Levi Design Build - constant delays 380 days!! - General Contractors Near Me - Canoga Park, California

worked with them a few years ago On a major remodeling project. terrible! waste of my time and money

Do not give these people your money. They talk a good talk, but do not finish the job they are paid to do. I am out about $7,000 for plans I hired them to do. With a lot of pushing, they did do the initial plans for submission to the city. The city rejected the plans for deficiencies. Our contract included them making the corrections required by the city, but Levi Design is now "too busy" to do the corrections. It's been about seven months, and they won't return phone calls or emails. I now find myself in the position of having to hire someone else to do the job right and file a lawsuit against this contractor. Don't give these people your money. read more

This is the first review that I have written about a business ever. However, I decided that it was necessary to tell my story to warn and keep people from doing business with this company. Don't waste your money, save your selves the headaches, and know that dealing with staff from this company is a complete waste of time. It is going to be four years since I hired Levi Design Build to do some architectural drawings for an ADU. At first, as described in other reviews, Avi Levi was responsive and everything seemed to be going okay. However, after a while, I noticed that no progress was being made on my project. All I was told that the city had asked for changes and that staff from Levi Design Build would be making the corrections and resubmitting the drawings. Time passed and I did no get any updates on the status of my project. Communication completely stopped and now it has been close to four years and my architectural drawings have not been completed. I asked for a refund of $2,000 which is what I had paid the company and of course, I did not hear anything back. Trust me when I tell you that their customer service is terrible, you run the risk of losing money, and your project will not get finished. I'm a veteran, work in a police department, and have serviced people for a living. So for me to get taken advantage of has not been pleasant but I'm not giving up on getting my money back. I hope this company does right and refunds me what I paid for work that was not completed. But if not, at least I hope that through this review others will stop themselves from doing business with Levi Design Build. read more

Do not ever, EVER hire this company. Let me start out with on the 3rd submission to have permits approved, they submitted the ROUGH DRAFT to the citu! Nothing I asked for was there, doors were removed, windows removed, the sliding door on the wrong side of the house, even a ceiling fan was removed. I was not on the city platform so I had no idea this happened until we started building. I asked why the door was on the wrong side and we noticed the magnitude of what happened. I was never asked for these huge changes. The City confirmed they never asked for these changes. Yet Levi Design would not admit they really screwed up. Add that it took them 2 years to get thru permitting because when there were significant delays they refused to make simple phone calls to ask for an update. They said they were not expediters. Every construction company that bid on the project said they had never heard of this kind of massive mistake before and they all said Levi Design should cover the costs to remedy but nope. He wont even admit they did anything wrong. We went from May to November with no response from the City and they finally called at my plea request and found out the plan checker quit and it had been sitting there for half a year! DO NOT HIRE THEM. They never responded, they ghosted me all the time, and they refused to check on something when it wasn't the normal time to get something done. Now my ADU's bedroom slider looks directly into my livingroom! Whatever they reply to this is going to be excuses. I am taking them to court over this fiasco. I mean, they didn't even ask me if I wanted to match my home (HOA requirement) so they slapped stucco on it. I had to ask the inspector if I could add siding as required to match the house. They submitted the approved plans twice snd then for no explainable reason, submitted the unapproved rough draft. At one point, I was told I had to lose a window and cover the main house with a fire wall. I asked why 100 times and wanted to see code for this. Then, when the outline of the house was on the ground, Levi Design had put the ADU less than 8 feet from the main house, with the ADU porch in my sidewalk to the main house! I had to go back to Levi Design to move the house as they left miles of empty space on the other side near the fence. When I asked them why they did that, I was told they don't measure the property and saved me $1000 on a survey. A. That's not you to decide. B. Your project manager and architect were out here MEASURING THE PROPERTY! Their design flaw would have cost me over $10k for the firewall and to lose a whole window in my house, new siding, drywall, etc. had I not stood up for myself. Do not hire. If they had any sense of good business skills they would have admitted they screwed up but they blamed everyone else. I approved changes they needed at the 11th hour and they claim that was me approving to change the entirety of the house. I cry when I look into the ADU bedroom from my house. Do not hire Levi Design. read more

Levi Design Build - My view of the ADU bedroom from my livingroom. That was supposed to be a wall for privacy! - General Contractors Near Me - Canoga Park, California

nothing good to say - overall bad design and services - stay away - none responsive poor coordination

I contracted Levi Design to design and get permits for an ADU I wanted to build on my property. I signed an agreement with Levi Design on June 3, 2022, and was told that their portion of the work would take two to three months. There were initial delays with the designer but I decided to keep working with the company because they did a good job of designing a floor plan that fit what I was looking for. Unfortunately, Levi Design continued to have delays and issues going forward. Communication was consistently poor after the very initial work with the designer. Often taking weeks and multiple emails/calls to get a response to a question or concern. They often did not catch when the city posted a response to a submission for weeks or more. Work was often completed weeks after they said it would be ready. Documents had many errors, and I had to send plans to my contractor multiple times to help me find issues before it was sent to the city. Levi Design also failed to address all the notes made by the city before resubmitting documents for review. They also said they submitted documents for plan review, but did not actually do that till four months later. At this point I am at a loss for what to do. Only counting the time Levi Design took to complete their own work is about ten months on a job they said would take two to three months. We are over a year and a half from the date I signed the contract and still do not have a permit. The delays caused by working with Levi Design have been incredibly expensive. My hope is that by writing this review I can get a little more visibility on the issues I have been consistently having. I would love to update this review if the situation improves, and I finally have my permits. A timeline for those interested: Eventually documents were ready in August 2022 to submit to the city planning department. After months and being told the plan checker was still reviewing I learned in December 2022 that there needed to be a handful of changes to the cover sheet. The problem with this is the city has no record of submission in August 2022 for a plan checker; only one on December 19 2022. That was also the first time that I had to pay a fee for the city, due for plan checks. I asked Levi Design for the August Document number but they never provided it. Until they do, it seems that they did not submit documents for plan review until months after they said they had. On Dec 20, 2022, one day after the planning department received the submission it was approved. On January 9, 2023 we had a submission to the Building department. They completed their review ten days later on January 19th and posted notes. Levi Design was not ready to resubmit the plans until Feb 28, 2023 over a month later. The city completed their review and posted notes three days later on March 2nd 2023 Levi Design was not ready to resubmit the plans until April 6, 2023, over a month later. This submission the city dropped the ball, they did not complete the review until July 28, 2023. I had to take time off from work to go into city hall and ask about the submission. When I went, they told me that this submission was forgotten and that they would expedite the process. However, during this time I was asking the team at Levi Design what was taking so long. They said they followed up but it does not seem like they did. Or for whatever reason the city did not check the plan submission until I went in to address it. Levi Design submitted quickly after that on August 8, 2023. The city completed the review August 21, 2023 and posted notes. We resubmitted December 12 2023. This long delay was in part because for the first time contractors besides Levi Design were involved and made up about three months of the time between submissions as they completed their work. Only about a month was waiting for Levi Design to do their portion. The city responded on December 19, 2023 and posted notes. And that brings us to tonight Jan 4 2024, where I was told that Levi Design has not yet reviewed the notes. Over two weeks later. read more

In reference to Samantha L's comment on my post below: My family had nothing to do with you being sued by another client and being unable to start construction. Which you conveniently revealed to us THE SAME DAY we finally received permits. We never disengaged from contract--that is false. You could not fulfill your obligation. We hired you to do DESIGN AND BUILD--not pay you thousands of dollars for a computer program to sketch us a picture and get us permits and shake us to another contractor. If we would have known that at some point, outside events forced you to be unable to finish the work contracted, and then we would not be refunded for payments made in good faith--we would never have signed a contract. We were not interested in partial pay for an unfinished job. We trusted you guys. But sure--we will take our plans next week. With them, please also add the cash payment awarded to us by the Van Nuys Court when they found in our favor. read more

We know about Levi Construction through friends and hired them for a complete remodel of our kitchen, guest bath and family room, and to have them install oak hardwood floors throughout. We didn't know our project was going to require architectural plans so using a design/build firm was not our original plan. Thankfully Levi was able to take care of everything so it made it a lot easier on us and saved us time in having to find a designer and architect. Each person involved was very nice and professional. Eti has incredible design talent and delivered exactly what we asked for, while Avi was very sensitive to our construction needs and easy to work with. We met regularly to get updates on the project and address any issues that came up. Overall we had a great experience and it was all well worth it. We would recommend Levi Construction and will hire them again. read more

We met Avi, owner of Levi construction at a housewarming party here in Santa Monica out of all places! We were looking to hire a contractor to completely re-do our kitchen, dining room, bathrooms and flooring. We had to take down a couple walls to open up the space, move exterior door and add a bay window, we installed custom kitchen cabinets, granite counter tops, fixtures, recessed lighting, appliances and back splash. Both bathrooms were completely gutted and remodeled and we implemented some of colors and tile from the kitchen. We did tile and engineered wood flooring throughout the house and as the project went along we decided to do new windows as well. This was a major project and after hearing many horror stories and interviewing several contractors, we decided to go with Levi Construction. Avi was honest and upfront about everything, we loved their work and they were priced properly. Their designer really helped us define our style and designed our bathrooms and kitchen. The project was a bit over budget due to some changes we made and like with any major project we had a few hiccups that changed some things but Avi and his team took care of everything and where very professional. Even with the changes, the project was finished before the deadline. It was very important stayed within our time frame, as we had family coming from out of town. Will definitely use them for any future projects!! read more

Levi came in at more than double the cost of a competitor to design & submit plans for a soft-story seismic retrofit. Will also charge $600 more to resubmit plans if the City asks for corrections. No thanks! read more

We spent a great amount of time trying to find the right design/build contractor to add one bathroom, renovate the master bath, new kitchen and flooring. Avi and his team did a spectacular job. There is nothing like having a clean job site and they were on top of it all throughout the project. Everyone from their designer and builders were very personable and they were a pleasure to have around. A few different times there was extra work to be done and some of those times we were not charged. They over delivered every time and we are very satisfied and happy with the final outcome. read more

We used Levi construction to remodel our master and guest bathrooms in our condo. We found them through a family member who had their kitchen remodeled by them and highly recommended them. I saw pictures of their work and thought they were going to be expensive but they worked with our budget. We met with Avi a few times, he even took me to one of his current projects where I was able to see how they work and I was amazed at how clean everything was always kept. We finally pulled the trigger and hired them to remodel our master bath and upgrade the guest bath. They were by far the best contractor I've worked with. Not only did we get the bathrooms we wanted, they were done on time and without any extra costs. Avi and Daniel were very professional, courteous and communicated with me at all times. I am glad we chose them and I recommend them to anyone. read more

We purchased a home last year and my husband called Levi construction. They were highly recommended by a dear friend and we were not disappointed. We needed major renovation throughout the house, kitchen, rooms, bathrooms, flooring you name it. It was a big project that took them about 6 months to complete. I was expecting the usual headaches with any renovation project from past experiences but Daniel and his team did an amazing job, they stayed within budget and always made themselves available to answer our questions. If you are looking for a team of responsible professionals, they're the ones to call. read more

I had an excellent experience with Levi Construction. Their project manager Ben was extremely helpful at providing us information about our project, consulting our needs and presenting different design options. Even though we already had our own design ideas, Ben helped us finalize them by and offered solutions to design issues we had. He took the time to guide us from day one until the project was finished and over delivered in every chance he got. What made me the happiest is that everything was completed on time and Ben stayed within out budget. Out of 3 estimates we received, Ben was right in the middle and I must say it was definitely worth the money. I have already referred them to one of my clients and they are also having a great experience with Levi. Thanks again Ben. read more

We hired Levi Construction to design and remodel our 1960's home in Woodland Hills. Ester and Avi presented us with three beautiful design concepts and we narrowed it down to one. Ester did a great job at integrating our personal needs into one cohesive space. We felt that they really listened to each of our personal needs and wants which was very important to me.  It's unbelievable how fast construction moved and what these guys can do. Avi was very responsive throughout the project and constantly kept me updated. Very knowledgeable, experienced and professional. We had a great connection, we love our home and it was a joy to work with them. Highly recommend! read more

Last year I called Levi Construction after my cousin used their services for a full house remodeling. I wanted to completely remodel my kitchen and after deciding to move forward with Levi, their their designer Eti presented me with a beautiful 3D concept that we really liked. Dealing with one company only was a breeze, they helped me get the cabinets and countertop that I was after, they also helped me to create a unique back splash from one of their vendors. This project lasted 6 weeks, which is exactly the time frame Daniel the project Manager gave me and they also delivered by staying within the original budget. Will not hesitate to call them again for other projects. read more

Last summer we bought a house in Woodland Hills that needed major remodeling. Levi was referred by our neighbors who had done their kitchen with them a few years back. We did a substantial amount of work throughout the house, including an addition to the living room/kitchen area and relocated the kitchen, added a new laundry room, master bedroom and bath. We really loved Eti's design ideas for our project and she was able to understand what we were after. We thought it was going to be a nightmare dealing with contractors, designing and then living in a construction site but we actually had a great experience. Aside from the loud noise and having people in and out of your house, everything was done in a professional matter and we are glad that we chose Levi for our project. I do want to note that since the work was finished they have kept in touch with us and even came to the rescue after my kids spilled paint on our wood floors and I couldn't get it to come off. I am so happy that it turned out better than what we expected and ever imagined. read more

Last year, my wife and I purchased a very old house in Sherman Oaks that needed major remodeling. We ended up remodeling the whole house which included a bedroom and bathroom addition, new kitchen (kept old layout which was great), 2 bathrooms, flooring, new doors and windows and interior and exterior paint. Everything was completed one week before the project deadline and I was very happy with Levi's craftsmanship and quality of work. The builder they used, Ofer, did a great job at making sure everything was the way it needed to be. I was surprised about how much he cared about our project. I truly recommend Levi Construction to everyone. read more

My wife and I had a truly exceptional experience working with Avi and Ester of Levi construction. We hired them to build a highly detailed custom home in West Hollywood. Ester's and Avi's attention to every single detail and their dedication to make their clients truly happy is what separates them from the pack. Even with all the changes we made to the original plan and the set of challenges we had along the way, Avi and Eti went above and beyond to make it happen while staying on budget and meeting our very strict deadline. Though expected a high quality finished product, we were blown away by how beautiful our project came out. We got exactly the house that we wanted without the headaches that usually accompany construction companies. Avi and Ester where with us every step of the way and the process couldn't have been easier. We are very happy in our new home and thankful that we had a great experience working with Levi Construction. We have already recommended them to our friends. read more
