Red Velvet Cupcake: 2/5. Do not recommend.
    Lynn L.

I walked into this place without any prior research done, I did not check Yelp to see if I should or should not go in. I've seen this place around for YEARS and never went in. Well, I wish I kept it that way. I love cupcakes but this place and the owner doesn't. It's evident. After a quick shopping session, I walked in with my boyfriend and saw there was a worker and a lady there, maybe she was related to the worker, maybe not but they were talking until we walked in. I don't remember if they even greeted us but I could tell they were staring at us, as if we interrupted their private conversation. I looked at the available cupcakes and it didn't take long - the place is small and there's not much to it. The worker answered my question about the cupcake sandwich and I got the red velvet. She comes through the wooden gate and grabs the cupcake without gloves. She didn't use hand sanitizer before touching the food item...She doesn't even use tongs or a piece of paper as a barrier between her and the pastry. Ummm. She touches the wooden gate again and rings me up. My boyfriend and I looked at each other and I knew what he was thinking. "This place does not believe in wearing gloves." "Does the worker have common sense?" He asked me if I was sure if I wanted that and I think something came over me because I somehow paid $5 for a cupcake that someone touched with their bare hands. Was I bewitched? Was I possessed? I walked out of there a little stunned. Dazed. My boyfriend said I needed to grow some balls and say no because that was GROSS. Unprofessional and unhygienic. Oh, and the cupcake wasn't all that good. I cut off the top part where she touched it with her ungloved hand and cut a bit of the cupcake to try. Cream cheese frosting isn't what I am used to and didn't surprise me in a good way... the cupcake is underwhelming and while it didn't taste freezer burnt nor did it break apart, it's not something I'll rave about and this place? I won't be returning. Avoid, avoid, avoid, and did I mention AVOID??????? DO NOT GO HERE!

I'm so concerned about the negative reviews lol I ordered from DoorDash so I might not even know but the cupcakes are freaking delicious and my boyfriend thinks so as well! He wants to buy more hoping will go very soon for the service I don't know but I'd say pretty good since the packages it amazing! I ordered the 1 dozen mini cupcakes

I used to treat my kiddo to these a few times a month and stopped as the quality has declined tremendously since they first open. We were in the area and my kiddo (now a teen) pleaded for me to make a stop, citing it reminds her of her younger years. Despite my apprehension, we made the stop, and selected a dozen. These cupcakes are the perfect example of "looks can be deceiving." The icings are painfully sweet and when I took a bite of the cake, it was oddly hard and stale. Absolutely, disgusting! Shame on them for selling cupcakes that has to be weeks old. This is far from gourmet and belongs in the trash. For the prices they charge, do yourself a favor and go support a real baker that will make you fresh cupcakes using quality ingredients. The sad truth is, regular groceries stores cupcakes tastes much better than these for 1/4 of the cost. By the way, the young gal working the counter had the personality matching the taste of the cupcakes.

    Lemon Cupcake
    Amanda H.

I had a lemon cupcake from here: The presentation of their cupcakes was good, albeit with a lot of food coloring. The cupcake itself had okay texture, but seemed to be lacking depth of flavor. The inner lemon filling was a pleasant surprise, appropriately tart. However, the frosting itself was unbearably sweet and quite dense, like a spoonful of sugar. I think I'd rather eat the cupcake without the frosting, if at all, but all things considered, I might opt to purchase cupcakes from the grocery store next time.

Usually I'm skeptical about negative Yelp reviews and want to see or try for myself. In this case, the reviews are true. Cupcakes are cold and hard. The frosting is as dense as the cupcakes are and the flavors are a bit bland. Service was friendly, but I'm not eating that. :( Bummer....we really wanted to like this place.

I've stopped coming by to check out their selection because every time I do, I become irrationally angry thinking about how delicious these cupcakes used to be. Not to mention they no longer advertise their daily cupcakes so you just have to take a risk by walking in and getting stuck with something like a gluten free blackberry cheesecake that feels like it's scratching your throat the whole way down. If you want some cupcakes, save yourself some money and just go down to your local Bel Air or Nugget and order yourself a dozen cupcakes for no more than $12/dozen and they'll taste just as good or better.

I've been coming to Estelle's Bakery & Patisserie for years since I used to live only a block away,…read moreso it became one of my favorite places to walk to for tea and desserts. I've since moved out of state, but during my last visit in January this year, the treats and drinks were just as delicious as I remembered. This was always one of my favorite spots to spend a few hours catching up with girlfriends over tea and pastries. The ambience is lovely and gives off fancy tea party vibes, making it perfect for casual conversations, book discussions, or just relaxing with something sweet. My personal favorites are the rose macaron and the mont blanc desserts. If I'm feeling hungry, I usually order the ratatouille, and the vanilla bean French toast is amazing when I want something sweet but filling. Matcha is always my go-to drink here too (though it's on the sweet side, so I don't think it's ceremonial grade). I remember my first visit; It was when I stopped by later in the day looking for a birthday cake for my son's 8th birthday about five years ago. I ended up choosing their chocolate mousse cake on a whim since it was one of the cakes they still had on display, and it turned out to be a good decision. My son loved it, but it was too chocolatey for me so he ended up having most of the cake. Still one of the memories I remember most from here. It was something I kept in mind that if I wanted more options and variety, I should arrive earlier in the day. There are a few downsides that keep this from being a full 5 stars for me though. The parking lot is very small and street parking can be difficult, especially during busy hours. The place gets crowded very easily, which is why I usually preferred walking there when I lived nearby. There's often a guard stationed at the front kindly holding the door open, though I imagine that's also due to the neighborhood. Pricing is definitely on the expensive side, but honestly that's fairly expected with a patisserie. My biggest issue is that service can noticeably decline when they're overwhelmed. Depending on when you visit, the line can get absurdly long (almost out the front door), and I've experienced slower service and even had my drink mixed up with another customer's order once. Since I order oat milk due to lactose intolerance, getting the order correct is pretty important. Thankfully, when the bakery isn't overly busy and adequately staffed, the employees are attentive, friendly, and very helpful with the ordering process if you have questions. It is still one of the Sacramento bakeries I miss after moving away. It was so lovely to have a bakery down the street from home.
