I have been a family member before completion of this facility. Management changes on a whim. They gift each member a complementary personal fitness training on their birthday. The catch is. The trainer is not paid got the session so... it's messy....the trainer looks at themselves in the mirror and keeps count on rep...plain old stupid and sloppy. Shameful that there is no attempt ever for future sessions. The only one that followed through had me for 2 years outside of LT LT does not offer quality personal training for $110 for 55min. This is a review of the swim lessons. It's garbage. These are not lessons. I put my kid in a beginner class to learn strokes and the teacher has four kids in a 4 meter fenced off area just running drills back and forth. Except she hasn't shown them how to do the strokes, so the ones who know it are doing fine and the ones who don't are doggy paddling their way through "freestyle", "breaststroke" and "backstroke" back and forth. Do we really pay for THIS? Garbage. Don't get lessons here if you actually want your child to learn to swim. It makes me so angry that I am *this close* to canceling my membership. read more

This isn't a gym folks, it's a resort! Plenty to keep the kids engaged and busy while the adults get a work out in. We are diamond members from opening day, and it's been very consistent. Free swim lessons, up to 3 hours in the kids academy, and indoor/ outdoor swimming pools for any type of weather which is a must for boys on a rainy or snowy day. Now that my kids are getting older, we would like to see more programs for tweens who are not quite ready to leave the academy, but not old enough to join the adults upstairs. And the one that can go upstairs, I would like to see more inclusive programs for the young ones such as yoga, etc. Other than that, this is our oasis only minutes from home. So convenient we can do sauna and steam late night, every night! We love the hours as we tend to be night owls. Everything is clean, except over the years we have noticed more hair in the showers and steam room, but the staff and trainers are attentive and helpful when you lock yourself out of your locker. The yoga classes that are included are very well done, Renee will get you into shape in no time at all. Parking is easy with the addition of a parking garage for peak times. Very social atmosphere, lots of interesting events throughout the year, and the cafe has amazing food and smoothies. Great gym! My family and I moved to Montvale 8 years ago from Alpharetta, GA. We belonged to Lifetime there as well. We were excited to see Lifetime open in our own town in NJ. This Lifetime doesn't have the indoor Mountain climbing, but it is still just as good as the ones in GA. The reps at the front desk are always friendly as well as the trainers and the café folk. I get to walk to my favorite all-time gym so what's there not to like. However, there could be some improvements I'd like to see: 1. More guest passes. And more flexibility in using them much like Planet Fitness etc. which is waay less expensive. 2. Should be open 24 hours a day like the ones in GA were. 3. A little more attention to the locker room as far as cleaning, towels, showers etc. It's not bad, but sometimes it's less than can be expected at a gym of this caliber and price point. 4. More adult theme evening gatherings like we were told when we first joined. 5. The Lifetime Bucks program is less than desirable. Need to improve this. 6. Have one lost and found. If you lose something, it could be in several different holding places. 7. Open up more Lifetime's nearby as this one is far too crowded these days! read more

Fantastic Gym !!! Ton of machines , swimming, sauna, jacuzzi, indoor outdoor pool. Ton of different programs. Yoga , cycling, meditation yoga and many more . Very convenient with many other locations if you join one place you can go for free all other lifetime gyms . I get bored very fast and this is the only gym I actually stayed and come almost every day . Clean professional. Ton of parking outdoor and garage . Great for kids of any age and it's free . Classes 10 stars- I have taken classes taught by Jane Anne, Elizabeth, Michelle, Vas, and Lauren. They're challenging but aren't pushy. Everyone has a completely different vibe that's appropriate for the class being taught, and I love that. They're the reason I keep coming back, and I'm excited to take some other kinds of classes I previously would have been intimidated by from other instructors. I feel stronger and more confident only having gone to their classes for a couple months, and they have my utmost respect and gratitude. That being said... Saunas really need work. For the amount of $$ you are charged monthly, it would be nice to see these cleaned a bit better, with greater attention given to the steam sauna. I have had to remove peoples' towels and even clothing from the steam sauna. The floors and walls need some love in there too. I am disappointed by the etiquette in the dry sauna - women who are FULLY clothed with SNEAKERS and phones on inside the tiny room completely ruin the experience. Not to mention, it's incredibly unhygienic to be sweating and breathing that air in a small space (come on! You step on crap outside!). I'm wondering if there's any chance the employees can at the least create a sign to deter this from happening...this is my first experience in a sauna in which people keep all their clothing and shoes on. Front desk staff is friendly always, I don't understand the reviews on here about staff pretension. However, some employees upstairs have been a bit clueless when I've asked about classes at two separate times, of which 2 different gentlemen had zero idea about the content and difficulty levels. I was brand new to the gym when I asked, and the lack of knowledge was unwelcoming and heightened my unease about joining them since I knew so little. Instead of bringing me to an instructor who could fill me in and make me feel comfortable, they just shrugged and said sorry. That's super unacceptable behavior. I only offer some critique because I used to work in this industry in sales and management years ago, and every employee was required to speak on classes fluently. I ultimately skipped out on the classes I asked about until I got the courage to actually go the following week. As a newbie, taking a new class is very scary, and simply asking about any sort of insight on the class structure and style could have been a way to hook me in and get me amped up to attend. Horrible customer service. They just trick you to become a member after taking your credit card information, no one cares about your concerns and you are on your own. After my son and I joined the Life Time a few months ago, they never mailed my membership card. I have made several phone calls and left messages; as of today, no one has returned my phone calls. I joined the Life Time back in April, it's the end of July now and I still don't have the membership card. They are charging my card $260 a month and I still do not have a membership card. The only reason I am still a member is because of my son. As soon as he goes back to college, I will terminate my membership with them. Shame on you Life Time! read more

Hello . I join this pool 2 years ago . My two toddlers are really love indoors and outdoors pool there . But I have very sad feelings about this place Cons: 1. The kids daycare is the worst I ever see!!!!!!!!! Please do something about this . They allow sick kids in ? . Coughing , sneezing and boogers are everywhere. I saw dried saliva and dirty fingerprints on most of the toys !!!!!! It is disgusting. Sanitizing and clean area should be priority in the place like this . I worked in daycare and we at least twice a week clean every toy. Every time we brought our kids there to the play and we end up with sick kids . 2. The staff in daycare it also some story to tell you guys . Never bring you child there between 9 am and 12 pm because your child can get lost there . I can see the staff are so frustrate with this amount of kids there . The area there is separate for infants and toddlers and I think 4+ age and it is great idea . But the staff cannot pay attention to anything what happens there . I saw with my eyes like two kids fight for the toys and teacher just screamed on them even not to try to come down them to try to fix the situation . Plus almost all the time they hold on to the little infant . On reception desk some kids alway sit there. It is never quite there . When you want to leave with your kid you have to scan your card to check out .Most of the time the receptionist even not look if it is right kid(one time she forgot to check out my kid and I think next day or the same day she said that my baby was checked in still ) Pros: 1. The pool area is really good and staff there is really nice to you . I think Judy is in charge there and she always talk to all of the kids.My niece swallow a lot of water and start coughing a lot . Judy and one of the lifeguard were right next to us to help .Lifeguards always pay attention to the kids . There is two pools and one of them has shallow part where you can play with your babies and other for lap swimming . The water is always warm . 2. I went to couple classes there and staff is very highly trained there. I was happy about every class I went to . I have very mixed feelings about lifetime . It is nice and update place but I pay 360$ for 2 adults and 2 toddlers a month which is crazy . I use only a pool area . If I want to use gym I need alway to find somebody to watch my children because I feel bad for my kids to stay in the daycare like that . I joined Yelp literally just to post this review. The negative reviews I'm seeing here are shockingly unfair and rather reek of untruth. I've been a member for a bit over a year. I use the gym, and I have young kids who use the pool and the kids club. This is a terrific club in all respects, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. The kids club is fantastic. Someone said they don't watch your kids there, they just lock them up? That's ridiculous. You sign your kid up for classes, and the kids club people will 100% take your kids to the classes. If you don't sign them up, your kids will run around in a large and safe climbing/sliding area. Of course there is no one-on-one supervision there, but what do you expect? There are eyes on them, and they are safe. The swimming lessons (something else that another reviewer criticized) are also very solid. Mr. Noah is great - my 4 year old twins love him. He's teaching perfectly to their level - making them unafraid of the water and teaching them how to be more comfortable submerging their heads. Their doggy paddle is coming along. In short, zero complaints in that department. We got double-charged for swim lessons once, but we called the swim club manager and it was instantly sorted out. The gym itself is gorgeous. I'm a power lifter, and I never, ever have to wait for a squat rack - there are plenty of them. Plenty of plates, plenty of machines, plenty of benches, and everything is spic and span. Literally could not ask for more. In short, this is easily the best gym of which I've ever been a member, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. read more

I visited this gym because I am stayed at the Marriott across the street. This is one of the nicest gyms I have ever been too. The weight lifting floor is huge. It was busy when I was there but because there are so many machines and weights I did not have to wait for any exercise I wanted to do. The machines are all in good condition. "You get what you pay for" is normally a phrase used to describe shoddy service at low-end places. In the case of Lifetime Fitness, the opposite rings true. Sure you're paying more than double what a typical gym in a large city would cost, but you're also presumably receiving more than double the services. The place is brand new (opened around November 2013) - the equipment is all new and top notch, including the cardio machines with built in touch screen monitors. The main workout area is cavernous, with tons of space for the aforementioned cardio machines, huge area for free weights and machines, and some open area to work with personal trainers. They also offer daily classes - spin classes, kickboxing, yoga, etc. etc. Most of these are included in the price (except Yoga). There are 3 swimming pools (2 lap pools and a wading pool for kids), as well as 2 large hot tubs. Again, all this is included in the rate. Finally, 2 full length basketball courts rounded out the offerings. Locker rooms felt like a nice hotel bathroom - a far cry from the changing rooms at my old Bally Fitness gym (which looked like something you'd find in a shady European hostel - the type that you get kidnapped in, not the type that you'd go backpacking in). All in all, this gym is fantastic - if you can afford the $150 monthly fee + various sign up fees. The gym felt empty and I'm sure they will continue to have leeway with the sign-up fee at least through the new year. I joined 8 years ago but told them I was having surgery and gave them a doctors note to not start my membership but keep my fee on hold but they charged my account so I had to cancel since I just had the surgery. A month later I tried to rejoin and they increased by joining fee by several dollars even though I had an agreed upon and promised monthly fee. So I cancelled again and unknown to me the sales rep put in my file that I was banned from the club. Fast forward 8 years. I join to use the pool in June.. they accept my membership and charge my account for three months with no issue. Today while I was working out I get a call from membership that they are revoking my membership because in my file it says I cannot join.. three months later. ? This is one screwed up company., did I mention I also work in healthcare? Wonderful company...Not!!!! read more

I've worked out in dozens of clubs around the world over the past 40 yrs, so am not easily impressed. This club is the best chain I've seen yet. Very modern equipment and lots of it, kept clean and working. Indoor and outdoor pools, full court basketball, spa, childcare, about every possible gym machine and device known to mankind, including a few that are almost pointless curiosities. My primary location, Montvale NJ, is more attractive than a lot of destination resorts. If only we could get them to serve cocktails by the outdoors pool this summer. A cpl oddities: 1. this gym leads the world in Texting While Working Out. Look in any direction ... at least 3 ppl camped on on a machine texting away. Cos what good's a workout if you're not up to date on the Kardashians. 2. gun shots going off in the men's locker room every 30 seconds. Bang! Bang!! BANG!!! Either that or it might be wood locker doors being SLAMMED shut onto wood lockers, which guys seem to think is required. read more

When I switch gyms to go to, I typically first ask to see the bathrooms and changing rooms over anything else first. This place is far nicer than any other gym in the area. Equinox or The Gym included. For many people this gym will be far too expensive at around 150 dollars a month for just the basic package, but the details in it are what sets it apart from other gyms in the area. Locker rooms are huge and more than generous with the amount provided, and are easy to lock using your own membership card. You don't have to worry about carrying around a combo lock to this gym. They're finished with stone and marble in the showers which also provide a good amount of pressure in their water. I left NYSC because they reduced their water pressure in their showers. The equipment is all brand new and always seems to be in the right spot. Including the weights. This is a gym for those who like good service and don't mind paying a bit extra for it. read more

As a former Manhattanite and Reebok Sports Club member, I have pretty high standards when it comes to my gym. I searched for 3 months looking for a any type of gym that would come even close to Reebok Sports Club and this is the only one there is in North NJ. Even better, it has a parking garage, which is great in the winter and a outdoor pool for the summer. It has the best of everything and all the people that work there are very nice. This a luxury gym, so expect to pay for it. I paid $230 a month for Reebok Sports Club, so I think $160 is a bargain. read more

Having worked in the city, I was used to Equinox, both the caliber of equipment but moreover the quality of service by the staff and the amenities. The gym floor has plenty of cardio and weight equipment and is well designed. As there are cardio classes, they will at time monopolized certain rows of equipment, which will mean you might not be able to use them, which is annoying. There are no spin bikes on the floor and you would have to take a spin class to gain accesses. I have gone in at off times and used and not been bothered however, they should have at least a few of these performance bikes on the floor verses the upright or recumbent bikes which do not produce the same level of result. The staff I am neutral on, I have not had an experience one way or another - other than the person at the front desk who is welcoming. The locker rooms, at least the men's has something to be desired. Comparing to Equinox it is far short of the mark. Hand towels at the sink are in short supply and hot water for shaving is a luxury - the water is just over warm. The razors are cheap - would cut your face to ribbons and the products are minimal where Equinox had quality shave cream, aftershave, lotion and more. From my perspective when paying over $130 my expectations are higher and I want a clean, comfortable place to work out which also does not push their political point of view by having every fifth TV on Fox news. read more

So much promise... such a disappointment. Life Time Athletic is the place for you if... 1. You want to be misled on "guest passes". They tell you about these pre-sign-up knowing that you're thinking you'll be bringing friends to the pool in the summer. Surprise! The guest passes cannot be used on weekends at all or during the daytime in the summer (4pm+ on weekdays only... why would anybody want to come then???) You'll think you won't have enough guest passes only to realize there is no good reason to use them at all. The guest passes are to help them get you to bring them new members, not as a benefit to you. 2. You want to be sold their currency (FU bucks as I call them) which is useless. You'll end up with extra "bucks" which expire. Expire! Wait what... they offer you money to spend in their shops which expire (and quickly). Want to use those buck in the cafe? Nope. They're pretty much only usable in the salon. DO NOT pay for extra bucks... the whole thing is a scam. Oh... and the bucks you pay for expire too! WHAT? 3. You love ice cold locker rooms. That's right... the locker rooms are kept colder than the rest of the building. That family changing room you can use for your kids? It is the coldest room in the building, and your kids will scream and cry to not go into it after swimming because they hate freezing in there. 4. You're desperate for a scene-less outdoor pool. If you're signing up anytime other than the summer... don't let your imagination run away on you. That outdoor pool has no pizzazz and you won't want to be spending your days there. It's all-cement and over-crowded. You'll have trouble getting a chair (forget several for a family) and the pool is packed. Those slides are operational like 30 minutes a day for a week a year. That food hut is almost never open. There is no alcohol. Oh... and they pause swimming for 20 minutes once an hour so the life guards can hit on each other. 5. You like disgusting saunas. There are a number of fun areas for this one. First, many members think it appropriate to sit in the sauna in street clothes, complete with street shoes. They just know you want to breathe in the hot melting s**t off the bottom of their shoes (and walk on the same ground as them). Life Time does nothing to stop or discourage this. There are people in there in blue jeans. BLUE JEANS?!?! Secondly, if you do get to tour the sauna... take a look between the floor planks. It's a delicious feast of pubic hair and other delicacies down there. 6. You love cheap (insert: shampoo, conditioner, soap, razors, mouthwash, etc.). The buy the worst/cheapest quality stuff. Those razors are designed for blood-letting. 7. You want your kids to be taken care of by... themselves. That "kids club" is a great place to ensure your kids run around unsupervised while the staff stare off into outer space. Art room? Lego room? Gymnastics? Good luck... those are a very rare luxury. Oh and if your kid has to use the bathroom at all they'll page you. Every time an announcement starts you can see every parent visibly shake in fear of hearing their name and having to leave the gym to go all the way back down to the kids club to watch their kid pee for 30 seconds. 8. You cannot wait to waaaay overspend for food in their cafe. 9. You smile at the thought of waiting on equipment. While they have TONS of equipment, they only seem to have one of each of the most important machines (and three of all the useless ones). 10. This is the more the members but... you just cherish the concept of people working out directly in front of the dumb bells. It's not like I've never seen this rudeness before but, it's perfected at life time. I am sure some "don't work out here" paint on the floor would put them over budget. Good luck. This gym is a rip off. I like the equipment and all the people are very nice. But they are they closed off the basketball court for no reason. Every other gym has theres open except lifetime. And there is no explanation behind it. Most people who go here are members for the basektball courts, and they let people pay money to rent out the room for spin classes, ridiculous!! Im at my witts end at this point might just go to impact zone or vision, because adleast there not greedy enough to not let people use the courts! read more

Wow, after reading all of the bashing reviews, I thought I would give my own perspective. I love the place!! Been a member since before it opened! I work in the area, and watched it being built, and I can honestly say it didn't disappoint. The diversity of machines, staff and upkeep are above any other place I have ever been to. While I do understand it comes at a costs, you get what you pay for. Indoor and outdoor pools, multiple saunas with waterfalls, cafe, steam, sauna, towels, etc etc etc. Regarding the comments about the towels on the floor, that is a problem....with society that thinks it's OK to throw them there......:). People need to realize their Mom doesn't work here..... read more

Its very expensive to be a member and if you don't have small children for the the childcare, its not worth it. The childcare and the swimming pools are really nice. Everything else is really not. As other reviews below have stated, they will bill you incorrectly; and the new group fitness manager Michelle is horrendous. I have no idea how she is still on board. I (and others) left the gym because of her. She puts herself on the schedule even though attendance to her classes are low. She does not listen to the members and does not give them what they ask. She walks and talks as she is so mighty. Let me vomit! I couldn't take it anymore. With so many gyms in the area, I don't need them. Ill save my money and go somewhere else. Not a fan of large gyms normally, but traveling in NJ right now. Needed a place to continue my regimen. Unlike other gyms I've been this one has a middle weight standing water bag and a lightweight standing MMA bag. A comfortable place to warmup with forms as well. I'm not a fan of machines personally. My favorite gym! There's nothing that can deliver what Lifetime can in this area. The staff are wonderful, whether it's at the front desk, the LifeSpa, the Kid's Academy or the classes. Though my children are not members, I take them to the spa for haircuts & to get their hair done for events. They are so patient with my girls who don't like getting their hair brushed! If you like spin, Elizabeth Boos & Brian Mahoney's classes are not to be missed! But really, all of the instructors are amazing!! Thank you Lifetime for making me enjoy going to the gym. read more

I have been in the fitness industry for over 10 years and just moved out from NYC to NJ and was looking for my new suburban gym. Because Lifetime does not offer trials and is not your "ordinary club" they want you to come and fully experience it I was told that I had to join and become a member, could do a 2 week trial to try out classes and its flexible.. they want to make sure I have the experience and got to try out classes... when I went to cancel they charged me the full initiation fee plus one month for the 5 visits I tood during my trial period. over $350 for 5 visits and a sleezy salesman named Bernie who had chewing gum hanging out of his mouth while talking to me said there is nothing he can do and that is their policy. It a disgusting experience and I would not recommend anyone join this gym. I feel that I was scammed for my money regardless of my experience, impression or what I was told. Beware and don't fall for the 2 week trail and any other lines "BERNIE" the sleezy salesman from chicago gives you while trying to sell a membership. We have lived in the area for years, but never thought I had the time or could afford a premier club. Another baby boomer stopped by, looking handsome & fit. He's on medicare & his insurance helps pay for Lifetime! I'm not there yet, but... ;) The staff is friendly, the account mgr. Jordan actually meant when he said to stop in for any needs and the place is extremely clean. The place is huge so no wait time even on the weekends.
