We walked away from this house once because of that, but when the house came back on the market, we knew this was the home for us! We purchased it "eyes wide open" knowing we had to do something with the stairs. We spoke to a lot of knowledgeable people who all said the same thing. This would be a challenging job because the stairs would have to be demolished and rebuilt, but we still only had the space that was there to get the correct rise and tread sizes, which would impact the head space at the bottom. In other words, a tall person would have to duck...and this would never do! I had three carpenters look at my stairs. The first carpenter shook his head and said he had no clue where to start. The second carpenter was Brian from B&C, who I found through an online search and was blown away by their great reviews and the pictures of their amazing work! Brian immediately started calculating available space, and thinking outside the box. His knowledge and transparency inspired me to have great confidence in him and his price was super reasonable! The third carpenter came across as this being not a great challenge, which I knew better, and proceeded to give me a price that was nearly double of Brian's. So, our choice was clear. Brian had pre construction meetings with us to keep us apprised of his plans, as well as meetings during the construction. After calculating and brainstorming with his crew, he said he could reframe the ceiling at the bottom to give more head space. He also discussed cutting into and reframing the top landing to get additional space. Brian kept us informed each step of the way and his craftsmanship was impressive. We started the work on November 1, with our only deadline being completed before Thanksgiving. Brian completed our work in about 10 days! While I did post a couple of finished photos, B&C's websites will have good before and after pictures. I wholeheartedly recommend B&C for any carpentry job. You will get honesty, integrity, transparency, great communication, fair pricing and old fashioned craftsmanship!

They installed one on my house last year -- it has been great, no more leaks! Also, Ace provides excellent service after sale -- for example, I had bats coming in from the porch area -- Bill and his crew came over and fixed the opening (not actually part of the roof)! Then I had an issue with a gutter that did not drain properly -- they also came over and fixed that -- and installed a new drain spout, as part of their commitment to over all customer experience and satisfaction. Again, technically not part of the roof that they installed, but they fixed it anyways! They are not the cheapest in terms of price -- but you get what you pay for: Ace is a top level company in the field of roofing, even though they don't have big name recognition. THE SHORT: Unethical business practices and too many better options in the market. Fellow…read morecontractors and homeowners should steer clear. Lester brothers is a better source of top soil, mulch and gravel. Sandy's Landscape is a better alternative for landscape supplies and installations. But I'd certainly never do business with Wilcox again. THE LONG: We ordered 10 yards of 411 limestone and 2 yards of #10 limestone. We received 2.5 yards of #10 and 6.5 yards of 411. We honestly assumed they were gonna do two truckloads and called to see when they would be out to deliver the second load. The receptionist laughed at me and transferred me to the owner. The owner proceeded to tell me I was an idiot and probably over excavated our area by 3.5" average. We formed and transit leveled an average of 4.5". We were shooting for 4" and were anywhere from 3.5-5.5" at the deepest. Let's call it an average of 4.5" (to be generous to them). The forms were 32' long and 13 feet wide. That comes out to 5.7 yards (being generous). Plus we poured some at the entrance of the patio (let's call it a yard to be generous). 6-7 yards. Whats weird is that we got the right amount of #10. Im guessing they could bring in a few hundred thousand dollars a year doing this and honestly, who is forming up their gravel/mulch? This was a unique situation where we wanted a perfectly sloped base so we screeded the gravel like concrete. To fix it we had to order a second load of 10 yards and pay for it. This time I measured the truck. If the truck was full to the brim it would be 10 yards. I'll let you be the judge of whether or not you think that truck in the photo is full. (We got less than 8 yards the second trip-once we got the rest in the forms) We would have ended up short on our own estimate and ended up needing 12 yards total and were prepared to go get a couple yards to fill in around the patio. But got less than half done because we were short so much. We ended up getting less than 15 yards total. we have 2-3 left over and 12 under the patio. Yes, including the compaction rate which is about a half an inch at this depth. The owner and driver were incredible rude throughout the whole process. We invited them out to double check our math. The owner Jeff said he would come out twice to check and remedy and never showed either day. We also invited them to let the driver check out the forms and take measurements while he was out delivering the second load. He never left the truck. We were more than willing to have our math corrected and let them double check the measurements. They were uninterested in resolving it and at the end offered us $100 refund which we refused because it doesn't seem right. We got less than 15 yards and paid for 20. I get why they would do it. I just don't want to have any part of it. I'll let you be the judge. After this was all done I thought back to the last time I used them for mulch delivery. I alway bought bagged mulch and always had extra. I ordered the same from them and came up short. I assumed it was my math. Now I question that. This is how they do business. To give them the benefit of the doubt, Im not sure they even know they are swindling people. They just seem to be uninterested in verifying or correcting it. I'll be making other construction companies aren't getting taken. I'd steer clear if I were you. (See Google reviews for Pictures)
