I had a terrible problem with my foot after an injury. The swelling would not go down and several months and x-rays later, I limped into his office. Most chiropractors do not work on feet, but he did and he actually helped me. Dr. Ruiz also gave me a really good price. He first tried to sell me on the packages, but was still accommodating when I chose not to purchase one. I think he is knowledgeable, but I can see how his personality could rub someone the wrong way. My foot is fine now, but ever since he got rid of his long-time assistant, I don't feel comfortable going back unless I have to. I came to Dr Ruiz with a chronic back issue that I figured was just something I was going to have to live with. I am always wary of doctors and often feel that much like a used car salesperson, will sell you something you don't need or that doesn't really work. As much as I liked Dr Ruiz and found him to be very professional and thorough, I still didn't believe that my problem would simply disappear within the prescribed treatment time. I started my treatment about three weeks ago and haven't even finished a quarter of the prescribed treatments and am amazed with the changes. I didn't realize how much I lived with until it was corrected, and there is still more to do. As an athlete, I am not a novice to chiropractors, but none has ever dealt with the root cause of my constant injuries. 2nd trimester and I'm pretty active but after feeling some discomfort for a while my hip just gave out. It was painful to walk, lean, stand, and even get down to the bed or a chair. A friend recommended Dr. Ruiz. Got appt same day and Dr. Ruiz was very friendly. He made some adjustments and I was sore the next day but by day 2 I was able to walk slowly and get into bed and sit on chairs without as much pain. By the end of a week and and another treatment my muscles were finally healing since they weren't being constantly pulled out of whack and I was able to do normal day to day activity. 3 weeks out and 2 more appointments and I'm back to introducing my normal workout. I wasn't a client of this business but I did have an altercation with this guy, Matthew Ruiz, near his place of business that should at least provide an insight into his character. I was driving south on South First and pulled into the right line to move around a car that was waiting to take a left turn. It was a busy Saturday and the traffic was heavy. There were pedestrians all over the place and a bicyclist on the road ahead. I saw in my rear view mirror a car bearing down on me and heard him laying on his horn. I live in this neighborhood and there's NEVER a time it's safe to drive that fast along that road. Did I cut him off? Hardly. He had plenty of room to slow and stop, and I had plenty of room to move into the lane and continue. But I could see that I had made him angry. And then I flicked him off. That put him over the edge! He pulled up alongside me and I got a good look at him. His face was contorted with rage. He was mouthing words at me that I couldn't hear, and gesturing. Then he pulled ahead and RAMMED HIS CAR INTO MINE. My right tires hit the curb but I maintained control. THEN HE DID IT AGAIN! People all around could hear the impact of the cars but he didn't stop. I followed him a few blocks and then he turned and drove past the place I learned later was his clinic. He finally stopped, I guess when he saw I wasn't intending to let him get away with it. He was NOT apologetic. I called the cops, who told me to stay in my car and have no interaction with him. The dispatcher thought I was crazy to have followed him: if he uses his car as a weapon because he's in too big of a hurry, he's likely to be capable of worse. I didn't collect his information, but took a picture of him, his car and his license plate. He left pretty quickly, saying that he had an appointment at his clinic! I knew he had been in a hurry. I didn't realize he was a chiropractor! How ironic! Well, rest assured if you make an appointment with him, he may well do anything to be there on time. The police never showed. I wanted to file charges but it required filing a claim with my insurance company and I didn't want the hassle. So I decided against it, thinking the police made a good point in suggesting I have no further interaction with this guy. But I'm filling out this review so people know a little about a person whose hands they may trust their health to. I strongly suggest you STAY AWAY! read more

I found Dr. Ruiz to be arrogant, condescending, and unprofessional. I felt that my wishes for MY body were not only disrespected, but completely unheard. It seems to me he is much more interested in his own success than he is in the well-being of his patients. Read further for explanation... First, he asked me point-blank, in front of the entire waiting room of people, what my health issues were. To me this is sensitive and very personal information, and believe that it should be kept confidential between patient and doctor...not shared with everyone at the practice. I was very uncomfortable with this practice. Second, I've been in a lot of pain lately, which necessitated two CAT scans in the last six days. My doctors were concerned about such high exposure to radiation over such a short period. I know most chiropractors use x-rays to help guide them, but during the year before I moved to Austin I was seeing a great osteopath who relieved my pain without exposing me to anything unhealthful. I told Dr. Ruiz very clearly that I did not want more radiation exposure from X-Rays, and asked if he could work without them. Instead of just telling me he would rather not and respectfuly letting me find someone who was a better fit for me and was willing to work without x-rays, he condescendingly tried to talk me into it, showing me x-rays of other patients and how he had fixed them solely due to the x-rays, and bragging, claimed that "only 2% of chiropractors could correct such a spine." I didn't appreciate the arrogant tone of his speech, nor his complete ignoring of everything I had said. I was happy to leave without an adjustment, but was very frustrated that a health practitioner, who by nature of the job needs to listen to patients and respect their authority over their own bodies, disregarded my words with a flare of arrogance. I received a call 10 minutes after I left with a non-apology: "I'm sorry it SEEMED TO YOU that...," "I'm sorry if YOU were offended..." The call was more to save face than to genuinely apologize or ask how to better serve patients. Dr. Ruiz was calling for another chance to tell me how right he was and how good he was. I'm always wary of a doctor who finds the need to toot their own horn. All I heard was more arrogance, unprofessionalism, and lack of listening. This frustrated me even more, and lead to an argument about listening and respecting patients...with him, clearly not listening, trying to talk over me the whole time. Maybe I came on an off-day, but it seems to me Dr. Ruiz cares way more about how he feels and maintaining his pride than he does about his patients and their health. read more

I'm in my 2nd week of treatments for feeling a bit contorted or "out of whack", kind of like the hunchback without the hump, nothing too serious. While I do feel a bit more straightened out (I've also been getting deep massage therapy) Dr. Matt has been late every appt. and they have been at 10AM. I almost left before my treatment the first day because he was late and today, a lady that arrived after me left before her treatment because he was 30 mins late. She gave Christa (or Krista) an earful about Dr. Matt's chronic tardiness and his unprofessionalism. I agreed and decided to write this review. Christa (or Krista) is very nice and you can tell she has to placate the patients/ clients everyday that he's late. In agreement with the Kara M, it's odd that the back cracking table is right in the middle of the waiting room so everyone watches and hears what you have to say. I didn't mind that he took X-rays because I could really see how screwed up my spine is. In response to Kara M.'s review, Radiologists don't take Xrays, they read them. Xray tech's take the actual films (or do MRI's) and they use the same information Dr. Matt does to determine how much radiation to use to penetrate the tissue. Don't forget that the radiation one recieves in an airplane is greater than getting an Xray. With respect for your fear of radiation, I know people who get serial CT scans so I doubt 2 CT scans will have caused you damage. But there is research being done and everybody's body is different and one's wishes should always be respected. I didn't know I had so much to say on the subject. Sorry. read more

I've been seeing Dr. Ruiz for almost 4 years. I was initially seeing him during my pregnancy for severe sciatic and pubic symphysis pain. He helped alleviate my pain, so I could have a healthy pregnancy and childbirth. We have been seeing him, weekly(as needed), since then. My daughter was gently adjusted by him 3 weeks after birth and was then able to successfully nurse on both breasts. My son was adjusted day 1 and has been incredibly healthy. If I had more characters, I would tell you more! Recently Dr Matt used his new PiezoWave(myofacial acoustic compression therapy) machine on my wrist. I've had intense pain for over a decade and very limited mobility. After one treatment, I feel like I have a new wrist. I am able to move my wrist, in all directions, with very little pain. In May of 2019 I went to see Dr. Matt Ruiz in cynical desperation. Having been Dr. Ruiz's patient over the years, I know he is an excellent healer when it comes to the spine - he's successfully treated my sciatica and is changing the curve in my neck. However, I was more than a little skeptical when he indicated he had purchased some new-fangled machine which would eliminate the pain I've suffered in my wrist for the past five years due to an athletic injury. My chronically sore wrist would every few weeks have a severe flare-up, making it difficult to lift a glass of water much less do a series of push-ups; the pain focusing in the back crease of my wrist and up to the joint of my thumb. Dr. Ruiz explained he would manually direct the fancy machine to pulse only into the area that hurt. He indicated the pulses would be uncomfortable but not exactly painful. I'm not sure I am entirely in agreement with that statement since I whimpered like a baby in a playpen during the entire two minutes of treatment and I may have bitten a hole in my husband's shirt (he made the unfortunate decision to sit next to me and my teeth somehow found themselves clamped to his shoulder). When the pulses stopped my wrist was tender. I wriggled it around and it was mind boggling to discover the pain I'd been suffering for five years was...just gone. Again, my wrist was tender but the pain wasn't there. Two days later even the tenderness was gone. Still I was skeptical the pain would return so I decided to wait at least three months before writing a review. In those three months I have not had one iota of pain in my wrist. None. No soreness. No flare-ups. I am in awe and I still can't believe that shit worked. It's miraculous. I highly recommend going to Dr. Ruiz for chronic pain and using his fancy machine, especially if it's pain you've suffered for years. read more

Dr. Matt has been taking care of my whole family over 5 years. He is kind, knowledgable, and helpful. I saw him throughout my last pregnancy and I give him at least partial credit for a healthy pregnancy and a quick and easy birth. Dr. Ruiz has been treating my wife and baby for the past few weeks. I can't say enough about how great it is to go to his office. He takes the time to help and treats us like human beings. He's very patient and never in a rush. He's even stayed late and come in on a Saturday to help my wife when she was in pain.
