I need to divide my review into 2 part - service and food. I understand that this is a newly opened restaurant and lounge area in the hotel. However, after 3 weeks, it would seem that they would start to get familiar with how things worked or, better yet, that the restaurant had actually hired staff with some prior experience inside a restaurant. Some of the staff are very nice, however after staying several nights and eating there multiple times, this area needs some work. Friday morning - despite the fact that the hostess had seated me for most mornings of the week - she came up to me in front of other people, and told me that I would need to pay for the breakfast buffet - that it wasn't free. First of all, isn't this a conversation you would have with the waitress? She had sat us at the table with menus that clearly stated the price. I hadn't sneaked out any other morning without paying in full. Even if this is an issue with other guests, it was poorly handled. The food, I must say, is better than the service. They seem to use fresh ingredients that are locally sourced. For a downtown hotel lobby restaurant the prices are reasonable. They have a nive variety of food - including a sushi menu. I hope that the growing pains are short lived. This is a great hotel with a nice staff, new, comfortable rooms and a fantastic gym. read more

I purchased a Groupon from here just wanting to try something new. My expectations were pretty low because it's a hotel restaurant. I was totally blown away. Service was excellent, seated right away, food was 5 stars, location was nice. Literally everything was perfect. I'm def going back and recommend for all. Only con- and this isn't a deal breaker was that there is no barrier from the elevators to the restaurant. Basically the hotel guests come out of the elevator and watch you eat and they're your focal point. One of the guests even came over to me to ask what I was having, in his swim shorts. I'd suggest those room divider curtains for a little bit of privacy. To me there is a difference between restaurant in a hotel and hotel restaurant. read more

Came here for brunch with a friend and a Groupon and I was quite pleased with the result. The Groupon offer was for two cocktails, two entrees, and apparently, a dessert to share, which we did not realize was part of the deal. Thankfully, we each ordered savory entrees, otherwise it would have been too sweet of a meal. For our cocktails, we both tried Tee Time, which was citrusy and refreshing. I don't normally go for cocktails, as I'm a beer girl, but I very much enjoyed this one. Because I love Chilaquiles, I had to try Level Two's version and I wasn't disappointed. The smoked chicken flavor came through and the refried black beans were a spicy and tasty addition. The tortilla chips also stayed crisp in the dish making for a hearty flavor and texture combination. I wish I hadn't talked as much as I did, so I could have eaten more of the dish before it got cold. The dessert then came around, and it was a tasting of three different treats: white chocolate bread pudding, key lime pie, and chocolate chip cheesecake. I liked the cheesecake best, as it was smooth and creamy. The key lime pie was tart, but too crumbly, and the white chocolate bread pudding was just okay, as it was a bit on the dry side. All in all, with pleasant service and an elegant atmosphere, Level Two offers a menu to satisfy any taste, and I was certainly not disappointed. read more

The server was awesome. They did not have the ingredients to make the drink my girlfriend wanted. Normally not a good sign. My parents were in town and were staying at the Hyatt Centric, so we decided to grab breakfast here on their last day. We arrived at about 10, when breakfast closes at 11, and decided to do the breakfast buffet. I didnt even know where to start! They had oatmeal, parfaits, toast and bagels, lox and other meats, and then the traditional breakfast. I wont tell you how many trips I made ;). Highlights for me were the hash browns (definitely went for seconds), the chicken frittata (highly recommend over their scrambled eggs), and the mini parfait. My coffee mug was always full, and our server was very attentive to all of our needs. We had such a great time here, and any time my parents are in town, I will have them stay at this hotel! read more

Food was delicious!!! Through Groupon this place was worth it. Full price though - no way. The donut appetizer was very nice. No dessert plate afterwards though like others have mentioned. I think they were short-staffed because things took awhile and tables all around us were at various points of brunch waiting for things. Boyfriend got a living social deal for this place so we decided to try it out, and we're pleasantly surprised! I could see why people would never know this place existed, unless you were staying at the Hyatt it's located in. But with that being said, I'm so happy we found it! Our LS deal was good for brunch and cocktails for two. My guy only drinks beer, so I tried two of their cocktails and they were both delicious. For eats, I indulged in the crab Benedict, of which I ate the entire thing, while my boyfriend opted for the chicken and waffles, also absolutely delicious judging by the one bite I was allowed. Finally, one last touch I really loved about Level Two is their support and promotion of Chicago. All the beer they carry is local to Chicago, and we were treated to a sample of mini donuts from Stan's Donuts while we waited for our food. I found this to be a really cool and creative way to get tourists interested in just a tiny sample of what Chicago has to offer, and being a local, I really appreciated that! read more

My wife and I recently moved to Chicago. We used to frequently eat at level two when in Chicago on business. Went in today to get a carry out order because she was admitted to Northwestern hospital and loves their grilled cheese. They couldn't make it for me because it was 10:30 and that is a "lunch" item. Today my boyfriend and I had brunch at Level Two as a pre birthday celebration. The service was 5 star and so was the food. He had the level two chicken and waffles and I had the chiliqualies and it was... DELICIOUS. We also had the mimosas and it was probably the best I have ever had. They served complimentary dessert; we had blueberry cheesecake and two different types of bread pudding. They ALSO presented me with a birthday dessert which was also pretty good. This is another good brunch spot downtown in the Loop. 3 years ago my wife and I did a weekend staycation to celebrate our anniversary from Friday-Sunday. That Saturday morning we decided we wanted breakfast and my wife mentioned this place because she had a groupon for it. It's located on the second floor of the Hyatt hotel (hence where the name comes from) on the Magnificent Mile. The ambience, décor and design of the restaurant is very nice. Very sleek, contemporary & modern. we were greeted and seated immediately. While browsing over the menu were given complimentary assorted mini donuts (like complimentary bread at most restaurants) to snack on before ordering our meals. I loved the mini donuts they were excellent. I could've eaten several baskets of those and been satisfied. When it was time to order I ordered the Chicken and Waffles which was a boneless buttermilk fried chicken breast with a sweet potato waffle. The chicken was cooked perfectly. It was crispy on the outside while juicy on the inside, however it wasn't seasoned and lacked flavor I literally had to douse it in salt, also the chicken breast was relatively small (which is why I only gave a 4 star rating) the waffle on the other hand was very good, it was nice and warm yet crisp on the inside and light and airy once you bit into and it had a hint of sweetness from the sweet potato. The waffle came with butter, maple syrup & apple gravy which was very tasty it had a sweet an salty taste which made the chicken tastes 10 times better (I honestly wish I had the recipe for that apple gravy, I would definitely make it at home if I could) Overall if it wasn't for the chicken not being seasoned and the portion size of the chicken this would've been a 5 star review. This is still a good spot to visit if you want afternoon brunch or afternoon drinks/cocktails (as they have a full service bar) the food quality is very good if you can get past the portion size. All in all Level Two is a solid brunch spot. read more

I ordered the trout and a side order of asparagus. They both had way too much black pepper. Also the radicchio that came with the trout was extremely bitter and unpleasant. Came in for happy hour on a Monday night. I was told I could sit anywhere and then was told I had to sit at the bar to receive the special(s). The waitress and hostess both didn't know what the happy hour specials were - and had to ask several times. The menu is okay, there is not much variety over the standard American fare. When asked if I could order small plates/sides along with an appetizer the waitress stared at me as though I was speaking another language. Unfortunately, I didn't leave and decided to place my order anyway. The food was delivered timely and it presented nicely but it was flavorless and bland. I had the chicken pops and they were really fatty and ended up not eating most of them. The salad was unoriginal and bland. Overall, I wouldn't eat here again even if staying at the hotel. read more

Very lovely place! Our server was so polite and attentive! How can you go wrong when you get donuts for brunch instead of rolls!!! They come out warm and are SO yummy! I actually can't believe they sent that out, it still amazes me, it was a thin crust with a tomato dropped on top and a small piece of Mozzarella in the middle of the tomato and piece of green cilantro.. The service was fast and friendly. The Nutella French toast was a large portion. I had trouble finishing it and I can eat a lot. I weigh over 250 lbs. the Sunday brunch came with a drink and desert. Service was way too slow, my friend ordered shrimp salad and she didn't receive her food although most of us were almost done with our food. She finally got her food after like 10 mins and was very unhappy. I ordered spinach chicken risotto and it was like the worst risotto I've ever tasted, it looked like someone spilled bunch of dried rosemary in the risotto, all i could taste was rosemary. Some of the rice was undercooked, it was also under seasoned. Our waitress was way too busy and didn't ask us how the food was. I barely ate risotto and threw most of it out. All I can sY is that this place made my night. I was on a flight running late from Houston on a Saturday night. Get into the hotel around 6 pm and it is a out 38F outside. I came down from my room thinking I would grab a drink and then go eat. Of course the well written menu sucked me in. Everything sounded great. I finally committed to the crab cakes as I wasn't going for a whole meal. I also asked about the local on draught, it was an IPA. Both were superb. As was the service, management and other craft beer selections. This place is a gem. The service was superb. Each wait staff, not just mine, including the manager, asked how I was doing and engaged as they made their way by. The food tasted as great as it sounded (a rarity these days). Lastly, a peeve of mine, the wait staff was not only familiar with the menu, but with the craft beer selections. En toto, when all was said and done, these guys had made my night. A little good food, beverage and company for the wayward traveler on a cold, rainy night in CHI town. This is not your typical hotel restaurant. This is a good place to come for great food, great service, and some excellent, carefully chosen, craft brew selections. Came here for brunch and left mostly disappointed. The service here is SLOWWWW! It took 10 mins to be acknowledged and seated and another 8 get a waiter. Once we ordered food that also took forever to come out but I didn't time it. We ordered pancakes, French toast, and crab Benedict. My order was wrong and they brought me regular Benedict which took 25 mins to rectify. None of the food was memorable except the French toast which was amazing! The pancakes tasted more like whole wheat pancakes than anything described on the menu! Not worth going again unless you can do the take out of French toast. Oh the drinks I ordered a Bloody Mary after being told they were amazing but when I got it, it was so bad! I can't even describe the taste so I traded it for a mimosa because I figured you can't get that wrong. I watched as another table also sent their Bloody Mary back. Stay away! read more

I had a reservation tonight for Level Two. I was really excited because their menu looked great. I got there and there was no hostess, and there were two barely-working-age kids behind the bar with name tags. I made eye contact and said hi, and they utterly ignored me and looked back down at their phones. So I turned around and left, canceled my reservation, and had a fantastic meal at Copper Fox Gastropub just down the road. Stayed at the Hyatt last week with my 4 brothers and ended up having a drink here every night. The drinks are prepared nicely and the service was great. Can't go wrong with an old fashioned here, especially if the bartender Ian is making them. The bar manager, "Sweet" Greg, has definitely made this bar a go to spot (definitely not your average hotel bar).
