Mind you when I 1st started renting here (14 yrs ago!!) it was women's and men's - and they had a cleaning service!! Now not only is it unisex but the bathroom is now locked all the time and you have to track her down to get her to unlock the door. And today I waited and waited and had an emergency since I am recovering from a very serious surgery that has me temporarily dealing with bathroom issues. As a result of her hiding in the back room all this time I was unable to get there in time and made a mess. The danger in that is if I get enzymes all down my leg it will burn my skin and make things more complicated. WHAT AM I PAYING FOR IN ALL THESE "amenities" that they tout? And maybe the manager needs a head check from the really rude attitude she has been throwing towards myself and others. I'm very forgiving of a burnt out young single parent. Somehow it got lost in transit(??) that they were packing as well as moving. 2. I've moved multiple times with my same set of furniture and items and these were the slowest movers I've had by far. 3. They want to charge me $265 to "transport" my items from their warehouse in West Haven... onto the loading dock of their warehouse in West Haven. So basically $265 to be able to get my things back and have nothing to do with them ever again.

On my final trip, the saleswoman once again informed me that the manager was not on the premises also letting me know she did not know how to do the transaction required, and became defensive and belligerent... Bob was fantastic on the phone, asking all of the pertinent questions that he needed answers to. I had to be out of town myself from Friday through Sunday, so I had little to no time to pack things. I even called Bob Thursday to ask if the movers could make a second stop to drop a few things off at my sisters house while they were in Maryland. She is only living about half a mile away from my mother, but even then I thought I was asking too much. Not for Bob! He said it would not be a problem, and the extra charge was very reasonable. When the Irish moving crew arrived, they took care of everything! Even though they were not expecting to wrap and pack various pieces of art, plates, and trinkets, they did so with a smile. Both men were extremely professional, courteous, and fast. They had my mother's things packed and onto their truck within two hours. They called me from the road to update me on their progress, and they alerted a staging company as to their arrival time so the staging company could meet them at my mother's assisted living facility. They called me from the assisted living facility to clarify my sister's address, and they made the second stop at her house as well. I have never met a moving company that was so professional, courteous, experienced, and easy to work with as Irish Moving. If you ever need to move, give serious consideration to calling Bob. During in the process of the move my wardrobe boxes that contained all of my clothes were somehow lost. I contacted Arnoff and was was told to file a claim. The claim then went through a claim agency and a lowball settlement amount was offered. In researching the next steps to appeal the settlement I discovered it would have only prolonged the time and cost me more money. I would have my claim sent to an arbitrator and that would have wanted receipts for my clothing items. Who has receipts for all the items in their closet? It's a racket designed to protect the moving companies. I sent numerous emails and did receive one from one of the Arnoff family members however it was just lip service in the end. I reluctantly accepted the settlement offer which was substantially below any numerical value to replace my entire closet. I sent a final email asking them to give the service one would expect from a local company and the human touch but never heard back. They came highly recommended and I have shared my story with other friends and voiced me frustrations. I can say that I will advise anyone moving to the area to use another company.

They made a potentially complicated and messy move--with two pick-up locations prior to the final destination--seamless. It constantly amazes me how these strong guys can lift and navigate massive furniture--yet the same guys also delicately pack china and glassware. I had more than 150 boxes and there was not one broken item. Not one lost item. I trust them 100%. As far as the back story, since it had been several years since I moved, I decided to get more than one estimate. I knew I would have Big John's come over to provide an estimate, but some review-searching led me to some new players in moving. One of them had almost all 5-star reviews, which in retrospect is hard for anyone to pull off. Big John's came in and gave me an estimate and told me it would be a 2-day move. I then had the second moving company (the one with almost all 5-star reviews) come over. Their estimate was nearly half the cost of Big John's and they said they would do it in 1 day and with only 3 workers. I have had at least 4 or 5 people move me for years. Oftentimes it is 6 or 7 people. I mentioned this to the moving company representative more than once. I even said "I don't mind paying extra for another person." That is the truth. I would rather pay more and have an efficient and good move as opposed to a situation where the movers get exhausted halfway through the day. He told me their philosophy is that "any more than 3 people bump into each other." I have never witnessed movers bumping into each other before and I was skeptical. (It is clear to me now that their revenue model depends on having as few people as possible perform the moving job.) But I was blinded by the low estimate so I verbally agreed to hire them. When I told Big John's I was not using them, they called me back right away and were very professional but wanted to know why. I told them what I had been told by the second mover and Big john's said "you have really nice stuff, you know how careful we are." True. He also told me about some potential problems they could encounter on the road insofar as trucking laws. I also thought to myself that I did not want to be in a situation where three guys from the new moving company were coming to my place at 8am and unloading the truck at my new place at 11pm. That was a very real possibility. That was enough. I came to my senses and I hired Big John's. I later realized that the second mover was a very good salesperson--he had lots of emotional intelligence and came across as warm and caring and said all the right things--but there were far too many things that could go wrong. I reviewed the various email and texts and paper estimate and saw there were a lot of gray areas and contradictions in what I was being promised. After I cancelled with the second mover (almost three weeks before the actual move date) he started to show his true colors: he began calling, texting and emailing me repeatedly over several days. Managing his drama significantly added to my pre-move stress. I wish he had just bowed out gracefully. Instead, he was telling me about all the extra people he would bring in to move me (so much for his "3 people" philosophy) and how he would do the move "in 2 days, too," If I wanted. He would not let go of it. He kept behaving as if I had not cancelled. Even after I emailed him to re-state that I was cancelling, he kept going. He seemed perplexed that I would want to pay more for another mover. He never grasped the concept that I would be paying more for more...more services and for a company I have used a half a dozen time in the past. Not to mention a company that treats its workers well and does not expect them to work 12-14 hour days. On the day of the move, I was happy to see two guys I had used in the past, including the foreman. I really like the way Big John's has clear delineations of roles: there is a chief/foreman (who knows how to manage people), there are the guys who move the boxes, the guys who are great packers, the guys who wrap furniture, the guys who handle the tricky stuff (like my grandfather clock), the guy who tracks all / keeps inventory, and the guy who arranges and rearranges the truck as needed. This is why they don't "bump into each other." I see no reason for me to ever not use Big John's again. I mentioned this in my older review, but it is a rare thing when I enjoy paying a bill. But moving is so important and Big John's is so good, they make it worth it!
