I had some work done by them involving my transmission and transfer case and they reinstalled my transfer case housing internally all backwards. I found this out after a 2000 mile drive back to Nashville at my local Mechanic and it was too much damage to be saved, I had to buy a whole new transfer case. read more

I had my transmission replaced here about a year and a half ago and had an excellent experience. Today, I returned, because I felt a slight shimmy during gear change. The dealer couldn't/wouldn't figure it out. Ron in the front office assured me they would check it out under my warranty. Turns out it was computer update issues that were resolved in a day and now my car is smooth as silk. This shop is an hour away from home for me, but I won't trust anyplace else. read more

Thomas F. July 2025 Stopped by the La Mirada location several weeks ago on a Monday to schedule an appointment and explain the transmission issues I was experiencing. I Explained that I was having trouble with my transmission and that I wanted to have it looked at. I explained that I could smell burning transmission fluid that I knew there was a leak in the line and there is and that it is shifting hard and making funny noises. I explained to them that I'm an Uber driver and don't have the luxury of leaving my car at the dealer for 2 - 1/2 weeks before they could look to it. Leon's transmission came highly referred by my primary mechanic. When I talked to them on Monday they let me know that they would probably need 2 to 3 hours to look at it and determine what was going on and then get me back out on the road.. when I arrived on Tuesday morning as scheduled I dropped off the vehicle and didn't hear back from them. I called 6 hours later and was told to pick up my car. When arrived I was told they drove it and everything was fine, the transmission didn't need any fluid. They told me If it continues to leak and it continued to smell burning fluid to bring it back. I'm extremely disappointed with Leon's as I made it very clear what the problems were. Given their diagnosis and considering the length of time they kept my vehicle. I doubt very much that they even put it up on a rack to look at it. I'm not a mechanic but I clearly saw a line leaking and fluid dripping down the hard line. It doesn't take much to know the smell of burning fluid. I was hoping to avoid taking my vehicle to the dealer and now it appears I may have no other choice. I will not trust my car to Leon's when they could not find an obvious leak after 6 hours. A good transmission shop should have found the leak just by putting my car up on a rack. A good transmission shop should have been able to hear how my transmission runs by driving it around. It feels to me like they did nothing but sit on my car for 6 hours and wasted my time. I would never refer anyone to this transmission shop. read more

This is my third classic car to have it's automatic transmission rebuilt by Leon's. My first was a 60's era Ford granny gear 4 speed truck gearbox. Next an AMC Pacer. Finally my daughter's '67 Cougar. A trusted veteran mechanic told me about Leon's. Let me tell you from experience--this place is a rare gem in the automotive repair business. Ron is my go-to guy. My transmission is still having problems, far below the 2,000 miles, that covers the warranty. Now, I need to find a transmission repair shop to figure out what is going on, and why is wasn't repaired correctly. They charged me so much money....money that I will now have to spend yet again. HONESTY and INTEGRITY. I went to Leon's after being refused by like 3 different transmission places for various reasons (too much mileage, wrong make, etc). The supposed issue was a leak in my transmission. I spoke with Ron for the most part, he was very nice and honest. They cleaned all the gunk off my transmission and gave it a look over. And now here's the best part... Ron called me and said there was nothing wrong... and there's no charge! Now, I'm not trying to trash talk transmission shops, but any other place would have charged me a few hundred and sent me on my way! Firestone Auto (La Habra) does not offer tranmission services on vehicles over 100K miles, so they recommended I contact Leon's. The gentleman who answered was very professional and asked questions (seemed very knowledgeable) to make a determination about what would be necessary for my car and if I needed an Appointment. DO NOT GO TO THESE GUYS!!! I took my car to the La Mirada location and they charged me $650 for nothing!They said that they opened up my transmission and the 650 was for labor. They were going to charge me an additional $5000 to repair it... ended up taking it somewhere elsand was only charged $2000 in total at the other shop! And the different shop actually showed me my transmission and that nothing was opened up! THEY ARE CROOKS!!! Thanks for nothing Ron. Update: After posting this review, Mark the corporate marketing director from Leon's corporate contacted me. Long story short, he told me he would go to the cameras they had in the long and shop to see if the work was done. Over a span of months I have left countless calls and messages and have not heard anything at all. This just confirms even more that this whole chain of "mechanics" is corrupt!!! Honest Business. Took my 2011 Ford Ranger in for a transmission check. Pickup ran well but I kept hearing a rattling noise underneath in the morning when I start it up. I thought it was something to do with the transmission so I brought it in. I left it here and they said they would check it out. A couple of hours later they called and said the couldn't find anything wrong. They test drove it and everything. They said I could pick it up , no charge, and if I ever have any problems to bring it back. Dishonest businesses will try to sell you something. Like going to get an oil change at J. Lube. read more

I originally took my Ranger here about 6 months back because I had some transmission issues. My dad swore by Leon's and said he wouldn't go anywhere else for transmission problems. They were really quick about fixing it and getting it back to me. The reason I am leaving a 5 star review is my transmission ended up having a small problem about a week ago and took it back to them. It was still under their warranty but the mechanic working on the car said that even if it had been slightly over the warranty they would have gladly taken in back and fixed it for free (which they did). Finding a company that stands behind their product like that is rare! Will always take my truck here as long as I'm in the area! read more

I don't understand how they have good reviews when even my first encounter with them was terrible. The guy there was really rude, he was talking to someone when I walked in and I thought they were both customers so I asked a technician who should I speak to about a quote, the tech said to go inside there should be someone there so I did. I asked the two men there if they worked there and one answered he did and he would be with me in a minute, so I waited. The other guy after a few minutes tells the employee to help me out and they could talk later (apparently it was a personal visit) they employee proceeds to say "no they can wait if they need help" the friend then says, "you should help them, we can talk after you're done" the employee then looks at me and says, "NO! If they need help they can wait!" I didn't even do anything I was waiting for them to help me so the disrespectful and condescending behavior wasn't necessary. I wasn't there to ask for free labor, I was there willing to wait. In turn I get treated that way? That's not customer service. read more

This place is a complete rip off, paid 4,000 for a new transmission and 14 months later it leaves me on the freeway won't accelerate and won't change gears, made it to the emergency lane, had it towed to the Acura dealership so I could find out exactly what was wrong, thinking that it couldn't be the transmission because it was still new, and just to find out that Leon's never replaced my transmission at all, not even a rebuilt transmission but the same transmission that came with my car, the dealership checked the serial number on the transmission and told me it was the original that came with my car, they also told me that they most likely opened it up and did some work but it was never replaced. I was referred to this place and sadly they didn't help at all and turned me away. My car needed the u drive to be replaced and now the whole drive shaft. So no clue why they said they didn't see a problem. I was recommended to take my car here to fix the u drive on my car. The drive to take it to this location took me 45 minutes for them to say there was no problem. They turned me away, because if they drove the vehicle you'd feel the shake and didn't lift it the vehicle to see that the u drive which now became a bigger issue because the whole drive shaft has to be replaced. I believe they checked my car, noticed the problem and didn't want to deal with it. It took me 3 hrs of my day to drive there and back not including leaving it there for 4 hrs for them to turn me away. As a woman that doesn't have the knowledge and just wants my car fixed I'm leaving this review and obviously I'll never recommend this place. I took my 2002 Chrysler Concorde here in the fall of 2006(actually was towed in.) Diagnosis burnt up torque converter. Had a rebuilt transmission installed for around $2800. Here in 2014, I am still driving this car and the rebuilt transmission is still going strong at 195,000 miles, the car had 49,000 when the work was done. Yes this place is expensive but I have received way more than I ever expected. 5 Stars! read more

If you are looking for a transmission flush service, this is not the place for you. Their "transmission service" is a transmission fluid change NOT a transmission flush. I called their office and left a voicemail requesting a quote on a transmission flush, I clearly said transmission flush on the voicemail. They called me back and gave me a quote and during our conversation I was, again, very explicit when stating that I wanted a transmission flush done on my car. And finally, when I showed up for my appointment, I again told the technician that I wanted a transmission flush. The technician said it would be done in about two hours. I get home and check my ATF and notice that its dirtier than it should be after getting a flush. So I give them a call and they say their "transmission service" is mainly a transmission change where they open up the pan gasket, change the filter and replace the ATF fluid that came out during the change. I was not happy to hear that the specific service I requested on my vehicle was not done. There where multiple times where they could have clarified that their "transmission service" is not a flush and that it is instead more like a transmission fluid change. So again if you are looking for a transmission flush, don't come here because what you will get is a transmission fluid change in the guise of a "transmission service" read more

Was recommended to Leon's by Mike at Glenn's Automotove. They picked up my car from Glenn's shop and towed it over to Leons. The next day he calls me and tells me what I suspected the problem was, I needed a new extension housing. They quoted me a good price(didn't charge for the tow), they got the job done in a short amount of time and offer warranty on their work. It's been about a month now and haven't had any issues so they did a good job. But the best part of the experience was how up to date they keep you with what's going on. I received numerous calls in the 2-3 days my car was there with various updates and eta's of when my car would be ready. It's always hard leaving your car in someone else's hand, so getting frequent updates is amazing, most shops won't call you till the job is done. I'd recommend Leon's to anyone, I had a great experience. read more

My Transmission is a 833 mopar unit which was worn out and needed a full rebuild. Took it to Leon's and I was asked to leave the car and they would do inspection and give me a quote. I had an issue with my 2006 Honda Pilot. The transmission mount was missing a bolt that connected it to the sub frame. When they first diagnosed it (Rick), he said that they would have to drop the frame and order a kit to fix it. His estimate was approximately $300.00. Yikes!! I dropped it off and when they fixed it, he called me to inform me that they actually did not have to drop the frame and they didn't have to order the part ($50.00 cost) because they had an extra one lying around! My VSA and Brake notification light was also going on and off and after running the codes they discovered that I needed break fluid, so they topped it off for me. Rick then told me that he would not charge me a thing!!! I couldn't believe it. There are good people in this world, and this place definitly has one of them. Besides not charning me for work done, they were professional, got back to me in a timely manner when telling me about my car and they were honest about the expected costs and when they would be able to fix my car. I took my car to Leon's to have the transmission fixed. They had it for over 2 weeks, and when I got it back it still was not fixed right (I am not the only one this has happened to, I know two others). I took it back and again they had it for over 2 weeks. Every time I called to get information, they stalled and I was lied to. When it finally was ready they tried to hold my car hostage. They initialy said I could make payments, then changed their mind without telling me. Every time I called to try to work something out and give them money, my calles were ignored and unreturned. If things get much worse I will have to get my lawyer involved. I am awaiting a transplant and need my car. I would not recomend Leon's to anyone unless you like crapy work and unprofessionalism. read more

While the service at Leons seems professional they kept stalling, politely, while taking 3 weeks to repair the automatic transmission in a decade old BMW. It must take a rocket scientist to change that thing; after the 3 weeks with my 15 year old car, it still did not work and they couldn't diagnose the problem; after they searched the entire "Automatic Transmission Rebuilders Association" and found nothing; the solution was found by me after talking to a BMW owner that helped me diagnose and fix it without their help. Simply horrible. Paid these chumps $2700 to rebuild transmission. 20 miles later it failed, but under warranty. After 2nd repair attempt and 7 days in their "care", car was returned a filthy mess. Grease everywhere - seats, floor mats, carpet - front and rear. Grease covering threshold. Worst of all it had 180 additional miles on it, front end out of alignment, and dog hair covering the back seat and carpet. Tire jack was laying around in the cargo area. I'm the original owner of the car and it has been impeccibly maintained. These guys suck. read more
