I was excited about bringing my husband here for his birthday, June 14. We wanted to go to a lounge because of the closing time. We are not from the area and found this place through google so this was our first visit. We arrived 5 minutes before 9. The setting of the lounge was beautiful and it seemed as it was a really nice chill spot. As we walked in, I asked the server do we just seat ourselves. She proceeded with yes. We found an area that was opened for seating and sat down by 9. For 35 minutes, no one had approached our table for any services so we called over to the bartender to ask could we put our order in. As we put our order in, we watched others who came in after us get served but no one had still come to check and acknowledge our existence. We continued to wait. Almost 10pm and our order was finally brought to us. We left around 10:45pm and we still didn't have "Hey, how are you? Is there anything you need? Can I get you something?" or anything. The food was pretty much mediocre and the drinks were bland. I'm not sure if it was just this particular night but it definitely wasn't a good impression. read more

OH MY GOD! The roaches, there were roaches crawling everywhere, all over the bar, all over the glasses that the bartender and the servers were using. the bartender was just casually watching them. The servers and the manager kept bringing dirty dishes to the bar and they were piling up, the bartender or manager did not seem to be concerned, there were roaches crawling all over the dirty glasses. We were going to sit at the bar top but it looked like it had not been wiped down or cleaned in weeks, the manager seemed clueless about anything but flirting. My date and I left because there was no way were we going to eat somewhere that dirty. We came in about 7:00 on a week night so it wasn't like it was a typical time that you would expect the restaurant to be busy, and there was not that many tables with people, but we wanted to sit at the bar, but like i said, it was dirty, and the pile of dishes and the roaches... OH MY GOD the roaches, my date couldn't do it, I couldn't do it, just imagining a roach crawling through a glass and then the bartender pouring a drink into it, or having a roach crawl into my glass or my food, we could not do it. Just so dirty, obviously a historic place that is moving past its prime. read more

Stopped by Library Lounge At Fairview Inn last night for cocktails and dinner. Our waiter Blake was great. I ordered the flatbread pizza of the day and the portabella fries. After 30 minutes or so of waiting Blake informs us that there's a 20 top and that's why it was taking so long. Shortly after my flatbread comes out. About 20 minutes later my portabella fries come out. They were not good. Very doughy and greasy. Think hush puppies, Captain D's fish, corn dogs from the fair. Blake comes back and ask if I'm enjoying them. I look and him and smiles and he politely takes them away. My guest and I continue to chat and enjoy our time. When Blake brings the tickets he says, "I asked my manager to take the portabella fries off, but he said no because there was nothing wrong with them." I said well not only were they not good but they took almost 50 minutes to come out. I ask to speak with the manager--Peter. Peter arrives and lets me know he's not the manager that he is the owner. I share with him my experience with the portabella fries and that it took at least 50 minutes for them to come out. He tells me that's not true because he was in the kitchen. Blake comes back out and shares that the fries came out 20 minutes after the pizza (which were both ordered together). So I respond, sir it took 30 minutes for the pizza and extra 20 minutes for the fries, so yes that was 50 minutes. I told him if I had it I had to pay for the fries, I definitely would not be coming back and I would leave reviews about my experience and his rudeness. He looked at me and said I'm fine with that and walked away. I paid my ticket. Left a nice tip for Blake, but The Liberary at Fairview Inn never has to worry about me coming back. read more

You could accuse me of being a bit partial to the Library Lounge since it's just mere blocks from my house, but I swear I'd trek across town to hang out here. As much as I love a good rowdy, bro night at the crowded bar every now and then, most nights I just want to drink good cocktails, craft beers or a glass of wine with my friends in a place where we can hear ourselves talk and think. For a chill, cool night, the Library Lounge is your place. The atmosphere is the best part-- located inside the Fairview Inn's library, you'll sit in plush, comfy chairs surrounded by walls and walls of books, curated to be chock-full of Mississippi authors. As a book nerd and recovering English major, this place is the dreamiest for me. I basically turn into Belle from Beauty and the Beast, grabbing books off the shelf and proclaiming, "This one's my favorite!" (I'm only half joking, sorry.) The service here is super friendly. It's pretty small bar and sometimes it gets a little crowded (especially during trivia on Tuesday nights, which is super fun!) but the wait staff is always quick and very nice. The cocktails are delicious, and many of them are named after Mississippi writers or Jackson neighborhoods. I love the Eudora Welty! They've also got one of the best deals in town on pitchers of beer, so it's a great place to go with a group of friends. In the front room, there's comfy chairs and a small bar. In the second room, you'll find taller tables with bar stools as well as televisions where you can watch whatever game is on. The patio here is truly one of the best in town. Enclosed by gorgeous magnolia trees, it's scenic and serene with plenty of seating and lighting. On balmy summer nights, you really can't beat it! read more

Being back in Jackson and now living in Bellhaven, I heard that this place was pretty cool so I decided to have a friend meet me a few weeks back to check it out. Last night I was waiting for the same friend and decided to pop in to have a glass of wine as they are one of the few places that allows dogs on their patios in Jackson. I have to say I really like this place. Twice now I've had great service and felt immediately welcomed. The first time the bar was pretty dead at first but later a few people came in to give it more life. I was able to really get to know the bartender and server since it was so quiet. It's an intimate setting so it was easy to chat freely without yelling. We ordered a few appetizers and eventually went to 1908 for dinner. Last night it was much much busier and apparently they have trivia on Wednesday, which I'm definitely keeping in mind for later weeks. This time they actually let me keep my small dog on the chair with me inside so I was able to enjoy a few glasses of wine in comfort though their patio is fabulous. Once again I got to know the bartender who was the same one from before. William is super friendly, knowledgable, and a great bartender. I was also able to get to know a few other patrons, which always makes for a fun night. The place is small as it's the old Library from the original mansion before it was an inn. There is a dark, leather, intimate feeling about the place. They have a great patio right outside with big trees and a fire pit. We frequent the Library Lounge for cocktails and trivia on Tuesday nights. We love this local hangout. The Library Lounge is located in the historic Fairview Inn. I love the decor of the lounge, dark wood, lots of stacked books on shelves, and the tribute to all the Mississippi authors. The lounge/seating areas are comfortable and cozy and can accommodate a date night or a round with friends. They also have outdoor seating under a beautiful old magnolia tree with hanging zig zagging cafe lights. Like I mentioned above, we come here almost every Tuesday night for trivia which is a popular event at the lodge. It's super fun and the winners get a giftcard to the Fairview Inn. The waitstaff is extremely friendly and will help you pick out what you are looking for. They have an extensive list of wines and champagnes. You can do a flight which is awesome because they give you generous pours. They also have local beers on tap, a fun cocktail list, and a drink of the day. As for the food, the Library Lounge is great for bar snacks. I have had the French fries and their chips and dip. I have also had the burger which was pretty good but not the best I've ever had. The menu is good, but not great, but you come here to enjoy a drink more than you would come here to eat. Overall, I really enjoy the Library Lounge! First time a group went it was fabulous. Themed drinks are the novelty of the setting. It's atmosphere of familiar faces and locals mixed with guests mingling. Nice service staff. The third time for the same group was less novel and staff less helpful and not pleasant. Service is everything! Yes we will go again however to recommend probably not. read more

I love this place. They have a nice bar menu with some yummy vegetarian items. Their advertised cocktails are stiff and varied, and the bartender has also made off-menu recommendations that I enjoyed. The atmosphere is really classy, with muted lighting, and laid back. They played back-to-back Radiohead songs the first two nights we were there, weeks apart. There's decent, comfortable seating with big, deep chairs, and a patio. Nightcaps with friends. Wow! This was amazing! The place was jam packed with a wedding party that was going on. We didn't care it looked like fun! We ordered several drinks and they were all AMAZING! Mint Juleps were so tasty and looked just like a beautiful snow cone.! Packed with flavor. Just for the record, they are FAR SUPERIOR to the ones I had at the kentucky Derby, which I only thought were so so. We also had a terrific Old Fashioned. It is a little pricey for the cocktails you get. The atmosphere is amazing, but unfortunately it fills up pretty quickly and that can ruin the intimacy. The three stars is really an average of my experiences there, but if you catch it at the right time, it is easily four or five stars. Stop here after work for a nice drink and you won't regret it. The crowd is quiet then and you can unwind in a nice atmosphere. Some people are into trivia here but for me that just ruins the experience. The server is way overworked then and you can't actually enjoy the place itself. Staff is amazing though! I do not think there is any bar with better staff in Jackson. read more

I think the Library Lounge is a great place to hangout and have a drink with your friends. I usually go on Tuesdays when they have trivia. It starts at 7 so we get there to get a good seat at 6:30. There's usually a pretty big crowd. The bartenders are sweet and have helped us decide what drink we want. The food is good too. This place is absolutely amazing. I love to go here and get a drink in a quiet but yet fun atmosphere. This is the perfect location to sit down and have some great food along with your beverage of choice. You won't find a more intimate setting to have a conversation. When the weather is nice the outside patio area phenomenal. I haven't had a single bad beverage or food item here. The Library Lounge drinks are very pricey- but they drinks are crafted wonderfully. The atmosphere is a nice setting if you are a writer looking for inspiration. The outside patio area is a nice mood area. Its very antebellum stylized. It has the Southern charm of an old historical hotel. The bartenders have a pretty good knowledge of the various drinks they serve and are able to customize your drink and offer suggestions if you need. They have a great flatbread pizza as well. The only downside is what I've noticed several people mention0 the hours are a bit sporadic and inconsistent. If you want a old South feel for a visiting friend, I'd suggest grabbing drinks there. I am sure they will enjoy the experience. I must mention the decor. They have bookcases surrounding the main bar area. Also they highlight Mississippi authors daily in their drink specials. read more

Although I frequent the Library because of it's unique atmosphere, I have had several less than satisfactory experiences. I love having a bar in my neighborhood that I can walk to and have a wine flight or a neighborhood cocktail. It's normally a quiet environment to enjoy with friends. However, several times I have had the staff cut off the music or blow out all the candles and begin closing up before all the guests have left. It is extremely uncomfortable when there are only two people (a friend and me) left in the bar at 9:05pm and it's dead quiet. The feel you get is, "Leave please." If the hours were explicit, I would understand this - however the website states open 4pm - Late, leaving the staff the ability to close down really whenever they would like to. Additionally, I came after an instagram posting of a new "Wine down Wednesday," and the staff wasn't even aware of the deal that was posted. Though the waitress said she would give us the deal, she made it clear that she wasn't aware of it and even loudly asked the bartender if he knew about it. It seemed unprofessional to discuss/complain about this with customers in ear shot. I keep returning to the Library because it's convenient and the drinks are tasty - but, I really wish the staff loved the atmosphere as much as I did. read more

My wife and I eat out 2-4 days a week and are not shy about spending $$ because we appreciate fine food and beverage! I have worked in the industry for almost 20 years as a General manager and above and I have to say that after my 2nd visit here I am quite disappointed! Everything is rushed and just kind of sloppy! $24 for the cheese and charcuterie board which is online with most of the finer restaurants in town but it's just sloppy! The Library is a fun atmosphere and they have great drinks, but 2 things- 1) there are roaches EVERYWHERE outside. It's almost gross. 2) we got there at 11pm for drinks. The waitress said it was last call. I asked what time they closed and she said it's whenever the bartender calls it and that there wasn't a set closing time. Their Facebook page says that they close at approximately 1am, which is very different from 11:30. As a consumer, this deters me from wanting to go here for drinks because I never know if they will be open. read more

This venue has a fantastic ambiance. The prices are high, but the food and drinks are worth it. It made for a wonderful date night that my wife and I will look fondly in for years to come. Apparently our money and presence were not welcome here. My friends and I were in town celebrating a bachelorette weekend and heard great things about the Library Lounge. However, when we arrived around 10PM, we were told that they had just done last call and were already closed. The not-so-polite greeting without a salutation from the attendant seemed suspect because proceeded to his patio table to continue to entertain guests who were welcome. We were the only ones who weren't seated or served while others had freshly poured drinks and continued to enjoy the indoor or patio seating. I suppose the overt stares from other patrons (who were exempt from the "closing" time) should have been our first red flag. As we filed out one by one with many onlookers but no acknowledgement, it was reminiscent of times when people of color (i.e., the entire bacholorette party) were denied service for one reason, and one reason only. read more

Service is horrible. After sitting for over 5 minutes, we overheard the two waitresses discussing who would have to wait our table. Sitting close to the bar, the drinks were prepared quickly and put up on the bar to be sent out, but we're there for almost 5 minutes (I started timing because of the time it took for them just to come to us initially). The drinks were great except for the Moscow Mule my wife ordered. It tasted as though the ginger beer was flat or old or the cocktail wasn't complete. Again, the service was very poor and it has been every time we go. This time was exceptionally worse though. For the prices that this establishment charges, I expect better service. Unfortunately, probably won't be going back as the service continues to go down. read more
