Not very flavorful and The crust was not the same as the what we remember - The Italian Beef Rolls were not very good. Again, Not much flavor to them and they were burnt. High Expectations - No Satisfaction I've been to Leona's in Chicago many times so was excited to have one in Mchenry. one of those you know what to expect, experience, quality, and consistency. Anything but.... We orders online, and order ready in 26 minutes not bad! Upon arriving I noticed a large number of people with arms crossed and not happy faces. I walked up to the bar area, advised of my order... they go check. "I'm we just got your order in, so it's going to be 15 minutes." No apologies, No explanation. "Oh we don't have fried calamari, I don't know why it let you order that." Then silence... no explanation, and I had to ask if that would be refunded?!? They asked for my online receipt and refunded in cash. I along with many others were asked what we ordered, our order numbers by various staff. Again, I didn't hear any apologies, any explanations, simply walking around like this is normal day to day business. Now it's new to the area, I know it's been open a few days, but a simple apology for the inconvenience makes a difference when you want customers to return. The 4th employee that asked me for my order number and name, walked back to the kitchen and shouted the numbers he received by waiting patrons, then I can see and hear an older gentlemen saying the name and order number literally same time and saying they haven't called that they arrived. Um your staff just asked the customers up front for the numbers as they are present. At this point I went back there to clearly identify my order was present. Let alone there's no outside curbside parking nor process to alert Leona's you are waiting. Finally received my pizza (no calamari) and no apologies, no explanation. At this point I'm hopeful the pizza is at least good considering it's a large chain known for consistency and quality... welp look at the pictures of the pizza, doughy, inconsistent, messy, and random full basil leave. I hope they get it together or they will close down quickly like everyone business in that location. Poor training, poor communication skills, poor leadership. One and done for me. Restaurant was clean yet I hope it would be considering they just opened, also noticed the host welcomed people by "hi here's the menu (point) grab and seat and you can come back up when your ready." I mean local dive bar, sure but wow, disappointing on many levels, staff, communication, leadership, and food. read more

I was really looking forward to Leona's opening up in town. I've always remembered Leona's Pizza from their Chicago location, great pies and great service. The pizza here is still very good, but the customer service is absolutely terrible. This isn't a one-time thing either. I've been there five different times now, thinking maybe it was just an off day or a new team getting settled in, but the same thing keeps happening. The young staff working there are consistently rude, unhelpful, and seem completely uninterested in providing any level of service. It's disappointing because the food deserves better representation. Honestly, I've received much better customer service at most fast food places, which says a lot. Unfortunately, after giving them multiple chances, I don't think I'll be coming back. read more

Terrible thin crust, tastes like premade cardboard, frozen pizza from Grocery store is better. Verry disappointing & not the prices online advertised, because I had it deliver the up charge on menu because they use a third party . The burnt ends were extremely burnt, some like beef jerky. I'm giving it 2 stars because the Detroit Style Pizza was very good. We used to love Leona's. Since this is a newer Leona's location, we disregarded the 1 star reviews and attributed it to sorting out the kinks. The dining room is simple, with a few tables and a large walk up "bar" on one side of the room. We thought that's where we order our food, but no, there is a server. There was one menu clipped in the middle of the table. A basic folded paper menu with tear off coupons attached. There were 4 of us, so we had to hunt for other menus from other tables since the only server was busy with other tables. She did eventually come to get our order. We could not use any coupon attached to the menu since we were not take out orders. It did not specify that on the coupons. (They should cut off the coupons on the indoor menu). We placed our orders and needed to pay up front before she placed them. The water station was separate in the area to serve yourself. Our beverages were served in flimsy clear disposable plastic glasses. Not great for wine. The food was bussed out by a different person & served on plastic plates. The fettuccine alfredo was tasty. The penne with meat sauce was meh and watery. However, the Detroit Style pizza was amazing and a major hit. And finally, when I did look at my printed receipt, I was charged $3.00 more for the Penne then the menu stated. So, after approaching what we think was the manager, he shrugged his shoulders and said that he can't do anything about that. It's how the system is programmed. We won't be back and will have to find a Detroit Style Pizza elsewhere. read more

Awesome Pizza! We've been to several Chicago locations & the one in McHenry is just as great. The only difference is that the Chicago locations are always crowded! McHenry, not very busy. I don't understand why? Same owners, same ingredients, same recipes, abundant toppings, same menu choices. What's up in McHenry??? As far as the complaints about being expensive, all pizzas in restaurants are expensive. Leona's is no more expensive. I'd say to those giving negitive reviews, give them another try. I was in here today. I was beyond disappointed. The food was terrible and the service was just as bad. This was my third and last visit. The first time about a month ago was pretty good. Thats why I came back. The second time last week was awful. The food was overcooked and service was mediocre. I thought maybe they were having a tough night and returned today to give them another shot. Today was third time eating here. The Italian beef was so overcooked it was chewy. The chicken was burnt and I got the wrong potatoes I had ordered wedges and got french fries. And, the service almost non existent. No one checked on us at all. My wife and I used to walk to the original Leonas on Scheffield at Belmont. Loved the pasta dinners, wings, and dessert as much as the pizza. I was shocked and thrilled to see the Leonas logo on the sign on 120 in McHenry driving by last week. My wife and I dropped in today for a quick lunch and were super pleased. The flavors didn't change, maybe even better since it's been so long. The buffalo wings were as giant and delicious as ever, and the fried mozzarella bricks still to die for. My friend and I were eager to try pizza from this Chicago legend of the 1950's through 1970's. We walked in and seated ourselves as directed by the sign. No one came to wait on us for almost 15 minutes. We ordered a pizza and were plesantly surprised how excellent it was. Just like we ordered when I was a teenager. We had to flag down the server to get boxes and again to get the check. The lack of attention given to customers is disturbing. As soon as we finished, the server said they were closing due to storm damage and the repair man was arrived. Their choice of beverages is minimal. I usualky get soda water and they have a bar but ni soda water. Bad service, lack of interest in customers, lack of acceptable drinks for diabetics, make us question long long this resturant will be in business. There were only two customers that came in the entire time we were there. The food was excellent. The ambience is more like a fast food place with gambling area by the door. read more

If I could put no stars i definitely would. I ordered a canoli, a small stuffed pizza, grilled shrimp and a fanta. I ordered online at 11:20, my delivery driver was in contact with me for the 2 hours I waited. I opened up my bag of food and I received the smallest 10 shrimps imaginable and they are definitely not grilled. And they are nuke warm. I haven't even tried the pizza yet. We were excited this restaurant finally opened. We placed two meals and an appetizer for pick up. Once home, we discovered both meals were not as advertised and missing key ingredients. Not impressed at this new place at all. The prices are very expensive, the waiters and service staff are disorganized at best. They were confused on which order was ours, and if we asked for something they never came back. We decided to venture out and decide for ourselves if this place is any good. We ordered the thin crust pizza and it was very good. Sausage, Italian beef and hot Giardiniera. Very good. Lots of sausage and beef. I will go back to try the stuffed crust. The only slightly off thing I had to say was we needed our pizza wrapped up and that was on us to do but our table was too small and that should have been handled by the staff. Decided to try a new place out. Ordered and 16 in sausage pizza. Chicken parm dinner ( $27 bucks worth, had high expectations!) When ordering online , asked what dressing for the salad with the chicken parm. So ordered Italian. Also ordered their well reknown carrot cake. Pizza was good. Not great. The chicken on the parm was a real piece of chicken which scored points with me. Never got the salad. Didn't understand that one at all after getting prompted for a dressing. And a half of a roll for garlic bread cut corner to corner. Kinda cheap in my eyes for 27 bucks for a meal. Carrot cake was like 3 slices. Big and pretty good. But for 88 bucks all in. This is an easy pass. I did enjoy the chicken parm. But for the cost, there are other options in the area, that while not as good a piece of chicken ill deal with it. To rich for my blood. And no. Im not cheap. Ill pay for better food items. But a meal for 2 with a dessert for $88? Tried them. Maybe a birthday or holiday or a sudden influx of cash will promt an order again. I've Heard a lot of great things about Leona's in Chicago and was excited when I saw that one opened up in McHenry. We visited this past Saturday evening. The place is small yet still has a good atmosphere. It does have gambling on the right side when you walk in, which is fairly common in that area. That was okay and not a distraction.We ordered at the counter when we walked in, and there was a tip requested of which I did tip. Between the three of us we ordered a salad, pizza, and meatball sandwich. Unfortunately they were out of Leona's own poppy seed dressing. We then sat down, when a server walked by we asked If we can get an extra plate and fork, she pointed across the room and told us we can get it over there. That was annoying because the place was fairly empty and again we did tip, not sure what we tipped for though? The meatball sandwich was very good, the pizza was really good at least an eight on a 10 scale, and the salad was well a salad. When we were done we were the only people left, we walked up to the counter where the worker was just sitting, We asked if we can get a takeout box, again she pointed over her shoulder and she said it could be over there. While she just sat there. Interesting to see this lack of service in a fairly new restaurant, you would think that people would be excited to welcome people in and make them feel welcome.
