Amy who owns the business and teaches the classes is a great teacher, an excellent potter, and has an amazing attitude. In a class like this people's pots fall, or they mess up a throw often as they learn but Amy has such an optimistic attitude and helps people come up with what purpose their new creation can serve. Amy clearly works very hard to make this a place for artists to bloom and discover themselves, which is intoxicating. The studio is well equipped and while taking a class you can come in outside of class time to throw and practice. This is a great opportunity to practice and get more wheel time outside of the two hours of class a week. They also offer painting and have lots of fun things to paint with many beautiful glazes!

In years past there was a nice variety of ceramic pieces to choose from. Now things have changed so much that we won't ever go there again. The selection of projects to paint is very small and very limited. You may see an already painted piece on display that you want to paint but they do not have it. They hardly have anything. It used to be that you could use their restroom in the back and wash your hands too, but they no longer let you do that. They make you leave the store and go down the mall to the restrooms. If you are going to have a business that has customers there for a few hours, a restroom should be available. As it is you leave there with paint on your hands and have to go find the restrooms to wash up. The whole business has gone down hill so badly it is no longer a pleasant experience. Ceramic stock is very low and hard to even find something you want to paint. There are many other places to go to paint ceramics in the Denver area. Choose one of those!

You also receive a drink with your experience. It was a 2 hour experience. The first 10 minutes was waiting for people to settle down. Next 20 was watching the instructor tell us what to do. Then she did it again but this time, going step by step with us following each of her steps. My first one turned out amazing. But then the second and third time around, I forgot the step by step instructions and my pieces had to be thrown out lol. But my fourth time, I asked her to repeat the steps and once I got that down, my fourth, fifth, and sixth pieces were spot on. It took a while to get the hang of it but once I got, it was fun! Same with my partner. We had to stop with 30 minutes left. 15 minutes was for us to clean our stations. The last 15 minutes was to select which of our two pieces we wanted to take home and submit it on their website. I understand it probably sucks to have to clean all of the stations alone but I think we only spent about an hour actually throwing clay- the rest was waiting for people to settle down to start, watching her instruct, cleaning, and selecting our pieces. It took me a while to get the hang of throwing on my own so it would have been nice to actually throw for a little bit longer (even just an extra 15 min) since we paid for 2 full hours. Anyway, I'm looking forward to see how our pieces turn out once they are colored and glazed. The instructor was friendly and smiley.

Some reflections based on my experience: - Through the communications, it was not clear to our party planner that the fee wouldn't actually be $95pp, but $120 once the mandatory tip was included. - It was a surprise to me that a third piece would cost another $15. Maybe this was communicated, but I missed it. - The structure of the evening, which another review lays out, includes about 30 minutes of clean up and paying via app. - The studio wrote our names on the bottom of each piece for us (so don't expect to do a special signature) - The studio glazed the pieces for us through a dip glaze, which in some cases was super uneven (see photos). - They do not provide wrapping or bags to take your pieces home in. - One of our pieces was chipped after firing and this was not communicated upon pick up. Another piece was fired with the rim having a strange divot that is actually kind of sharp.

What a great day! My husband and I just love local art, and supporting these artists. I hadn't…read moreheard of the Jackalope Arts festival, which apparently appears every year just up the street from me in Olde Arvada. We went out on this sunny and warm October day, glad to enjoy some time outdoors in the sun. We were greeted, as well, with an enjoyable stroll through local venue booths sporting everything from beeswax products to locally mixed spices to jewelry made from local stones (think petrified wood and Marble's marble, among many others). I was drawn to the designs at a T-shirt shop, and when I couldn't find my size in the design I wanted, they assured me that I could email them and they would make it for me and send it along to my home. The jewelry maker at Waystone (mywaystone.com) promised that if I could bring her a piece of petrified wood that I had discovered in my backyard, she would make it into something special to display in my home. While she accepts items through mail, since she is just down I-70 just east of Denver, I mean to bring it right to her. I was excited to visit this arts fair, and came away with some nice items, along with the cards of some artisans to whom I will reach out for some custom items. What a great way to spend a glorious fall day outside!
