What I appreciate about this swim school is how each class has a maximum of 4 students per 1 instructor and classes last 30 minutes. They don't waste time singing songs, but they use the entire 30 minute lesson to teach students the life skill of swimming, in a fun environment. Before we started class, the one thing Silas was adamant about was blowing bubbles. He did not want to blow bubbles. But, little did he know, with the encouragement of his patient, and friendly swim instructor Ms. Melissa, she calmly encouraged Silas to overcome his fear and he was blowing bubbles at the end of his first lesson. It was a proud moment for all of us. Ms. Melissa (and the other instructors) use various water gear, such as rings, floaters, flippers, and more to teach different concepts. She gives Silas the confidence he needs to over come his fears and to take his swimming skill to the next level. The second week we went Silas was nervous and hesitant to get in the water. I was completely shocked because he had so much fun the prior week. But, again Ms Melissa calmly encouraged Silas to get in the water little by little. It started with standing in the water, then sitting down, then slowly inching his way in. At the end of the lesson, I couldn't get him out of the water! He loved it so much and had a blast. Currently, Silas is leaping off the stairs and diving towards Ms. Melissa. He's picking up rings underwater, which encourages him to get his head wet, blowing bubbles, and much more. I'm excited to see how he progresses for week 3 and 4. Unfortunately, the biggest problem isn't simply the pace of learning--it's the lack of measurable progress, inconsistent tracking, poor communication, and the apathetic attitude when I raised my concerns. We originally chose Deep Blue because I liked the idea of consistent weekly private lessons and convenient parking. The staff is generally friendly, but our experience varied significantly depending on the instructor. My older son eventually switched to Angela, and his progress has been excellent. As of August 2026, he is between Levels 4 and 5. Angela is also great about making up time if a lesson starts late and sometimes even starts early when she has an opening. This showed me that consistency and communication are possible. Unfortunately, my younger son's experience was very different. According to Alexa, after more than two years of lessons, he is a Level 1, "almost Level 2." I explained that I was extremely disappointed with this level of progress and that we would be ending lessons. Her response was simply, **"Okay."** No concern. No questions. No discussion about how they could have helped. No attempt to retain us. That response really summed up how I felt about our experience. What concerns me most is that after more than two years of lessons, my son still has very limited water-safety skills. I recently put him in a pool expecting that, after all this time in swim lessons, he would at least be able to float or get himself to the side. He could not do either without assistance. I have repeatedly raised concerns about progress with the front desk. I was told that parents are responsible for checking with instructors about levels and asking them to push for more progress. I was also told instructors sometimes forget to update the front desk because they are busy with back-to-back lessons. I'm sorry, but I'm paying **$360 a month for four private lessons.** I expect the school to track my child's progress and communicate that progress to me. I should not have to manage their internal tracking system. At one point, I was even told that instructors aren't always consistent about updating the front desk when children advance. How can a child take weekly lessons for more than two years and not have a consistently documented level or clear progress plan? The school knows there is a tracking and communication problem, yet the responsibility seems to be placed on the parents instead of fixing the system. I also suggested using an app or another system to communicate progress between instructors, parents, and the front desk. Our new swim school does exactly this, and the difference has been significant. I understand that children learn to swim at different rates. My issue isn't that my child didn't become an advanced swimmer. My issue is that **after more than two years of weekly private lessons, he still lacks basic water-safety skills, and there was little urgency or concern about it.** For us, two years was more than enough time to realize this wasn't the right swim school for our child. **We will be taking our business elsewhere.**

Jacki was an easy choice given her dizzying resume alone, and the fact that she trains 5 minutes from my house was a no-brainer. I've met a couple of great swimmers who coach, but I've found her style of coaching to be an exceptionally great fit for the way I train and learn. First of all, she's extremely knowledgeable on modern swim technique, and can very clearly explain the choices for what she teaches. Jacki does a great job of breaking down any technique in the context of race strategy (Ideal choices for distance vs sprinting, training, etc), and has helped me a ton with body position and recruiting the right muscles for better efficiency as a well as injury prevention. She's very direct in her communication style, and I've learned a ton in just a few sessions with her. She's helped me break through a number of barriers and created a progression for me in my form that's felt highly productive and effective. 5/5 would definitely recommend to any swimmers looking for private instruction at any level.

She pinpointed issues in my daughter's freestyle strokes and offered solutions. Her explanations were easy to understand and follow. My daughter said that she was able to swim faster in corrected strokes by the end of the session. Jackie also offered good strategies in pacing her 200 free event. My daughter is motivated to do her daily swim in Jacki's approach and check results in swim meet next weekend. We're looking to see Jackie on a regular basis as we feel our daughter will improve tremendously with her instructions.

These instructors are young, mostly high-school students who have different styles and don't really have a lesson plan for each child. They don't really care because it's not like they'll be teaching the same child again. Like, how would you know what they're working on when there's a different person every week and they all have different styles of swimming?!?! The lanes are shared by 5 people (x2) so they're bumping into each other. It's crowded, and again no direction. This place uses the Cerritos College aquatic pool and you have to pay for parking. This place sucks! My kids didn't learn anything new. Stay away from this place! Go somewhere else.

She just graduated to Pre Comp and is now a swordfish. My 10 month old started with the parent tot class for 1 month and then we switched to private lessons with Emily and he's doing so good! He's going underwater and learning to float already. I'm here twice a week and see that everyone here works really well with the kids, my children and I all feel comfortable working with any of the amazing instructors :)
