This food especially the bakery made me cry down my leg I would personally sell my family to buy more baked goods

Really struggles with operations and identity, it seems. I love Lidl in Germany: good selection & fast checkouts. Not so much in Brooklyn. Checkouts are slow, and self checkout machines are plagued by glitches or outright broken. Their selection seems to be geared towards some generic suburban market. In NYC, you have to sell onions individually. You cannot make people buy 1lb bags. This weird bulk approach applies to many of their products, and it's just not suited to places where household size is small, and people live in small apartments with limited storage space. Moreover, much of their product selection feels like it's based on market research from 1999 and was never updated. There is very little in terms of vegetarian or vegan options, for example (other than the aforementioned bulk produce). Lastly, I'd love if they had more of the things that you can only get in German Lidls, such as cheap bread spreads (tuna salad, tomato/basil, etc). That would be a real differentiator. They do some of this around Xmas with their sweets (Stollen, Lebkuchen, etc) but not with everyday items. read more

Have been to this Lidl location twice, and have only purchased baked items located on the first level of the store. The bakery section is a good size yet the options are not as vast as I'd like it to be yet the items purchased have always been great. The freshly baked dinner rolls and pastry items are delicious. The bakery area only had two available self-service kiosks so the line for checking out was long. This area of the store seems clean the two times I've visited, and hope it remains that way. read more

If I could it would be zero!!!! I had a really disappointing experience at this Lidl. I picked up an item that was clearly marked at a lower price on the shelf, but when it rang up higher at the register, the staff refused to honor the price that was displayed. Instead of trying to resolve the issue or even showing basic customer service, the manager acted like it was an inconvenience just to ask about it and wanted me to call corporate. There was no effort to check the shelf tag, or accommodate the mistake. Unfortunately, that didn't happen here. The interaction felt dismissive and unhelpful, which made the whole shopping trip frustrating. I like Lidl for the prices and selection, but experiences like this make me think twice about coming back. read more

This was my first visit to a Lidl. (I am a big Aldi's fan.) One thing that surprised me was the bakery because you can get croissants for $0.49 cents each. That is unreal! On the 2nd floor is where the majority of grocery products are. Aisles were fully stocked and had enough variety to keep it interesting. Be warned that it's mostly self checkout with one staff member managing both the self checkout and in person checkout lanes. read more

Lidl isn't your typical grocery store and that's kind of the whole point. They don't carry a lot of the usual big-name brands because they focus heavily on their own private-label products. Some people complain about that, but honestly, that's why the prices are so good. You'll still find a few familiar brands, but most of the store is quality alternatives at much lower prices. Their frozen seafood section is surprisingly good with great variety and very affordable. The crab cakes and scallops are delicious and easy to prepare, especially for the price. Another hidden gem is their seasoning aisle. You can find really good spices and blends for as low as 79 cents, which is a steal compared to other grocery stores. With food prices constantly going up and grocery shopping getting more expensive by the week, Lidl is absolutely worth adding to your rotation. If you shop smart, you can catch some really solid deals and walk out with quality food without blowing your budget. read more

In order to get a cart you have to enter the store, then exit past the cashiers, then go back past the cashiers with your cart. All this just to shop. It looks like they have put up some temporary barriers toward the entrance area to deter theft. They need to figure out how to get the carts where you enter like any normal store. Plus when I was being checked out the one human cashier announced he was closing and everyone else would have to use auto check. This chain is rapidly declining. I'm not seeing much intelligence being displayed here. read more

I was in the area today and since I needed paper napkins and garlic, I decided to drop in to check it out. Upon first impression, many products were of unknown brands. There were some good finds but this store isn't my cup of tea. The layout seemed disorderly as well. I usually shop at Whole Foods, Trader Joe's or Union Market. I ended up making a purchase of napkins, garlic and a box of Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie Herbal tea. That was it and can't go wrong with such items. Wanted to check out the store since I was on Fulton Street. Pretty sure I won't be back. read more

I'd been seeing signs for Lidl "Coming soon!" over the past year in various locations around NYC - I thought it was funny that some of the stores were opening very close to where there was a Trader Joe's and/or Target. I thought it was intentional for the competition but maybe not. I guess they have to open where they can find a convenient storefront space. (Also the one on 5th Avenue in Park Slope is not near a Trader Joe's - or a Target) Anyway, the Fulton Street store was the first one that I actually tried so I thought I'd give it a review! The store layout is a little unusual IMO, with the bakery section downstairs and the rest of the grocery store upstairs. Escalators make everything pretty convenient though. It does seem upstairs you have to kind of wander around to find everything, it was a bit like "Wait I know I saw the produce section a moment ago, where did it go." Some pros: they have a lot of inexpensive items - snacks, yogurt, peanut butter, a lot of the toiletries and paper products are inexpensive too. The most interesting aisle is probably the one where they have all the seasonal goodies: right now lots of marzipan and butter stollen (in various sizes), chocolate-gingerbread cookies, etc. As for the bakery section downstairs, I would prefer that it was upstairs with the rest of the store, but it seemed easy enough to navigate it and choose things, and the day I went there was a really nice, helpful guy working down there. Upstairs there was a cashier as well as self-serve stations. The day I went I needed a paper bag and wasn't sure if I could get it at the self-serve area so I waited for the cashier. They also have bathrooms upstairs which is convenient (the sign says you must have a valid receipt to use the restroom - I did, but the day I was there no one was checking to see if you had a receipt or not). This store is only a few minutes walk from the Citypoint Trader Joe's & Target but maybe that's good! If you want something and one store doesn't have it, another store likely will. (And there's also Brooklyn Fare just a few minutes away from Lidl) read more

I love that NYC is getting more Lidl locations, and this one is in a great spot right across from City Point, so I can fill in the gaps for things Trader Joe's doesn't sell. Two floors, with bakery and beverages downstairs for easy grab-and-go, and the rest of the groceries upstairs. When I stopped by, it wasn't too crowded in the aisles, and the shelves were pretty well-stocked (other than the items in the sales circular). Prices are affordable. I was already a rewards member from going to the Lidl in SI, but would recommend signing up before going for rewards, discounts, and the yearly birthday treat. It's laughable how bad this store is, especially with the well-run location in Park Slope so nearby. Jus filthy all the time and maybe half of the self checkouts open (if any at all). The icing on the cake is the fact that instead of fixing the floor near the refrigerated section -- which has been busted since opening -- they just put down a cheap throw rig, which is now of course disgusting as well. read more

I shopped at the new Park Slope Lidl. Prices are very low and the merchandise appears to be high quality--especially the baked goods. The negatives are: 1. They don't carry many products I use, such as alcohol free beer. 2..The self service checkout is very clunky. Fortunately there's a very helpful employee for assistance. You're practically forced yo use self checkout because there's only one cashier and the line is very long 3. Parking is VERY inconvenient. It's free (up to 90 minutes) but two blocks away. Worse there's no safe pathway from the parking garage to the store. The sidewalk outside the garage is completely blocked by garbage dumpsters forcing customers into the roadway, which was very icy today. I wouldn't have been able to make it back to my car carrying multiple heavy grocery bags had not a passerby assisted me. That being said I DO intend to return to Lidl. read more

I usually stop by this location after work.To pick up different things that I need for home.It's a large layout with the bakery downstairs and the rest of the shopping upstairs.It's a little inconvenient for people with disabilities, but they do have a motorized cart for those who need it. read more

An excellent addition especially with Trader Joe's and Target nearby. The bakery is at the lowest level and the food on the second. I thought it would be very crowded since it just opened recently but it was a smooth experience. I'll definitely be back because of the unbeatable prices! read more

Lidl customer service & security are just plain classless! I purchased three butter croissants for $1.47 with a debit card, on leaving the store the cashier said he noticed that I didn't pay for my item, I said excuse me. He didn't ask to see my receipt or anything, both him & the security. Two cashier came up to me they didn't take the time to ask what happened, they all started running there mouth, still no one ask to see my receipt, I told her not to touch me that's assault. Ok. It is not the absolute train wreck of a clown show that aldi is but it has America in decline characteristics. It's decently tho not fully stocked. Has the same one cashier no support staff system aldi has. The bakery is cheap the croissants are ok especially if you toast them first. It has some european imports you might not find at the local grocer. read more

Great items for a decent price. However, being profiled and followed throughout the store has become routine. I understand theft is a problem in NYC but do not generalize black people as suspects when they are simply shopping and existing as the next person. I like the store but every time I shop there the store is always out of reusable bags. It's a lot of people that shop every day , all day downtown Brooklyn. The store should never run out , especially early in the afternoon. read more
