Scarlet, Rosie, Dubliner, Johnny Appleseed, and Corn off the Cob
Danielle B.

Very happy with my custom cake and some cupcakes I added on! I really feel like the price matched the quality for my experience. I got a custom 6" cake for ten people and simply asked for bees and honey drips made from frosting. I left the rest to them and they delivered a very cute cake! I added my own cake topper and candles and it was perfect for the event. The 6" definitely fed all 10 of us, plus we had almost half a cake for the next day. Loved that! The birthday boy loves peanut butter and chocolate more than anything so we got the "Love at First Bite" and wow!!! It was so moist and SO delicious. Cut really beautifully, too! I also added on 6 cupcakes for post turkey trot 5k snacks for my friends and I. Dubliner, Rosie, and Johnny Appleseed were soooo good! Corn off the cob was fun to try and unique, but not my cup of tea. Lol! Overall, a truly wonderful bakery with excellent customer service!

The macarons SOOO soft very nice. Enjoyed the frosting on the red velvet cake but the cake was a little too spongey for me but it was still good.

Still great! For my birthday cupcake yesterday! Amazing!

Updating my review. Let them eat cake is soooooo delicious. Best place to get cupcakes in Davis. Sign up for a five star reward card to save towards a reward. Everyone who works here is so nice, and the decor is soooo cute. They're very helpful and everything is properly socially distanced. There is tape on the floor six feet apart. Unfortunately, due to covid they have reduced hours. The cupcakes are pretty reasonably priced, $3 for a really good quality cupcake. I used to live in LA, and I'll say it, Candace Nelson come at me. Let them eat cake has better cupcakes than Sprinkles. On this day, there were maybe 9? Different types of cupcakes on display, including some vegan options! I was really intrigued by the "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and "down by the sea". I really enjoyed the down by the sea frosting. I didn't really taste the mimosa, but both were really quite good. I'd love to try their other selections another time!

Wedding cake

We couldn't have had a better experience with Let Them Eat Cake--we absolutely loved our wedding cake in October 2023! Alyssa is such a kind soul and took the time to listen to our vision. She definitely made our dream a reality and was even able to make our cakes gluten free! I highly recommend the little miss sunshine flavor. Plus, we had so much fun doing the wedding cake tasting here.

Very friendly and responsive staff, which I always love. Walked in on a whim with friends and had to buy several things! Mini pumpkin pie- (not pictured) filling was a little loose but shockingly good, although the crust could use a little bit more pre-bake. Very impressed, especially considering majority of the pumpkin pies you can buy are barely mediocre flavorless things. Ferrero-Roche cupcake- gorgeous looking with the gold dust, the cake itself was over cooked enough that I just ate the chocolate mouse filling and the insanely excellently decadent ganache Snickerdoodle- standard doodle, would've liked it a little softer but I'm also unsure when it was baked Oatmeal chocolate chip- not bad, but I probably wouldn't order again. Some other cupcake pictured as well that my boyfriend bought - under the sea? Can't remember name. Regular chocolate chip cookie (not pictured), thick cookie but more on the chewy than soft/gooey side that I prefer. Overall, the goods seem to have an over baked theme going, with the exception of mini pie which probably could've used another minute in oven. Flavor is good and people are very nice, I'll definitely go again and stop in for a latte or something.

Loved getting cupcakes for birthdays from here when I lived in Davis. They have so many unique flavors but not all are offered year round. I really liked the dubliner and blueberry cheesecake cupcakes. Only caveat is their cupcakes are on the pricier end but I def enjoyed getting them once in a while and I liked supporting this local Davis bakery!

Custom Fantasyland Cake

I've been a customer for many, many years. I started visiting the bakery as a student looking for a quiet place to study and then as a new teacher looking for a peaceful place to grade. Now, Alyssa is my go-to baker for any special-occasion cake. She is extremely professional, organized, hardworking, and creative. A true artist, I think Alyssa works best when you aren't too specific with what you want, which allows her creative freedom. When I put in a cake order I usually tell her something general like "Fantasyland vibes for a gal on her 30th" or "Haunted Mansion. Whatever inspires you" and she's able to create something beyond my imagining. Did I mention her cakes are really delicious? Alyssa has been especially wonderful during quarantine. Since I couldn't be with my friends in person on their birthdays, Alyssa crafted and delivered cakes in my stead to Davis, Natomas, and Woodland. In addition, I recently planned a small, socially-distant baby shower and she and her helper came geared up in masks and gloves to set up the entire dessert table! I didn't have to stress getting the event together knowing that Alyssa would be handling all the treats, and she delivered in so many ways! Alyssa is easy to work with; fair with her pricing; socially-responsible; and overall an asset to our community. Please don't hesitate to contact Let Them Eat Cake for your next celebration, or just because.

Let Them Eat Cake might be my favorite store in Davis! As a big fan of dessert, I'm always looking to find my new favorite pastry or sweet. After finding out about Let Them Eat Cake, I'm not sure I can find anything better. Right next to Central Park, Let Them Eat Cake has a very simple, unsuspecting exterior. But, upon walking in you're greeted by a beautifully decorated interior and very kind employees. The cupcakes themselves are probably the best cupcakes I've ever had. Of their staple cupcakes, I'm a huge fan of the Down By The Sea and Illegally Blonde. The cupcakes are moist and flavorful. The vegan cupcakes are indiscernible from the traditional ones, meaning they're just as good. Additionally, their vegan cupcakes are made with soy, so if you have a tree nut allergy this place is still allergen-friendly (but be careful of cross contamination). For me, the biggest appeal is their weekly flavors. They have a huge list of cupcake flavors on their website and each week they put out five different flavors (along with the staples: Vanilla, Chocolate, Red Velvet, and Caramel). It's so fun being able to walk in every week and try their new flavors, knowing that each one is going to be so tasty. Overall, Let Them Eat Cake might just be my favorite place in Davis. If you're ever walking downtown or you're even remotely close to the Davis area, I highly recommend visiting!

Let them eat cake is delicious! I randomly stopped in here one day and got cupcakes during the Davis Farmer's Market. I saw that Yelp had a coupon for 1 free cupcake if you buy 5, so out I walked with 6 cupcakes! My then- fiancé and I were drooling over how delicious they were. Literally ate 2 in our car parked outside. We decided that we were interested in having Let them eat cake make our wedding cake and desserts. Fast forward a year later and Alyssa created the most beautiful Lemony Snickett semi-naked cake and desserts like we wanted! We heard nothing but good things from our guests and I'll never forget the moment we cut our cake. My taste buds brought me right back to year ago when we ate cupcakes outside of the shop. Thank you soooo much!

Chloe B.

I stopped in on my way to celebrate my friend's birthday. I didn't know it was tucked in fraternity row. I enjoyed the ambience of the shop. You could look across and see a farmer's market. I did think there might be cakes and cupcakes but there were only cupcakes. Maybe I arrived to late in the day. Overall the bakery case was somewhat full. The cupcakes were pretty tasty. Downside the frosting was a tad sweet on a couple. I'd go back.

I've stopped coming by to check out their selection because every time I do, I become irrationally angry thinking about how delicious these cupcakes used to be. Not to mention they no longer advertise their daily cupcakes so you just have to take a risk by walking in and getting stuck with something like a gluten free blackberry cheesecake that feels like it's scratching your throat the whole way down. If you want some cupcakes, save yourself some money and just go down to your local Bel Air or Nugget and order yourself a dozen cupcakes for no more than $12/dozen and they'll taste just as good or better.

On a recent visit, I asked what was a popular choice and that's how I ended up with a barracuda cupcake, which was pretty delicious. I also got a "breakfast" sandwich, the #4, which sort of tasted like a non-breakfast sandwich, but whatever. It was spicy and tasty, but nothing to write home about. Luckily there is a whole vegan menu, so I would happily try another sandwich on a return visit. I also love that this place charges extra to sub meat, and not to sub vegan (which is how it should be, frankly). The spot itself is small, with not a lot of seating, which makes it better as a place to grab stuff to go. The downside of this is that parking is absolutely terrible, so I ended up parking four or five blocks away.

I've been coming to Estelle's Bakery & Patisserie for years since I used to live only a block away,…read moreso it became one of my favorite places to walk to for tea and desserts. I've since moved out of state, but during my last visit in January this year, the treats and drinks were just as delicious as I remembered. This was always one of my favorite spots to spend a few hours catching up with girlfriends over tea and pastries. The ambience is lovely and gives off fancy tea party vibes, making it perfect for casual conversations, book discussions, or just relaxing with something sweet. My personal favorites are the rose macaron and the mont blanc desserts. If I'm feeling hungry, I usually order the ratatouille, and the vanilla bean French toast is amazing when I want something sweet but filling. Matcha is always my go-to drink here too (though it's on the sweet side, so I don't think it's ceremonial grade). I remember my first visit; It was when I stopped by later in the day looking for a birthday cake for my son's 8th birthday about five years ago. I ended up choosing their chocolate mousse cake on a whim since it was one of the cakes they still had on display, and it turned out to be a good decision. My son loved it, but it was too chocolatey for me so he ended up having most of the cake. Still one of the memories I remember most from here. It was something I kept in mind that if I wanted more options and variety, I should arrive earlier in the day. There are a few downsides that keep this from being a full 5 stars for me though. The parking lot is very small and street parking can be difficult, especially during busy hours. The place gets crowded very easily, which is why I usually preferred walking there when I lived nearby. There's often a guard stationed at the front kindly holding the door open, though I imagine that's also due to the neighborhood. Pricing is definitely on the expensive side, but honestly that's fairly expected with a patisserie. My biggest issue is that service can noticeably decline when they're overwhelmed. Depending on when you visit, the line can get absurdly long (almost out the front door), and I've experienced slower service and even had my drink mixed up with another customer's order once. Since I order oat milk due to lactose intolerance, getting the order correct is pretty important. Thankfully, when the bakery isn't overly busy and adequately staffed, the employees are attentive, friendly, and very helpful with the ordering process if you have questions. It is still one of the Sacramento bakeries I miss after moving away. It was so lovely to have a bakery down the street from home.
