We were upset, but one of the first things I did was talk to my cousin, a pediatric orthopedic surgeon who did his fellowship year at Children's Hospital Los Angeles. He asked me who our doctor was, and when I told him Dr. Kay, he said that's exactly who he would have recommended. We first met Dr. Kay before Wade was born, and he prepared us for the journey to come, laying out the treatment plan and patiently answering all of our questions. I liked him immediately, and my admiration for him has only grown over the past four years. He's an incredible doctor, kind, patient, and gentle, with a calming manner. He was born to do what he does, to take care of children and reassure their parents. Wade came out with the prophesied funny foot, and treatment began when he was six days old, in September 2022. It started with a series of casts, a new one each week as he grew, to correct the alignment of the foot. Then, at five weeks, Dr. Kay performed a small surgery, called a tenotomy, basically snipping the Achilles tendon to allow it to grow longer and more flexible as it healed. He explained that no one understood why this happened, but that it always worked for babies. The surgery was successful, and it was followed by one last cast, after which the clubfoot was corrected, at eight weeks. Then came almost three years of bracing, to ensure the foot didn't revert. Wade wore his boots and bar--like a little snowboard--23 hours a day for six months. After that, he only had to wear the brace at night, and it became a natural part of his bedtime routine. He wore that thing every night until his third birthday. The bulk of Dr. Kay's work was done after the surgery, but we saw him several more times for follow-ups at the spine center. We're not quite done--we have to schedule a six-month check-up next month--but the boots are off now, and Wade's feet are perfect. We'd been prepared for different shoe sizes, but even Dr. Kay has a hard time telling the feet apart. I know the outcome was not entirely in Dr. Kay's control, but he did wonderful work with Wade's clubfoot and was lovely to deal with all throughout this long process. Everyone else at the spine center was great, too, always helpful and friendly. Dr. Kay also works at CHLA, and I'm glad that he was our doctor at Cedars, and that so many of L.A.'s children have access to his care. This is my 5,000th Yelp review, and today happens to be my 40th birthday. I wanted to write about something meaningful for this one, and I can't think of a better choice than the Cedars-Sinai Spine Center and Dr. Kay, who gave my son his walking feet.

Second chance at life…read more I've never experienced so much gratitude, love, and appreciation in my life. I lived with two years of debilitating nerve impingement at L4-L5. I was already at the lowest point of my life emotionally, and fitness was all I had to process my pain. As the nerve damage worsened, I tried **three epidurals** -- only one helped. I lost my insurance and couldn't afford surgery. For six months, I woke up every day with intense nerve pain, cramping, and ankle lock-up. I would fall to the floor in tears just trying to get out of bed. It stripped away my confidence and made me question everything. I was terrified of spine surgery. My sister has polio and is paralyzed in both legs -- so I feared what could go wrong. But when I finally got insurance back, I chose Dr. Saadat at [Cedars-Sinai](https://www.cedars-sinai.org) and [Orange County Orthopedic Institute](https://orangecountyorthopedic.com). He had just had a baby, but **he made time for me**. He listened. He understood. His team treated me with compassion and professionalism from the start. I sent a video to show him the pain I was living with -- and he didn't ignore it. He called me. He met me. He **scheduled me fast**. I was scared, but I was also **shown grace**. The surgery went beautifully. **My nerve pain is gone.** I still have some healing to do -- back soreness and incision pain -- but it's improving **little by little every day**. This experience taught me how much pain the elderly and disabled live with. It gave me a new understanding of what it means to suffer -- and to heal. And it reminded me that life is a gift. I have a great respect for doctors. I now have a tremendous understanding of what it takes to be one of the best doctors in the world. When I look at the way Dr. Saadat takes care of his patients and his business, it makes me ask myself: *"What have I done with my life?" I could do so much more. Much love and always respect. #thepoet. With gratitude, Kabir Singh https://www.kabirsvoice.com

I saw many surgeons for my cervical spine issues. The who's who of spine surgery in LA. All of them…read morewere impressive and at the top of their field. But even among this elite group, Dr. Ehsan Saadat stood out as the one doctor who I would entrust with my spine, and by extension my life and the future of my children, above everyone else. As a scientist myself, I know a remarkable and detail-oriented mind when I see one, and Dr. Saadat is as good at it gets. My case was not straightforward: I saw 6 different and distinguished spine surgeons and got almost as many different opinions on what to do. Dr. Saadat spent a lot of time thinking through my case, he referenced the latest scientific evidence, and he consulted his trusted colleagues on my behalf to double check his own judgement. He also spent a lot of time emailing back and forth with me to discuss the pros and cons of various approaches rigorously, patiently, and honestly. On a human level, It became clear pretty early that Dr Saadat is caring and generous with his time and attention. I can imagine that when you do something as demanding as spine surgery for a living, day in and day out, then no matter your level of empathy it becomes easy to forget that what is routine to you can be one of the most scary and nerve-wracking experiences for each of your patients. Not Dr. Saadat; he treated my case with the same level of thoughtfulness, attention to detail, and meticulous planning that one would usually reserve for their own family. I felt that my spine is in good hands all throughout the process. Dr. Saadat is also a man of great integrity. The surgery we ended up going with is far from the most expensive for my condition, but it was the best tradeoff between risk and reward. He talked me out of a more expensive surgery --- which is something he also specializes in ---- because he believed something simpler is a better risk/reward tradeoff for me, despite it being a close call. He based this on evidence, data, sound judgement, and consultation with trusted colleagues. That's the kind of honesty, care, and impartiality you want in your corner. Leading up to surgery, Dr. Saadat made the time to sit down with me and explain in detail what he was planning to do. He had a well-thought out answer to every question I asked, and I asked many as I had spent the past two months reading and watching everything I can find related to my spine condition. It became clear that he left no stone unturned in preparing his team for my surgery, and making sure I'm comfortable with everything he planned to do in there. He explained how he will use every modality of Neuro monitoring available, how he would decide which size and angle of implant he would use based on what he finds when he goes in there, and many other details. Best of all, he assembled a team in place that would be able to handle every contingency, and he told me about them. Notably, he explained how he will be joined by an exceptional neurosurgeon colleague in the operating room; this turned out to be a prescient judgement call, as they discovered dangerous adhesions to the covering of my spinal cord once they opened me up, a grave challenge that Dr. Saadat's all-star team overcame with precision. Without Dr. Saadat's meticulous preparation, his refusal to leave anything to chance, and his dedication to leaving no stone unturned for the benefit of his patients, I might have been left permanently disabled or worse. I am thankful I chose someone who was able to keep me safe, give me my life back, and safeguard for my children their father. On surgery day, I experienced no hardships. The last thing I remember before surgery was joking around with the anaesthesia team as they injected something in my IV, and the next moment I was talking to Dr. Saadat as he was checking my strength after surgery while I told him how I was feeling remarkably little pain. I was released 24 hours later after staying overnight for observation, and left the hospital virtually pain free feeling as if nothing happened, having to consciously remind myself to take it easy. Once all was said and done, my surgical outcome has been great, and I'm continuing to recover nicely with all my pain and symptoms seemingly a thing of the past. Dr. Saadat has been with me every step of the way, generous with his time and his attention as always. I couldn't be more satisfied. Thank you Dr. Saadat for the care and attention you showed me, for leaving no stone unturned to keep me safe, and for your sage and generous guidance throughout this difficult time.

I remember the first few years of his treatment were very difficult and frustrating for my son, until we started seeing Dr. Robert Cho. At the time, Dr. Cho was working at the Shriner's Children Hospital in Pasadena and he came highly recommended by many of the doctors that I had spoken with. Right from the beginning, my son and I really liked seeing Dr. Cho because he genuinely cared about my son and provided us with great advice. Dr. Cho always spent as much time as was needed to look at my son's scans and to explain any good or bad changes that were seen. We never felt like he was rushed or too busy to provide anything we needed. Dr. Cho did an excellent job of communicating all possible treatment protocols, including the very real possibility that my son would one day need surgical intervention. Although we all hoped that my son's curvature would not get worse, Dr. Cho was very honest from the very beginning of my son's relationship with him. Around June of 2025, I received a message from the Shriner's Hospital that Dr. Cho was now in private practice, so I reached out to his new office to schedule the next appointment. Even if Dr. Cho would have moved to a different area of the country, we would have traveled to see him, but lucky for us, Dr. Cho kept his practice here in the Los Angeles area. When we saw Dr. Cho in July of 2025, my son's curvature had gotten to the point that Dr. Cho recommended Anterior Vertebral Body Tethering to help fix the scoliosis. I remember this appointment very well, because even though I had a feeling the curvature had gotten much worse, we always hoped that things would be ok and we would not have to worry about a surgery for another six months. Dr. Cho did an amazing job at not only explaining the surgery to me, but more importantly, making sure my son felt the confidence that this was the right course of action. Not only is Dr. Cho a world class surgeon, but he is one of the most approachable and nice persons you could ever meet. Some surgeons are good in the OR but have a horrible bedside manner, others have a good bedside manner but are just ok surgeons. Dr. Cho is both and that is special. In the weeks leading up to the surgery, Dr. Cho kept my son and I in the loop about every aspect of the surgery. He was always available to us if we had any questions. On the date of the surgery, my son was very nervous until Dr. Cho arrived in the pre-op room. Dr. Cho did an amazing job of putting my 13 year old son at ease, and then did an amazing job during the 6 hour plus VBT surgery. After the surgery, my son had eight brand new titanium screws in his spine along with a tether, but he was up walking before 8 pm. My son was released from the hospital the very next. After just a few days of laying low, my son was walking around the neighborhood and doing his Lego sets. Before, during and after the surgery, Dr. Cho was always there for my son and our family. My son will always have scoliosis, but with Dr. Cho's expert skill, knowledge, and expertise, my son is already back to playing the sports he loves and SCUBA diving. I could not recommend Dr. Cho enough if your child is diagnosed with scoliosis. I wish we would have met Dr. Cho from the very beginning, but I am so grateful that he was available to treat my son and guide our family through what sometimes seems like an impossible maze of scoliosis decisions.
