Back again, this time with the son of neighbors that lived down the street from us in California. He was now grown up and had a family of his own, so it was pretty much of a festive occasion. The menu of Leroy Fox is terrific and difficult to describe here. Yes, they have excellent fried chicken, a great bar, super service and unique ways of putting together simple components. Wife loves cauliflower, so had the Thai chili version ($13.95) which she washed down with Something About Mary blood Mary's at $12. We each had two of those by the time we left. I had the Lollipop Legs ($19.99), my favorite, of four chicken legs literally stuck into a pile of mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts with bacon and pan gravy. Good enough to die for. Our guest had a huge steak salad ($24.50) that also went well with bloody Marys. Come early, as this is a popular place. We sat in the booths, which are more quiet than on the main floor, so opt to sit here is conversation is important. This visit was based on a quarterly luncheon and it had the most votes to come here. First the location is tucked in a corner in shared parking lot with Eddies Place which means finding a parking spot can be challenging. Second very loud inside. We ordered pretzel bites, pimento cheese dip, buffalo chicken dip and fried zucchini strips. The pretzels were delicious I ordered the honey glazed salmon with Brussel sprouts without bacon and cheese grits. I had lemon drop mocktail. Dessert was banana pudding. I love stopping here for lunch but was bummed to learn today they no longer have the black bean wrap on their menu. As a vegetarian it's nice to have options at restaurants but unfortunately they no longer do there. I had a bowl which was ok, but not up to par like the wrap was. Overall the service is always kind and great. The menu does have many options but unfortunately not something for my personal preferences anymore. The space is clean and welcoming. read more

Being from out of state, we like to try restaurants that we can't find back home. Leroy Fox came as a recommendation from my sister-in-law and let me tell you, this fried chicken sandwich was everything. This was one of two places we thoroughly enjoyed our entire trip. Unfortunately the rest of the places we tried were just meh. But not Leroy Fox! We went in around lunchtime and were met with a mostly empty restaurant but that meant quick service. Be aware - groups of 5+ incur an automatic 20% gratuity. The restaurant was clean and comfortable with both indoor and outdoor seating. My friend chicken sandwich came topped with hot and tasty gravy. The chicken was juicy and had just the right amount of crisp. This is definitely a kid friendly spot. They also have a patio for better weather. We stopped in for brunch and the food was delicious. There's a long bar area if you want to sit and watch a game, or if you're on your own. Portions were big and I had a whole meal of leftovers. My food was delicious, taken from the brunch menu. Bad experience at this location. I would NOT suggest eating here if you have allergies. We love the southend location, unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience at this one. We requested a GF bun and no croutons on the salad (celiac). The sandwich initially came out on a regular bun, and when we tried to confirm with the runner he had no idea if it was or not. We only realized it wasn't because we compared it to another sandwich that wasn't GF. After sending it back, the replacement sandwich came on a gluten-free bun, but the salad clearly had croutons picked off, with breadcrumbs still throughout it. Service was extremely slow. It took a long time to receive simple items like pickles and onions, and we never received the onions at all. The remake took far too long, especially with only about seven tables in the restaurant. Our server was kind but checked on us so infrequently that I eventually went to the server station myself to grab ketchup and mustard. When I talked to our server, we were told the kitchen was to blame. When I talked to the manager, she blamed it on the fact they were short a server, which didn't explain the food errors or lack of attention. For a $100 meal for 2, the experience wasn't worth it. We've had great experiences at the South End location in the past and were really looking forward to tonight, which made this visit especially disappointing. We frequent Leroy Fox about once a year when we are in Charlotte to see family. They provide good food, fast service and a reasonable price. The side items are the best! We recommend the Mac and cheese, green bean casserole, and sweet potato tater tots. We aren't giving a 5 star review today because the quality of the meat isn't there. On April 21, four of us ladies were led to the booth at the very back of the restaurant next to the restrooms. This was 11:30 am with only two other scattered tables occupied. Same number again when we left at 1:00. There was a strong odor of disinfectant as the staff were in the process of cleaning the restrooms. We could have requested a change, but we were settled in and chose to remain. The service and food were ok. When the bills came, there were numerous mistakes but some in our party didn't wish to make a fuss. The other indignity was the 20% gratuity was added even though the menu specified only 5 or more in the party should have this added. I was being treated for my birthday and had chosen this restaurant, so it was embarrassing to have my friends treated so poorly. We are senior ladies and I admit a suspicion we were prejudged as to where to be seated, and what we would leave as a tip. I have apologized to my friends for bringing them to this restaurant. Haven't been here in a minute due to the price but decided to treat myself for lunch. Ordered the zucchini fries as an appetizer. They were extremely thick & the zucchini was cut into tenders not fries - they were MASSIVE. I wouldn't have ordered if I knew how big they were. The Brussels sprouts with bacon was a bit salty to my taste. They used to come with a sweet glaze drizzled on top which balanced out the salt but I take it they don't do that anymore as my past 2 times were without any glaze (and I won't be ordering them again because of that). Now for the chicken! I ordered the chicken grill & had to send it back due to the meat being undercooked. I'm not a big meat eater so I'm very peculiar about any pinkness or thicker cuts of meat (note that I ordered it well done because of this & it was still undercooked). Once redone, I cut it up into very small pieces and ate about 75% of it. Fries were average; nothing to write home about - not as fresh or hot, they tasted like more of a sat or reheated fry. I was told the 1/4 North chicken was nice & crispy but a bit salty as well. Overall, the restaurant was clean & our server, Serena was kind even when I had issues with my order! Celebrating a coworker for lunch. We were able to make reservations. Our table was ready upon arrival. I wish I could remember our servers name she was great. Very attentive and knew the menu well. Very loud (typical anywhere for lunch) so hard to hear one another. I had the berry almond salad, it is dinner time and I can still taste it. Yummy!!!! I am so excited to try to make this salad at home. I swapped out the chicken for grilled shrimp. Best grilled shrimp ever. And the lettuce was the good lettuce not watery iceberg. I have eaten there and ordered to go , everyone there has been incredible sweet. I hope this place grows and continues to keep their integrity with food and service. Cornbread bits of Jalapeños (not spicy) Mac and cheese feels home made. Mash potatoes looks like it was made with actual potatoes, not that weird boxed mix. It's one of my old favorites in Charlotte. Have been several times in the last 3 months. It is either totally packed or fairly empty. There doesn't seem to be an in-between! I had the chicken tenders (chicken lizzies they call them) and pretzel bites from the appetizers section of the menu. Always hot and fresh. She had the burger with sweet potato tots. I ordered the cookie ice cream sundae for dessert. It looked excellent, but parts of the cookie I couldn't even chew it was sooo hard, like an inedible rock. Not sure what happened there. Maybe cooked it too long? This restaurant, like others, has had staffing shortages so they put a sign and said- please bare with us! I appreciated that.
