Easily one of my top 5 favorite restaurants of all time. Tried it for the first time tonight. Beautiful space, peaceful patio, delicious food and great service. Our server was Ben.. I had chicken paillard.. absolutely delicious, my boyfriend had a burger and said it's the best he's ever had. Chicken was so moist and flavorful. They easily accommodated my gluten allergy. Mary was my server at a delightful dinner at LeTour tonight, and it reminded me of the last time I ate at LeTour's predecessor, Found, when Mary was also my server. I was on a first date with a guy from the apps. He rather loudly told Mary that it was our first date. When I later went to the bathroom, Mary made a point of approaching me to ask if the date was going ok and to make sure I felt comfortable. It was amazingly caring. Everyone on a first date should have someone like Mary watching out for them. Oh, and the food, service, and ambience was fantastic. A perfect place for a birthday dinner for my friend. read more

We came to LeTour to celebrate a family member's birthday. It was a lovely evening so we sat out on the patio and enjoyed the mild weather and a fine meal. We were each treated to a glass of cava to begin. We then moved on to cocktails with our appetizers -- duck mousse, the squash soup, and mussels. All were well-prepared and tasty. For our entrees we had scallops scampi bucatini, chicken vesuvio, and tangine of chicken. With our entrees we had a bottle of the vouvray brut. After dinner we had two orders of dark chocolate mousse with drunken cherries. It was the perfect ending to a wonderful meal. We especially liked that our waiter was funny and very helpful. Some restaurants tell you that you have 90 minutes at your table and then you need to vacate, but that was NOT the case at LeTour, which we greatly appreciated. Cost per person was about $100 excluding tip and tax. The quality of the meal was well worth it and we'll definitely return. read more

We recently moved to Evanston and accidentally discovered LeTour. We were intrigued by the beautiful outdoor seating just to be surprised by even a more beautiful interior. The menu is quite diverse, the crispy octopus salad and the smash burger were delicious. I gave 4 stars not 5 because I had higher hopes for the veggie couscous. I'm middle eastern and such flavors and right up my ally, but the veggie couscous seasoning was overwhelming it needed something to balance the taste like potato or lemon squeeze I'm not sure, it was just overwhelming and needed to be toned way down. We had the vanilla Mille-feuille for dessert and it was so so good! Highly recommend. Otherwise, amazing service. The hosts and servers are very polite, nice and welcoming. We will be dining there again for sure. read more

Just had a truly lovely outdoor brunch at LeTour. Went with a friend for my birthday, and thankfully, the weather was gorgeous. We sat in LeTour's new outdoor seating, which had a mix of sun and shade based on the trees. Unfortunately, the trees were shedding some sort of pollen/seeds, which coated our table and clothes and hair and occasionally fell in our glasses and food. That was the only negative of my experience. Ordered the baguette with jam and butter, semolina pancakes, and egg souffle sandwich. All were delicious. Next time, I'll skip the baguette (good, but could easily recreate myself at home) and swap in a different appetizer. The table cakes were uniquely thick without being too dense. The egg souffle sandwich was seasoned to perfection - my favorite part of brunch. The waiter brought out two tastes of prosecco because it was my birthday. Unfortunately, those went to waste because I don't drink. But the gesture was nice. The cost for the experience was surprisingly reasonable, around $40 before taxes. Can't wait to return! read more

We will not be coming back. The ambiance was nice but the food was borderline inedible. The monkfish had zero flavor and was an over cooked brick. We ordered about 8 appetizers and they were very small and most were way too salty. The bread served with most of the appetizers was also impossible to rip and eat, it was cold and hard. They were not willing to make many substitutions (based on allergies) and made us feel bad for asking and everything was overall not impressive. Also, as an unrelated side note, the restrooms have low hanging plants in the stalls and over the hand dryers so beware of your head, it was very weird. read more

Here to celebrate my best friends birthday. Amazing decor and the service staff and of course food are impressive. It's difficult to create a dining experience that manages to check all the boxes and Le Tour does it with style and grace. The lighting is perfect and the arrangement of tables is done so as to maintain a sense of balance . The food is not only impressive and delicious but visually appealing! I've posted our meal experience of Duck liver mousse appetizer, which was so rich and satisfying, followed by the Moroccan Tagine of Chicken, and Lamb Couscous. The chicken was moist and flavorful I believe it was equivalent to 1/2 chicken. The lamb was so tender and the couscous was the best I've ever had! Dessert was caramelized apple tart cake which is moist and light and the Crisp Meringue Pavlova was to die for ( who would think lemon crème chocolate caramel sauce would create such a refreshing decadent flavor! I've been here several times and have always loved the food and the atmosphere. Unfortunately, my visit last week left me we a soured appetite for this place. My family and I were placed by the kitchen, and we were enjoying out meal when we started hearing shouting from the kitchen. We thought maybe its the usual kitchen craziness as it was pretty busy. But, what we ended up hearing was someone (who I assume was the head chef) screaming and berating their employees. They went beyond the bounds of professionalism and usual kitchen chaos, and they were just clearly verbally abusing their employees. We could even clearly hear them call out order counts, and then proceed to yell when the cooks gave the chef the number they asked for, saying it wasn't correct. My daughter was beginning to get uncomfortable, so we left after just appetizers. A week later, I ran into a friend who works in the restaurant industry, and after teling him what had happened, he told me that LeTour had a reputation for the kitchen being poorly managed. They apparently pay their female staff less than the male staff, and they keep the kitchen understaffed to save money, but it forces the cooks to work multiple stations, which leads to burnout and high turnover. Having heard the yelling, I could believe it, and I feel sorry for the staff. I hate that this is a thing. LeTour was always a nice place to bring guests from out of town, but knowing what goes on behind the scenes in the kitchen has definintely killed my appetite... read more

There simply isn't anything Amy and Debbie cannot do. Congrats to two powerhouse ladies for launching another tremendous spot. LeTour gives a new, funky spin on French cuisine, with a Moroccan-inspired flare. The ambiance is incredible, with each section of the restaurant providing a unique dining vibe. We sat in the lounge area near the bar the first time, and the the Warhol-inspired dining area the second time. The service is tremendous - waitresses and waiters knowledgeable about the nuances of every dish/drink and able to provide sound recommendations for pairings. Dylan in particular was fantastic - young, confident, kind and patient, not to mention, cool as a cucumber during opening week. In my opinion, service can make or break a meal, and can take a dining experience from great to exceptional. Now, pardon my LACK of French as I am going to butcher the names of dishes. The cheese wheel - 5/5. To die for. Definitely large for 2 people to share, probably enough for 4+ to split honestly. Unreal flavors with the mushrooms, the jus and the Brie. I personally can get overwhelmed with cheesy dishes, but this was the PERFECT balance of flavor and did not sit heavily in my belly like some dairy dishes can. Imagine that, a half of a wheel of cheese consumed and already ready for more! *chefs kiss* Lamb couscous - 4/5. The lamb was melt-in-your-mouth good. So tender and so juicy. Beautifully paired with cous cous, chickpeas, carrots and prunes (would've loved a couple more prunes). There was a unique sausage included in the dish as well which I thoroughly enjoyed. A LOT of meat for a dish, so come hungry if you're ordering the lamb. Also definitely pair with the African sauce that comes in the side, I felt it definitely needed that little extra pop of flavor. Tangine of Chicken - 5/5. In my opinion, the show stopper. Juicy chicken and tremendous flavoring. Loved the side of cous cous as well. Incredible presentation to go along with the dish. Truly made you feel like you were at a traditional Moroccan restaurant. Gratin (potatoes side) - 5/5. Wow. Baked in a cast iron, these potatoes had the most wonderful crisp to them. Layered in a light cheesy (?) goodness, my boyfriend and I were fighting over every bite. A perfect side. Escargot - 4/5. Great flavors all mashed in with the potatoes. Certainly worth a try if you're not sure if you like snails! Enough for a table of 4. Carrots - 5/5. Locally sourced, cooked beautifully and complemented the dishes to a T. Generous serving size for a side! The crazy horse - 5/5. If you love Mezcal, you will LOVE this smoke-forward drink. Huge fan! Old fashioned - 5/5. A classic, that Le Tour does exceptionally well. All in all, Le Tour offers such a magical dining experience. The food is unique and serves up new tastes and smells to explore, which cities like Chicago/Evanston NEED. As many other reviews mention, service is on the slower side. I was in good company, and not in a rush, but with no appetizer, main course and dessert our meal took 2.5 hours. Part of that was due to our chatter but most of it was due to the sluggish service. The food was fine, although I would have expected much more out of the French fries of a "French" restaurant, particularly when they are served with their signature Steak Frites dish. They reminded me of dried out McDonald's fries. Also, maybe serve them with some aioli? I got perhaps a teaspoon of ketchup. The cocktail and dessert were lovely. Additionally, some sort of green veggie as a side would be great to consider - carrots and two types of potatoes are all they currently offer. I won't be rushing back but might give them another try if I was in the area. I know business must be suffering due to construction in the area. read more

Came for my half birthday, on NYE eve. Super attentive and professional service the moment you enter the door. Were were seated after 2 minutes in a beautiful dining area. Our server Lydia was extremely helpful. She offered some crowd pleasers, along with personal favorites. We had a traditional Salad Lyonaise, with a perfectly cooked duck egg. This was followed by The Escargot over awesome pomme purée(mashed potatoes). Very creative spin on another classic. We then shared a delicious Chicken Tagine, one of their Moroccan specialties. One of the best restaurants in Evanston. From the creators of Found. Unfortunately, it is not as good as Found was. The easiest thing they could fix: the cocktail menu. The only spirit forward cocktail on it is an Old Fashioned. Usually a place like this would be a bit more creative. I still go here, because it is one of the best around, but I hope they do something about the cocktail menu. (The food menu is also not as good, in my opinion, as Found, but oh well.) read more

Beautiful decor and who doesn't love a swivel chair? Great G and T. Happy Hour menu looks nice. Food was fine. One blunder made the experience less than optimal. My party of three ordered several starters and were told by the waiter that it is preferred that we order starters and mains at the same time and that "we will course them out." That's a great idea in theory--as long as the waiter keeps an eye on the table and lets the kitchen know the pace of the table--unfortunately, in practice doesn't always work well. Such was the case tonight. We ordered 4 apps--the burgundy snails (the base of whipped potatoes were very good and according to one of my friends--may even have been better than the snails themselves), the tarama-salata (delicious and served with great bread) the Caesar salad (dressed with a non-creamy dressing--light and refreshing), and the sea bass crudo (meh). The LeTour G and T was fantastic--I omitted the pink peppercorns. It was really good. We were still nibbling on our starters when a server (not the one who had taken our order) appeared with two of our main dishes. The table was full of dishes--because we were still eating our starters! So much for coursing it out! Note to self: I will NEVER fall for that line again. We told her we weren't ready yet and she took them away. This also means that our waiter hadn't been keeping an eye on our table to see if we were done with our starters or to alert the kitchen to slow things down--but also that no one had checked to see if the table had been cleared before the main courses were to be delivered. Completely unacceptable. We finished our starters and the table was cleared and immediately our main courses were delivered. We had the monkfish (accompanying lentils were good but not hot) and the skate wings--both good--as well as the steak frites--steak was really tasty, fries were not hot. We also had the roasted carrots which were very good. Not a great first impression. Food good, not great. Nothing was especially memorable except the "coursing out" blunder. Maybe I needed a second LeTour G and T....... I wanted to really like this place so would consider giving it one more chance. However, next time, I will do the coursing out! :-) read more

What a lovely space and ambience! We were seated facing the street and the beautiful lighted trees presented a picturesque scene. Started out with a crusty and tasty baguette. It was quite hard to tear apart and may be better presented cut in rounds or strips in a basket. Loved the spicy mustard accompaniment! The Mezze plate features three selections of which I liked the beet hummus the best. The tahini yogurt was quite bland until I added a touch of the mustard and that addition worked perfectly. The monkfish steak with lentils was scrumptious! My wife enjoyed the steak frites, perfectly cooked to order. Our waitress was excellent as was the host. All in all, we really enjoyed our evening at Le Tour! read more

Despite the great reviews, we were very disappointed with both the food and service at Le Tour. We arrived a bit early for our already early dinner reservation and were pleased that we were able to be seated right away. Unfortunately they took us to a very undesirable table at first. There are two lovely rooms with lots of windows that were looking out at Evanston decked out for the holidays (lots of twinkly lights). Unfortunately they did not bring us to either of these rooms but instead offered us a table in no man's land right in the middle of the flow of traffic. I asked for another option and we were led to a beautiful table with a lovely view. It annoys me when restaurants try to pawn off the less desirable tables first and make you ask for a better one. I don't know what is happening with either their seafood vendor or the procurement but they were out of seafood the night we were there, as I see from other reviews at different times. They did have oysters though. We ordered one dozen but were only brought nine. They tried to clear the platter but we had to stop them so we could point out that we were shorted three. This is significant since you pay by the oyster. In the end they brought us three more. I ordered the chicken tagine and it wasn't particularly good. There were five in our party and the only person that really enjoyed their meal was our resident vegan. She had the mushroom kabab and really liked it. It is pretty hard to mess up a mushroom kabab though. We ordered dessert also. The birthday person ordered the chocolate mousse but really didn't like the cherries that came along side. The MILLE FEUILLE was really disappointing. It only had the smallest amount of caramel drizzle that one could imagine. Though our server was nice enough the service was terrible! They could deliver an order properly. We were offered items we didn't order, as mentioned above, not provided the correct amount of oysters and not one person was plated the proper entrée. This was our 1st visit to Amy Morton's not-too-French French restaurant, Le Tour, in Evanston, Illinois. We will be back ASAP. We had requested to sit outside on their lovely patio but when we arrived it was just too windy and getting a bit cool. The hostess offered to seat us anywhere we liked and suggested a table right next to the open patio door, somewhat sheltered; it was perfect. My husband enjoyed a nice Bordeaux, while I opted for a chef-made and delicious fresh Sangria, served beautifully. Our server, Steve, was excellent, knowledgeable and friendly (but not too friendly). My husband and I shared the delicious mousse to start; crisp bread and house-made jam. My husband ordered and enjoyed the steak frites (opposed to a previous review, the frites/fries arrived scalding hot & crisp). I ordered Salad Niçoise, one of my favorite things to eat. It was, hands down, the best I have eaten, in or outside of Nice, although it could have used a few more olives. OK, forget that. The tuna was just seared on the outside with the inside nicely raw; the potatoes were fried crisp, the first time I have had it presented thusly. Greens were crisp but soft, hb egg was cooked to perfection--not jammy but perfectly yellow. Green beans and capers were green and yummy. Chef Debby Gold certainly knows her way around the kitchen. LeTour - Salad Niçoise at Le Tour restaurant - French Near Me - Evanston, Illinois

I wanted to like it because it's French, and I'm French. Already the name bothered me, because it should be La Tour (if it's a reference to the round tower-like appearance of the location.) The inside had a nice ambience, although a bit too noisy for me. The waitress took some time taking our orders and the wrong dish was brought to me. I ordered Chicken Tajine and got Chicken Paillard. Still, it didn't taste awful, although the chicken was a bit tough, which was what I was trying to avoid by getting Chicken Tajine. My friend enjoyed her dish, and we were comped a nice Moroccan mint tea for the mistake. Although our waitress was nice enough and interesting, she didn't pay as much attention to us as she did the larger table next to us. I expected more consistency across the board. Tonight was the third or fourth time I've been there. This place is a 10 in every regard! Went for my partners birthday today and it was fantastic! Great Server! Great food! Great music! Overall really enjoyed LeTour but with some important quibbles. Prices are hit-or-miss; definitely on the higher side, but we assembled a meal of shared items for a respectable price. $6 per oyster, however? Would have loved a few but not at that price. Our baked Brie appetizer was delicious, as were the mussels - very large and plump and tasty. The "burnt cheesecake" dessert was less successful; not much flavor beyond the sweet fruit topping and the burnt bottom. The space is nice but maybe isn't a perfect match for the bistro-style food, especially for the tables to the right as you walk in. Feels a little like the restaurant isn't sure how hard to lean into the French thing - my suggestion is to maybe do so a little less (not sure the name helps here), as French food comes with an association with rich, buttery food that doesn't have broad appeal any more. Despite the quibbles, service was great and atmosphere is relaxed and upscale and the intercontinental menu is interesting enough to want to be back. read more

This place should be a shining star on the north shore but it falls really flat. If I had later found out that our dinner was their first night, I would have believed it. Let's start at the beginning. The choice to scent the air with raclette is...a choice to be sure. Perhaps such a strong, funky cheese isn't the best option for a happy hour dish. Oh well, it is a French joint after all! We were early and so checked in and sat at the bar. We were informed happy hour was still ongoing, so we tried the specialty cocktail. Very good. We ordered a second round of cocktails and I ordered the house g&t. For some reason it was served in an enormous wine glass, with a ton of garnish (fine, fun) but also with a metal, drinking glass sized straw, and mixed into the drink were pink peppercorns. These seem to not only serve no purpose in regards to flavor profile, but also make the thing almost impossible to drink, because they are constantly slipping up the straw. I do not wish to eat whole peppercorns with my g&t...??? Also the skins come off so you have more than one thing to extract from your mouth at each sip. This whole drink was a mess. I have no idea who designed this, but lose the peppercorns. While at the bar we were never offered a food menu. Finally, the hostess came to us and said "oh we're almost ready for you, your table will be right there." And pointed. We waited...and she never came back to seat us so finally we just sat down. The server seemed confused by our presence, but eventually offered us menus. He fumbled the bread and clanked it down on the table loudly and oddly. The bread came with a butter knife and...no bread knife. No matter, it was delicious and we tore into it, literally. We asked for recommendations, and ordered two apps, and a steak frites to split. The waiter suggested the goat cheese dish, which we ordered, but instead we received the onion tart. Which again, was quite good, but not what we ordered. Eventually we obtained a list of wine bottles, and a gentlemen sauntered up and asked if we'd like to order a bottle of wine - this was after the server said he would be right back to get our bottle order. I asked about a red wine (the whole wine list is quite small, again, a choice, fine) and the man I assume was the sommelier...said that he had "never had that one" and that he "hadn't worked his way through the wine list yet." .... Isn't that like, his whole raison d'etre, as it were???? The steak was fine. No sauce, jus, anything like that. Fries were great. Wine was fine. We ordered a dessert and it was blatantly not what was on the menu. A mille feuille shouldn't be basically a shortbread cookie that has to be cut with a steak knife. Overall the food was good-but the service and many of the choices made by the staff and on the menu were confusing and decidedly not "fine dining" or French. read more

Absolutely terrible service. Waitress forgot drinks and never asked us if everything was okay. Waited over an hour for our food and some of our dishes were undercooked. Manager did not seem to want to make things right after we expressed we were upset, he seemed very unbothered by the situation. Here for my birthday - the service is unbelievably bad. I know other reviewers said this too but wow. No host for 15 minutes, no waiter/waitress for another 15 - had to ask for one. Hostess didn't have enough menus to give us - not a joke. Slow on food. Super slow on drinks. Wild how understaffed this place is - I'd shut down until I can hire. Met before a show, so we went to the bar for apps at 430p until the dining room opened at 530p. The place is beautiful, nice finishes, radius diningroom, plently of sunshine, paintings and other furnishings. Seperate bar and low seating area. Convenient parking garage nearby The cocktails were excellent, top-notch. We had the LaTour G&T. French gin, house made rosemary tonic, pink peppercorns. One of us is a gin andvtonic snob, and she was very pleased, nice and refreshing and complex. I had the crazy horse, mezcal, aperol, and lime. Was unusual but familular flavors, really liked it. We also had the $5 old fashioned, and provence in a glass, a lavender lemonade n/a. All well liked. While we waited, we cot the 3 apps. 1. The oysters- small but tasty $2 ea 2. Cup of olives - wide variety and really tasty 3. Raclette cheese on baguette - although cool presentation, heating and carving, the bread was stale and cheese was not nearly hot enough. We got in for dinner at 530. We let them know we had a show and needed to be out by 7p and they timed it well. The bar service was really attentive, and dinner service was a little less. We got fresh bread that was good and cruncy with unsalted butter and mustard to spread. For the salad, we shared the octopus salad. Octopus is perfectly cooked and seasoned with mixed greens and vinegarette. For main couse. 1. The tangine of chicken with a little side of spicy marissa was the best thing. 2 the monk fish special little over cooked on lentils, well cooked under spiced 3. The steak frites- nice size piece. One of us loved it , one of us meh. We chose the upcharged version with a stip steak rather than the flank steak $60. The fries were exceptional, light, crispy, and hot 4. Gratin Dauphinoise- creamy layered potatoes. These were yummy, the 2nd bet thing we ate. Overall. The food was under seasoned. We were all using the salt and pepper shakers a lot. It would have been better with proper seasoning. We had the camelized peach tart for desert with ice cream. Was tasty overall, but the cake was fairly dry. The ice cream helped with that. The pricing was moderately expensive. About $500+ for 4 of us with 3 cocktails, 3 apps, 1 salad, 3 wine, 4 mains, 1 side, 1 desert , and 3 cappuccinos. We liked the place and the cocktails. I made reservations for my mother and I a month in advance for Easter Sunday, we were excited to try LeTour especially for Brunch on Easter Sunday. Surprised that there was no Easter Brunch menu posted as we got closer to 4/9, but assumed we see a special Easter Sunday Brunch menu on arrival. Not the case, the regular Brunch menu was offered. Would not accommodate my request for mussels. We looked for forward to our baguette and homemade strawberry jam, we just knew we'd probably get some delicious European butter along with it, (wishful thinking). The baguette was dry, crumbly, day or days old store bought perhaps? toasted up and broken in half when brought to our table. I bake better bread that what was served. I ordered Raclette, mushrooms, salade maison and it was insulting to receive a microwaved, very large slice, of gelatinous not fresh quiche, served along side of not the freshest radicchio and arugula salad with unimagined vinaigrette, it was tasteless. My mother ordered the chicken tagine, apparently the best dish on the menu. Served in the tagine was okay, but my mother makes better couscous with less ingredients. We both thoroughly enjoyed the apple tart with butterscotch dessert it was delicious and tasted as if made with cornmeal. the electric dust in added to the peach champagne cocktail ends up on hands and face, fyi. Wonderful dining experience! Took my mom here for dinner while she was visiting from out of the country and we had an excellent meal. Started off with oysters from Virginia which were delicious, main dishes were steak and skate wing which melted in your mouth. Ambience and service were lovely as well. Definitely recommend and would go back for a memorable evening. read more
