She is incredibly patient, warm and encouraging - both kids have responded well and thrived on her style of teaching. She focuses not just on the technical aspects of playing but also on the artistry of the pieces. We are amazed at how both our kids have developed a love for playing over the last few years. She clearly loves what she does and is able to transfer that love of music onto her students. We whole-heartedly recommend her as a one of a kind piano instructor!

She helped him discover a genuine love for music, for the piano, and confidence in himself and his abilities. She has a remarkable balance of patience, enthusiasm, encouragement, and discipline that was just perfect for him. He loves piano, and practices for the sheer joy of it, but he also practices because he wants to earn her praise. Her twice-yearly recitals have been absolutely formative for him, helping him gain self-confidence, pride, and an ease with performing in front of others. He started with her when he was in kindergarten, and it has been a joy to watch him grow with her over the years. Can't recommend her highly enough. We love Stephanie!

I came to Katie the first year of Pandemic/Quarantine to start piano lessons as an adult with no…read moreexperience. Katie's teaching brings-together passion for music and composers, an understanding of learning through physiology and neuroscience-informed pedagogy, a frankness and understanding in the difficulty, as well as a desire to better work for the student in-line with what they want. Among instruments, piano presents unique motion challenges that may seem insurmountable for an adult just starting in the middle of their life. Katie's integration of Feldenkrais teachings, as well as the supplementary courses she offers, can gradually unwind stubborn joints and limbs. Although I signed up strictly to learn music, I am finally able to move my shoulders and neck freely. Finally, the opportunities Katie has given her students to play recitals remotely during Pandemic, play concerts in churches, take Dalcroze workshops or work one-on-one with master teachers means that lessons are only the beginning for what's on offer. Highly recommended.

Katie is an excellent piano instructor. My 12 year old daughter Jasmine has received piano lessons…read morefrom Katie since 2011 at the Bellingham Academy of Music. Learning a new instrument raised new challenges in the beginning. Jasmine would rarely practice on her own, but Katie found ways to motivate her to practice, practice, practice. Something as simple as a practice log goes a long way. The letdown of handing over an empty practice log really motivated Jasmine to practice. I began to noticed a huge boost in her confidence and great progression in her musical abilities. Katie made that happen. Although, we were sad to see Katie go, we wish her nothing but the best.
