We frequent Lifetime gyms whenever we travel as we like the consistent quality and classes provided by the gym. Overall, this is a very nice building and was on the larger side from the facilities that we are used to. They have both Pickleball and basketball courts. They also have the standard high-quality technogym equipment found in all of their locations. The steam and dry sauna area was on the smaller side from what I'm used to seeing, but they were very clean and well-maintained. The Lifetime café was also very clean and had plenty of space to sit down. Overall, wonderful experience and would definitely visit again in the future read more

Please fix the temperature in both the men's and women's saunas which have apparently recently been reset at 168 instead of the previous setting at 182-186 agrees. We are paying top dollar monthly dues to access this service which has been inaccessible at the recommended therapeutic level for the past several weeks. I spoke to sweet April, front desk concierge, about this last week hoping that the issue would be resolved quickly, but, despite April's efforts communicating the issue to her supervisor--and my own--nothing has been done to correct the problem. Lifetime Gym is EVERYTHING! It reminds me of Equinox in NYC but on a higher level. I was able to work and experience the amenities since I booked a massage here -- it's one of the perks of Lifetime. I believe that fitness should be available in all forms, which is why I appreciate facilities that incorporate more than just weights. It also allows the member to spice up their routine if they want to go from swimming, dancing, to tennis. The point is to keep moving and make it fun and exciting. They also have food and smoothies on site, so you literally can spend your entire day there -- and I did. There were a ton of members working on site as well. The locker room was spacious, which included a hot tub, sauna, steam room, hair supplies, and plenty of towels. This gym is well equipped and well maintained. read more

This gym continues to have some of the rudest members I have ever encountered. I have seen people in scrubs leave sopping wet with sweat without cleaning up after themselves, people do not let you work in as they do multiple sets. The most recent encounter was a woman who got angry when I asked if she was gonna clean up after herself and had the excuse that it was just her first set and that she wasn't sweating yet. The gym itself, the facilities are beautiful, very well equipped, friendly staff. It would be better if they stayed open until midnight on weekends because not everyone works M-F/9-5. They need a cold plunge pool year round, as well as infrared beds. Also, they need more locations in the greater Charlotte area because Charlotte is still growing. There's only 1. Atlanta, where my brothers live, has multiple locations. It would alleviate the demand on one gym, and it would especially make parking easier. I only came once as a guest. But this gym doesn't seem like a gym. I do have to say that the price of admission (membership) reflects that. The first time I saw this place it seemed more like a casino size rather than a gym. Walking in, it's huge. There's a spa, a pool, a ton of tennis courts, full court basketball, and a steam room and jacuzzi. There's even pickle ball there. So I mean it really is endless as far as what you're looking for. Now, granted it's pricey to get a membership. You're looking at around $300/month. You can of course bring a guest in, however I believe that is limited. But, if you're looking to really live/love gyms, this is really a top notch spot. I can't really find anything negative to say in my one time trip, other than that the steam room didn't quite work after a certain time. I'm sure this won't be my last visit here. read more

Disappointed with how the "trainer", Chris, handled my daughter's introduction to having a trainer. She felt so insulted. That is what I planned to give her for her birthday. Anyway, up until then, she was loving the environment, the classes, the equipment and enjoying the other amenities. Then, she had her first and only training session. The guy who sold her the membership had recommended a different trainer but Chris said no. He said she was a new member and he provided new member training. He was trying to get her to sign up for more training sessions and insulted her. She is a carrot person not a stick. Now, she has terminated her membership at the gym. She says he is there every time she goes, and she feels the weight of his judging words. It's unfortunate for your gym because she has a very lucrative career which is right down the street from your gym. She had planned on encouraging her friends to join as well since it is so convenient to work. I wish I had never encouraged her to try a trainer. read more

If you are an adult looking for access to tennis courts or the indoor pool don't look here. It is almost impossible to get an indoor tennis court in the winter and because of the many USTA teams, the same applies to outdoor courts in spring/summer. Lifetime reserves the indoor courts for college teams, and clinics and lessons by their pros first, before members get an opportunity. The website and app for reservations have many problems and issues too. The pool hosts many swim lessons and teams making indoor evening swimming impossible. In short, they seem to value dollars over access for members. Demand is exceptional so they are not shy about raising prices. The yoga/workout classes and fitness parts of this facility are great and the only reason I didn't rate it 2 stars. read more

The facilities are incredible and I will be completely honest about that. That is legitimately the only reason I go here; at no point has any employee made me feel like a valued customer and I truly cannot figure out why aside from the obvious. The staff has been wanting on a multiple occasions. When I came to look into membership, the woman at the front desk asked me if I was sure I could afford a membership and didn't even offer a tour. I had to insist on a tour to be shown around. When I returned after looking at a few other gyms in the area, I was asked again if I was certain I could afford the membership although no one had even discussed pricing with me on either occasion. Seems odd someone would assume I couldn't afford a gym membership. She then pried into what I did to try to figure it out. More than one employee has asked if I had a membership while I was using the facilities as if i didn't belong even after I joined. Several times cleaning staff has had to interrupt casual conversations between other employees to let them know I am a customer and needed help. I honestly can't figure out what about me has convinced every desk personnel that I don't belong in a gym I clearly pay for but I guess if you have the right look, this gym would deserve 5 stars. read more

I have been a lifetime member for a long time now. I attended the Peoria Happy valley location in phoenix AZ. Attended 5days a week and had a personal trainer there for the last year. So it was a no brainer when I relocated that I would continue and attend Charlottes location. I was first placed on a waiting list for a month. And once I got in, I began going. I've been to 3 lifetime gyms in total, and this gym just simply wasn't anything like I expected it to be. As an athletic gym, I expected more for those of us that train and condition with speed, strength and mobility in mind. But the space to use the strength machines and barbell squat racks is very small. They've condensed both lower body machines, upper body machines, barbell racks, and the "recovery" space all into one half of the gym and the rest is all treadmills and cardio equipment. And the floor is not very big at all. And then there are at least 8 tennis courts outside, as an athletic gym I don't understand why this space isn't used better to support athletes as expected. I don't know why this gym is 2 stories, when everything including the basketball court is all on one. I guess I'm spoiled by my old gym in Peoria that had tons of space to train and recover, a day care, classes on one floor and basketball court and amenities on the other. In all honesty this Charlotte lifetime is a country club and given its location maybe that's the ultimate goal. But there is no way you are trying to support an athletic lifestyle with this gym. The recovery station was literally just 5 massage chairs, no massage guns, nanotec equipment, stretch tables or anything. I'm now in search of a new luxury gym and I hope one comes to Charlotte. It's the one thing this city really struggles with as everything is group and class focused which isn't ideal for strength training and power lifters. read more

I've been a member here for 2.5 years, and am just about at the end of my rope. Dues keep increasing, they close more frequently for maintenance (and yet cardio and other equipment has not been fully functional for months), and the place is not clean. And more space is taken by things (chairs, classes) for which there is an additional charge. But that all has become the norm. What is most troubling is that the open-space classes have music that is so loud and pounding that I feel assaulted. I just arrived for my personal training (IMO, the only reason to choose this facility) and I cannot find a piece of cardio equipment to warm up on with a decibel level that doesn't cause me literal pain. I'm in a mat in a corner as I write this, and I hear and feel viscerally three sets of music and one mic'd instructor. It's just too much. read more

All HAIL LifeTime I said ALL HAIL LIFETIME. When I say I've been in gym HELL here in Charlotte after experiencing LifeTime Fitness as a Platinum member the 2 years we lived in Columbia, MD. We arrived in Charlotte in LATE 2012 and was told there was a LifeTime Bronze Level here on Independence. We pulled up were disgusted and even tried to go in and I started to cry as it looked like a strip mall Planet Fitness so we went with YMCA. Early this year (2017) I got a message from LifeTime (They didn't forget about me) saying they were coming with a Top LEVEL facility and wanted us to have the opportunity to become founding members before they built it. I was ALL in once I got the virtual demo of how it was going to look and be set up (very much like MD but on Steroids, it's like New York Time Square being AMAZING but once you go to Tokyo time square it's like New York HUH?!). I am soooooo HAPPY after tonights Grand Opening for founding members. This place is 24 hours you can have breakfast, lunch, dinner, Workout, take a shower, get a mani, pedi, facial, massage and more. The children area is unheard of the offerings are endless and the outdoor pool and slide as well as all the Vegas style cabanas are EVERYTHING. I mean I can't explain the magnitude of awesomeness all I can say is IT'S worth the cost of a membership PERIOD. I'll be happy to share my referral code to any and everyone as YOU HAVE TO be a member. Ooh did I say it's much closer to home for us as well. We use to drive 30-45mins to the nearest Y and now we are only 10-15 away to a World Class State of the Art VIP facility. Couldn't be more Happy and what a way to end 2017. This club really does not do justice to the Lifetime brand. I have loved every location I've been to but this one was a disappointment unfortunately. The locker rooms were really lacking that high end touch, the shower leaked and the water pressure was barely there. Unfortunately the hot spa/sauna/steam room area was extremely bright, somewhat messy and seemed super clinical as opposed to relaxing. There were FLORESCENT lights in the sauna & the steam room, which made it impossible to relax. I've never been to a steam room or sauna that wasn't dimly lit. These amenities are also all ridiculously small compared to the size of the gym, only a small handful of people could fit. The front desk also needs major assistance, with three people there, only one was doing anything besides standing around while people bottlenecked and had to sit aside for several minutes to be checked in. It seems like there's a pretty bad lack of good management here. Several machines were not working too, I just can't believe this location is considered a diamond club. You could pay 1/4 of the price and get a much better experience at the Dowd YMCA read more

I love Lifetime Fitness. I have been going to one in Atlanta (Woodstock). (It's awesome) and now temporarily We are in Charlotte and was so excited they had one too. OMG.....I left it and I had to go join the YMCA. 339.00 for two adults for lifetime? I am sure that helps subsidize the massive amounts of children in daycare. Probably cause only one in town. I have no issue paying for a good club but so much wrong with this one. First off, it is soooooooo crowded. The worst part is the classes. Quality instructors but the music is so loud. I mean uncomfortably. I can't think I am the only one that feels this way. Then the instructor has to yell over it. Flashing lights. Dark.....WOW.....what a total disappointment. People are allowed to show up late and then disrupt those that have already placed their mats. No courtesy for those that make it on time. I am just unsure of what the music is so loud. I am going to reiterate that my experience was the same as many other reviewers on here. I went to visit this club from another country club and my daughter had me on speaker phone when she went to introduce herself for a match after spending 25 min trying to locate the proper staff for checking in and then the lady who was no where to be found finally showed up and accused her of being late. She couldn't have been more polite. I would be glad to update this review based on how this matter is corrected with professionalism and integrity. I felt degraded and devalued and treated as if I was a liar when I called to cancel my account for the 4th time due to COVID. On Feb 4 I went to the doctor online for COVID since nurses will turn you away if you physically show up and have COVID symptoms, unless you roll in an ambulance with lung capacity below 80%. I called in to have my membership cancelled and LifeTime kept charging me. I emailed them and after I followed their email protocol to cancel they charged me again. Couple of months after my cancellation charges continued to show up and when I asked for it to be corrected. While I was battling for my life and trying to regain my lung capacity the next 9 months I did not have a fight left in me. I feel taken advantage of my weakness as I got charged for over 5 months, and if they checked their records they could see that I never made it to the gym because I nearly died. I would have definitely continued my membership if they handled my situation with integrity, compassion, and respect. I couldn't get a single manager to step into their executive role to make the proper discernment to go ahead and credit my account. As I launch my future published book, you will loose me and many others that follow me as I will share this experience with others, until it is corrected. My idea of joining lifetime was to get my kid some exercise while I work out in the gym. I get home at 5.30 so the idea was to get to the gym by 6. That plan has failed spectacularly because of the following reasons. 1. It seems they have sold more memberships with kids than they have capacity for. I have gone at 6 for a 6.30 class and the classes are almost always full. 2. If you are interested in a physical activity, you have very few options. Most of the classes are either progressive classes (you can register in person, once in 3 months). Many classes are paid. Then they have liberally peppered the non physical classes like French, homework help, arts and craft (3-11 year olds in one group). It's frustrating 'cause when I look for what my 9 year old girl can go to, I'm left with very few options for a class in her age group. 3. The app and website makes it look like there so much available but when you filter to what you need, there's very little left. They list everything together with classes - like open pool time, family pool time etc. making the list look longer. Think Netflix where the presentation of same content makes it look more than there really is. 3. Have a look at the attached pics of the schedule. There are no free classes after 6.30 so you probably have to come at 5.30 to get into the 6.30 class. And they need your kid to wait in the play area. Now that may work for younger kids but I can't make my 9 year old wait in the McDonald's style play area for an hour, for a 30 min class. 4. You have to be with your kid (under age 12) in the pool during open pool hours. And after 8 there's no lifeguard so the kids are not allowed. 5. Kids under 14 are not allowed in the gym area which is maybe understandable but still inconvenient. Then there are other rules. Guest passes can't be used for my kids friend in the play area so my kid was disappointed that she couldn't get her friend. The club may work for some people. If it was just me, I'd actually be pretty happy 'cause there's more for adults although they try and up sell paid classes (which is ok). The staff is nice, the facility is clean and well maintained. So this is my experience for $165 a month (for me and my kid). I'm not complaining about the price 'cause there are cheaper gyms around. But instead of the luxury I've just experienced the gotchas. I did fill up a form 2 days back and spoke to one of there staff members but no one has gotten back to me to resolve my concerns. So as you see, this club can be great for some people but not for many. I may just take my kid out of the membership, for which of course there's a fee !! In summary My current experience with the kid - 1 star If I were to go alone I'd give it 4 stars. If you pay for classes, you have option of first class but if you want to free classes, you get 'basic economy' experience but hey... you do fly lifetime ! read more

Love this gym. The atmosphere is very chill, it's almost like a resort. I've never had to wait for a machine as they have an abundance of equipment. The staff is amazing and the crowd seems to be very polite as well. Not your PF or YMCA atmosphere for sure. Love stopping by the cafe for smoothies and protein drinks- you can pay for things in the club with your barcode; how cool is that? $150 a month definitely puts you on a different level for sure. You don't see weird things in the sauna, hot tub or steam room, everyone is either wrapped in a towel or wearing some kind of shorts. It feels like you're in a spa or something. Staff patrols the entire club making sure the locker rooms are immaculate paying attention to the smallest details such as the blow dryers facing a certain way, towels looking neat etc. Every shower is private with frosted glass with plenty of space, shampoo, conditioner and body wash. You'll find razors, shaving gel, Q-tips, mouthwash and endless fluffy towels. I almost wanna come by and get ready for work there haha. No more losing my lock as all lockers have a lock already and u set your own code. This gym is bomb, don't want to spoil it just come experience for yourself!! So happy I upgraded!!! read more

It's been 2 months since we've joined and honestly I absolutely love this club. We waited for quite some time to join because we wanted to make sure that we would really use the facilities because it is not cheap. I always tell people that if you use the club and its amenities, it's worth it. We are a family of 6 and so each time we come we drop the little ones off in childcare and they love it. They've taken arts and craft, cheerleading, tumbling, zumba, yoga, made slime and so much more. They have 3 hours daily that they can hang out with other kids and have some fun. The staff is very friendly and seem to really take their jobs seriously and that means a lot. And, no you can't leave the club and run errands, you must stay on the premises. LOL! I say, have realistic expectations of the kids area. You are paying 30 to 40 dollars a month for your child so don't expect them to leave here trained musicians and olympians or to have a plethora of classes to choose from especially in the peak hours. IT'S CHILDCARE, not an academy. Ultimately this is childcare with extras which no other club I've ever been to has provided. I've taken many classes from yoga (all types), Zumba, Gluteus Maxout, Kettlebell, Cycling, Cardio Kickboxing and more. I love variety because I get bored easily and having so many classes to choose from, makes it easy. I really love the yoga studio which it closed off from the gym in a way that you don't even feel like you are in the same building. It's serene and relaxing and can also be challenging enough to have you sweating buckets and questioning your life. Looking forward to the roof top outdoor yoga classes when the weather warms up. The equipment is top notch and there is plenty of it. You honestly can find a machine that will suit your style. If not, you probably don't have a style. The free weight area seems to be a nice mix of people and the grunting seems to be kept to a minimum. Although I'm not going to the gym to watch tv, it's nice to have it because you can choose what you want to watch and it keeps you working out longer. The tennis is great. Free on the outdoor courts and a fee for indoor courts. Check out the proshop, my daughter found some really cute stuff in there and they had a great sale going on. The tennis area is well lit and oh so cozy and they play tennis matches on all the tv's in the sitting areas. Someone give me a remote and I'll turn to the Food Network or HGTV and probably never leave. The food, smoothies and coffee are very good although a few items are overpriced for the portion size. Definitely grab breakfast, lunch or dinner here sometimes or maybe a smoothie to power up before or after your workout. The $5.00 breakfast deals are awesome! My kids love the pool. Water is at a great temperature and it's never crowded, at least when we go. They have lots of lessons for all ages for an additional cost. There are plenty of towels and a great family locker room that has a very large dressing stall and shower with a locked door. The only issue is that sometimes a single person will use the family locker room and it can get awkward when you see a single male or female with no children. The club is trying to address this issue. Locker rooms are large, well equipped with towels, soap, shampoo, conditioner, tampons, mouthwash, razors, kleenex, etc. The steam room, sauna and jacuzzi are in a closed off area in each dressing room and I have to say the steam room is my favorite with a hint of eucalyptus in the air. Don't stay too long though because it gets very hot in there. Minor drawbacks but not enough to remove a star: -Seats in the cycle class feel like they're made out of cement. Save your bum and bring a gel seat. -Hate that some people don't clean their hair out of the shower. Yuck. Bring shower shoes and let the staff know it needs cleaning. -There need to be more wipe stations around the gym to encourage more people to wipe down the equipment after use. The majority do not wipe them down but honestly I believe its due in part to wipes being few and far between. -Having to be in the pool with kids under 12. Can't watch from the sidelines even though the water is shallow and there's a life guard on duty. Again, a bit annoying but not worthy of less stars. Go on a tour, give it a try and USE THE FACILITIES! This is not the type of club you want to just donate to monthly. Do your homework, check the schedules, have realistic expectations and take it from there. Let the costs motivate you to keep going and get you monies worth. That is all! read more

I was a member at lifetime for years. First at the matthews location and then moved to the charlotte location when it opened up. Always had great interactions and amazing experiences. I recently had a foot injury that prevented me from being able to go to the gym so I wanted to pause my membership. I called and I spoke to Dan and he was very rude and so inconsiderate. I've never in the years I've been a member felt so belittled and diminished. I was literally scared to go into the club to sign my papers to cancel that I contacted someone else and did it over email. I will never be going back here again and if you want to feel valued and not belittled as a person then support a small gym, or even workout on your own. read more

I have been an onyx premier member since 2015, moved here from Las Vegas (LT Summerlin location), so I guess you can say I am spoiled. Until this opened I have been frequenting the University location (a bronze club) - but also closer to my house. I love love love the staff at the university location. Seth, Andrew and Keegan are especially my favorites, but this belongs to a different review. I can certainly say I miss the perks of the onyx gym. So let's get started: THE FREAKING CHANGING AREAS! The showers at this location are so much better than the Las Vegas location....the option to chose waterfall shower is amazing. It's on my must list once I renovate my bathroom. Probably even more delayed now.... changing facility is clean, the attendant is on-point. Cleans quickly, is friendly and checks-in if you need any help. I don't like that they have the same locks as the vegas gyms for the lockers. I hate putting my card in...because I have done it many times, left it in there and went home. The university location has the same dial, but you can keep your member card on you....which is sooooooooooooo much better! Machines. There are ample cardio machines throughout the entire second level, packed tightly. A little too tight for my comfort, but I guess for all the gym members flocking, you gotta have the equipment. It was a little bit more spacious at the Las Vegas location. I felt a little crowded.... that's where my 1 star deduction comes from. I felt I was almost punching the people next to me on the machines...and I'm only 5'2 Free-Weights. They have the whole alpha section in the center of the free weight area. I love using the squat rack in-front of a mirror, so I can check my posture and form, but I guess you have the alpha trainer during class.... They only had 2 squat racks outside the alpha area, and one in front of window. I used that one and hoped to see my reflection at the window. They also had one smith machine in-front of the mirror, I wonder if they can switch it with the rack in-front of the window. Ample benches, pre-loaded barbells (straight AND hex), dumbles and kettlebells to chose from. I went here on NYE-day...it was crowded, but I didn't need to wait to use what I needed. Yoga studio. Get there early! The surrender classes get packed quickly, which is good. Life-cafe. Line moves quick - did miss a 30min shake line. I guess they just opened, only have 2 blenders and loooooooooooots of people checking things out. I missed my MOCHA MADNESS. Definitely try it. Peanut butter option to add! Can't wait for the summer to check out their outdoor resort style pools. read more

I love this gym and have been a member since it first opened in 2017. The staff is very professional and helpful. The pandemic definitely changed some things though. The other two Lifetimes recently closed ( the last quarter of 2021) and since then, the gym is extremely crowded (trying to accommodate the original members and the members who have transferred). Lately, lots of equipment (machines and cardio equipment) is not operational. The free towels and toiletries in the locker rooms are a HUGE plus! The only reason I didn't give 5 stars is because there are too many people using the one remaining Lifetime Fitness in Charlotte. And Lifetime needs to add some different leg machines. read more

We have been members of lifetime for 8 years in another city, and they treated us 10times better than the one in Charlotte. We never had any problems in the other facility, but with this one the management was really rude. It's overpacked so they purposefully overpriced. And when you try to close, they will charge you for another month even though you're not going there for another one. Honestly planet fitness treats you better. read more

Thought it couldn't get any worse but I was wrong. Most overcrowded dump I have ever seen. Broken machines everywhere, the Bball court is closed the entire summer for camp. Half of the time it's closed on weekends as well so they can host birthday parties to generate extra revenue. Kids academy closes from 1-4 everyday, it used to be open 8-8 but they're too cheap to do that anymore. Hot tubs constantly out of service. The list goes on and on. EQUINOX, HEALTH AND RAQUET, REEBOK CLUB OR SERIOUSLY ANYONE ELSE--PLEASE PLEASE OPEN UP A COMPETING TRUE HIGH END CLUB NEARBY. YOU WILL HAVE NO PROBLEM GETTING MEMBERS. This place is a joke. Even the employees that work there will tell you, this place is going downhill fast. They are publicly traded now and we all know what that means. Penning pinching at its finest to pad the pockets of the C suite (take out a massive short on the stock....it's garbage. If I could give less than 1 star I certainly would. Just got yet another email saying dues were increasing , but "thank you for your loyalty" was the first line we just got an email saying our dues were increasing yet again even though they sent an email one month ago saying new members would be charged more but current members dues would not changed. I save EVERYTHING in writing because Lifetime has lied so many times. Listen, I love the group fitness classes and that's the only reason I've stayed for 3 years but now it's overpriced, overcrowded, understaffed and the "luxury" bathrooms are missing soap and basic paper towels half the time. Many other complaints but I would steer clear of this place. Also, when you complain, it's promptly removed from the Facebook page and no one helps to really fix your issues they just deflect. I've attached the photo from almost exactly a month ago saying our dues were not changing. I emailed the area director about it and I attached his response. It's very clear he doesn't care about retaining loyal members, he only cares about making more money from new ones. Oh and your customer service at the front desk SUCKS. These people are NOT friendly (besides maybe 2 ladies). I've seen so many reviews saying the same yet these folks still work the front desk. This is ridiculous and makes Lifetime look really bad. read more
