Hey are you or your kids looking for music lessons over the summer or into the fall? If you like…read moresupporting local businesses and know how important music can be, I suggest this local business as it is Madison Valley's hidden gem. Here is a little bit about me. I have been a student of The Music Factory for 5 years. Here are three things that set them apart from the rest. One, they are super flexible. Lessons can be taken from The Music Factory, online, or even at your own house. Two, the staff are super kind and friendly. Every interaction I have had with them has been wonderful and supportive. Three, The Music Factory is located in a house. It feels like you are at home and the environment is really calming and warm. I really enjoyed my time with the music factory, and I was connected with some awesome people/great musicians and mentors. I was able to explore many new concepts and even a new instrument, and every step of the way was guided by first class musicians. I highly recommend TMF to anyone, but especially adult students who want expert, in-person lessons! I worked specifically on guitar with Blake and drums with Tim, and both of them were really great at gauging where I was at coming in and helping me figure out where I could grow.

For us, it was before, we went in with the idea that the my daughter and her young guest for the show could play together before the concert, getting out some energy and that first half hour of pure joy of seeing each other outside of preschool. The space was fun, not huge, but really great options- an electronic piano (with headphones), a cello and stand up bass were the big hits for the two girls, with a drum game of trying to pound the little wooden frog off the top also winning repetitive play. One of the staff members was really nice and friendly with the girls, immediately learning their names and giving them tips and encouragement to play the cello and bass with the bow. Why not more stars? For us, at almost 5, the girls were bored after about 45 minutes, but younger kids could have likely stayed longer so if this had been last year, for our needs, it would have been bumped up. There was also a class being held but the door was open to it at one point so the girls wandered in, the teacher was pretty 'sharp' getting them to leave, he did apologize to us parents that they couldn't be in there but the harshness towards the kids wasn't required, as soon as we- the parents- realized it wasn't an open event, we moved them out quickly. The person at the front desk might have just told us there was a class going on as well as better signage so the girls didn't feel chastised for something that wasn't clearly communicated.

I enjoyed my meetings with her. She always so the positives and the possibilities, even when it came to my own songs. She was extremely supportive of working on my original music and helped me feel confident with the few songs I wrote that were pretty high on my range. She's also a very real person, so we could focus but we could also laugh or acknowledge if we were struggling a bit that day. She offers all of her students, piano and singing, to participate in a recital that is hosted by an elderly care facility for which she volunteers her time, I believe to do singing or choir. I suggest for any potential student to take that opportunity in that low stress environment with Kristen's support and other supportive students to practice being in front of people. Also, the residents really appreciated it. While meeting in person would have been nice and probably has some advantages, working remotely was really convenient and still quite effective. I highly recommend Seattle City Music with Kristen for your vocal or piano lessons!
