The mandate in my state requires all people to wear masks into shops, and stand at least six feet…read moreaway from each other. However, when I complained to the employees at this store that a man was standing VERY close to me and not wearing a mask, the employees at the store told me they haven't the ability enforce said mask law? Asking why, I was told "because some people have health problems that keep them from using masks, and it's illegal for store employees to ask a person if they have a health problem." So, I said, "It makes no sense to have an unenforceable law. Also, why are workers allowed to ask if my service dog is actually a service dog, which is basically the same as asking if I have a health problem?" They had no answer. Yesterday, I visited the same store, which has a large, bright sign on the door that mandates (as in requires, like shoes and a shirt) that all people entering must where a cloth face covering, and that only five people are allowed in the store at a time. As I stood in line, I counted three people leave and two enter. Naturally, I also entered the store. However, a rather nasty employee started yelling at me, telling me to leave. I asked why, since I counted carefully how many people were in the store. She started becoming shrill, and claiming there was another woman standing by the door I didn't see. I told here I had indeed seen and counted said woman. She ran off, claiming it was her job to do the counting. The next minute she was back, saying I had been right, and let me in. However, the store was chock full of mask less people. When I asked her about it, she claimed the store's own "policy" did not require them as requiring masks causes controversy? Well, sorry, but not enforcing a state mandate that requires all people visiting stores must be wearing their masks causes "controversy," too! In these times, and with it being a mandate to protect people, it's as simple as "no shirt, no shoes, no service!" As I left, I heard the same employee telling people in line waiting to enter the store that they did not have to wear masks! Yet, she chased me out of the building in an attempt to enforce another state mandate! I am quite upset by the lackadaisical and RUDE behavior of the employees at this Dollar General regarding the corona virus pandemic. If this is what people are going to act like, it's no wonder the United States was hit hardest and ranks highest in cases/deaths of Covid-19 in the world! Hire better behaved employees and protect your customers, please! (Note: this review is for the Dollar General in Monmouth, Maine.)
