Our baby Wade B. was born with a clubfoot. He submitted to weeks of casting and a surgery on his Achilles tendon when he was a teeny tiny infant, then started bracing within hours of his last cast removal, when he was just two months old. His clubfoot has already been corrected, but he has to wear his brace for at least another couple of years to prevent relapse. I've felt so sorry for my little baby boy, but the hope is that he grows up with beautiful, pain-free feet and no memory of the clubfoot struggle. We made our first visit to Lerman & Son about half an hour after Wade got his final cast off. Everything was coordinated by Lerman & Son and our orthopedist's office at Cedars. Parking was slightly annoying (they have a small lot, but it's been full both times I've gone, and the closest street parking is either on Wilshire or in a school zone, neither great options on, say, a weekday afternoon). I had to wait a bit to be seen, but I'd run late on my end, and the people in the office were friendly. My second visit, I was seen right away. Lerman & Son is a family business that goes back over a century to a German shoe manufacturing company that fled during the Nazi years. It's now the go-to place for orthotics and prosthetics for a lot of L.A. area medical practices. I honestly hope someone in this family is a good writer because there's a fantastic multi-generational American novel in there. The office feels like it holds thousands of stories, between the people who work there and the countless patients that come through the doors. Baby Wade is a very cute extra in the Lerman & Son story, and his part has been a happy one, relatively free of drama. The Lerman team had his first boots and bar waiting for him when we arrived that first day, and he's gone back once to get a bigger pair of boots. The clubfoot brace is extremely important, and it's been doing its job since we got it almost six months ago. It looks like a little baby snowboard, and Wade wore it 23 hours a day for the first three months. There was a tearful period of adjustment (that first drive home from Lerman & Sons--when I was stuck in traffic on Wilshire and my baby was wailing in the backseat--was a heartbreaker), but he's used to it now, and things have been so much easier since we switched to nighttime wear in January. His baby feet have also plumped up enough that they no longer slip out of the boots. The staff at Lerman has been super nice to me and my baby. They coo at him and give him compliments, which I of course feel he deserves, and which I love to hear, especially when my son is going through a tough medical issue that he doesn't understand. We still have a lot more bracing to go, but I do think we're past the worst of our clubfoot woes. It's been a journey, and I'm really grateful for nice, competent professionals like the people at Lerman & Son. Our baby's feet have been in excellent hands. read more

In January, I suffered a horrific accident that broke my upper left arm in half. I needed a very sturdy brace to keep this fracture immobile for a couple months. I knew this was not going to be fun, but this amazing company/medical staff helped me through everything and made a very painful day as painless as it could be- even going out of their way to make sure my insurance would reimburse me for the brace and fitting. Really well-trained orthopedic nurses and technicians made absolutely sure this brace would fit perfectly. Ask for Mr. Deepak! Wow, I rarely write reviews but he was exceptional. My mother had to get her back brace adjusted and he helped as we live an hour away. I didn't want to keep driving back for an adjustment. Her brace was too tight the first time with another representative helping. Mr. Deepak went above and beyond in helping her and I have to commend great service as such. I appreciate good customer service and need to explain how much of a Gem he is. Thank you so much for making her feel comfortable, having a good sense of humor and going beyond in helping all the spots on the brace feel ok for her to wear for a long period of time so her fracture can heal. He took the time to explain how to sit/ sleep correctly and what to be aware of as well. Appreciate you and your time in helping, we didn't feel rushed and that says a lot in itself. I was referred to this place by my podiatrist to get custom insoles made. I had to get a referral and approval from my insurance prior to going. Everything about it was okay. It's not a spa, it's an orthotics "shop" lol the 3 stars is due to lack of organization. I paid my $100 copay when I was fitted, and then when I went back to pick up the ready orthotics a month later, they wanted me to pay again. I couldn't find my receipt but I knew I had paid and they couldn't produce any record of it. Finally, I found the charge on my CC so they dropped the issue. I know this could've been a one off instance, but considering it was my first impression, wasn't a good one. read more

I went to Lerman and Son today, because I needed an immobilizer, due to a horrible fall and had a broken knee and several broken ribs. I met with Jack, the owner and my experience there was wonderful. They did not keep me waiting very long, even though I did not have an appointment. Jack spent a lot of time with me, explaining about my knee issue and all my immobilizer questions. I would recommend Lerman and Sons to anyone who needs orthotics and prosthetics. I've been having foot pain for the past year, to the point of having a noticeable limp. I tried alot of different store bought shoe inserts, but none of them worked well. I went to Lerman and Son with a doctor presciption a month ago, and they fit me with foot orthotics. Now after a month the foot pain has miraculously gone away. It was once, very recently, really painful to walk, and now a month later, I feel like I can live my life the way I want to. I was just fitted for a hip gaiter here and I couldn't have been treated any better. It was just before the holiday weekend and they were busy, but they were able to see me right away. Thank goodness, because I've been in a considerable amount of pain. Deepak greeted me with my size options and expertly fitted me within 15 minutes. He did, however, give me time to decide for myself, what felt best. I never felt rushed, but I appreciate that Deepak was able to assess my needs so quickly. The gaiter greatly reduced the amount of pain I've been feeling. The staff at the desk and in the office were incredibly gracious and they went the extra step to make sure I would receive the maximum amount of insurance coverage on my new hip gaiter. I am thoroughly satisfied with my experience and highly recommend you pay them a visit if you are in need of any medical brace, gaiter, or gear. read more

Very surprised to see the (or any) negative reviews for this business. After a recent surprise/emergency surgery I had to get an orthopedic insert for one of my shoes. The younger Mr. Lerman fitted it for me while I was staying at Cedars. Absolutely nothing wrong with it, but I hated the thing. It came along with the expectation that I'd wear tennis shoes. I am not Larry David. I don't wear tennis shoes. Considering I am mostly in dresses or skirts, I'd look like a Mormon Fundamentalist walking around in that stuff. Since I was supposed to wear it at home as much as possible, I spoke to the senior Mr. Lerman about another option that I would actually wear instead of lying about it to my surgeon and Physical Therapist. Mr. Lerman made this happen in a matter of minutes on the same day of my first call to them. He called my surgeon himself, got it authorized, and didn't make me drive back and forth in pursuit of foot thingys. So, he fitted me for something much better. Normal people would likely prefer the option given to me during my stay in the hospital, but I prefer my moon boot. It makes me feel important and scientific, like outer space is mine to conquer, and less like Forrest Gump when he finally decided to run. Most importantly, I am wearing the thing, like I'm supposed to, until the healing process is over. This company was great and it's easily been the most positive experience I've had in this surgery/paperwork/referrals/more paperwork/waiting/here's some more paperwork process. We were recommended to go here for getting a cast with a leg brace for my two year old son by the orthopedician from the Beverly Hills Orthopedic Group - Dr. Alter. In our presense, Dr. Alter called Lerman and explained to him what needs to be done. On coming here, we were asked to deposit a credit card as collateral for the procedure and that they will bill the insurance henceforth; by looking up the right codes and discussing the case with the insurance company as it varies a lot. Till date they have not kept up to their word. After the cast was completed, the scumbag who runs the place, Mr. Lerman told us that we have a high deductible and that our insurance may not cover this kind of brace. With an assuring voice using all the "promise" word - he will try best to submit it to the insurance and also that since we looked like honest people, he will give us an instant discount of 50% and reduce the bill. Not being able to withstand the suffering of a two year old, we went ahead and paid the money - more than four hundred dollars. After our checking with insurance it turns out we DO NOT have a deductible esp for a a minor and any such procedure is 100% covered. On calling and requesting these con artists to submit to the insurance, they said that it has been sent and that sometimes there will be delay of up to three months and that we must wait patiently. These suckers know that past three months, we cannot probably dispute it with the credit card company either. Now they are telling me that they have not submitted it to the insurance as they do not have a prescription on file. They have made their best efforts to contact Dr. Alter and get the prescrition faxed and that they have not done so for three months. The cast itself was poorly made with strips of torn cotton over which the glass-fiber epoxy was wrapped. We requested to use the water proof lining instead of the cotton lining. To which Mr. Lerman said - the water proof lining is known to cause severe complications on the skin and is not supposed to be used. Who ever recommends its use or suggest is an extortionist. In fact, this is a standard material at Beverly Hills Orthopedic Group, of course there is a small premium for it. Not only they cheated us on the payment, but also on the poor choice of the material. While putting the cast and the brace, Mr. Lerman had to prove himself to be Mother Teressa, so he kept telling us stories of his helpful nature and servitude to humanity. All they while I was patient to attend to my son, who was in terrible torture. He told us if the baby complains that he cast around his ankle hurts or if he complains about the brace being incorrect, we should take him back and he will redo the brace for FREE. Really, expecting a two year old to complain that his ankle hurts or the brace is incorrectly installed is a little too stretched. My two year old ain't that smart to figure out that the ankle inside such a rigid and heavy cast hurts him - sorry Mr. Lerman. The two year old is only saying two syllabels at the moment, and hurt has three syllabels. When we got back and checked with the insurance - we were told the treatment was fully covered. So we called on these suckers - who said that the insurance has been billed and they will reimbursse us soon after receiving payment. Till date they have not billed the insurance and robbed us. Really this place is a plague on humanity! ------------ In response to your comment below...After fighting for it over for six month at least. Why did it take you six months to refund us? We looked like "honest people" you said so yourself and hence gave us 50% discount, right? Another lie you just said. Dr.Alter was only filling in for Dr Isackson for 5 minutes and was not my son's doctor. He never put in a prescription in writing and it was Dr. Isackson. You never bothered to call them for the written prescription, even after four months of we asking you said you never received it, but you called to check my son's health? Lies after lies, you are quite talented at it. You refunded us after six months, two months after we disputed it with the credit card, after two months of repeated asking that too after you receiving payment from my insurance too. How come you said the water proof material that Beverly Hills Orthopedic group uses by default standard, is not good and irritates the skin? Because of your lousy cotton with epoxy plaster we could not give our son a bath, and after its removal it took almost four months for his skin to become normal. Those four months were horrendous as my two year old kept scratching the skin. Whatever you say in defense is all farce and I hope you don't do something like this to anybody else. read more

My son has been coming here for 18 years. They have always done a great job on he's braces. They are friendly, professional, efficient, and very respectful. The office staff is very nice. They also see kids at children's hospital Los Angeles. They work really hard. They are usually there from 6am to 5pm. The only bad thing about there business is the parking. There isn't any parking infront of the building till after 10am. Depending on the day you can't park around the neighborhood either. read more

With a husband who suffers from a lot of back ache and 2 active sons who enjoy all sorts of extreme sports, unfortunately, our family's needed the services of Lerman and Son more times than I'd like to admit. Fortunately, we know we're always in the most capable and qualified hands when we've used their services. We have a large collection of orthopedic items in multiple sizes that we've accumulated from Lerman and Son over the years - they range from back braces to wrist guards and to items I cannot name that were used on bad knees, wrists with tendonitis, broken wrists and a foot that was penetrated by a surfboard. When my son broke his back while snowboarding, Larry Lerman came to the rescue instantly and helped refer us to the most qualified doctor. The doctor was amazing but it was Larry Lerman who made the biggest difference of all with the custom brace he created which enabled my son to walk and function until his back healed. Larry even provided us with an additional waterproof brace to be used in the shower. I HIGHLY recommend Lerman and son take this opportunity to thank each family member and employee in that office for coming to our rescue and for helping our injured family members to heal in the most comfortable way possible. I have been a patient at Lerman & Sons since my amputation since February 2015. They were the first prosthesis company that came to see me in the hospital. By bringing in another patient, they showed me and my family that life would be normal for me again. Despite going through a traumatic amputation, i was shown that life would be normal again. After leaving the hospital, I found a prothesis company that was closer to my house. After spending a few months there I learned this was not the place for me. I returned to Lerman & Sons and the treatment and care I have received from the front office staff, the prosthesis team (Steve, Steve and Dave), and management has helped make this transition so much better and easy. They do not base their care on a clock and give each and every patient the time and energy to fully make recovery as easy as possible. I have witnessed them go above and beyond what I would expect from any care provider. While putting my care first, they deal with the inadequacies of the health insurance companies and their lack of care for their patients, but never underserve my needs as a patient. I would recommend this company to anyone who is in need. They don't treat you like a patient, they treat you like family. read more

*updated* I must admit that after a very honest review, I received a phone call. The staff apologized and mentioned it was numerous situations that lead to miscommunication within their office. They made accommodations to see my daughter earlier than the 6.2 week scheduled. I find myself to be a very understanding individual and understand human error and applaud them for listening to their patient concerns and fixing, intending to fix the problem. The brace did take longer than stated but completely understandable regarding the holiday period. A phone call can make such a big difference, it goes to show that communication is key! I debated a lot wether to continue with them prior to picking up the brace, and it would be unfair not to state they impressed me. It shows character and commitment to improve concerns and mostly showing genuine care. Thank you! Where to begin. My daughter was diagnosed with scoliosis and recommended from Children's Hospital to 1 of 2 orthopedics in the city to be measured for her brace. First, they are the worst in returning phone calls, messages and follow ups. The secretary has misplaced my messages, and forgotten to call me back 3 times! Not an error, 3. You would think human error doesn't happen that often in a professional environment. After being told twice they would return my phone call I'm still waiting on the third follow up phone call that was suppose to happen "no later than yesterday". I wouldn't complain but since my daughter is in a very critical stage where the scoliosis has worsen by 5^ it's a case where if she doesn't have her brace on the chances of her having back surgery are at 90%. I strongly feel that when told it will take 3-4 weeks, I expect it during that time frame or be notified of delays. They have not called to explain, it's me calling and asking questions. As a mother, the best interest is always in the needs of our children and I continue to be her only advocate. By far a horrible decision to select this place. Extremely disappointed. Fantastic over the top service for my 95 year old mother who needed a better neck brace!! The Becker neck brace is their design and it is wonderful. So much better than the one from the hospital. The drive is worth it from any direction. This is an updated review for Lerman & Sons. Since my previous review I felt it necessary to let this community know how perfectly they remedied the issue that we originally reported. I think there was a miscommunication as suggested by the office manager Denise. I totally accept her explanation and also respect how they followed up. I was contacted by Ed after the original review was posted a couple of times as well as Denise. We scheduled an appointment for me to bring the orthotics in with my Orthopedic's recommendation for the orthotic update. Jack, the technician took the recommendation and rebuilt the orthotics. I believe that Ed, Denise and Jack all had my best interest at heart. I would not hesitate to rely on Lerman & Sons for orthotics or any other service they provide. When I developed ankle tendon inflammation and plantar fasciitis my doctor gave me a script for new orthotics as well as a brace and stretches. My orthotics were 15 years old and due for replacement. I admit I called another place before Lerman and they wouldn't see me for a month! I tried to accommodate them with off times but no... I called Lerman and I am sooo glad. They saw me the next day in MY office! (I work in a hospital for which they provide service). A terrific, efficient and smart guy did my foot impressions. He had me fax in the paperwork. I had excellent orthotics in a week! This is a quality product that fits me. (I threw out two sets I had gotten a couple of years ago from "sports people"). We took our son to get measured for a possible helmet fitting. We assumed they would try to convince us to get the helmet no matter what in order to make some money. However, they were very candid with us in telling us that our son didn't necessarily need a helmet and that it might be a good idea to see if insurance covered it before making the final decision. Total scam --watch out. We were advised by our orthopedic doctor at Children's Hospital to use Lerman and Son to get a Rhino brace for our newborn baby. What no one disclosed to us was that the brace would end up costing us $316 (despite the fact that we have insurance). The brace is one piece if plastic and a few velcro tapes. I called Lerman and Son to investigate and the receptionist immediately passed me over to Lerman. As I asked him why the price was so high he told me that he was an expert and I was not. Very nice. So I did my research. I contacted the maker of the Rhino brace at http://www.rhinopod.com/kicker.htm The woman there told me that they were selling the Rhino brace retail for $49.50!!!!!! So Lerman and Son is clearly overcharging for the cost. They had a technician adjust the brace for 20 mn. + the cost of the brace. That's all they did. IMO, Lerman and Son is running a perfect scam. Overcharging people with sick babies. Legally. I feel this is disgusting.
