Manchester Meats is a traditional butcher shop that you would miss if you are not sight seeing when driving down Route 202. I have driven by it multiples times with a sense of curiosity to what they offer, so I decided to stop in one day. it is as small as it looks from the outside, but they have some great selections from thick cut pork chops, ribeyes, red hot dogs, Boarshead meats (one of the few places that offers Boarshead), short ribs, jalapeño and cheddar chest burger patties and more. They offer holiday packaged deals and apparently they are known for their custom butcher packages where you can get several types of cuts for various occasions. The head butcher also makes whoopee pies that sell out within the first half hour of opening the shop. They also offer some cold salads, small selection of farm fresh vegetables, spice blends and other bbq type condiments. This might seem like a hole-in-the-wall type place, but their popularity is quite high which is why I wanted to get them added into the Yelp Community. In the 20 minutes I spent browsing and waiting for my order to be completed, the place filled up with local customers who frequent them and brag about how this location is where they get all their meats for BBQs because of how fresh it is. I walked out with over $100 in meats and every ounce of it was good. They are no joke, they truly embrace the old-school butcher style deli with some additional products that complement their quality meats. You have to check this place out!

Hands down the most phenomenal butcher shop in the area. Well, it may be the only one in the area…read moreunless you head east for several miles then you may come across a local butcher shop in the Manchester area. On 6/10/23, they held an open house to showcase their meats and options available to the general public. They are a butcher shop specializing in cow, pig, lamb and chicken, but they offer many other things in their freezers. The place is small, so go early when they open as you'll get first pick of the freshest meat in the refrigerator on the right side. Those are meats that were cut within the last 24 hours, vacuum sealed and placed directly into the fridge. Next to that fridge is their selection of beer jerky. Next to the meat fridge is also one containing pasta salads, homemade cretons and other sides you would typically add to your BBQ. On the left side is where you'll find the majority of their products in the freezer section. You can get anything from pork belly, bacon, fried clam strips, fish, chicken, lamb, chicken hearts, ribeyes, ground sirloin and SO much more. I didn't even scratch the surface with that list. My wife and I purchased a 1.5lb sirloin steak, 1lb of fresh lobster meat, a pound of bacon, one 0.94lb ribeye steak, a decent size ham steak, and fried clam strips (frozen). Price wise I feel they are very competitive, if not better, than local grocery stores who cut their meats on site or get them pre-cut and delivered. The quality of the sirloin was incredible. I cooked it to a perfect medium and the fat around the edges melted like butter and it was one of the most tender piece of meats my wife has ever had. Her words, not mine. She is a tough one to impress when it comes so steaks. Sorry to those local corporate grocery stores and Walmart because we are getting all our meats from here on out at Castonguay meats. The original owner and creator was on hand during the open house to welcome us. I am willing to travel to this place just to get my meats moving forward for all future BBQs.

If you want to be pleasantly surprised, pull over and stop at Castonguay Meats. They have basically…read moreevery type of meat under the sun, and the best Barbecue Sauce I've had in Maine yet. Everything I've been able to try from Castonguay has been top tier! They also slaughter beef, pork, and lamb, and make Meat Package deals. Not like I've had to do any of that but maybe someday.

For the record, I'm a regular patron of Weston's because I shop there for my wife. There are many things to love about this small local shop. They are one of the few places near us that sell Boar's Head deli products. Also, my wife is a big fan of the regular, spicy and sweet ground sausage they stock. The people who work there are kind and super helpful. They taught me the difference between Wisconsin and Vermont cheddar (creamy vs. sharp). They have a fantastic wine and beer selection, and some interesting hard ciders as well. The clerk I spoke to was an encyclopedia of beer knowledge, plus he didn't tease me for being the only resident of Maine who hates IPAs. I'm disappointed that someone felt compelled to write a 1 star review for this small, local shop because they had a disappointing mincemeat pie. As a regular shopper of Weston's who has interacted with everyone who works there, I would be surprised if they deliberately mislead someone about a product. It's a shame they refuse to come back because in addition to everything else I mentioned, Weston's also offers a great customer loyalty program.
