I thought this would be an easy kill. I was already perturbed at their sales staff for standing me up on a previous appointment... so when the 'free week' coupon came in the mail, I foresaw my Yelpers revenge, for my mission was to scribe their demise, at their hand. -Day 1- It was a sweltering August Sunday afternoon. A slight breeze blew as I walked across the parking lot towards the reception desk. Every few steps, a wisp of chlorine from the outdoor pool would reach me. The absence of smiles from the faces of each exiting member told me that I was about to be part of something special. The associate at the front desk invited me to peruse the complex in return for my signature. I looked up from my autograph session to behold a large plasma TV serving up music videos. As I walked into the mouth of the beast, one word came to mind... conglomerate. Yes, this was a Herculean aggregation of raw fitness potential. Passing by several vacant mini-meeting rooms, I pondered the sheer number of financial obligations which had been entered into. The men's dressing room left me in awe. I beheld cherry wood lockers and granite countertops. Surely these are materials which doctors and lawyers would afford in their grand country clubs. Oh my, I see a chorus line of fancy chrome plated hair dryers. Good lord, the bathrooms are sealed off. No longer would I have to be subject to the smells and sounds of hunkered patrons working through their 'man-cramps' (aka: stewing chamber pot chili). Their aquatic offering was subdivided into an indoor and an outdoor water park. A 5 lane lap pool, Olympic pool with 2 water slides, 2 jacuzzis and a sauna comprised the indoor kingdom, while a 4 lane lap pool, huge swimming/playing pool with 2 slides and a mushroom constituted the outdoor funfair. Yay! They had the obligatory bleach blonde lifeguard. Schwing! [gyrate hips forward] A misting system provides a cooler climate for heat conscious loungers, and an on-site snack bar offered wrap and salad alternatives to the commonplace fare. The outdoor area was clamoring with harmonies (screaming kids) typical of a public pool. The 2nd floor of the facility is reserved for the rows of workout machines. There are no less than 23 giant video screens built into the walls. OK Lifetime Fitness, you win round one. But there are so many other levels which you can fail at, and six days to do it. ~Swoop Update 07/28/2008: OK, I cant be hating any more. I haven't been back since they did the remodel, however, I was there during it and can say that I wasn't impressed with the changes. My son still takes swimming lessons here, which have been great for him but I have been increasingly uncomfortable coming here since I saw one of the trainers put up a picture on Instagram making fun of a woman working out. Not good. Yesterday my son went to the day camp because his school was closed for RedForEd. We thought it sounded fun and engaging but when I picked him up, he was miserable and on the verge of tears. One of the two activities my son was looking forward to (rock climbing) was skipped due to one kid not wanting to participate. Were there no alternate activities planned? But the most upsetting was my son was bullied and left to play alone a lot of the time. As a parent, I know that kids aren't perfect and never expected that but when I hear the things I heard last night, I was pissed to say the least. I emailed the kids manager today to let her know. I don't expect anything to come of that but hopefully being aware they can make some changes so it doesn't happen again. Needless to say, we won't be doing camp again. He does like the kids academy though. Never had any complaints there. Sadly, we'll probably be canceling our membership soon. I can't justify the cost anymore. ****** *Update 4/30* We canceled our membership. The icing on the cake was when the kids manager, Samantha Schultz, left me a voicemail basically insinuating my son lied about his experience. I was kind of offended by her voicemail and the fact that she not once talked to me in person to get more information. It was just full on justification on her end with a "yeah, so....give me a call" which I did but has gone unreturned. On a positive note, I will say the cancelation process was easy. Just went in and explained I wanted to cancel and why. Boom. Got the email confirmation on my way out the door. Wasn't pressured to stay or anything. I also wasn't asked who the trainer was that left the nastygram and I didn't offer up the name either, but it's concerning that the only response I got was the standard, "Oh, I'm so sorry!" During the 1st group fitness class after the gym opened Brooks the groups fitness manager humiliated a person for asking for lighter weights. I get it everything has to be set up and you can't touch what's not on your mat but giving an older gym customer 15 18 and 20 pound weights is crazy, give the lady the 5 she asked for. When Brooks was questioned about why some had heavier weights she said that's the decision she made. When asked how she Brooks would let members know she said the same thing that's the decision I made. RUDE rude rude the poor woman finished the class but Brooks humiliate her. The trainer who was leading the class was so uncomfortable and she said the woman looked frustrated well yeah but at least the gym client was graceful. read more

We went there for the first time yesterday. We left our 19 month old in the care of the individuals at the day care. When I went to get him, I noticed he was bit. When I asked what happened and why they didn't call me, the girls response was, "I don't know. I didn't see." Does this mean you also did not care for him? Does this mean you did not offer him and ice pack or clean the bite? Does this mean you did not console him after the incident? No one had an answer for me. No one said anything. I felt like I was brushed off. There was no incident reporting. We aren't upset he got bit. Kids are kids and things happen. However, we are beyond disappointed and find it extremely disturbing that they could not tell us what happened and they did not call after the incident. Parents please be aware of this! read more

Been a member at Lifetime for years, however I will be finding alternatives for my daily workouts now. Literally half the gym is "reserved" around the clock for classes. All of the good equipment is reserved for classes. I've been using the same treadmill at the same time daily for over a year. Today I was interrupted and told to move because one of the 3 people a class, in an area of 30 treadmills was embarrassed other people could look at them. I told them that I would be happy to use another machine in the future but I was going to finish my workout. They told me that if I didn't move that they would call the cops and trespass me, so I decided it's time to find another gym. You have a massive area with 10% occupancy at 0500 and no one else can use any of the equipment. If you are a member your only option is to work out on the legacy cardio equipment, weight lifting area only has one of each (very limited selection) machine. Even at 0500 you're waiting for weight lifting equipment because they installed 20 squat racks for classes. If you are going to lifetime for classes, great. But if you just want to workout, find somewhere else! read more

Definitely a family friendly gym with a ton of amenities! The pool feels like we are at a resort and multiple lifeguards all around. We just joined but from the first impression I think our family is going to love it! I have noticed from the past week that the customer service is above and beyond from the warm greetings when you are checked in to the causal pass by in the hallway by staff we are always acknowledged. Also the members are friendly! I have taken a few classes and the members are more than happy to help and answer questions. You can tell the overall vibe in the gym is happy from staff to members. read more

Awesome facility. So clean and well managed. Equipment is typically not too overcrowded at their peak times. I can usually hop on the machine I'm looking for at any given time. I was hesitant at first but you get so much bang for your buck here in terms of value. My favorite is the steam room with eucalyptus. So refreshing! They're constantly stocking towels, cleaning and offering help to their members. This gym is worth it. Trust me. Special shout out to my account manager JJ who kinda has bad breath but was a tremendous help in making my decision incredibly effortless. In fact, a few of their staff members actually recognized me, amongst hundreds of members, for coming in consistently since I signed up... I didn't even realize they were paying attention! ***UPDATE*** After my review I was contacted by a very nice gentelman and agreed to tour for a visit since they were offering a free month of swim lessons for the kids (which I happened to be shopping as well). I went in and toured the beautiful facility with Kam, who did and excellent job, and I signed up and have been going pretty regularly for a little over a month and am really enjoying it. I was dissappointed that the kids swim lesson is only for a half hour (I assumed it would be for an hour) and that I've not seen the water slides in working order a single time that I've been there. But other than that it's a nice place. Even after reading all the horrible reviews, since we're moving to the area and in search of a new gym that offers childcare and swim lessons, I thought, "what the heck, I'll be the judge.. let's give them a go!" ... so I sent an inquiry. I gave them 1 star for the quick response, because Ms. Dakota, the sales rep I presume, had to have had the WORSE customer service that I very well may have EVER encountered!! We won't even be touring that place if that's the type of people that they employ.. good luck with that! read more

I was in town visiting family for a few days so I bought a 7-day guest pass for $50 (kinda steep but it's $20 for a one-day guest pass so if you go three times, it's a better value than the day pass). You do have to check in every time you visit with the guest pass, which can take a few minutes if the front desk is busy. There is a large parking lot so I don't anticipate parking ever is an issue. The gym is really open and has a very large selection of cardio equipment (much of which seems fairly new). The weight area is also decent with a wide variety of weight machines although they could use a larger dumbbell area. It was consistently crowded during my visits. I saw all body types, ages, genders, and ethnic backgrounds so it wasn't intimidating in the way that many upscale gyms can be. I wouldn't hesitate to return when I'm back in town. read more

I called to inquire about signing up for a family membership, requesting they wave the service fee. I am sure a supervisor could have approved if the sales person asked due to the circumstance. Instead of trying to sell us on the value of the gym and easily sign up some new customers, he was rude/dismissive. It didn't make me feel very good. You sign up and pay up the ass for the membership just to be pushed constantly to join classes or personal training for their profit on a daily basis. Good luck finding anything to work out on or with, as equipment is constantly taken and the gym is always full. Also no childcare for infants between 12-4pm. you are shit out of luck. Oh but you will be paying a lot for that too. And let me explain that when you do cancel because you're sick of the pushy sales, crowd, and b.s you will also be charged an extra 30 days. I like Life Time in general, but am very disappointed in this location. I live right up the street and one of my deciding factors was that I would be living close to Life Time Gilbert. Once the season started to change, I became unable to swim in the outdoor lap pool. They say it is heated- at 75 degrees. That's way too cold and my toes go numb. Very recently the indoor pool has been under renovations. Prior to that though, the times I swam in the indoor lap pool it was way too cold as well-probably around 75 degrees. I gave it a few tries and could not tolerate it. So essentially there are no options to swim laps at this location. I drive the 50 minute round trip to the Tempe location when I want to swim laps. I drive past the Gilbert location on my way to Tempe to swim laps, and to be honest, it is very frustrating. Tempe keeps both their indoor pool and outdoor pool set at 80 degrees and is very comfortable for swimming laps, however I am not sure how much longer I can keep this up. It is a bit far from Gilbert and doesn't make much sense to drive all that way. I am looking into membership options at EoS, and may rejoin in the summer months when I can get use out Life Time Gilbert's outdoor pool. 75 degrees is way too cold!! If Life Time Gilbert ran their aquatic facilities like the Tempe location does I would give them 5 stars. I can't because this has been such a disappointment. read more

I joined lifetime about a month ago. The staff is led by Kari who is the General manager and she is amazing. Kari has an open door policy for her members and the staff follows suit. I took my first yoga class and Michael one of the trainers walked me right to the room he explained where my stuff goes where I can find the mat he was very helpful. The instructor Alex was a calming spirit. @ Lifetime it's a one stop shop a cafe, a salon 3 pools 2 full size basketball courts, sauna and a steam and so much more. This has been and continues to be an amazing club. They weren't forcing people to work out during Covid and communicated several times that they would allow anyone who was uncomfortable to pause their dues. I worked out a couple times before they shut down again and they had every other machine closed off in their enormous floor and social distancing was not a problem at all. read more

Big gym, fairly clean with good staff. My one complaint is that when you join a big gym, you are just a number. The new Yoga schedule sucks!! Why build a Yoga studio but limit classes? Why not offer Vinyasa Yoga classes where parents with kids can attend regularly not just once a week. Example: all vinyasa is before 0900 except for the Wednesday class even on the weekend, which means you CANNOT practice a Vinyasa Yoga routine at this studio between 9a-5p 295days/year. Lifetime cafe pricing is exorbitant. That pricing on top of the membership is taking advantage of people. The front desk staff are often tight-assed. Example, I called inquiring about whether my keys had been left in lost and found. I had to ask the person who answered the phone THREE times to go back and check L&F. She tried to push me off to wait until I was able to get to the location the next day. This person had ZERO concern and no sense of urgency for the stress of lost keys. These are KEYS for LIFE, not some inconsequential item. Other management staff have often been extremely inflexible and almost "parental" in their over-attachment to rules to the exclusion of common sense. Members are not children. The reservations system is penal and counterproductive. It doesn't actually serve the purpose for which it is described. To clarify, when there is no waitlist for a class, a person who missed the class should NOT, under any circumstance be penalized with a strike. The described intent of the reservations system is to ensure that no one is unable to take a class if there is space. When a class which has completed did not have a waiting list, then no one who wanted to, was unable to reserve a spot. Hence penalizing someone who missed the class is gratuitous and, to be frank SHITTY. Lifetime management is often shitty to members just because they have the power to do so. I tolerate lifetime because I mostly take the yoga classes and do so almost daily. Administrative and management staff prefer rules over people and common sense. It makes me hate Lifetime. I need my membership for my training and fitness requirements, but I hate having to use it. An instructor pulled a power trip just because she could. I often use weights in classes where they are optional and she knows that I am an instructor as well, and knows that I definitely have the knowledge and experience to govern when I use weights, but this instructor decided to be a bitch and "tell me" I "wasn't allowed" to use weights on the class. She is a Class A BITCH and seemed to obviously jealous of my skill in the discipline. Whatever. I am sick of the arrogance and totally unecessary power trips. I use Lifetime because I need to. I hate the place. Go in with your eyes opened and be certain about how it will add value to your day to day. read more

This Lifetime claims to have a seven day period where if you don't like the club, you can cancel for a full refund. That's not entirely true. After one visit and a terrible experience at the Kids Club area where they allowed bullying to happen, we knew this wasn't the place for our family. On 6/13 (the last day to cancel), my wife called the salesperson who signed her up, Chad, and let him know she wanted to cancel. No further request was made of her, so she presumed it was cancelled. We had been watching for the refund to hit the account and today we noticed ANOTHER CHARGE posted to our account. THEY CHARGED US AGAIN FOR THE CANCELLED MEMBERSHIP! My wife called and spoke with Chad who told her it was not cancelled because she needed to sign a cancellation request (but he never told her that his was required). Chad said he was going to research it and call her back. He called her back and told her that they would not refund the original payment taken, just the most recent one. They had an opportunity to do the ethical thing and chose not to. DON'T TRUST THESE PEOPLE AS FAR AS YOU CAN THROW THEM. Update: after several weeks and multiple calls, they refunded us. read more

We've enjoyed this gym but need to cancel due to several reasons and they require you to VISIT or MAIL a letter. This is absolutely ridiculous in this day in age to require someone to MAIL a letter. Plus if it was convenient to visit, I likely wouldn't be canceling anyways. I guess making this process ridiculously complicated is another tactic to try and prevent efficiencies, with the aim to collect more money. It really is the best reasonable rate gym / resort. If I had kids. This would be where I'd spend my time. Kids club gives you two hours. My friends kids love it here. They forget they have parents lol. I can agree to the 3 stars for i think though they do keep it clean usually. There has been many times I wanted to take a pic of how gross the bathroom was and the many times you could tell it has been neglected for such a busy club. But I'm giving 4 stars because it's open 24/7. And their kids club hours are reasonable. It's free baby sitting every day for two hours. Then you can family swim. I'd love some day to give a gym like this 5 stars. I really don't think it's that hard to capitalize on the population that they could serve. I think 3 stars is too picky but 4 is almost too generous. I don't buy supplements here. They really should compete on their supplements and food. I love this gym for how big and clean it is, for being open 24/7, and all the programs it has. The daycare center is huge and is a ton of fun for kids. They have huge indoor and outdoor slides for the kids to play in. They have the swim classes that are very affordable. I don't know how to use 90% of the equipment but I didn't do much outside of the basics. I did pay for a boot camp and never got refunded but that was my own fault and years ago. If only this gym were closer to me, I'd go back in a heartbeat. read more

I never knew I missed this place until I walked back into it. I was a member about 8 years ago and quit once I got into the shape I wanted. Now as I rotate my gyms and fitness places, looks like Im back to the top of the list. I guess the $60 per month pretty much kept me away for a while, after all you can pay only $10 a month for a gym membership nowadays right? After my last fitness journey at a crossfit place I was paying $90 a month, I figured to give Life Time a shot again. Really I mean, how can you go wrong here? I can work out, swim, eat lunch, sit in the steam room or hot tub, bring my kids, play basketball, rock climb and so on. Perfect for summertime when Im looking for something to do for my 11 year old that doesn't involve a computer of PS4. The only negative thing I'll say is they made me sit down with a personal trainer and have an "evaluation" done. I knew what was coming........ $900 blood test $250 workout that involved a mask and a treadmill. $90 an hour personal training and of course the massive amount of nutrients my body is missing that ONLY Lifetime fitness sells. Then he proceeded to tell me I have 40lbs of fat I need to lose, I don't work out correctly, I don't eat correctly, overall I don't live my life correctly and Im just completely wasting my time working out unless I follow his plan. I get it, your a 50% trainer 50% salesman, just a squirrel trying to get his monthly commission nut. Avoid this if you can. There needs to be a little more tweaking in the salesmen department if you ask me. After an hour with this guy, all I got out of it was I was fat and I needed him and his multi-thousand dollar fitness program. I would of given 5 stars if I didn't have to sit through this time share presentation first. Lame. read more

I came to cancel my membership in October and soon after I received a call about having my account on hold at no charge. Turn out after 6 months the hold is released and your charged again at full rate. The staff here is telling me it's corporate and they can't reverse it but I don't believe it. The only reason I'm giving two stars and not one is because it is a really NICE gym. Lots of amenities IE cafe, salon, classes. But here are the problems: 1) They charge WAY too much! I pay $55 a month whereas any other gym I've been a part of is$30 or less 2) The staff SUCKS! Personal trainers are super FAKE and stuck up. The coordinators or whatever you call them are also very fake and pushy salespeople. I tried to cancel my membership and they incented me by saying they would give me $150 LT bucks to use but then I never actually received them! 3) This place is always crowded. And most of the members are not friendly or polite and will run you down in the hall like you don't even exist! 4) You know those commercials for planet fitness where the guy is shoving his abs in everyone's face? Yeah, a lot of THOSE types of people come here too If you are looking for a super expensive, fancy gym and you have a tight tone body and like to stick your nose in the air, this place is for you!
