I'm 80 years old and have been an auto mechanic, engineer, home repair specialist, property manager and a landlord. I have dealt with keys and locks most of my life. I own a 2008 car that has a chip in the key to prevent theft. The dealer price to make a spare is $267 for the key and $220 to program it. Not to mention that service at a dealer is time consuming. I called Leonard's and he said come on down. When I got to the shop he was busy, but I was out of there in about 20 minutes with a new key and the cost was approximately 1/3 of the dealer price. I needed to get a key copied that was from the 1970s and on an odd shaped plate. I went to three locksmiths only to be told they couldn't copy it. All three told me to just change the lock. I went into Leonard's today and had the key copied (two made) literally in less than five minutes. Best $7 I've ever spent. read more

Highly recommend for cutting any key for an older car! Had my key cut by Stanley for my '94 Toyota. Stanley is very detail oriented and did the job carefully, as I supplied the key blank (they are not liable if you didn't purchase key from them). I went in to get two copies of a basic mailbox key made. I tested them out when I got home and NEITHER of them work. Leonard's Lock & Key for the win! I certainly wouldn't trust them with the security of my home if they can't even duplicate a key correctly. As a frequent customer to Leonard's even though I don't check in all the time I'm now a disappointed customer and feel like I need to write a review. Last year price for re-keying a single cylinder lock cost approx. $12 each and recently the price is now $25 each. Can I say WOW...? More than doubling the cost? Yelpers beware as there are other options available which cost between $10-$15 each instead of the ridiculous $25. read more

I don't post reviews often on Yelp, but when I do, it's because the customer service I experienced was enough for me to be in their debt. A debt I'll gladly pay with an honest review: Leaonard's Lock & Key has been a locksmith staple in Burbank for a long time. This was my first interaction with them, but everyone I asked about my situation all recommended I go to them. Long story short, I had to get a new key for my car which was ridiculously expensive - really pissed me actually and on TOP of that expense, I was quoted $150-$185 from multiple dealerships JUST to get it reprogrammed. So stupid... again, livid. Without the desire to walk bow-legged for the rest of my life for paying an hour's labor rate for someone to figure out how to program my key, I give John a call and he quotes me $75. I was stoked. Scheduling conflicts on my end caused me to call and reschedule multiple times, but John was extremely patient and professional with me. More importantly, he knew EXACTLY how to get my key programmed. I show up and John introduces me to his car key programming extraordinaire, Mike. Literally 5 minuters and $75 + a $10 tip later, I have keyless entry again and a place I will patron until one of us goes. TL;DR (aka Bottom Line): Don't ever pay a dealership a shit ton of money to hit 8 buttons. It'll piss you off... and who wants that? I don't. read more

I went to Golden State Locks on Burbank and Hollywood Way and they wanted $17 for a schlage mortise lock key and needed 48 hours to cut them... ridiculous even if I was buying in bulk. I took it to a locksmith and they wanted to charge me about $70 and they would not expect my blank key because it's not them selling it to me. About two years ago, after finding out how many times, without my knowledge, my daughter had copies made of our house key, I decided to have my door locks rekeyed, and ended up dealing with this local yocal. After the locksmith had finished with the door locks he asked me how many keys I'd like to have cut for the new locks. I had already given it some thought, and in an attempt to avoid having to go through all of this again, I told him to make me five keys and to stamp "Do Not Duplicate" on to three of them. He told me it would cost an dollar extra for each key that he stamped. I told him that was fine I was just trying to avoid this problem again in the future. Approximately six months later I notice my daughters keys on the kitchen table, and at the same time I also notice that the "Do Not Duplicate" stamp had been ground off of her house key. I ask her "what's this all about" and she tells me that she needed to have another key made for our house, for God only knows why now. Then I ask her "well who grounded off the DND stamp off of the key" And she tells me "the guy that made me the new copy of it" Now I'm thinking "Great, here I spend close to a hundred bucks having the locks rekeyed to my house and some knucklehead is out there with absolutely no regard for the DND stamp on the key and making additional copies of it. So I ask her " Well, who made you the copy of this key?" And she says " Oh that guy at the shop right across the street from the car wash on Magnolia" WHAT!! Wait a minute! I start at this shop hoping to avoid this problem again later on down the road, and this guy is just casually grinding the "Do Not Duplicate" off of the keys and adding to my troubles. Brought a key to be copied. The original kept sticking and driving me nuts! It was a High Security key...so expensive! He noticed the original was worn a little in one place. He increased the height of the area to compensate and the two copies now work better than the original!! No sticking!!! read more

I took a series of auto keys and a shed key to these guys to make duplicates and John did an amazing job. Auto keys can be tricky but John was an artist with them. I'd taken the shed key to two other locksmiths who said they couldn't make a copy but John used a different key to make two copies that work great. The keys all work, the price is reasonable and the guys there are all pretty cool. Just watch out for the old guy...if he's working, come back later. "Just a standard one" "You'll be done in less than a minute" "Ok, it's 11:50, and I'm on the freeway, I have a client at noon. Will I make it?" "Depends how fast you get here." So I got there... it's 11:54am. He said, just a second please. I thought, ugh... here goes 5 minutes. I'll be late. It literally was just a few seconds, and he came back. And he saw me struggling to take my key off the key ring (btw, i saw something on pinterest that shows you the best way to do it... just use a staple remover, it'll hold it open!... but I digress).... he said "please, don't take it off". Cool! I handed him my 6 pounds of keys, and showed which one I wanted. It literally took 13 seconds. I was out of there and at the salon at 11:57 a.m. Had 3 minutes to park and look professional till my client arrived. I'm impressed. Wow. read more

He made 2 copies from my original car key: one was an genuine GM key I supplied and the other was a generic provided by him. BOTH copies worked as they should and I was charged $4.00. read more

This business duplicates car keys that have a chip in them, and having them make duplicates would be a LOT less expensive than ordering them through a car dealer. My vehicle is a 2005 Ford E-250 cargo van. When I bought it a month ago, it came with one set of keys. Naturally, I assumed the ignition key had a chip in it. So I called up the shop and was told to bring the van, which I did. I handed the man the keys and he immediately said: "There's no chip in this, this is an ordinary key." What? I thought all ignition keys had chips by now. "Not all of them," he replied. "In that case, duplicate each." About two minutes and $11 later, I was on my way. I tested both keys in the locks and ignition. Perfect. Service doesn't get any better or more competent than that. read more
