Tanner Excavating is AMAZING!…read more We recently needed to have our orangeburg sewer pipe replaced from our house to the sewer main in the street. After speaking to several companies, we chose to have Tanner Excavating (family-owned business based in Dexter, Michigan) complete our job. Pat and Alicia Tanner are the owners and their children also work in the business as well as an additional 3 great guys. From our first contact with Pat and Alicia, we were impressed with their responsiveness, professionalism, communication, and their critical thinking skills surrounding the specifics of our job. Pat came over the same day and immediately noticed our extensive landscaping near the house and offered several ideas for alternative approaches for completing the work. I was especially concerned about a beautiful, large red maple tree which was right next to where they needed to dig. The crew came up with solutions to preserve the tree and worked carefully to protect the rest of my landscaping. (They will be back in the spring time to finish up the finer details that couldn't be done in the winter!)( Pat communicated with me regularly as he began pulling permits with the city and lining up the start date. He brought over his crew a few days early to look at the work that needed to be done, to meet me, and to answer all of my questions. It was clear from the way that Pat interacted with his crew that he valued and respected them and their work ... and it was clear that Pat had been doing this kind of work himself for years. They tossed ideas around together and collaborated on solutions. It was also clear that his crew enjoy working for Tanner Excavating. They later repeatedly told me how much they feel valued and taken care of by Pat, the owner. I love that the crew feels valued and respected! The crew encountered unexpected and unheard of difficulties in the roadway but they consistently conveyed patience, confidence, problem solving skills, and passion for what they were doing. Abe, Michael, and Zane were super friendly and remained positive and optimistic in all of our interactions and through all of the challenges in the roadway. I loved that they welcomed all of my questions and encouraged me to come and watch what they were doing because I was so curious. Abe, Michael, and Zane made the tough work in the roadway look easy -- even after our 2-3 day job turned into a 6 day job due to these unforeseen circumstances! Pat Tanner consistently demonstrated a very strong sense of integrity, honesty, and work ethic! Even though the job became more extensive than originally expected and quoted, our final price was exactly the same as our quoted price. When I said that I felt badly that our job was more extensive than expected and that he may have lost money on our job, Pat responded with "Yes, it did take more than twice as long to complete than anticipated, but I told you a price ahead of time and that is what I am sticking to ... because that is just what you do!" The entire crew and team at Tanner are friendly, approachable, knowledgable, and professional, people who do a great job! I completely trust them and have been recommending them to everyone I know. It is not often that one can excitedly rave about an independent contractor ... but I am certainly filled with positive feedback about Tanner Excavating!

We had a clog pipe somewhere on our property. Michigan Power Rodding was called and they were unable to get through a clog. They sent a camera down our pipe and the camera hit a clog somewhere outside, possibly a collapsed sewer pipe. We called Tanner Excavating, and several other companies, to get quotes for the work. Mr. Patrick Tanner came out within 24 hours and gave us a ballpark number for replacing the clay pipe from our PVC pipe to the city pipe in the street, complicated by removing a tree on the easement. One company never showed up and one company didn't want to deal with the tree. Within the next 24-48 hours, Mr. and Mrs. Tanner had already communicated with a tree removal company to get a quote for the removal, communicated with the City to determine what was needed to start the work, communicated with me about a possible schedule to complete the work and sent me a complete quote for the work, which was within his ballpark estimate. After we signed the agreement, his crew arrived the day before I was told they would start to bring equipment. Abe and Zane were very professional, friendly and reassuring. The sewer line runs under our water line and they were impressively skilled with that heavy machinery. The extent of digging was also less than what I thought it would be. At the end of each day, Abe and Zane were able to reconnect our sewer so it was functional, fenced off the work site for safety, and kept our lawn, street and sidewalk clean. When we encountered another complication, Mr. Tanner, Abe and Zane went into troubleshooting mode. It was clear to me watching them interact, that Mr. Tanner respects his crew and his crew respects him. I cannot stress enough how professional, adept and kind they all were during a really stressful time. All told, Tanner Excavating dug up and replaced our sewer pipe, repoured our concrete curb, resurfaced the asphalt street where they dug, added topsoil, leveled and reseeded our lawn, documented everything with pictures and video, and were done in 4 1/2 working days.

The workers came over on time and were very nice, but apparently there was some question about the integrity of the hoop itself. They installed it without asking any questions, and after they left I noticed the hoop could only extend to a max of 6 feet tall, rendering it useless. Why wouldn't you talk to me before you cemented it in? Now I'm out $225 and all they offered to do is cut it down and I got the reply " we did what you asked us to do." * update: the "Fabulous Mr. Fix It" still hasn't removed the hoop as promised. I had them come out one year ago (2022) in the fall to replace my roof. They came in one day and…read morethere were several issues. The main issue I had was all the flashing is wavy and not put back correctly -- looks like I did it and that doesn't say much. They also tore holes in my screens, left so much stuff behind including: several tools (left on the roof and in the lawn), the waking platform they added to put up the roof, and asked to keep the big truck in my driveway overnight, which I found odd. I asked the owner the come take a look at what was wrong, he did and assured me the workers would come back and fix it. They did come back but said it was too cold to actually fix the wavy flashing (supposedly you need warm weather to put up straight flashing) and they would come back this spring (2023) to fix it. I've text the owner several times to come back and am 'assured' they will come back but NOTHING. Here I am a year later and I am now going to pay someone to come fix it. Be careful, they do not stand behind their work to come fix things -- they are on to the next job. I really trusted them and I'm sad they are not following up. Very disappointed.

I've been up on the roof numerous times cleaning gutters and whatnot, and everything seems top notch. We are now in the process of selling our home, due to a corporate relocation. The buyer's inspector found a minor leak near the chimney. I called Burke's and asked them if they could come out and take a look at it. Mike Burke himself came out and took a look and determined that some flashing had been damaged by a raccoon that had tried to claw his way into our home. Even though this was not Burke's fault, he said that he would repair the damage at no cost because the roof was still under warranty. He didn't even ask to see any paperwork or receipts or anything. Mike Burke did a great job on the repair, was very professional and courteous, and I would totally hire him in a heartbeat if I ever needed a new roof in this area -- and he has a *solid* hand shake. I would give this guy 6 stars if I could.

We were trying very hard to be ready for the home to go on the real estate market in March. Neighborhood keep us abreast of the weather/schedule and came and did the job as soon as the weather allowed. They kept both the integrity of the roof and the need to meet a time deadline in mind and really helped us out. We are homeowners not roofing professionals, it was nice to know that they've been in Ann Arbor for so long, to know that they are well thought of in the community. We were able to trust them in their pricier advice. And for the scope of the work I feel the price was fair. A roof costs money, doing a roof the right way costs money but at least I know we paid a fair price for a job well done. They offer a long warranty and it's for the roof not for the owner so it transfers to new owners easily. And we know from conversations with multiple real estate agents that the warranty is solid! They were also happy to coordinate with our painter so he could do some painting work along side and in conjunction. Beware of Joe Hileman …read more He is completely dishonest . He met with us and presented himself as a father and son company . Not at all . We never saw him pick up a hammer! Never saw his son again either . Instead we saw several crews of non English speaking men mulling around our property. Anytime we did see Joe he never had time to talk with us . Was always in a hurry to get to another appointment. Basically , we had a new roof installed, some trim and some siding which he installed the wrong kind that doesn't match. Trim doesn't match either! They used my shingles,! So the job should have not cost so much ? Nope . They removed a concrete slab that we didn't want to be moved . They removed barn doors and never replaced them . They never completed the job! They left gutters off too . The whole experience was a nightmare. I could go on and on about all of this companies mistakes. We don't speak Spanish so we were unable to communicate with his workers. The worst was the bill ! Unbelievable. The bottom line was to have a bunch of Mexicans on my property for two months all needing a paycheck! Absolutely, no communication whatsoever with Hileman .
