Lester's Diner is a popular cult classic for extremely late night dinners after arrivals to the Fort Lauderdale airport. In fact when a flight attendant offered me a snack, I declined saying that I would get food after the flight landed. She said either Lester's or Denny's. I am a Lester's fan! The service is fast and friendly. Frequently I have flights that arrive around midnight and very few businesses are open then. Moreover I do not feel like cooking! I stop at Lester's and order a few takeout meals. Then I can relax at home and enjoy the fine Lester's meals until I feel ready to buy groceries and cook again. We are out of town visitors. When I saw Lester's diner, I wanted to come by and check it out. It did not disappoint. Some of the waitresses had a little New York attitude. But that did not stop me. Good old fashioned diner. As the diner life is slowly fading, it's nice to see places like Lester's still thriving. The Saturday morning breakfast rush was at its peak when we entered. We waited about 10 mins to be seated, but our waitress was there in mins. We ordered the El Greco skillet, country fried steak and a side of biscuits and gravy. Delicious food and good portions. I must mention the coffee was acceptable. Not the best but not the worst. Not just our waitress, but all staff members we interacted with were lovely. Or you come because places like this are becoming harder and harder to find. I came for all of the above. Lester's has been one of those dependable Fort Lauderdale diners for years, and I always seem to end up ordering one of two things: eggs with potatoes and a bagel, or a burger and fries. They've never let me down. Their spanakopita is also worth mentioning. Made the traditional Greek way, it's one of those hidden gems on the menu that doesn't get enough attention. This visit, though, I decided to color outside the lines. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak omelette. The eggs were cooked just right. The peppers and cheese worked well together, but I thought the filling needed a little more seasoning. It wasn't bad by any stretch... just a bit bland for something inspired by a Philly cheesesteak. We also started with the onion rings, and those were excellent. Crispy on the outside, tender onions inside, and exactly what an onion ring should be. My wife went with the chocolate chip pancakes. Calling them "large" doesn't do them justice. These things arrived looking like they had their own ZIP code. They were fluffy, loaded with chocolate chips, and the kind of breakfast that makes you question whether lunch is even necessary. But the real star of the meal wasn't on the menu. It was our server, Olivia. Let's be honest. Waiting tables at a diner may not be anybody's dream job, but you never would've known it from the way she took care of us. She was friendly, helpful, attentive, and seemed to be everywhere she needed to be before we even realized we needed something. I'd come back just for her service. Five stars for Olivia. Four stars for Lester's. Sometimes a restaurant isn't about chasing perfection. It's about being exactly what you need it to be, exactly when you need it. I love Lester's. Any place that's open in the middle of the night and has a long counter is always going to be entertaining. I dropped my wife off at the airport at 4:00 am and headed here to officially start my day. I am always grateful and somewhat amazed at the positive attitudes of people working at this time of the day. My only disappointment was that I ordered hash browns, but got home fries instead. No big deal; I could have been happy with any of the choices. But the potatoes were big and hard and seemed precooked long ago. I also got a Philly omelette with chicken and there was almost too much chicken in there. And that was hard too. I've never had a hard omelette before. So I probably would create my own omelette next time without the chicken. And yes, there will be a next time, because it's Lester's and I still love this place. read more

This really wasn't my first, second or third choice in terms of getting a late night bite. I arrived after a few delays to Fort Lauderdale airport and went to the car rental place but the car rental place was closed so as I tried to kill some time and mull over my options I decided to get some food. We got there maybe around 1 AM on a Saturday morning, and as you can expect it was pretty slow. They were maybe 15 people here chatting lowly to themselves minus the group of ladies in my section who I'm not sure were ending or just starting their night. When you walk in there's two sides - one to the right and one to your left and straight ahead is the bar area with seating. The menu was pretty good. It offered quite a few different options from Greek to Italian to American. There wasn't a ton of options in each category but a good variety of cuisines. The food was simply alright. We ordered: Greek Burger which was topped with melted feta cheese, sliced cucumber, tomato, onion and house Greek sauce for $14.99. We ordered it with a side of coleslaw and that was really good actually. Perfect balance. I needed more of the Greek sauce for it to really stand out. Otherwise it didn't really taste special and I would have went with a different option. We also had the Greek combo which had the baked spinach pie, baked moussaka, baked pastitsio, stuffed grape leaves, served with rice all for 18.99 dollars. We mostly picked around on this place. The spinach pie was a hit! The moussaka we were split on if it was good or not. The grape leaves were solid. The pastitsio we both gave thumbs down to. It felt like it needed some more juice from the meat. It looks like there aren't a ton of late night options to choose from. So you might end up here or one of their other 3 locations across the area. If so my advice is to stick with their breakfast items. Looking at other plates, they looked a bit more pleased with their food than us. After all the food you eat you pay at the end up up front right by the entrance / exit. I wish I went to Lester's sooner. I'm a real fan of Diners and this is one of the best! They have real pies, Southern (charm) service and almost anything you could want on a menu. I had a tuna melt with cheddar cheese on the bread, a pickle, and coslaw. We then ordered cherry pie a la model and a black and white cookie. My only complaint was that the pie wasn't warmed up, and the cookie had the hard royal icing and not the soft one. Other than that the food was SO GOOD and it was a fun environment. read more

Tucked away on its own near a business park (which is always a good sign in my books) this place has all the right retro vibes, from the atmosphere to the menu. The food was even better than expected. The beef brisket was fantastic! Packed with flavor and super tender. The meatloaf sandwich was just as impressive, seasoned perfectly and stacked with a generous double slice of meatloaf that made it extra satisfying. The beef brisket open sandwich (sensing a theme?) was smothered in gravy which was very good. They're also known for their huge cups of coffee, though we skipped it this time. As a loyal patron of Lester's Diner for over 30 years, it is disappointing to write this review, but the current lack of enforcement regarding health and safety codes is unacceptable. During a recent visit to the Margate location, I witnessed a guest hand-feeding a dog at the table and allowing the animal to put its head directly into a drinking glass. Because the staff did not intervene, I notified management and departed. I subsequently visited the location on State Road 84, where I observed another dog sitting inside a booth with its head on the table. Rather than enforcing health standards, the server actively petted the animal. While I respect pet-friendly environments, allowing animals onto dining surfaces and eating utensils crosses a line for a standard indoor restaurant. read more

I had relatives visiting from out of the country and I wanted them to have a diner experience. It's been a while since I've been to this location and I was impressed. The interior has been renovated and it was clean. It took a little for our server to come to our table after we were seated. We were thinking that this wasn't going to be a good experience but she showed up a few minutes later and thankfully, we didn't have any issues during our visit. I ordered a sausage, egg & cheese on croissant. The croissant looked almost too pretty to eat (you can't tell from my picture). My husband and cousin ordered the Lester's 2-2-2. My other cousin ordered the Western Omelet. They were amazed at the portion sizes. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Our server and other servers periodically walked by while we were eating, asking if we wanted a refill of coffee. Loved that! The food here has always been excellent. Been coming here over 20 years. Bagels are always fresh and must come from a local bakery. Crispy and fluffy on the inside. I get breakfast every time I come and it never disappoints. One time I thought the waitress wasn't listening and I thought she got our order wrong. It was my mistake to even think that because not only did she nail everything on the order, everything was incredibly delicious! Not to mention cheap! The server was personable, though I wished we had been checked on a little more. Unfortunately, the food just wasn't good to me. I got the tuna melt as this is one of my favorite "nostalgia dishes," yet was completely underwhelmed. The tuna tasted as if it came straight from the can, no flavor or variety of ingredients added. My niece got a kids grilled cheese with fries, and her entire plate was cold (you could tell it had been sitting). The server took it to the back and brought it back the same way. Lester's is, quite simply, a really good old-school diner. Nothing fancy here, just well prepared breakfast and lunch. They've been doing this right since the 60's and are still here for a reason! They use some kind of pasteurized cheese slice instead of squish, and most of the meat was grissel, they gave me water down south island ,no Russian. I was in town for a few days and decided to try a local diner. Lester's looked quite popular so I went on a Wednesday morning at 7:30AM and I loved my dining experience here! The place was clean with friendly servers, and the service was super fast! I ordered a latte and I am not lying when I say this was the best latte I ever had at a restaurant! One of the servers was also constantly making his rounds to make sure your coffee cup is always filled which I thought was wonderful! I decided to order the El Greco Skillet. I loved how they added Greek inspired options along with the typical breakfast food you would usually find in a diner, and the Tiziki sauce on the side with the gyro and potato hash mixed in the skillet really hit the spot! The waitress had warned me that it was too big for me, but I thought "that's fine I will eat the rest for lunch!" I ended up splitting it into lunch later in the day and breakfast the next day and still couldn't finish the rest by the time I had to leave Fort Lauderdale. For someone with a big appetite you can might be able to finish it in 2 sittings! This restaurant sits in a business park close to the airport. They were quick to take our order.. menu lacks in variety overall. At least for the lunch and dinner.The 222 breakfast platter was ordered and more than half of it was cold. Italian wedding soup was order. Their version of it was very good and I highly recommend it. Their chicken salad is made in house with nice chunks of chicken in it. That I also recommend.. except for the one meal being cold. Everything else was above average. Lester's has been open since 1968 (in its original location) and has been a staple. I tend to stop by here after picking up people from the airport or flying in myself. Obviously it's a diner so don't expect fine dining. But I think it's a great place. The last time I went I thought I took a pic, but guess not. I got the build your own omelette and I added tomato onions and mozzarella. I also ordered hashbrowns well done with rye bread. It was so good but I was so full I could not eat the bread. The Napoleon and eclair cakes tempted my mom so she bought a couple pieces to bring home. Sarah L took care of us and she was great.
