    Merry Christmas!!!!
    Lorie F.

This grocery store is not for pretentious folks setting expectations for some high-end, anything. One will have to do a little bit of work. Aldi's claim is that it helps them keep the prices low. I think it does more than that. I personally like the quarter method as it teaches responsibility(among other things). Stand there long enough and one could make a killing in addition to being cart support. :) Store was well organized. Personally, I've seen some of the imported products at other discount grocer and merchandise stores(where there are baggers, plastic bags, and no quarter machines) that some folks wouldn't even stick their toe in. Now, IMO, the products look fancy since it's being sold in Aldi's. I did find some really good deals on my favorite things. Smoked salmon, goat cheese, bread. Grand Opening special was a 10lbs bag of potatoes for 0.99 and bag of onions for 0.29!! Service at check out was a pleasant experience. Cashier was very friendly and smiled. I came prepared with my own bags. I saw regular bags I believe they sell but, I definitely prefer bringing my own. Glad Aldi's is earth friendly conscience. I'll definitely come back. If one is expecting a Trader Joe's or Whole Foods...don't. Expect to bag your own products, expect to bring a quarter, expect to return your cart back where it belongs. Period.

I really like coming here cause I can find everything I need and leave. Even their organic options are cheap and I have enough groceries to last me a week for only $30-$40. Their their hummus and salsa! It's so good. If you use a shopping cart, make sure to bring a quarter and your own bags as well! Can't wait for the new one on Holland to open up since that one is closer to me. Edit 8/10/17 - the one on Holland across from Lowe's just opened up!!!

Here's what you need to know. - Thanks for the quarter requirement in the shopping cart. You won't have to worry about your car getting hit by stray shopping carts because of lazy people. - It's not a big grocery store but they have what you need. - Salad mix goes for under $2. Some even around $1. - Yeah, you don't get to pick and choose your meat and poultry like you do at Whole Foods but it is far less expensive on the packaged goods offered. - Almond milk comes in around 70% of what I expect to pay at a grocery store. - I found chocolate bars that aren't the high in sugar content for just a couple bucks. - You do have to bag your own groceries. Paper bags are 7 cents each. Sort of a pain in the butt but no big deal. A young cashier paid for another lady's groceries one night because there was an error with her credit card. I hope the good deed came back around for this cashier.

Don't forget your quarter for the cart!

    I. Love. ALDI. You simply cannot beat the prices. I bought a box of wine, two bottles of wine, two six packs of beer, turkey sausage, ground turkey, 3 bags of spinach, 2 bags of green beans, container of Roma tomatoes, jalapeños, bag of apples, 1.5lbs of bananas, 2 bags of baby carrots, loaf of sprouted grain bread, 6 mini cups of guacamole, jar of salsa, jar of raspberry jam, 3 dozen eggs, pack of deluxe toilet paper, pack of paper towel, deodorant and two packs of batteries for $71.97. That is insane. This location is very neatly organized, larger aisles and just overall cleaner than others I have been too. The Kempsville location is the closest to me and I will for sure to be back.

I live right across the street from This location so clearly I'm super happy about it being there instead of he golden coral, may it Rest In Peace. That being said does it have amazing selection of things ? No not really. Is the cart quarter thing kind of annoying ? Sure. I grew up with that in Italy however. They do the same thing. I do enjoy being able to get some good meats and veggies so close to my house however and I think as time goes on it will get better and better. I'm glad it's here and it seems to be doing very well at the moment. Check it out. But don't expect anything amazing

    Aldi ribeye on the grill!

Aldi is very good for a few things. First and foremost I really like their meats. Their steaks are particularly excellent. Consistently cut and trimmed well, with nice marbeling. They also have a variety of cuts, nice ribeyes and strips, bit also skirt steak and more. I also really like the fact they wrap each individually, so I can out the exact steaks I want. They are generally thick cut as well, which is nice. They also have a good section. The selection is limited, but there is always a few interesting options at good prices. They do a good job seeking out non-traditional locations and/or grape blends. Produce is OK, but not outstanding. Their grocery section is nothing to write home about either. I really don't like having to deposit a quarter to get a shopping cart either, as I don't always have one on me. It will never be a one stop shop for me, but for meats and wine alone it is an outstanding option.

My mother has long enjoyed shopping at Aldi back home in Ohio so I was excited to see them enter the Hampton Roads market and begin to gain a foothold. This particular Aldi location occupies the space formerly taken by a Golden Corral restaurant which was closed and subsequently razed. Being a completely new building this Aldi is neat and clean. The private lot affords ample parking and the lot is free of trash and debris. The first thing that strikes me when I enter the parking lot is the complete lack of grocery carts scattered all over the lot like you find at most other grocery stores. Owing to the 25 cent deposit requirement for using a cart (you get your quarter back when you return the cart) customers are incentivized to return their carts to the proper place. I absolutely love this concept and wish more store would adopt this model. Shopping at Aldi requires a different mindset than shopping at traditional supermarkets. You won't find many of your favorite brands at Aldi, most of the brand names are different than what you are used to but I've found most of their products to be of comparable quality to the brands you know. Prices for most items are considerably less than you would pay at Food Lion, Farm Fresh, Kroger or even WalMart though the variety of choices is less as well. That said, you should be able to find most of the basics you need. There is a decent produce section, a fair meat and seafood section though you won't find some of the cuts you expect in other stores. The dairy section is adequate but a little limited, you will still find all the basics. I have fallen into a habit of buying a take and bake pizza ($5.99 for a deluxe 16" pie) and popping it in the oven for dinner when I get home. The pizza is huge with a good amount of toppings and just an incredible value. It tastes great too. If you want you can easily add more toppings to it before you put it in your oven. The store layout is intuitive so shopping is not difficult. You do have to bag your own items and there are no free bags available though they do sell paper and plastic bags as well as large reusable totes and there are generally some empty boxes available for the taking. In all my visits staffing has been adequate to afford a fairly speedy checkout process. It is also not difficult to find a store employee if you have a question about a product or help finding something. All the employees I have encountered have been very polite and friendly as well as knowledgeable. If you don't relish the idea of carting all your items then packing them in your vehicle there is a counter in the front of the store where you may bag or box your items before exiting the store. Aldi may not be for everyone but my wife and I truly enjoy the great savings and the pleasant shopping experience we find at Aldi.

The restaurant is very clean with a bright friendly decor. The staff is professional, friendly, and knowledgeable. There is a weekend buffet that was perfect for me and my friend. It offered a wide selection of menu items. The staff kindly answered my questions regarding the items and their spicyness as well as explained sauces to utilize to reduce spicyness and add flavor to the items. Spot on advice. A bottle of water was provided and replaced during our meal. Other drinks are available; however, I thought water would be best if I ate something I found too spicy. Fresh Naan was brought to the tables throughout our visit. The food was delicious and filling, the service top notch, great portions for the price (observed menu item selections served to other patrons - generous portions), large parking area close to restaurant, a good mix of 4 to 10 seat tables and booths. Large screen TV's with Ballywood style music, very modest noise level that adds to dinning experience. Handicap accessible. Shopping center sidewalk, enter through two doors and entire restaurant is one level, no steps. Easy to remove a chair from a table to accommodate a wheelchair. I did not notice highchairs or booster seats but there were children (seven and up) in the dinning area. The lunch buffet was a good variety of clearly identified menu items in individual containers with lids and serving utensils. Plates, utensils, and napkins are available at buffet serving area. Cups are already on the tables. My friend and I had a truly enjoyable Indian buffet. I strongly recommend you try this restaurant - by yourself, with a friend, or a group. From the individual menu selections to several menu selections to the buffet, like my friend's co-worker said, "You should try this place, I think you will like it." Café Nectar is a cute quaint little shop on Virginia Beach Blvd. It is definitely tucked away so keep that in mind when making a visit. We were greeted by a really nice lovely staff. I ordered the Banana Amber. The menu didn't specifically differentiate what the drinks were as far as whether it was a latte or not so I had to kind of confirm that with the person taking my order. I initially requested to order cold foam that was on the menu, but I was told that they didn't have any cold foam so I just got the drink iced as is. I also ordered a blueberry lemon cake as well. Overall they had a solid selection of donut and cake flavors to choose from. My order was done rather quickly and I was second in line. I enjoyed the blueberry lemon cake. It was a large portion and super moist and very yummy. The latte however I was not a fan of. I ordered it iced and there was only a little bit of ice floating up at the top of the drink and there was a lot of milk in the latte. The color of the drink was very light so I was expecting this upon receiving. I was excited to try the drink as the menu stated that the syrups were homemade. It did definitely taste fresh, but the banana syrup seemed to be not sweet enough and and that is coming from someone who likes a really well balanced coffee. I think it could have been sweeter, as well as the banana flavor kind of tasted a bit under ripe/under developed. The owner did end up coming to me a few sips through my drink and asked if I still wanted the cold foam and she whipped some up for me. I tried the cold foam on its own and it just tasted like cream cheese mixed with heavy cream. It wasn't sweetened at all. It was just essentially thick cream which diluted the flavor and sweetness even more. I recommend the shop edit their menu a little bit so it can be clearer for understanding. Also moving towards having a little bit more product available as they did run out of cakes about 10 people into the grand opening. I recommend there be a sign upfront where you turn in pointing to the direction of the café so people are aware that it is there in the cut if that's an option. I know different areas have certain restrictions. Overall, I wish this café the best and I'm sure they'll be able to work some of the kinks out overtime. I think this spot is really cute for a nice stop in for a pick me up and the staff and owner were really nice.
