    I'm on the wall somewhere

I was in Antwerp, and a cocktail bar owner told me that Life Is Beautiful was his favorite bar in Brussels, so I just had to visit. After a few drinks, I was convinced it might actually be the best cocktail bar in the world. The spot is easy to miss, as its signage is understated and not gaudy. There's sidewalk seating, and tables inside. I grabbed a seat at the bar because I love watching mixologists doing their thing. Their menu has something for everyone, and one look behind the bar and you'll see a ton of liquors from all over the world (their Japanese whiskey selection in particular was excellent) and a ridiculous selection of bitters. The first drink I ordered was the Matcha Picchu, which was their take on the pisco sour. I ordered it, and the mixologist Harouna brought it to me immediately. Turns out he made an extra, but for a second I thought I was in a Minority Report pre-cog bar. Either way, the result was the same - I had a particularly delicious cocktail in my hand. Well balanced and unique. For my second, I had the Tea Time, which was bourbon infused with Earl grey, with coconut syrup served in a teacup. No, really. It was awesome. The right amount of boozy body with a nice crispness perfect for summer. The bartender I interacted with the most was Chris, who took great care in crafting every single thing he made. If you get a chance to, watch him make an Under The Garden. They use a smoke gun to infuse the drink with smokiness with a potted plant on top. It's just something you have to watch. Anyway, I finished my day with a Japanese whiskey (wish I could've stayed longer, but I'd been drinking all day), and Chris asked if I wanted my photo on the wall. I struck a pose, they took a tiny Polaroid of me, and asked me to write something. I wrote "The best cocktail bar in Brussels!!!", but I'd like to officially amend that to "in the world". Review #2500!

Simply a small cocktail bar with a really top-notch mixologist, Herbert. Give him a clue what you like and let him create. If you like a really good cocktail, highly recommend a stop to see these folks.

This place is SO nice! It's all new and shiny, only 2 months open but they are doing such a great job! You have quite a lot of great cocktail bars in this part of Brussels, but this one really stands out. They really take their cocktails serious and it's just a place where you don't find your typical cocktail. These are really some of the best cocktails I've ever tasted. You should really try the 'underthegarden' cocktail, which is awesome. It's a spiced cocktail with a touch of berry and it smokes! The smoke actually gives this such a good and surprising flavour. Oh, and it comes with an actual 'garden' on top. There's also fingerfood available and you can rent this place for party's! Woopwoop. It's a rather small bar, with cosy interior. Complete with small lights, plants, cushions and everything! It's well located, close to the centre and the waterchannel, in the beautiful city of brussels. Really worth checking out.

    Coordinates and the Gentleman. Delish!

(Price:12 euro) I got a second drink, a mojito because the first drink was spicy and I wanted something sweet as well.

Since the wife and I have really been into cocktails lately, trying to learn as much as we can, and trying new things, we decided to check them out on a Friday night. The bartender, Mica was so kind and friendly to my wife and me. We sat at the bar to watch him work, and to admittedly pick his brain when it came to ingredients. The wife tried a classic Mai Tai and I had their Cognac Safe Ticket. You can find descriptions of their house cocktails in the pictures. I absolutely loved the CST, and found it to be so delicious with it's hint of pear. We ordered a cheese plate and two more drinks, a Dill Breaker and An Apple A Day Keeps the COVID Away... Which despite the long name, was easily, without a doubt, the one of the best cocktails my wife and I have ever had! We enjoyed talking to them about their rums, especially their Trinidadian rums. They let us try some vermouths and other ingredients we and been curious about, and the bartender was so open to all our questions and provided some great conversation as well! The vibe of this place is great. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice date spot, or for great cocktails. We can't wait to go back!

The bartender from another local bar told us to check this place out, and although it ended up being a little bit of a search mission, it was well worth the detour. When we arrived they asked if we had a reservation (Sat evening). We said no, and they said that was okay, they had seats downstairs. There's a prohibition like feel meets 1920s themed mental patient/witch doctor like vibe, making you want to instagram every little thing you see. We walked past the first floor, down some stairs to a little area with couch like seats and then down to the downstairs floor. Interesting bar with lots of unique contraptions in glass underneath the actual bar, as well as a giant stuffed lion with a bandage wrapped around his head. They had a fair impressive list of cocktails, but keep In mind, none of them were cheap. The waiter did also promise to make whatever drink we liked. I ended up going with the Pisco Sour and my gf had a random drink they made which she really liked. Definitely an awesome bar...reminds me of something great you would see in Brooklyn! It looked like there were a lot of local here!

They have a few options for pasta, but pretty much all of them will come with a heaping amount of average spaghetti, tons of meaty sauce, and copious amounts of cheese. I like my pasta covered in parm but this was a new level, and I had to scrape off a lot. Portions are extremely large, which ends up making the prices quite reasonable, but I struggled to finish mine, and not just from the size. My short rib topping was meh; I would just stick with the normal bolognese. Beer selection is pretty good. Our first waitress was indifferent but we later had a charming and attentive waiter. Bathrooms are grungy and communal, like a dive bar or venue. I can see why this place gets recommended to tourists, as it's in a charming neighborhood with a mix of locals and foreigners, it's easy to get a seat, and it's an attractive value. However, I just didn't think the food was good.

With this, I was slightly dubious - but they seriously know what they're talking about. After a long journey and lazy afternoon in and around the hotel, we hopped in a taxi and went straight to Monk for our first evening meal in Brussels. Aesthetically, everything is just spot on for me. From the window decal to the floor titles and the dark wooden cladding to the hidden nature of the restaurant in the back, if I could transport one place back to the UK with me it would be here. We managed to work our way through the Thursday night crowds and into the restaurant to grab a table; there was roughly a twenty minute wait but, with a Frankie & Benny's style buzzer to let us know when the table would be ready, we headed back into the bar. I went for their standard blonde on draught and Kate W. found her new favourite beer in the world, kriek boon. The atmosphere was the right balance between busy but not overwhelming, and service at the bar was super speedy despite the crowds. Once the buzzer went off, we headed immediately back through and settled down to look over the menu. It's a super simple set up - you choose your pasta sauce and cheese topping - for €10. We both went for the classic bolognese (the dish we'd read the most about) topped with parmesan. The whole meal experience was simple, no frills, but absolutely excellent. We visited again on our last day just for a drink, but their deli selection is well worth partaking in from what we saw; a whole range of meats and cheese, plus a traditional pea soup and hunks of bread, all soundtracked by someone playing the grand piano. Whether you're after a simple laid back beer or full dinner experience, this is the place to be.
