So when I stumbled upon Icing On The Cupcake on J street-I was hooked right away. This shop has a pretty good location on 24th and J Street. They are connected to Chicago Fire restaurant. Parking on this busy street is mostly lots and street parking, so that can be challenging. The shop itself is pretty small and has limited seating areas inside. This particular visit was pretty unique in that I was able to pick up an "end-of-day" package of cupcakes which allowed me to try a bunch of flavors of cupcakes at a discounted price. The employee was pretty friendly-I informed him I was there to pick up my pre-packed collection of cupcakes and he went to the back and grabbed my box of cupcakes. I was able to pick up my cupcakes for only $5.99 for 5 cupcakes. My two favorites were the carrot cupcake and the peanut butter chocolate cupcake. They were very moist and very sweet-I ate those two very fast. Overall I would say my visit was a success and I wouldn't hesitate to go back to pick up a cupcake or two with or without a discount. They are great.

I stopped at Pushkin's Bakery with a friend one morning and went straight for the Mud Pie Cookie. Rich, decadent, intensely chocolatey, and somehow gone much too quickly. I probably should have ordered two. I also tried the Russian Tea Cookie, which is vegan and every bit as delicious. Buttery, crumbly, covered in powdered sugar, and simply divine. Everything at Pushkin's is gluten-free, but that's almost beside the point. These are just really good baked goods, period. The display case is dangerously tempting, the service was quick and friendly, and I loved the refreshingly no-fuss atmosphere. Come in, choose your carb, be happy. Next time, I'm branching out from dessert-for-breakfast territory and trying one of their sandwiches. Although realistically, I'll probably still leave with a cookie.

Still, the staff is always nice and patient, and I'll definitely keep coming back for the treats!

Walking in, the line was short but the staff took a really long time servicing people. Since it's a 2hr drive from SF to Sac, you know I'm about to bulk buy. The case had a good selection but quite a few were sold out already. Everything looks really delicious but I had to control myself. Almond Croissant $7.50 - I don't remember what this tasted like so it must've been standard. Matcha Croissant $9 - Don't let the price deter you because for $9, you get a big filling croissant and it was honestly so delicious. The dipped part was like a white chocolate matcha and the inside matcha filling was so good. I don't know how but I fridged it and ate it the next day, IT WAS STILL CRISPY! This was the highlight and highly recommend getting it. Blueberry Choux $11 - This was also really good too. The blueberry filling was creamy and delicious. It tasted really fresh. Macarons $2.95 each - Standard stuff. I got a Thai coconut cream and this is a flavor I haven't seen before and recommend trying it! In summary, highly recommend trying this place. I ended up buying one chocolate chip cookie, one of the banana caramel cupcakes, one Red Velvet, cupcake, one chocolate and caramel and one vanilla cheesecake. The only one that I thought was decent was the banana and even that was overly sweet and actually not very flavorful. I know that sounds wild, but they just weren't very good.. The cookie was very bland and very un impressive. The only reason I'm giving this three stars is because the kid working behind the counter was pretty nice and the kids I brought the cupcakes home to liked them! I probably will not go there again.
