First impression-very clean and nice! After all it is brand new! Once you walk in they have a bakery with a very small selection of baked cooks! I picked up a couple of small vegetable pizza! They were ok, nothing I would go out of the way for! There selections of items are very small! Example-Breads and Rolls, they have your basic white/wheat and Hot dog/Hamburger rolls, and that's it! I was very happy to find a probiotic drink that contain Keifer, if the drink is delicious I will come back for this, along with eggs .44 a dozen hell yes! My experience wasn't what I expected, I was under the impression that you could do all your shopping at there stores! It's more of get a few specific items that are worth it or hard to find! Lastly- it also sells household items, which ultimately is probably the reason for the small selection of food group items! I would most likely go back for the drink and eggs, but not much else! read more

Lidl is a very beautiful grocery store. I visited one in Germany, and I really loved the products and that "open market" feeling. I'm very excited that both Virginia Beach and Richmond are getting locations, and was doubly excited I got to visit one today. However, I didn't get the full experience today, which was very disappointing. I was in the process of gathering some apple turnovers for my mom, and a hazelnut croissant for myself [both which looked amazingly delicious and were marked at a great price], when a manager came out to tell us "our cash register system is down, so we're unable to check anyone out." The lights were still on, perhaps from a backup generator, but no way to check out any customers. No ETA on when cash registers would be up either, so all customers essentially had to leave. The employees were nice about it, but I'm just disappointed due to the lack of a backup checkout option. I guess we're fortunate we just got our shopping started, I felt bad for the folks who already had carts full of groceries at the register. We will likely come back, it's unfortunately out of the way for my family, I will update my review upon my next visit. Hopefully in the future there will be other options when the cash systems go down. read more

I really like the selection of produce, organic and varied Lidl products that are available week to week. Really great deals on well-thought out products. I hesitate to share some of my absolute favorite products that are so very reasonably priced for fear that once everyone finds out about them, they will be impossible to keep in stock (yes, some of them are that good). Having a fresh bakery, good selection of organic products (produce, coffee, tea, dairy, spices, canned, boxed and frozen goods), weekly finds on items ranging from household goods, tools, garden, clothing,etc all reasonably priced (usually), and conscientious staff makes this store a delight. Once the weekly finds are gone, they are gone - so make an opportunity to check them out on Wednesdays for new deals and also keep an eye open for their weekend only specials. read more

Clean store with good prices. Store offers quality store brands and some name brand stuff. The staff are terrible (not all, of course, but your more likely to interact with the ones who are). One guy in particular loves to get snippy with customers. My wife and I went in to get generic cokes. The limit was 3 so we each got 3. He wouldn't let us check out, he said we were together so he wouldn't do it. Does that make any sense? I went in last night and was greeted by a woman shouting at me from the register "WE'RE CLOSED!". Not "I'm sorry sir, we are closed. But WE'RE CLOSED (as in, get out). I looked down at my watch and noticed it was a few minutes till. I said "can you just give me the 2 minutes?" She shouted again "WE'RE CLOSED" followed by another employee yelling "We're closed" and a third employee (Mr. Snippy) who rolled up and said "Our clocks say 9 o'clock". It makes me never want to go in there again. I don't need cheap groceries bad enough to get treated like dirt when I'm spending money and bagging my own groceries. read more

I used to come to Lidl about 2-3 days a week for groceries, but ever since they went down to one cashier and opened the "self checkout" lanes, I stopped visiting and maybe go once every other week. Their self check out lanes are impossible and won't except items you purchase on clearance. I've tried the check out lanes 7 times and could never complete the check out. The cashier is unwilling to help in the self check, because he/she is already frustrated that they're the only one working at the front. They used to have a bunch of lanes open and now nothing. They've lowered the quality of their meat and their "organic" salad goes bad quickly. I'm okay to take the haul to Aldi's. read more

I went to Lidl's on Providence Road in Va Beach, Va on 3/30/20 and had the best customer service experience. The gentleman who assisted me at checkout, is name Connor!!! He was very professional, polite, attentive, thorough, and quick, but I never once, felt rushed. I wish all customer service representatives were like Connor. read more

I like restaurants but I also like cooking and I am always up for a new adventure. I have been to Lidl a couple of times since it's opened and yes, I get that this is the first week but I'd assume they would have their stuff a little more together. Unfortunately for Lidl, Aldi has beaten them to the punch in the local area. In our local newspaper, a Lidl spokesperson was quoted as saying that they lie somewhere between a Trader Joe's and a Harris Teeter. LOL. I think it would be more appropriate to say somewhere between a Walmart Neighborhood Grocery and a Food Lion. They don't have a lot of "quirky" items like TJ or even Aldi. Most of what they have is knock offs of everything you can get at Walmart or Food Lion anyway. The stores are much bigger than TJ or Aldi too. They "only have 6 aisles" which are split in two so... that means 12. What are the good points? They have a "bakery" that bakes par-baked items. Donuts are 33¢ and taste it. So do the $1.49 quiches. The bread is good and the baguette was better than at TJ or Aldi but not as good as a real bakery. The Italian pasta sauces were really good and I will probably come back for those. They are $1.69 but also about 2/3 the amount you get in a regular US size jar. Oh well, I need to diet anyway. The meat section is nice enough. The reusable bags are LIT (good :). Honestly this was my fav thing about the whole experience. They are durable and have two sets of handles. And if you don't like putting 25¢ in a cart, they are FREE at Lidl. Which brings me to my gripes. We went on a Sunday and it was not as crazy as the opening day. But there were carts all over the lot and the cart returns were overflowing with carts. Wanna guess where there were no carts to be found? If you guessed at the door where you come in, you see where this is going. So after getting one from the lot and telling the TWO people standing at the door, I may as well have been speaking to a brick wall. The woman just smiled and nodded like "ok I don't care". I would have rather paid a deposit than have to chase a cart down in the lot. The bakery was a mess. No bags to be found. The bread slicer is "out of order". So is the label printer. So was the scale and printer in the veggie section. The employees were sullen shells of humans. No one smiling, greeting or making anything remotely similar to eye contact. The prices are eh- well they are about the same at Aldi. They don't carry sparkling water (which is one of the "it" things of the year). They barely have anything interesting or niche. The freezer section is ok. The specials in the middle are ok too but look cheap and Dollar Store quality. The special freezer section was just tons and tons of Italian. Yes, I like Italian but I like other things too. And the wine was... ok. That is supposed to be the big thing that sets them apart? Maybe they should breeze through a Total Wine. Wines seem on the high end prices for a low-end store and the samples I had were... just ok. Not worth $11+ a bottle. The cashiers stand unlike Aldi so it was disheartening to see my pregnant cashier on her feet when she really could have been sitting. She was about the only person in the store who was nice and talking to people too. She bagged my groceries but the other lady did not the last time I went. There seems to be tons of people running around but in a very disorganized fashion. Aldi is probably its real biggest competitor but they run a much tighter ship. Yes they have been here longer but it also shows they know what they are doing. The bottom line is that while there were a few things I liked, I will probably stick with my established spots- at least until they get it together. read more

I have no bad things/cons with Lidl, I love this place, crisp produce, fresh meats, FRESHLY BAKED and addictive pastries and the staff is pretty helpful, I love coming here for their pastries, their donuts, maple/pecan swirls, and cookies are all baked in house and the aroma is otherworldly. BRING YOUR OWN BAGS. Because if not you will have to pay extra for plastic, paper or their bags. I did not know this and being that I was on a budget it was shocking to hear. Granted it was only between 10 cents to $1 it's the principle. Also you have to bag your own bags. Had the mini pizzas and those were good but I wish they had napkins over in that area because it got messy with a toddler in tow. Prices were pretty competitive. If you like Aldi, then you will like this place. Staff was friendly but it does get crowded in the store. Pretty much people staring at the prices for a long time. It was nice to look around but I will probably only go every now and then. read more

Kaiser rolls and jelly filled donuts are just like in Europe, fresh sourdough bread, sometimes still hot. They even sell organic. Love it. None of the specials in the Lidl ads are in stock-then the mngr. pointed out that " we don't offer rainchecks" and "we don't know if we'll get more" after the ad had only been out 2 days. She was at my Midlothian store near Costco and was just surly. Meanwhile, Aldi is 2 blocks away with the nicest staff and their specials are right there on the shelf for purchase. Their raspberries are $1.29 all week whereas Lidl has a Weekend Only special for $1.39. I'm no longer going near the place after being burned more than this one time on their specials! read more

I live right next door to Lidl and I love it! The only thing is is that it's kinda between a grocery store and a convenience store. It's hard to go there and get EVERYTHING I need for a recipe, but I can get most things for a very decent price. But the produce is super fresh and their bakery has the BESTTTT pretzel rolls. I was excited to hear a Lidl store would be opening very near me. The mail flyers make their products look very tempting. However, on my first visit to the store, I discovered they do not have electric shopping carts for handicapped people. Very disappointed I will not be able to try out their store. I called to see if there are any stores in the area that do accommodate disabled shoppers and the answer was "No" with no apology. I thought that was mandatory per ADA, but evidently it is not. I have been here several times and I am always amazed! Everything is clean and easy to maneuver around. The bathrooms are right by the entrance and extremely clean. The produce is fantastic and the people who work here are very kindly! You can get all sorts of European goods here and it's all fresh and good! They allow you to use empty boxes in place of bags but it's all right if you haven't brought your own, bags range in price from $0.05 to $0.99. Beware, plainview store will not be there to protect you. Was there about two weeks ago, unstable woman, either on drugs, mentally ill or both, was ranting and raving, up and down aisles, berating and bothering shoppers, with no care from store. As luck would have it, when i got in line on self checkout , she was ahead of me. still screaming, cursing and threatening others.This time she was furious b/c someone got on line in front of her after they didn't notice the line was extended into an aisle I had enough and said something to her, something like it would ge easier if you spoke nicely to people. She did t like that of course. But i tried to protect others from her. Others had been just trying to get away from her and her cursing, homophobic and racist slurs and more. i called for security and others did too. no store employees or managers did a single thing to assist. i wrote to corporate about it and i insisted on a reply. NONE came. so now i'll blast them and never return. read more
