I was surprised at how good a shop that I was able to do today at Lidl. I was not expecting this quality or the variety that they have here. Produce, fresh dairy, cheese and meats, good canned goods. Wow! Prices were excellent. What I bought would probably run closer to half again more at Teeter or Publix so it was great to see the total landing under $100 today. Sure, you're going to be bagging your own groceries. And it's not the hugest selection of stuff, but there's still plenty here and I did perfectly fine. Tried Lidl for the first time today in hopes of finding an alternative to Harris Teeter's declining produce quality. Of course, all of these German imports are sleek and stylish on the outside and are open and airy on the inside. They also offer some alternative produce choices such as multicolored organic carrots and baby potato Klondike Medleys which I love. Their bakery is conspicuously located up front as soon as you walk in the front door, and hard to pass up. Their sausage and cheese variety is unsurpassed anywhere. Meats are lower priced but limited in variety. Their prominent non-food merchandise section seems like cheap junk to me but it's fun to walk through, especially around the holidays. Customer service was all but non-existant (or apathetic when I did find someone.) Sticklers will not appreciate the fact that they have to buy their own bags (7 cents for paper and 10 for plastic) then do their own bagging. I wasn't too disturbed by either. I like the fact that this encourages one to conserve. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and expect to return from time to time. read more

Just another Aldi and I'm not a Aldi fan as I don't really enjoy off brand and second grade products to feed my family mainly due to the ingredients and our inability to consume them due to dietary as well as allergy. We were driving up 521 and saw this place was now open so we decided to have a peak and upon entering I immediately knew it was Aldi reincarnated. The shelves at the entry where Bananas, Tomatoes, etc. where to be placed were all completely empty. As we walked through there were tons of other empty shelves and the lines were long and through the aisle. I only provided two stars because of the open floor plan, plentiful carts and clean look and feel of the store but as far as shopping at this place that will be a BIG NO for me personally. Now my mother LOVES Aldi and when she come to visit she always want to go to Aldi so I'll take her here so she can compare and determine if this is her FAV new store when she visit. However not for me and my family we will continue to shop WholeFood and HT and Publix. read more

What a great new-comer to our neighborhood. Had never heard of this grocery chain and all of a sudden there are a number of them popping up all over. And not like our more commonly known groceries like Harris-Teeter or Publix. I see Harris-Teeter as having the most selection, Publix having the best customer service, Aldi having no-frills and cheapest prices and Lidl fitting in being better than Aldi, but lacking the customer service of Publix and the wider selection of Harris-Teeter. It has a different feel that other groceries...you will see. Lidl (Lie-del) has the basics, but not the variety you would find elsewhere. Like in dairy, the selections of milks are limited. But limitations aside, their prices are the lowest in town. They have very good deals, like recently they had a dozen eggs for sale for $.38/dozen and they regularly have specials on other staples, like breads, dairy, etc. Good selection of reasonable wines. We particularly like their Rift South African wines which are all under $10 and are very, very good. And beer drinkers will like the international and craft beer selection. A bakery is part of their operation and it churns out a good selection of pastries and breads, daily. Also cookies and cakes. Make sure you bring your grocery bags and they only provide them for a price. I think $.10 each, like they do in California. And you have to bag your own purchases. The cashier just rings it up and you pay. The store is clean, staff is helpful, but hard to find someone to help you. That said, you will be impressed with the quality of their products. I shop Lidls every chance I get and have had very good results, however to day I shopped at the Lidl store in Indian Land, SC and bought 2 ribeye steaks that were reduced 30% (discount taken at register) However once I got home I noticed that a $12.14 steak was discounted at $2.43 and a $9,93 steak was discounted at $1.93. At 30% these discounts should have been $3.63 and $297 for a total difference of $2.24. I also purchased a can of fruit cocktail which with my rewards should have been 50% off the price of $2.56. I was charged full price. All together I was overcharged $3.52. I don't have time to stand at the end of the checkout and review the entire receipt and being as I live 50 miles from the store it didn't make much sense to return to the store and their stores have unlisted numbers so there isn't another way for me to contact them. I still gave them a 4 star rating because this is the first time I have encountered being overcharged . If you encounter an old man holding up the checkout reviewing his receipt in the future, it will be me. read more

I know Lidl is an European chain that made its way to the East Coast, so I had to check it out (drove my in laws crazy about it) while I was in Charlotte. The place is huge, it has regular American brands and merchandise, which is good, but also some European specialties that I had to check out - chocolates, desserts, even clothes (from Germany, Heidi Klum's creations). They have decent small appliances as well. Nothing luxurious, but this is a good, fun option if you want something different besides your regular groceries. The prices are low (great prices on wine- nice selection), I also liked their produce section and the bakery area. I liked Lidl, I don't have it on the West Coast where I live, but I enjoyed my visit. It also has a huge parking lot. If you live in the area, give it a shot, it can be a fun shopping trip. read more

I had such a great time taking my TIME to shop and go down each aisle in Lidl. Walking in my mind was SET on fruits veggies and getting my foodies to prep my body for my 10k. HOWEVER that's really not possible walking into Lidl. You're immediately slapped in the face with the delicious aroma of fresh baked breads, cookies, cakes and whatever else is in the bakery area! So disrespectful to people like me that's trying to be all healthy and stuff... But I mushed through, plugged my nose and headed to my fruits and veggies. Everything on the floor was fresh and well stocked. They had so many great prices and mark downs! So many I can't list but I took lots of great photos so you can see. The reason I did not provide 5 stars is because my experience shuttered tremendously during check out. I managed to get the lady who was not friendly at all. Heck she didn't even greet me when I walked up. She started ringing up my merchandise and I had to stop her because I had requested a price check on a item. Sees as though she wasn't being friendly she didn't hear this request from me. I bagged my groceries and shook her nasty attitude off because I couldn't allow that to ruin a great day I was having. read more

I have shopped at this Lidl twice since they have been open and so far, I am a fan of it. Of course, it is a German grocery chain, so nothing like Harris Teeter or Publix. I love both HT and Publix for certain things, but on average I spend a good deal more at those stores than I spend at Lidl. On my first visit to Lidl, I shopped very carefully and really noticed the savings at the checkout. I spent around half what I would have spent normally at one of my usual stores. On this most recent visit, I splurged and bought a lot of extras and ended up spending about $175. However, I did in fact come home with a lot of groceries. I stocked up on a lot of staples for the pantry including things like pasta, sauce, cereal, canned veggies, and that sort of thing. I picked up a lot of snacks & junk food (potato chips, pretzels, cookies, and candy). I also bought a good deal of fresh fruits & veggies, cheese, seafood, and chicken. I also got things like seltzer water, wine, soda, and paper towels. All in all, I definitely walked out with 2 weeks worth of groceries. I think that they have a great bakery and my hubby and I are both fans of their pretzels, so I had to pick up a few of those as well. I actually like Lidl much better than Aldi in terms of the selection and quality of what I buy. read more

I love grocery stores ... I love choosing my produce, searching for unexpected items and cool products. Lidl - in my own humble opinion- is the Mecca!!! The produce was so incredibly fresh, they had really interesting and cool products all over the place. I bought 2 hanging baskets for the front porch for $4.99 each. I bought vanilla beans --- yaaa heard me... vanilla beans for $2.99. They carry a lot of spices including organic options. I bought super fresh very lean turkey meat there and made tacos with it using their taco kit. It was delicious. They have beautiful cut fresh flowers. I bought tulips that were so lovely! They have a great beer and wine selection. There is a fresh bakery on the premises. Everyone was friendly and kind. I love that I can buy organic, but not totally break the bank like when I shop at WF. You must check it out!!! read more

First time I came here all the shelves were full and stocked. Second time I came here it was so empty. This place can be hit or miss but you can't beat the prices. I've gotten several things from here and was overall pleased. One tip-don't get the frozen meat lasagna. It's not good at all. This place is similar to aldi but bigger. It has the essentials but not everything. They do have more cashiers than aldi so the line isn't as long plus they have coupons!! I do enjoy coming here on the weekdays because it's not as busy. Located right across the SC line in Indian Land. Be Careful turning left into their parking lot, oncoming traffic from SC is coming towards you pretty fast! When you go there, you'll see what I mean! Busy parking lot but not difficult to find a parking spot. Plenty of grocery carts (small and full sized). While this German Grocery store is like Aldi, you don't need a magic quarter to unlock the buggy. You walk in and can immediately see that it is a large, open floor plan. It is clean and has very wide aisles! Upon walking in, you're struck with bakery goodness! You can select your options of pastries and/or fresh made cookies for purchase. Not sure if this is every day pricing but they had a special the day that I was there - buy 5 cookies, get the 6th one free! Very good cookies... Recommend the chocolate chip cookies! Plenty of fresh produce at affordable prices! Its a German Grocery store, they have their brand names food/items but they also have more popular US brands too. For example, they have their brand fabric softener but also have Downy Products. This was the case in almost every department throughout the grocery store. Our family has been very satisfied with the quality of all of their products. They have miscellaneous items like knives, trinkets, robes, blankets etc in the middle of the store. You never know what you're going to find aside from the basic grocery store staples like milk, bread and eggs. Large wine and beer selection! Store is well stocked and store associates are continuously bringing additional items onto the sales floor. They do lose one star from their rating because I thought their cashier was not friendly. Their register is set up so they have a screen that is pointed towards the customer in the check out line. The buy one, get one offers weren't showing up on the screen so I asked her about it. The cashier got an attitude so I didn't appreciate it. She eventually recognized that the buy one, get one wasn't showing up. The shelves were disheveled and unorganized. The layout was choppy. This was my first visit to a LIDL store and I was not impressed. It was overwhelming. The fact that we found the moldy cheese left me concerned about their food safety and we left without purchasing anything. The ALDI's down the road is 100 times better. As of late all the cashier lines are closed unless you pay cash or debit, and per an associate, the reason is that this way more staff is "on the floor" - doing what, helping the customers?! No. The lady who informed me just stood there while the many lines formed. Super inconvenient and time consuming when you have a full cart. First and foremost I have to admit that I am a huge Publix fan but I really wanted to give Lidl a try and the benefit of the doubt but after my initial visits, there is no comparison. The first things you notice about Lidl is the shape of the store and the glass windows, very interesting. When you walk in you'll notice the bakery is front and center, well almost and then you realize that layout is very unfamiliar when compared with grocery chains in the United States. I took my time browsing the aisles and looking at products I've never heard of before but brought some of them just to try out. The prices are very reasonable considering the quality of products you're getting. I wasn't pleased btw with the quality of the products While browsing the store, the one major issue I took great exception with was the lack of customer service, no one to help me, no one to answer questions...no one to, well you get the point. As I stated in the beginning, I'm a huge Publix's fan and Lidl doesn't come close to a friendly customer service experience. Finally, be sure to bring your own shopping bags, otherwise you have to pay for them, which I assume is to help keep costs down. In closing, I really did want to like this place but with the lack of quality groceries, horrible customer service and the inconvenience of remembering to bring your own bags, I will not be going back. Definitely thought I already wrote a review for this place since clearly I've been here 3 times in the last week but continuing right along... this is my new favorite grocery store. Yes, it is like Aldi. Yes, it is cheap. Yes, you have to bring a bag or box or pay a couple pennies or so for one. But you won't find a better store with wide aisles, things consistently being refilled unless they are completely out and customer service that's personable. I'm right across the NC borderline so I find myself here often and there are even better deals through the middle of the week. Produce is fresh. Meat is priced to go and milk... half of gallon under a dollar. For someone who doesn't drink much milk except for with cereal I've finally found my middle ground. I keep a couple paper bags to go with me to go and all is well. All in all, two thumbs up over here read more

I was so excited and waiting with great anticipation for Lidl to open and maybe I'd built it up so much in my head that it didn't live up to my inner hype. It's definitely a winner when it comes to prices, especially on organic items but the offerings are super average, the store is a mish mosh and not laid out well but I guess that's the price you pay for lower prices. They have certainly driven the prices of certain items at Walmart and Aldi down and I am grateful for that. On several occasions I've gone and they've been sold out of basic produce items and once they only had skim milk available so I guess they're still working out inventory issues. The baked goods are decent and you certainly could get a good amount of stuff here at good prices but Aldi, though smaller has just about the same stuff and sometimes better, with a nicer store and a more navigable lay out. Where Lidl really misses the mark are their cashiers and floor attendants. Only once have I been and had a kind cashier. They usually seem annoyed and aggravated when their line has more than 3 people in it. One cashier was chomping on a piece of gum like it was her last meal and was clearly aggravated at the customers. When it was my turn, I tried to talk to her and lighten the mood but with little success. Anyhoo! I'm not saying don't go to Lidl because you will surely find some good deals. I will return but I know what items to go there for, like organic almond and soy milk, organic beans, milk, some cereals, some produce, their veggie burgers(yum) and a few spices. Parking and getting in and out are pretty easy as well. And don't forget to bring your bags though they do have them for purchase as well. That is all! Fist of all I'm laughing at some of the previous reviews---of course this isn't name brand stuff--it's called private label. What do u get with private label--reduced costs! I'm all about that. Great quality products, at significantly lower prices. The design and architecture of the store is on point! Flow through the store is very well thought out with elegant bakery display cases for example. You are greeted and taken well care of with a fabulous staff. I love the genuine care they exhibit when you ask for help. You can't beat the prices on hundreds of items. Fruit and vegetables are an incredible bargain! Combing through all the organic and unique European items was one of my favorite experiences. They definitely nail the phrase "rethink grocery". I was super excited about this Lidl opening up, as I had one near my home when I lived in Greenville. This Lidl location has a great open floor plan, plenty of carts and parking, a great selection of fresh baked items and produce. They offer a lot of organic or non-GMO items for a great price, plus they offer a great selection of cheeses (similar to Trader Joe's), meats, wine, and beer that are very affordable. You can get cage free brown eggs for under $3, a gallon of milk for a little over $1, a pound of carrots for $.48, bananas for $.29 a pound...what's not to love about that? The store is clean and you can readily tell which checkouts are open. It's similar to Aldi but has a more open set-up and better quality items. Their bakery deserves a mad shout-out for some tasty and cheap baked items. Their blueberry and black cherry jelly donuts are $.59 each and are very tasty. They have a big soft pretzel for $.59 which is also tasty and not overly salty. Their bread quality is good and pretty affordable compared to bakery items at Publix or HT. I have found a few items I'm absolutely dedicated to, and I really love that I can get fresh vegetables for such a bargain. Just remember to bring your own grocery bags (or you can pay a small amount for plastic bags, like Aldi) and be prepared to bag everything yourself. Still, I will happily do that to save some money on fresh produce. Now they just need to open a Lidl a little closer to my neighborhood... read more

I love that they also have organic items. I have the app so it's easy to keep up with their ads. Just one click and it goes to clipped coupons box. I Like this Store a Lot! I shop here from time to time and The Prices are Amazing! The selection is not what you would get at Harris Teeter and the ambience feels more comparable to what I imagine a Small Costco Or Sam Club would be like. With that said this is a fun place to try out new things and you will still see some name brand things here that you will recognize. It is always very clean when I visit and the few employees I come across are nice enough. You will be shocked when you see how much you save! Lidl has become one of my favorite places to shop. I love that they have a wide selection of organic options, including meat. The organics are SOO much cheaper than the bigger stores. They might not have everything needed for an entire week's grocery list, but have most everything and at great prices. They also have a good selection of craft beer and wine with cheaper prices than other stores. Sometimes it can get a little busy and can get a little congested in the tight spaces, so we've learned to go at certain times in order to avoid the crowds. The lines can also get backed up, but the cashiers are pretty quick and help keep things moving. read more

Great grocery store if you come at the right time. Sunday afternoons are great because they actually have stuff in stock but on Fridays it's a whole other story. Barely any produce, meat is picked through and just a poor selection all around. Cashiers are so focused on being fast that they forget to be kind. This is my new favorite grocery store. They just remodeled. They have an aisle for the organic food now. Before, you had to search for the organic items that were beside the regular items. The aisles are large enough to walk around carts. There are always sales. The sales items change weekly. You do not need to bring a quarter for a shopping cart, like you do at Aldi. The bakery always smells amazing. The cookies and donuts are good. I have not tried bread from the bakery. The only thing that I did not like is the milk. It had a weird aftertaste. read more

Just stopped in to this new store. I was stoked To walk around and find some of my favorites highly discounted. Random clothes in the middle of store. I got two blouses for $18. Chia seeds for $2. Quinoa for $2. And best of all really cheap wine. Produce Looks good as far as I could tell and good Looking bread. Also they carry some European chocolates. I thought they would have a bigger German selection but it seems catered to Americans. Some European flours would be neat. Though---The only issue is when I went to check out the cashier service was atrocious. No hello. No thanks. Just some grunts. Kind Of ruined it for me. I was the only person in the store and the cashier just stared at me while I loaded fifty Items into my cart. I know the Schtick is to bag your owns groceries (bags cost extra) but if you are standing there with nothing to do, why not assist? I wanted to like this place but too many strikes against it. My usual go to is TJs, with HT and Publix filling in the gaps. I'm a transplanted "Cali girl" though. 1. Do not expect any sort of customer service while shopping. The only places I saw employees was at the register and behind the various departments like bakery. In fact I didn't see many people stocking shelves. And there was no one to help if you had questions while shopping around the store. 2. I've gone twice and find the shelves rather bare on the fresh food side (produces, dairy, etc). However the general goods (clothes, decorations) were full. 3. I tried about 15 store products and only one beat TJs or name brand. 4. Be VERY careful of their meat. Neither the beef nor the fish looked good at all, most of it actually looked spoiled. Finally I found some chicken wings that looked pretty decent and decided to try those. Maybe I should've heeded the fact that the guy in front of me at checkout was returning chicken that was spoiled, but I figure I could smell it and see if it was OK. So the next night I made chicken wings and wouldn't you know both me and my son got sick from it. Then a few days later I was speaking to a neighbor about the store and she mentioned that she had bought spoiled meat there she threw out. Ok three strikes on the meat, IMO. 5. Is this a grocery store or dry goods store? At least at Target or Walmart you know what they are, this place has a feel like they don't even know what they're trying to be. I'll be back to stock up on the one item that my son really liked (waffle mix). Visited here for the first time today. I've seen it described as somewhere between Aldi and Trader Joe's. I'd say it's far closer to Aldi than the much superior Trader Joe's. It was basically the same kinds of items at the same prices and feel as Aldi, with the exception of the bakery and larger alcohol selection. The one item I noticed that was appreciably cheaper was milk, which was around $1 for a gallon and 70 cents for half a gallon. I assume that's a loss leader, intended to make you walk all the way to the back of the store, passing by all of the other items that are basically just clones of Aldi ones. All in all, it was just ok, not really warranting a farther drive if you live closer to and Aldi (as I do). What really turned me off was the very long checkout lines; I've never seen lines this long or slow at either Aldi or TJ's. It took nearly a quarter of an hour for me to check out with just a small number of items (enough to fit into one bag with room to spare). When walking out, I noticed that the exterior trash can was so full that a large pile of trash had started accumulating around it; some probably fell out of the overly-full trash can, but my guess is that some customers just threw trash on the ground. It was a disgusting mess. They are clearly understaffed if they cannot even clean out the trash cans and allow a pile of waste to accumulate right at the entryway I just now opened the first item, which was a bag of parmesean pita chips. Aldi makes exactly the same product, but Lidl's tastes much more fake, and it's not as crispy--almost moist; I don't like it at all. If this is any indication of the other items I bought, I don't see a reason to return. The employees at the store seemed nice, but that doesn't make up for the shortcomings. read more

I usually love going here. They have great imitations of major brand food and drinks that are better than the real thing. Cheetos, Girl Scout Samoa's, Doritos - all great and don't have the chemical aftertaste major brands have. Everything is super affordable here, and even have a bunch of gluten free items. Only negative is once the traffic on 521 gets going, it's almost impossible to make that left out of the lot. read more

I've been hearing about lidl for months now. Yesterday I decided to jump in. I drove 10 miles to a grocery store. When we first enter the bakery is a welcomed sight. I though "this is lovely". But as I walked down the aisles I felt, "They sell a whole lot of nothing". The prices were just ok compared to ALDI, whom I believe is who they are coming for. The produce section I felt was very small. My wife is celiac, so Gluten Free items are a must, which they did have, but sadly, not clearly marked. Simply using a hi-liter to set the GF sign apart would have been a nice touch. There's a nice wine and beer section, but it wasn't enough to change my opinion. The store was large, clean and organized and the announcements did make me feel like I was in europe for a moment. If it were closer, I would consider giving it another try. But as it stands, we won't be back. BTW, we did still spend $92 on 30 items and still had to go to Aldi to finish the shopping. read more

The store is so awesome it's just like all these but it has a thousand more options to choose from I Love the fresh baked goods and then you can weigh them and scale them get your own sticker so you can just move through the checkout line even the faster they have a lot more organic vegetables and spices in other to choose from so Lidls gets a thumbs-up from me. Sadly the prices are still the same as not a little bit higher on some things I guess it's the price you gotta pay another bonus you do not have to put a quarter in the cart. Unfortunately that also leave room for ignorant people to leave Luggage in the middle of the store and in the middle of the parking lot which drafted prices so there you have it Lidls in a nutshell. read more

I don't fully comprehend this store. It feels like the Ikea of food products. Been here a few times and each time, the bakery, egg, and dairy sections are almost empty. I see a few products I could buy e.g. chocolate, coffee, cheese, Jam, and wine (awesome wine selection with great prices) but I would never but meat or vegetables here. I find the middle row with random items i.e. leather jackets, air compressors, socks, etc,. Very out of place. read more

Awesome store , prices are very cheap compared with other grocery stores. The location is great. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was because this is my now on fave grocery store and every time I go it seems that the produce department don't have enough, Always a few of fresh produce. I asked one of the employees for tomatoes and they told me they don't had anymore??? Really?? Well other than that I had a good experience in the store. I would definitely continue going there. But please have more produce in stock available. read more
