    $20 stash from Lenny's

Lenny's where have you been all my life? Oh, yeah, on Greenwood & 105th. Seriously, I've been driving past this place for years but hadn't gone in until today. So glad I did. Wonderful fruit & veggie market-- with a good assortment of asian fruits, international condiments and goodies. Those beautiful asian eggplants in the photo were 99 cents a pound!

    Papaya, so ripe and sweet!

This is one of those hidden local gems that I wish to tell everyone about! For one thing, I love the selection of produce they have. I feel like what they sell has been thoughtfully procured and very reasonably priced! The people running the store are all super friendly and helpful as well. The place is also conveniently located next to bus stops so I can just hop on and off, on my way home from work. They carry your basics like bananas, onions and fresh greens but it's the diverse selection that gets me excited! You can't imagine our surprise when we came across fresh chanterelles and matsutake pine mushrooms, at incredible prices even! It sure beats spending the time and gas, having to drive all the way out to the mountains just for a chance at some of these prized mushrooms. Also, the variety in tropical fruit like ripe papaya and guava will make any Southeast Asian giddy with excitement! Walking in here is an adventure every time. I am always finding myself turning to my wife and going, "Wow honey! Look, they sell these!" It makes for a great excuse to come back whenever we're in the neighborhood.

I stumbled upon Lenny's by accident. I have driven by the place a few times but never had time to stop in. Yesterday, while on my way home from Northgate Target, JB Garden actually caught my eye first. I was in the left hand lane, and thought, I might as well turn in and check out JB Garden and grab a snack before I go home. Right after I parked, I looked up and Lenny's was right next store! Of course a place with cartons of produce is going to lure me in. Besides going to 99 Ranch, I haven't found a cheap local spot for produce. Well this is your place! I think it is Ukrainian owned, but has a lot of Asian varieties as well. They have bins of: tomatoes onions melons mangoes pineapples Cheap greens too. I walked out with my favorite Asian rice crackers, a carton of strawberries, a mango, onion, and some tomatoes, for less than $5! Loving this spot! When paying they ask if I want to buy a bag for 10 cents, or they offered me a box for free. I like that option! Reusing boxes they get from their shipments (sorta like Costco)!

Really great variety of produce at reasonable prices! More options than you'd find at a typical grocery, and at the same or lower cost.

It has been quite convenient to have this QFC as the closest grocery store from home. What I like…read moremost about it is that price is mostly reasonable and there is sales going on for some staple items always. Produce quality is pretty good and I've never had anything go bad in too short period of time. They also have a small international food section where I sometimes buy Asian snacks and ramen - I usually do my shopping for Asian groceries elsewhere, but when I'm in a hitch or randomly craving Asian food, I have an emergency stop at QFC. I also buy Japanese condiments like mirin and cooking sake from their alcohol section, which is a big win too! I saw another review about the deli section closing early and I did notice that - I asked what the operating hour is to the lady working there one day, and she told me on a good day it's open until 4 pm but they are generally understaffed. I haven't visited the deli section in months so it may be different now, but I hope the issue has been resolved. I always go through the self cashier but QFC staff are polite and helpful whenever I have issue with the machine. Some sale items wouldn't show up discounted, so you should watch out for that. When I ask the staff if they could correct the price, they are more than willing to fix it. Another pro is that the wifi game is strong - it's interesting to me because I feel like wifis weren't a thing in grocery stores in New York. Without the wifi you can't get any cell service, but once you join the wifi network, it connects immediately every time you enter the store.

I can pretty much get whatever I need at this store. Buy lately, this store likes to close early... like 20 min early. I get it that it's late when they are supposed to close at 1am.. but that's their posted closing time. What else are we supposed to go by?! So when they close and lock doors before 1245, it is frustrating for someone that rushed to make it before closing only to get turned away when you should still have 15-20 mins to get in and out. Adjust your closing time to something earlier or stay open until you say you will!

For my friend and I, we signed up for the Puerto Rican Pantry class. Overall, class was fantastic! Our instructor, Gino, did a great job leading the course. We learned how to make 4 dishes, 2 sauces, had yummy wine along the way, and learned some new skills/tips on cooking better. Experience wise~ class had a nice mix of hands on activities (ex: food prep), learning and watching, and towards the end, eating all the food we made. The food made was super yummy and so so filling. Plus, the cozy kitchen made it a much more immersive feel for the class. Overall, had a blast with the class and definitely coming back for more of Gino's courses :) Additional Tips ~ The course we took was around 3 hours long, so would recommend eating a light snack before class. Parking is limited to street, so come early before class to get a spot.
