Tucked in a strip mall off Ranchero rd., this place has the BEST empanadas!!!! Four choices, but the beef is our favorite. We get enough to fill our bellies and we never share! We somewhat recently moved in down the street so this is now our local donut shop. It's a small lower volume place on the edge of town so set your expectations accordingly. It's run wholly by an Argentenian couple as far as I can tell. The lady's accent can be strong sometimes but both are very nice and it's never stopped me from grabbing a bite there. The donuts are average to above average quality. Most of the "standard" donut styles are run fresh daily as far as I can tell, but it seems some of the fancier ones might be done every other day due to the constraints of being a hole in the wall with mid to low volume mostly local business. Either way you can tell that they make an effort. Nothing 5-10 seconds in the microwave can't fix, I normally like to warm up my donuts anyways. The more important part is they taste good. Looks and smells clean inside which is a big deal for us. They also serve very good tamales for a reasonable price. A fair amount of meat and balanced seasoning. The breakfast (and other varieties of) empanadas are supposed to be very good too. My fiance says the breakfast empanadas are often sold out when she goes in. Prices on the donuts are slightly above average due to the small size of the shop, but not crazy. Prices on other items seem very fair to me. Will continue to visit this business until I have reason not to. Very happy. read more

Today just wasn't Lao's/Leo's day. We got there and it look as if they were stocked on tamales and nope. Ask for a beef empanada and we were told they're cooking and about to be out. 30 mins later we finally got it. It's hot inside and a customer came in asking for coffee and they didn't have any fresh and the cup he received was cold and had to be microwaved. They were out of fries so we couldn't order the salchicha fries. While we waited for the one empanada, 3 other customers ordered tamales and of course there weren't any. If this place is under new management, then something needs to be looked over. They have their YELP of the 2017 year proudly sitting up. But today showed completely opposite. There were 3 people working when we got there and it was down to one in the end. Just feel sad for them. Great place to have the best to homemade tamales and empanadas when available. Came in on the yelp reviews. The donuts were very greasy, the coffee tasted like it's been sitting on the warmer all day and they added water to it. Your doughnuts, empanadas and tamales are very good. The only negative I have about your business is your $5 min to use a card. A LOT of people don't cary cash. So you're forcing those people to spend more than they want to. What's the difference between you and other food places that don't have that minimum policy. Really! I made a special trip to Leo's after a coworker bought the tamales and empanadas and brought them to work. I live in Yucaipa, and one Saturday morning I drove up to Leo's just so I could enjoy more. I have to say they are fresh, and oh so good! I am very impressed with the dough used for the empanadas, very flavorful. Patiently waited to order then pay. when I was about to hand him money he heard the to go order come up and he moved me aside and then proceeded to argue with the guy sitting down in the corner..... waiting for his phoned in to go order. he said he did not provide him with enough time to prepare his order. Still waiting patiently. 3-4 minute have gone by now. Phone order guy leaves. Now I get to deal with him. I had him my money. He looks at me and asks what my problem is. Shocked.... I asked WHAT? It's not very often (only a few times a year) that we get donuts and it's a special treat for our little girls. Being new to the area we decided to explore and discovered Lao's. It's a special treat indeed! We walked in and were greeted with a very genuine smile and welcome. It was late in the morning and they were beginning to pull the donuts out of the case to make room for (I assume) more lunch-y fare. The gentleman behind the counter offered our girls a donut hole each which guarantees that he will forever be their favorite 'Donut Man'. They picked out chocolate donuts with sprinkles and other than garbled Mmffmfmffmmfs and crumbly smiles I could not give you an accurate description of the taste or quality. I'd venture a guess that they were very good given the reaction and quickness at which the chocolate-y sprinkle-y treats were consumed. My hubby ordered a ham, cheese and jalapeno croissant and I had an apple fritter. The croissant was good and the fritter was incredible. The fritter had that perfect crunch and apple bits without being too 'heavy'. Next time, we will try the empanadas and the jalapeno and cheese tamales. Went in on a whim. Their donuts were beautiful in the window. Girl working was not the friendliest but not rude either. My dad got a dozen donuts because there was a sign that with every dozen you get 2 free donuts. Apparently, you get 2 donut holes OR one large donut - Not what was advertised at all. I also ordered a vanilla iced coffee - it had to be the most disgusting iced coffee I've ever had. Something was off about it and made me sick to my stomach. I took two sips and had to throw it away.
