We were in the market to repaint our hundred-year-old Craftsman home, and to be honest, we were extremely cautious. About ten years ago, we had a very poor experience with a painter who used improper preparation materials and techniques that were not suitable for a home of this age and type of wood siding. We hired Level Five painting to paint our hall in Atchison Village in Richmond. It was a big job that required a lot of prep work. There were a multitude of cracks and holes. See attached photos. He took the time to thoroughly review the areas the we needed painted and noticed little things that I wouldn't have thought about. Ivan was the foreman and when we were doing the final inspection of the exterior he noticed a small spot on the back corner of the house and recommended changing the color to match the trim. I would never have noticed it. Same was true on the interior. Years ago when I was moving furniture I damaged the baseboard in the hallway. They were careful to mask off everything that wasn't getting painted. When the first coat of paint wasn't exactly what we wanted (who can tell from a little sample what the whole house will look like?), the subsequent coats were adjusted to a color we liked much better. Juan responded the same day and came by the next day and after analyzing the house, was able to give us an estimate. The numbers looked more than fair so we made a commitment. Juan's persona is professional, friendly and very competent. His crew, Ivan, Bernardo and Luis showed up a week later and began the project. The first day was power washing the stucco and thoroughly cleaning the flashing and soffit. The stucco and soffit almost looked brand new. The following 4 days was an example of excellent professional painting. The team sanded, repaired damaged surfaces, removed loose paint, caulked and taped. After we talked and he took a look around, I told my husband (who wasn't there to meet & hear the walk-through) that if Juan's quote was reasonable that I would 100% want to go with him. I had Level Five Painting do some exterior house painting. This is the second time I have used them. They were not the cheapest estimate, but after discussing with Juan, I felt they would do a higher level of prep work which I hope will payoff in the long run. The painters did indeed spend a lot of time (and material) on the prep. My house is mostly stucco, and had lots of stucco cracks. These cracks were filled with a cement patch compound and several coats of elastomeric primer were applied. Similar care was taken on the wood surfaces. Paint was sprayed and back-rolled, which seems to be the preferred method these days. Attention to detail was very good and clean-up was also very good. Overall, I am very pleased with the work that was done and would recommend Level Five to my friends and neighbors. read more
