compared to others we had been members of in the past. I'm not really sure why they wouldn't be open on New Year's as what you do on January 1 sets a precedent for the rest of the year, in my opinion. I contacted other gyms in the area and they were all open. I didn't want to pay those other gyms $10-$15 for the day so I just didn't work out...ugh...no excuse as many people workout without a gym, but it's the principle really. Horrible experience most of the bicycles don't work over pack they scam your account by making your payment or process late so there collection company can charge you an extra 30 dollars the first desk receptionist just walk around in tight clothes and attitude the atmosphere isn't even welcoming you have to pay separate for each class to use the boxing bag it's like a extra 40 bucks read more

They don't even deserve a star. First and foremost it's ALWAYS something broken here. For a gym that charges an annual $50 for new equipment, I've never seen a new anything in this place. Most machines are wobbly & unsafe or give no type of direction. There is never paper towel in the dispensers, let alone any dispenser, what's the point of empty dispensers ? Not only is this gym terrible but they're policy is absurd. I've been waiting for a full year to go past before I canceled my membership . But to my surprise even after you membership is over you have to pay an addition 2 months. HOW SWAY !? & I've yet to view this so called contract they said I signed. The employees are not even friendly, only the curly hair lady at night & Koolay in the morning. Rich is so rude & obnoxious it's actually sad. Love this gym, never had an issue with any of their staff and my daughter loved the childcare room. I use to come here for the Serious FiT classes. All instructors were good and had their own way of running their classes. I never had to wait for any of the cardio machines and enjoyed the women's only weight little room. The reason for the 3 stars is their contract. I was never in a contract, I always paid the higher membership fee to pay for the month or paid in full for a 3 month membership to not be in a contract (this is for SeriousFiT). Apparently, this is no longer an option and you must sign a contract, yearly or month to month which I'm not comfortable with since this seems to be the main issue at this gym. Sad to say, I won't be back anymore since I'm scare to be in a contract with them. read more

As others have stated, the contract and employees are very sneaky. I'm moving and wanted to cancel my membership before they took out the annual "equipment fee." I called months in advanced and was assured that it was no problem. Well, when I go to cancel I'm told I have to pay that, and for two months I'm not even living in the state. The equipment is broken a lot of the time, especially elliptical machines that are wobbly or missing pieces on the handles. Wipes and paper towels are never in their dispensers, which means machines never get cleaned. It's really regrettable they treat their loyal members this way after over two years of business. The only redeeming quality is that it's very affordable, but I'd rather pay a few extra bucks a month and be a valued customer. read more

This is my gym and I love it. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by the friendly staff. This gym offers great classes with the best instructors. The Yoga instructor Jennifer is so friendly and has such a positive aura. I love taking her Yoga class. Another great class that I love is the body blast. The instructor is great. She really makes us work hard. I recall her name but she's good. The weight room is always clean and the gym equipment is up to date. I highly recommend this gym. read more

This gym is clean, neat and full of great equipment. In fact all of the benches and equipment were re-upholstered recently. They have plenty of weights for everyone and the room to use them. The staff is always friendly and Rich is one of the nicest people I've met there. Even the members are polite and courteous. The other reviews are utter BS. I have been a member of several gyms and I have to say this is the best out of all of them. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Even during the busy hours, its not hard to find a cardio machine to work on. Its always clean, and there is a separate women-only workout section that's a great alternative. They have tons of machines, a workout theater, spin room and an all-purpose room. They have a number of classes and are also included in your gym membership (Although I've never utilized this). This is my favorite gym of all times.!! 24/7 except on Friday sat and Sunday which closes at 6. The classes are fun and also the place is really clean. There are cleaning materials where you can go clean the machine after you sweat. Also, there is a children center for the moms or the dads. The workers are really friendly and want to help answering all the questions that you have. ALSO, TIP THEY ARE HAVING A PROMOTION SALE ATM FOR THE NEW YEAR 2014, 20 a month and 2 months for free, free lesson with physical trainer and this is for a full 1 year! All the equipment you would ever need is there, and although its used its all very functional and most importantly clean. A great, great gym. The staff is friendly and keep the place clean and in order. There's a great variety of different equipment. Multiple squat racks, multiple smith presses, plenty of benches, pull up and dip stations, lots of different classes that come with the membership, and the price is great. It's 24 hours Monday through Thursday, then they close at 11pm on Friday night and are open from 6am-6pm on Saturdays and Sundays. Although I would like weekend hours to run a little later (sometimes I have to work until 5pm on weekends and that doesn't give me enough time for a full workout) I can't really complain. Just joined 3 days ago. So it might be a little early for a five star review. So far I'm impressed. Everybody knew how to work out when I was there. By that I mean they have proper gym etiquette. Everybody retracted their weights. The dumbbell racks were in order. They even had somebody straightening out the weight trees. Making sure the weights were in the right place. Awesome to see. Just canceled my membership at the worst gym in the area LA fitness. At LA fitness absolutely zero gym etiquette. The dumbbell area look like somebody placed a bomb in it. Not one dumbbell in the right place. So seeing proper gym etiquette is awesome. The selection of machines is great. Especially leg equipment. When you go to see a gym for free workout. You have to go on leg day. To really see how the gym stacks up. Tons of cardio equipment. Tons of parking. Which was a problem at LA fitness in Secaucus. Another great thing is the music selection. All metal and rock. Which is great for aggressive weight training. Haven't tried classes or the juice bar. read more

Dirty, over-crowded place. Machines are always broken and they charge you an extra fee every year (aside from the membership monthly fee) that is supposed to be for new machinery. I only had the membership because I liked the spin class, but most of the machines are broken! Beware of the contract!
